Advice 🤷♂️ How does a hunting education course defferal work?
I got invited to go hunting this weekend for deer. I just moved to this state a few months ago, and I am a resident now. I understand that I can't take a hunting education course this season anymore. So, in order to get my hunting license for the season, I need to get a once-in-a-lifetime defferal for the course.
I've heard of exceptions made for out of state courses that can be taken online? Does anyone have information on that? Can I just click through an online training from another state and show it to the guy at the counter once done?
If it helps my case, I am military and have active orders.
I'm sorry if the questions I am asking are super basic. I just don't know the process at all.i thought it would be like getting a fishing license.

Self Promotion 🍆 Practical Pistol Class – Oct 24 | Olympia, WA | 1 Spot Left
Hey everyone, sharing this here in case anyone local is interested.
I’ve got one spot left in my Practical Pistol class next Saturday, October 24, at Evergreen Sportsmen’s Club in Olympia.
I keep my classes small (6 shooters max) so everyone gets plenty of reps and individual feedback. You don’t need to be fast or advanced, just safe and comfortable handling your pistol.
10 AM–4 PM | $225
Happy to answer any questions here.

Advice 🤷♂️ Where to go to get comfortable with a shotgun without worrying about clay/trap targets.
Hi, I just bought my first shotgun and I want somewhere I can go to shoot it very casually and get comfortable with it. I have shot pistols at indoor ranges for the last few years and just being able to get comfortable with it was nice and low stress, and I want something similar for my shotgun. However, every shotgun range I have found is all clay and trap shooting. While that is something I am interested in doing *eventually* right now I just want to put shells through it and get accustomed to the recoil, action, and general feel without worrying about shooting at a finite amount of moving targets.
I think Bellevue Gun Club says you can shoot shotguns there but my shotgun is fairly long and it feels like it would be really hard to maneuver and uncase in the bays, and its an indoor range and I feel like the shotgun would be so much louder and disrupting than the pistols. So I feel like I am misunderstanding the website and not actually confident that I could shoot it there.
My friends and I are planning to go out to a pit at somepoint in the nebulous future, before the cold comes in to hard, but I just got the gun and would love to shoot it sooner than *sometime in the nebulous future*
Any advice or locations would be great,

Legal ⚖️ Legal advice, trouble collecting deceased person’s pistol
Hi folks,
A friend of mine recently passed and his wife was not allowed to get his daily carry pistol back because local PD (paraphrasing) “is having a hard time proving he’s the owner”.
All the info I have so far is second hand, as my wife is the one spending more time with the widow.
Context:
The widow is our very good friend and we are trying to take as much off her plate as we can.
My friend passed from a medical reason.
The widow is certain his daily carry pistol is registered to her husband.
There are more guns safely stored in their home.
I understand the sensitivity of handing her the pistol to take home as part of his belongings. My goal is to prevent her from having to hire an attorney to handle this issue or it get more difficult as time passes.
My questions are, do any of you have experience with a situation like this and can offer some guidance? Is it standard to hold the firearm for a certain amount of time for safety reasons? Will this become a time sensitive issue that will be harder for her to button up the longer she waits?
I appreciate all the help I can get.

Best Gun Range for new Rifle Hunter?
This Sub is a cool place, so I figured I would ask the experts.
Just getting into shooting and would love to find a good shooting range that offers at least 100y for my new Ruger American Gen II Predator. I’m obsessed with this thing and want to spend some time on the range dialing it in, but have been looking around and seeing all these local ranges with stupid high prices and failry involved membership requirements.
I’m not above land hunting for DNR or other public lands to find my own spot, but range would be ideal.
Any intel or advice is welcome. You guys know best.

🗣Discussion RCW’s for ptp, cpl and training
I’ve been trying to do some research here and there on these. If you do the live fire course with a 9mm, are you only allowed to carry THAT weapon, or up to 9mm. Only reason the thought is bouncing around in that big open space is I know of at least one state where your cpl is “up to” what was used in live fire training

Cpl card
Was curious how many counties have the hard credit card style permit. Was at my county sheriff's office yesterday to apply for a replacement because my laminated one is beat to crap. Asked about when they plan to get the credit card style. They said Asotin county never plans to issue them because it goes through a third party maker and would double the cost.

Long range shooting in Vancouver/camas.
Hi, I live basically down the street from english pit shooting range. Its okay. Are there areas within an hour drive for long distance shooting? I have a 6.5 ruger American id like to test my skill with. Ive never shot anything past 100 yards and that seems easy to me.

🗣Discussion Plain, WA - Benjamin Barke (70), confronted and attacked Russell McClees (20) in a road rage incident on September 20th. Despite the older man being the aggressor and threatening McClees at gunpoint - McClees was eventually charged for wrestling the gun free and firing in self defense.
On September 20, 2026, at approximately 2:22 p.m., deputies responded to the Plain Grocery Store in Plain, for a report of a shooting.
The investigation determined that 20-year-old Russell E. McClees was riding his motorcycle northbound on Chumstick Highway when he encountered 71-year-old Benjamin W. Barke, who was driving a pickup truck. A confrontation occurred shortly afterward in the parking lot of the Plain Grocery Store.
According to statements provided by both involved individuals and a review of security-camera footage from nearby businesses, Barke confronted McClees after the two encountered each other on the highway. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation. Barke produced a handgun and pointed it at McClees.
During the ensuing struggle, while Barke was attempting to knock over McClees' motorcycle, he dropped the handgun.
McClees retrieved the handgun and moved away from Barke. Barke continued toward McClees in an attempt to recover the firearm. McClees then fired one round, striking Barke in the left thigh, causing extensive injuries.
After the shooting, McClees asked a bystander to call 911. He also obtained a belt from inside the grocery store and used it as a makeshift tourniquet in an effort to control Barke's bleeding. McClees remained in the area until law enforcement arrived.
Barke was transported for medical treatment. Due to the severity of his leg injury, he was transported to Harborview Medical Center for specialized care.
Detectives determined there was probable cause to charge McClees with Assault in the First Degree and Barke with Assault in the Second Degree. McClees was booked into the Chelan County Regional Jail on the first-degree assault charge and the charges of Assault in the Second Degree on Barke were referred to the Chelan County Prosecutors Office.

Looking for people to shoot long range with
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some people in WA who are into shooting at longer distances and might be interested in getting together for some shooting.
So far I’ve mostly been doing benchrest shooting with my Ruger 10/22 at 100 yards (longest lane at my range). I recently picked up a Browning X-Bolt 2 in 6.5 Creedmoor and want to start stretching it out to 200, 300, 500+ yards and learn more about long-range shooting.
I’m not necessarily looking for an organized range. I’d also be interested in meeting people who know of legal outdoor/forest shooting areas where we can safely shoot at longer distances.
I’m still getting into the long-range side of things, so I’d especially appreciate meeting some experienced shooters who are willing to share some knowledge and tips.
I’m around the Bellevue/Woodinville area but don’t mind driving for a good spot.
If you’re in the same boat or wouldn’t mind having another person join you for a shooting day, feel free to shoot me a DM.
Thanks!
