Question What’s the future of this building on Monroe?
Such a gorgeous landmark building left to decay away. Anybody know what the future of this building is? Please someone do something 😢

Stolen from Brownes Addition: two matching EBikes. Mongoose fat tire bikes- one black and blue, one red- with Luna conversion kits. someone entered our secured apartment building and took them, locks and all, within the last week. Currently working with the building management to comb security footage as well. Crimecheck report has been made. Pretty recognizable bikes.

I was digging into the state data on the new millionaire tax (SB 6346—the 9.9% tax on household income over $1M) from the Repatriate Washington Policy Research Institute. There’s been a lot of talk about how state tax policies hit Eastern WA vs. Western WA, so I wanted to see what the actual numbers look like for our region.
Turns out, every single legislative district in the Spokane area is listed as a "Robust Recipient." That means our region ends up with a pretty big net financial gain because the money coming back in for public programs, tax credits, and local investments easily outweighs what’s collected locally.
Here’s how the districts break down:
LD 3 (Central Spokane):
Millionaire households: ~103 (about 0.06% of the district)
Estimated tax paid: $17.6M
Economic benefit coming back: $84.2M
Net gain: +$38.5M
Votes: All 3 reps (Riccelli, Hill, Ormsby) voted YES.
LD 4 (Spokane Valley / Liberty Lake):
Millionaire households: ~191
Estimated tax paid: $31.2M
Economic benefit coming back: $80.8M
Net gain: +$22.7M
Votes: All 3 reps (Christian, Schmidt, Chase) voted NO.
LD 6 (Spokane / Cheney):
Millionaire households: ~243
Estimated tax paid: $42.1M
Economic benefit coming back: $91.3M
Net gain: +$18.8M
Votes: All 3 reps (Holy, Volz, Graham) voted NO.
LD 7 (North / Rural Spokane & Stevens Co.):
Millionaire households: ~78
Estimated tax paid: $22.8M
Economic benefit coming back: $87.7M
Net gain: +$35.6M
Votes: All 3 reps (Short, Engell, Abell) voted NO.
LD 9 (South Spokane / Whitman / Pullman):
Millionaire households: ~97
Estimated tax paid: $19.4M
Economic benefit coming back: $102.1M
Net gain: +$48.7M
Votes: All 3 reps (Schoesler, Dye, Schmick) voted NO.
A few things that jumped out at me:
Barely anyone here actually pays it: Out of roughly 157k people per district, we’re talking about 78 to 243 households in any given area. Over 99.8% of us pay literally $0 toward this.
Spokane is a net winner on paper: Since most of the state's top earners live on the West Side, money gets pulled from wealthier King/Snohomish districts and flows east into our local economy.
The vote split is interesting: LD3 reps voted for it, while the reps in LD4, 6, 7, and 9 all voted against it—even though their districts stand to get anywhere from $18M to $48M+ in net funding.
What do you all think? Does seeing these numbers change how you view the policy, or do you think the economic modeling isn't telling the whole story?

EDIT - CLAIMED
Thank you!
Hey Spokane,
I have two general admission tickets to the Gary Clark Jr show tonight at the Knitting Factory that I can't use, and for the life of me I can't find a single person who will take them.
Show's at 8, please DM me and I'll send them either via email or text (through Ticketmaster 🤮).
Just hoping they won't go to waste!

I have a friend working for BPAS who is very overwhelmed at the moment. Her managers have claimed to be looking for replacement for her coworkers for the past 8 or 9 months, and in this job climate I find it hard to believe they aren't being inundated with applications. So hey if you want a job (one that is hybrid wfh, my friend works from home Thursday and Friday), then it couldn't hurt to send them an application!
And if you do apply, maybe you could reply and let me know, and I'll follow up in a few days and see if anything came of it? I mean hopefully you get a job, honestly! Here's the link, this may get removed by mods I'm not sure, but I hope it's okay:

Pretty much just the title. We're looking at an electric vehicle because gas prices are insane, but we are anxious about the idea of running out of charge especially since we would only be able to trickle charge at home. Does anyone else have that situation, and if so has it worked for you? I appreciate your answers! Thank you!

I have always taken both my business and my personal vehicles to Les Schwab. I'm not sure what has happened over the year or so, but I've noticed a massive amount of turnover. People I knew and recognized for years are no longer there, and their pricing has gone through the roof. They've also recommended more additional work, like shocks, struts, and even control arms. There always seems to be additional work that needs to be done when I'm ready for new tires or to rotate tires, and the prices to make those repairs are astronomical, especially at the location on Regal.
If anyone has recommendations for better tire stores, I'd love to have them! They have slowly lost my business. It seems like an entirely different company now, with a different culture that doesn't prioritize the customer whatsoever.

Any good recommendations for a good mechanic in town? Nothings wrong with my vehicle at the moment but would like to nail down a couple places that work on Toyotas, do bodywork/paint, and/or undercarriage rust prevention. Thanks!

One of my friends is getting surgery in Spokane and will need to be in Spokane for around a week to recover but won't be in the hospital.
Are there programs or groups that house people for things like this in Spokane?

Bah humbug,
Unfortunately, we must cancel the upcoming PRFM Spokane winter market.
Despite an extensive search—and far too much of our time being wasted—we have been unable to secure a venue that meets the basic fire and life-safety requirements necessary for an event of this size.
In some cases, properties raised serious concerns during an initial safety review. In others, property representatives would not permit—or flatly refused—the required fire marshal inspection.
That is not a compromise we are willing to make. The safety of our vendors, attendees, volunteers, and staff must come before holding an event. We will never knowingly place our community in an unsafe building.
Spokane has numerous vacant properties with the potential to become thriving community spaces. Unfortunately, we repeatedly encountered property representatives who were unwilling to make necessary safety improvements, participate in the inspection process, or provide the cooperation required to finalize a lease.
Supporting public safety must include holding commercial property owners accountable for maintaining safe, code-compliant spaces—not merely expressing support when it is convenient. Spokane’s current system is not doing enough.
We encourage you to contact your City Council members and other elected leaders. Ask why viable commercial spaces are allowed to sit empty while property owners simultaneously complain about downtown’s condition and lack of activity. Ask why we champion the fire department for keeping our community safe, like they did selflessly in August—until a mere 2 months later, when suddenly an inspection affects a property someone wants to rent. Public safety cannot be conditional. Make it make sense.
We know how many people were looking forward to the winter market—including us—and we are deeply disappointed that we cannot move forward. This decision was not made lightly. However, with fewer than five weeks remaining and no viable venue or signed lease, cancellation is the only responsible choice.
We remain committed to bringing the PRFM back this spring or summer once we can secure a safe, properly approved venue.
Kris & Jenny
