Question uf photography studios open to students?

hi everyone :) i occasionally design and create my own costumes and cosplays. i was wondering if there were any private photography studio spaces available to uf students, possibly even with equipment but mostly just looking for a space that has backdrops or just neutral backgrounds. unfortunately i don’t have the means to pay over hundreds an hour but would still appreciate a way to capture the costumes. thank you in advance !

Housing 1 Bedroom Apartment Reccs

I'm a 4th year undergrad student and recently my apartment told me they won't be renewing my lease for literally 0 reason. So now I need a place by November thanks to that. Does anyone have any 1/1 apartment reccs? Preferably not anywhere far from campus.

Social Finding a guy on campus to dom…

so I just transferred to UF this semester. maybe i do just need more time to fulfill this desire…going out more, going to more parties…

once upon a time i met a guy who made a post on here about wanting a girl to kick him in the nuts. i was that girl. i miss him, and i want to find someone new.

I am a woman, so femdom is my absolute shit. anything having to do with it i could probably get down with. I know there's a lot more submissive guys out there in college than what is let on. if it resonates, come on out. l've been looking for you.

Admissions Thoughts on admission odds for UF class of 27

• Upvotes

About to send out college applications as a dual-enrolled student at the end of my junior year. Currently thinking about an Ivy League, but UF is my backup school. What does everyone think my odds are for UF (or Ivy League if you've known anyone who's gone)?

Academics:

1500 SAT (780 in math), 4.8 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted, 78 college credits.

Club Involvement:

College Student Government VP, head delegate of a nationally recognized Model UN team (one of the top five-ish community college teams in the world), president of a college engineering club currently competing nationally with top universities, and president of a campus programming club.

Awards and Recognitions:

Intercollegiate debate champion (top record in the comp history), accepted into two highly elite international leadership programs with under 50 students accepted, Eagle Scout, and Intercollegiate programming competition champion.

Community Involvement:

200+ hours of community service, an internship with a local policy organization (a team comprised of grad and undergrad students) where I chaired an intercollegiate conference, a long-time volunteer with a hospice organization, and teaching two eleven-week courses for middle schoolers (one on speech and another on programming).

This is most of my active involvement. I've never played any sports but I'm thinking of competing in a body building comp soon-ish. I also have a programming portfolio with some pretty advanced operating system and game engine design projects, but most of them are over a year old.

I think my odds are pretty good, but I'd like to see everyone's thoughts. I'm also open to any suggestions of things I could add/focus extra on to improve my app.

Thanks, everyone!

EDIT: this is not a prank post btw genuinely curious about my odds. Homeschooled my whole life if that explains anything

Classes Double Majoring

Is it possible to double major as a junior transfer? I’m a chemistry major and I’m wanting to add on physics, a major for which I’ve already completed most lower division requirements for (calc 1-3, diffeqs, physics 1/2, gen chem 1/2). Im wondering if it’d be possible to graduate on time, or how long it’d extend my graduation if at all.

I’ve also considered math, microbio, or compsci. I’m just trying to weigh interests vs graduating on time.

Housing Roommate rant (GTF OUTTTTTTTTTT)

To start: I *know* I'm being an asshole. My roommate is so fucking nice, so friendly, and an amazing person in general. I'm being a bitch about this. I am in the wrong, 100%.

But holy shit.

They won't leave the room. Just yesterday, I asked to have the room to myself (it's a one-room dorm) for an interview). I woke up, they were here. I left for class, they were here. I came home, (at a time when most people should be out and about), they were here. I told them it would be a 2 hour interview and they vacated. But, I shit you not, THE MINUTE THE 2 HOUR MARK PASSED, they. Came. Back. They were in the room ever since then, all the way until we went to bed. They study, eat, and do everything in the dorm. There is no escape. It's like this almost every day.

Are they rude about it????? Fuck no. We haven't fought once this whole semester. We've done favors for each other when we needed it. We share things with each other. Dare I say it, we're developing a friendship.

But dammit, I want my privacy back. They have ZERO club involvement afaik and spend all their time on Twitch and gaming. Not shaming anyone who does but... man, we're not freshmen anymore. We're at the age where involvement actually matters.

I know this is literally the stupidest reason ever for hating a roommate (and hate is a strong word. i don't hate them). I know it could be SO MUCH WORSE. I know I have my own bad habits that probably drive them crazy. But I miss gooning, walking around shirtless, and watching YT without headphones on. GTFO AND GET INVOLVED YA BUM

Question UF MHA degree

Hello everyone, I was wondering if the Master's in Healthcare Administration is worth it? Would there be any advancement with this degree? I am sure the fellowships at Shands are hard to obtain, and I know only a few get them, so I was just wondering. If anyone has done this degree or is thinking about it, I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks

Admissions USF freshman (previously admitted to UF) trying to transfer into UF BME as fast as possible. Advice on prereqs, BME vs. MechE, and opportunities?

Hi everyone! I’m a first-year at USF. I was admitted to UF for Fall 2026 but had to withdraw over the summer for financial reasons. Things are better now, and I really want to get back to UF.

I’m currently a Biomedical Sciences major and plan to switch to Biomedical Engineering at USF while I finish UF’s transfer prerequisites. I asked UF Admissions about appealing for Spring 2027, since I’d only be one semester away, but they said no. So I’m going through the transfer process. I’ll have 60 credits by the end of Spring 2027 (most are IB credit), so credits aren’t my problem. The prerequisites are. UF BME requires 10 courses plus labs, and I’ve only finished Bio I. I’m hoping for Fall 2027 but realistically expect Spring or Fall 2028.

My questions:

  1. Prerequisites: if you transferred into UF engineering, how did you get through calc, physics, chem, and orgo quickly? Did 8-week or summer courses at state colleges work for you, and how did your GPA hold up?
  2. BME vs. MechE: I’ve seen advice to major in MechE (since it’s broader) and do biomedical research on the side. I really want to stay in the biomedical side of engineering. For someone who wants medical devices or biomaterials, which would you choose and why?
  3. UF BME opportunities: what makes UF BME special? Labs, research programs, clubs, or anything unique you’d recommend I learn about? I’m especially interested in biomaterials and nerve regeneration.
  4. Advisor meeting: I have a meeting coming up with the UF BME undergraduate advisor. I’ll ask about requirements and whether there’s any flexibility for someone who’s only a year out (I know it’s probably a no). Any tips for making a good impression and building a relationship?
  5. General advice: I’m honestly really nervous about transferring. I tried hard to avoid it because of the uncertainty. If you transferred into UF, what do you wish you’d known?

TL;DR: I was admitted to UF, withdrew, and I’m now at USF trying to transfer into BME ASAP with almost no prerequisites done. Looking for advice on speeding up prerequisites, BME vs. MechE, and UF BME opportunities to talk about with the advisor.

Sports Dr. Ruth Alexander

I just got my alumni magazine, and the cover is a celebration of 100 years of Gator athletics, with art by James Bates featuring a number of figures from that history. One that I didn't know anything about is Dr. Ruth Alexander, who was a professor at UF for more than 30 years and led the push to fund women's athletics at UF.

She's shown in Batesey's artwork riding a bike, which made me think - at Santos mountain bike trails in Ocala, one of the trails is called Dr. Ruth. So I'm guessing that's named for her, and not the diminutive sex therapist, as I'd previously assumed. But a bit of googling doesn't come up with anything about her being a cyclist. Anybody know anything?

Question EMA3010 Materials Question

Hi, I'm planning to take Materials in Spring 2026 with Nagarajan Rajagopal. Other available professors include Gayani Pathiraja and Sophia Ahmed.

Alongside Materials, I will be taking Statics with either Steven Kelpac or Jin Xu and hopefully Physics 2 w/ Calc transiently.

Gen Chem 1 (CHM2045) is a pre-req for Materials, and I did not do well in the course. How much does Materials draw on Gen Chem 1 knowledge, if at all? Would the class have been doable without taking Gen Chem 1? Would it be better to take Materials in a later semester if I need a better chemistry foundation, especially considering I will be taking Statics?

Housing Affordable Off-campus Housing

Hello! I’m looking for affordable off campus housing in the $600-$700 range for the fall 2027 semester. I’d love to be in walking distance of the school if possible, but if not that’s ok too. So far I’ve found The Hideaway and Countryside which aren’t within walking distance but are affordable. Any information would be very appreciated!

Question Honorlock “second device detected” but proctor let me continue, should I be worried?

During an Honorlock exam, my initial room scan went fine. I showed basically everything, including my desk, the floor, and my lap. I also had an external monitor nearby, but it was off and the screen was completely black. My phone was dead and in another room the entire time.

Within the first 5 minutes of the exam, a proctor messaged me saying Honorlock detected a second device and asked me to do another room scan. I showed the area again, including my calculator, which I think may have been what triggered it, I honestly have no clue. The proctor said thank you and let me continue the exam.

Later, my laptop was about to die, so I said out loud that I needed to grab my charger. I stayed visible on camera, went to my backpack, pulled the charger out with both hands visible, plugged it in, and continued. The proctor didn’t pop up again.

I also tend to fidget with my face/hands a lot during exams, so I’m overthinking whether any of that could look suspicious.

Has anyone at UF had something similar happen? If a proctor contacted you about a supposed second device, you showed everything, and they let you continue, did anything ever happen afterward?

I submitted the exam normally and Canvas shows it was successfully submitted.

Also, would you guys recommend emailing my professor just to explain what happened, or would that be overkill since the proctor let me continue and nothing actually happened?

Question How do you personally balance academics, extracurriculars, social life, etc?

I’m a freshman and I’m currently having trouble balancing all the above mentioned 😅 I feel like it’s mainly because I have a lot of extracurriculars but I also feel like I’m studying every single day and not really having much of a social life outside of it.

I was wondering how do you all manage to a balance academics, extracurriculars, and social life? I’m also an engineering major if that means anything, and I know it gets more difficult from here on out, but I really want to know how to be successful while still maintaining my sanity 💀

Employment How to cope with the fact I probably won’t land a job

Hey, this post is kinda a rant cause I really don’t feel super confident in the internship and job search right now. I applied to like 50 internships and have gotten rejections left and right(got 6 rejections so far), I know 50 doesn’t sound like a lot but it is a decent amount. I got rejected from an internship where I felt I was a good match for but apparently it doesn’t matter. I feel pretty fucking hopeless. I’m not a smart individual at all and the fact that I believed I ever was intelligent or capable makes me believe even more I’m stupid. Like instead of giving up on engineering like I probably should, I decided to keep going even though I barely made the critical tracking requirements(I got a B in calc 1, Physics 2, and Diffeq and a C in calc 2, 3, physics 1) but after that I only got Bs in prog 1, prog 2, discrete, a B+ in digital Logic. Which may sound ok, but like in the big 26 companies only hire the top 10% of a graduating class cause they over hired so bottom tier engineers like myself won’t get jobs. And my gpa is a borderline 3.0 which is basically shit. Add in the fact that I have like 2 Ws in diffeq the first time I took it and a W in DSA. I failed physics 2 the first time with a D+, and also signals and systems and also microp. Idk it’s basically a ropemaxxing experience trying to land any sense of employment. And I don’t think I have the resilience to keep trying. Idk just a rant but it definitely seems hopeless.

My sweet 3 month foster kitten Percy is looking for his forever home! He was found by my friend’s neighbor at a colony where she also TNRs. Percy is very affectionate and is an absolute cuddle bug! He loves sitting on my feet, giving me kisses, and playing.

Percy was neutered and vaccinated at Operation Catnip, and he is also dewormed and got Revolution Plus (flea treatment). If you are interested in adopting him, please message me, and please share with anyone who might be interested!

Social GatorLAN Fall 2026 Is Coming!

GatorLAN Fall 2026 is on November 7-8th! I'm thrilled to be bringing back Pokémon Showdown: Random Battles for its 5th consecutive GatorLAN appearance! Additionally, I've been working on something special for VGC this GatorLAN...

GatorLAN will be having its first EVER official Pokémon tournament this fall, as I'm proud to be hosting the Pokémon Champions VGC League Challenge! This will be a standard VGC event that's officially sanctioned by The Pokémon Company... which means you will get Championship Points towards Worlds!!!

This wouldn't be possible without Coliseum of Comics, who are partnering to help bring this event to UF. They have an amazing community and host their own events every week, starting 2 weeks from now! These include officially sanctioned tournaments for VGC and TCG, among others. I highly recommend checking them out and joining the Gainesville Pokémon community!! They have a super awesome and friendly community. You can join their server here.

These are just two of the 59 tournaments and many panels coming to GatorLAN this fall, so be sure to sign up soon! It's completely free to join, and it's hosted entirely in the Reitz Union. GatorLAN is also open to all entrants, not just UF students, so be sure to share this with your friends outside of UF! Learn more in the Gator Gaming Discord!

You can register for tournaments at https://start.gg/gatorlan!
