NTD: First Festool!! CTM MIDI I
Got my first piece of Festool gear (I’m in Australia). Finally upgraded from an 18V Bosch 10L to a proper vacuum for my handyman business. I’m starting to do more custom cabinetry work and finding that I’m using a track saw and sanders more and making more mess than the little Bosch can cope with. Haven’t had a chance to properly use the MIDI yet but from a quick test I’m impressed with the suction and the whole thing feels very quality! Got the Bluetooth remote to go on the hose, I know I’m going to love that for when I’m up on the ladder drilling holes in walls for picture hangers!! Looking forward to putting it through its paces!

Anyone else have a big fuck off screwdriver (secretly a chisel) that is absolutely one of their favourite tools?

Tube stuck in hose Any ideas?
This bit of plastic tube from the power steering tank is stuck like glue in the hose any idea on how I might get it out like some sort of reverse pliers tweezers that push outward?? It’s super small my finger for scale
Not sure if right subreddit but thanks if anyone could help

I stumbled across a tool today that turned out to be surprisingly useful!
I originally got this blower for inflating outdoor air couches and pool floats, but today I tried using it on some fallen leaves and was honestly surprised by how well it worked. Just wanted to share in case anyone else has one of these! Pretty handy to have around, and saves you from buying a separate leaf blower just for quick cleanup.

Best speed square/rafter square?
I bought the jessem precision quick angle speed square a few months ago and never thought to check it until recently and it’s actually out of square by quite a bit.
I’ve seen a lot of people using Trigjig or squijig but no idea if these are actually any good.

$80 Marketplace Tool Haul
Picked up a pretty insane tool haul the other day. Haggled him down from $200 to $80. Barley had an idea of what I was picking up as the guy had horrible photos and didnt even photograph half of it! I thought i was picking up maybe 20% of this.
Got there and he was just like.. "yeah take all this too". Crazy. Best find in a while.
500 sockets
320 wrenches
Have yet to count the hand tools but easily 200+
Will give everything a nice soak in a DIY De-rust solution and then try to figure out what to do with it all. haha

If you could only buy 1 Snap On tool, what would you choose?
Just curious as I'm going into Heavy Duty after school soon.

Nut stuck on Bolt, please help?!
**Edit- this is the top of a functional trainer weight stack - the piece that connects the two weight stacks together.
**This is hot-dip galvanized steel from Get RX’d
**I have the Allen key & the correct 6 side socket, I have wrenches and vice grips
**The hardware also came from Get RX’d but I think I put the wrong nut onto the bolt
Attempting to put together gym equipment & could not tighten this all the way so as I’m backing it off …I can’t get it loose. The bolt head is rounded so it’s extremely hard to keep it steady. I’ve tried vice grips & oil & put all my strength into it, tried holding bolt side still and nut side- cant get this thing loose!!! I think the nut is the incorrect size. I have no idea what to do next!

Looking for my first Drill
I’m a more beginner maker at home, I have some 3D printers, a soldering iron, electrical tools and I’m getting into the field more and more. I’ve dealt with a good bit of drills before at my school’s shop and my late grandfather’s shop. So I want to get a good general purpose drill and I am looking for any suggestions anyone might have. Thanks for reading and for your suggestions!

I lucked out today
A guy was selling his dad's retirement machining tools and let me get this Central Machinery Tool Grinder for $120. It was unopened in the box and manufactured in 2004.
The whole thing is solid cast iron and weighs 100lbs. I'm so excited to add this to my metalworking setup and start grinding my own HSS lathe bits.

NTD and Tip for painting metal embossed lettering
If you use solid paint markers like the Sakura I have and you let them dry, alcohol wipes rubbed lightly over the excess leaves the paint in the indents and cleans them off nicely!

TSUNODA EK-72 electrician's knife. A surprisingly stylish design. [OC]
Many electrician's knives have a rather rugged design, but I really like the look of this TSUNODA EK-72.
The finish feels high-quality, the wooden handle is simple and elegant, and the hollow-ground blade opens smoothly. The distinctive tip shape, typical of electrician's knives, is also practical.
Weight: 107 g
Overall length: 177 mm
Blade length: 72 mm
Blade thickness: 3 mm
Stainless steel blade and frame, natural wood handle, and a liner lock.
Finally got my first cordless power tools
Had some trees and hedges that needed cutting.
Home Depot had this chainsaw for $249 on clearance with battery and charger. Makita is sending me a free extra battery on top of that from a promo.
Charles H. Day Co. had the hedge trimmer for $179, tool only.
Found a guy selling the 40V weed whacker for $80 new in box (he got two in order to qualify for an extra battery promo last year).
So $510 for chainsaw, hedge trimmers, weed whacker, 5ah battery, and 4ah batteries, all new. And probably $40 in gasoline driving all over town and checking lots of places to find the deals and get everything.
Charged up the battery and went to work on all the excess tree branches. (Tall ladder helped.) Literally filled up three entire compost bins with the trimmings, did all my hedges, and still had one bar of battery left.
I've used some gasoline chainsaws in the past, but this Makita is on a whole other level. It went like butter through basically everything. Nothing felt to remotely challenge this saw. I've never had that actual fun chainsawing, but that was actually a pleasurable experience.
The hedge trimmers are also beastly. They powered through the dead, dense hard buildup of sticks under our bushes without slowing down or bogging down.
I have not tried the weed whacker yet, but if it does bit whacks weeds as good as this saw saws branches, then I'll be shocked, because it's got the same industrial-feeling build quality as the others.
May just order that new TD005 impact from Japan based on this experience. Wish they had a release date for the US market version.

What's this worth?
Tool Post Grinder. No accessories or anything. What's a good price for this? I can't seem to find much online. Also, it seems like an odd tool, but I'm not a machinist. Do people really find them useful?
