Why Create This Post?

We often get flooded with many of the same questions. While we love to help new commers, it can be exhausting constantly replying to very similar posts. This post is intended to serve as a resource for the community. The idea is to have the information easily accessible and clear for new commers and people exploring a new app or refreshing their memory. Feel free to comment any additions you would like to add and I will create guides. I don't have much free time between running So-Cal Console Modding and my main career, but I will try to slowly trickle out more guides to help out the community.

Discussion My experience with the new Switch Ports

Post image
120 Upvotes

Call of duty MW: Pretty solid With a little bit OC solid 60fps 720p

NFS MW: This one's pretty solid with stock clocks you'll achieve 30fps in the most parts

NFSUG1/2 Carbon: Kinda the same performance as the MW but not as polished. Liked the UG1 tho

Halo CE: My personal favorite,Gyro-HD rumble plus 60fps. What else do you want from a port?

Sly Copper 1: Pretty cool port, Increased draw distance/Ps3 textures, Fixed camera 60fps and most importantly you can skip the cutscenes

Sonic Unleashed: ver 1.0: Almost 720 45fps with stock clocks (460mhz)

Farcry 1: Total scam, It took 5 min just to load, qirh max OC and lowest settings fps is still chugging

GTA V: with 9th September update you'll get a playable experience outside of the driving with lowers the fps to around 19 even with extreme OC(1.9 cpu-1.2GPU-2400RAM)

COD BOZ: an IOS port which is a total downgrade when you compare it to the vita ver, I don't recommend this at all

Vita3K: I tried GOW collection and MK9, these ran pretty good with some cpu OC(1.9)

Zelda windwaker: I tried it a little bit but it ran at 60fps with no OC

Dusklight: Same as the TLOZWW but with more settings and mod

StarFox64: It's good as the SOH and I love it

Announcement SCCM Retro update: install from an NRO (no PC needed), 20+ native ports, Windows PC games, and 90 updates since the last post

What is SCCM Retro?

SCCM Retro is an all-in-one emulation front end for the Switch, built on Linux for the best performance and emulation experience. It is made with convenience, performance and customizability in mind: one launcher for your consoles, native ports, apps and PC games, controlled entirely with a controller.

Easy to install: just an NRO

SCCM Retro now installs from a single NRO. No PC, no reformatting, no lost data.

  • Put sccm-retro.nro in your SD:/switch folder, launch it from the homebrew menu, and install. Your existing files stay where they are.
  • Don't like it? The same NRO removes SCCM Retro, deletes its partition and gives the space back to your FAT32 partition, again without losing data.
  • The first launch from the NRO copies your WiFi networks and Bluetooth controller pairings into SCCM Retro, so nothing has to be set up twice.
  • Supports FAT32 cards with or without emuMMC partition(s). A card that already has a Linux install (L4T Ubuntu, Switchroot Fedora) can have SCCM Retro installed in its place; this erases that Linux partition. Cards with Android are not supported by the NRO yet; to remove Android without losing data, use SCCM Switch Toolbox on a Windows PC.

Add games from any device. Open the console's web page from any phone, PC, Mac or Linux machine on the same network and drop your ROMs in. SCCM Retro sorts them into the right console, scrapes cover art (or pick art from SteamGridDB), and converts them to space-saving formats. ROMs are stored on the card's FAT32 partition; a file over FAT32's 4 GB limit stays on the Linux partition.

Performance first

  • Built on Linux (Switchroot Fedora) with a custom kernel tuned for performance. Everything SCCM Retro supports runs better (or will eventually) than it does on Horizon.
  • Overclocking and undervolting made easy. Run the automatic RAM and CPU tuners and they find the best settings for your console. They now recognize when the modchip misses a restart, so a missed restart no longer counts as a failed setting.
  • Community settings. Submit your best settings for a game, browse other people's settings and compatibility reports from the game's menu, and apply them with one button.

Make it yours

  • Pick your own two colors, and the Neon, Clean Dark or Clean Light theme
  • Your own background, or one of the built-in designs
  • Your own boot splash
  • Five ways to browse your library: grid, rolodex, cover flow, carousel or shelf, with game boxes shaped like your cover art
  • Your own hotkeys, on any controller

Emulator highlights

  • 3DS: a custom build of Azahar with gyro, multiple save state slots, an on-screen keyboard and Mii support. With an open face dock you can show the bottom screen on the Switch and the top screen on the TV, and change the screen layout from the pause menu.
  • GameCube and Wii: a custom build of Dolphin. Mariko consoles play almost every game at full speed. Wii motion controls and the pointer work through gyro, and your Joy-Cons can now be two separate Wii Remotes, each with its own pointer. Netplay has been tested and works (RetroArch consoles too). If there is enough interest I may refine and release it, but it needs paid servers, so it would need a lot of interest and a small cost to cover them.
  • PS2: a custom build of ARMSX2 with many performance improvements. Most games run at or near full speed on Mariko.
  • Wii U: Cemu, with the GamePad's gyro from the console handheld or from a detached Joy-Con or Pro Controller when docked.
  • DS: DraStic, with docked dual screen: the top screen on your TV and the touch screen on the console.
  • PSP: standalone PPSSPP.

Ports and apps

Ports are native versions of games that run directly on the Switch instead of through an emulator. That means higher frame rates, widescreen and higher resolutions, mods and texture packs, and less battery drain than emulating the original console. Every port is made from your own copy of the game: you add your disc image or ROM and the console builds the game from it.

  • Mario Kart Wii (WiiCompiled) + Retro Rewind: at or near 60 fps, even on Erista. Online matchmaking through Retro Rewind. A custom build for maximum performance on the Switch, compiled on your console from your own disc.
  • The Wind Waker HD: a native recompilation of the Wii U game, built on your console from your Wii U copy.
  • Twilight Princess (Dusklight): native Twilight Princess from your GameCube disc, with support for HD texture packs and mods.
  • Ocarina of Time (Ship of Harkinian) and Majora's Mask (2 Ship 2 Harkinian): native versions of the N64 Zeldas with full speed at every frame rate, widescreen and mod support.
  • Mario Kart 64 (SpaghettiKart): native Mario Kart 64 from your own cartridge ROM.
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee (melee-pc): native Melee from your own disc.
  • Halo: Combat Evolved (OpenCE): runs very well. Online play with friends is in and still being tested.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies: the 2011 mobile game as a native port. Online play needs more testing, but may work now.
  • Jak and Daxter, Jak II and Jak 3 (OpenGOAL): the PS2 games as native programs, made from your discs.
  • Sly Cooper (ProjectCane): Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus as a native program.
  • LEGO Island: the 1997 PC game, from your own CD.
  • Space Cadet Pinball: the classic Windows pinball table.
  • Morrowind (OpenMW): the full game with its expansions, from your own copy.
  • Pokemon Red to Emerald (Gen1Recomp): fan-made rebuilds of Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal, with FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald in beta. Add mods by dragging a zip onto the web page.
  • PokeMMO: the native client, no emulation.
  • Apps: Moonlight to stream games from your PC (with hardware video decoding), plus Stremio and YouTube.
  • Add your own: any Linux game or app can show up on the console with a small description file next to it.

Many more will be added as they come out!

PC games

Add your own Windows games from an .exe, an installer, a disc image, a folder, a zip, or straight from your Steam account. They run with FEX and Wine. Many older and indie games run well; some I have tested that run well include Dead Space, BattleBlock Theater and Fallout: New Vegas. PC games get:

  • Remappable keyboard and mouse mode
  • Customizable touch buttons
  • On-screen keyboards from the pause menu
  • Any controller button mapped to a key
  • Installs to the SD card or Linux partition

Also new since the last post

  • A new look for the whole launcher, new backgrounds, and a Settings menu that is quicker to get around
  • Stable and Latest update channels: take every update, or only the stable ones
  • A tear-free display in emulators
  • Auto save, and PSP and DS saves you can download or delete from the web page
  • An SD card speed test that can switch on DDR200, your card's fastest mode, when it is safe
  • GameCube controller adapter support
  • Move, copy and unpack files from the web page, for adding mods
  • Faster boots and sturdier over-the-air updates

Frequent updates

SCCM Retro has had 118 updates since its public release in July, 90 of them since the last post here. I am always incorporating new ideas from the Discord community, so come share yours.

Discussion Playing the MW4 port on my modded Switch .

Thumbnail
gallery
33 Upvotes

Been playing the MW4 port on my modded Switch, and honestly, it makes me wish someone would bring the entire Modern Warfare series to the console. And I don't mean running the games through AutRun, Wine NX, or other compatibility layers. I mean an ACTUAL native port, built and optimized for the Switch itself. Imagine having COD4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, and Modern Warfare 3 running natively on the Switch, with proper controls, optimized performance, and their full campaigns playable on the go. Still waiting to play No Russian.

The best part is that, in my experience, I've only experienced one crash so far, and overall, the game runs smoothly! 🔥 I honestly didn't expect it to run this well.

News I'm still making a port of Dead Space 2008 for the Nintendo Switch.

Post image
• Upvotes

I'm working on a port of Dead Space for the Nintendo Switch. A few days later, I have a working build on PC (I'll compile it for Switch once the game itself is stable).

What already works: language selection, controls, and sound. The game reaches the start screen, but after pressing Start it crashes during the transition animation, before the menu loads. I'm currently fixing that — the crash is on a specific guest address, and I'm adding the missing functions one by one.

I can't attach a video right now because I'm writing from the basement and don't have access to my PC. Once I get into the menu (or at least past this crash), I'll make a new post with a video.

I believe the port is doable, and I'm aiming to release it to the public when it's done. I can't promise a date yet — I'm doing this alongside my studies, without a professional background. But I've already done a lot of work, and I'm not stopping.

Discussion Bomberman 64: Recompiled now runs natively on Switch (NSP/NRO release)

I ported Bomberman 64: Recompiled (N64Recomp static recompilation) to the Switch. It's native code, not emulation, and runs at 60 FPS.

⚠️ This is an early release (beta). It's been tested on a Switch OLED, but not everything has been tested yet. Please report any bugs or issues here: https://github.com/paulodiasred/BM64Switch/issues

🎬 Video: https://youtu.be/Wp8GkGGbpl0

- NSP with a HOME menu icon, or an NRO

- In-game settings menu: resolution, AA, VSync, CPU clock, controls

- Includes a Brazilian Portuguese translation

Bring your own Bomberman 64 (USA) ROM.

Release: https://github.com/paulodiasred/BM64Switch/releases/tag/v1.0.0

Source: https://github.com/paulodiasred/BM64Switch

⭐ A star on the repo would mean a lot if you like it!

Discussion Which Resident Evil game on Switch 1 is the best in your opinion, and why?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone!
I’m planning to start playing through the Resident Evil series on my original Nintendo Switch. Since there are quite a few titles available on the system, I’m trying to decide which native port to play first.

For those who have played them on the Switch: Which Resident Evil title is your absolute favorite on this hardware, and why?

A few specific things I’m curious about:
How is the overall performance and framerate in handheld vs. docked mode?

How do the controls feel?

Which one offers the best balance between graphics, smooth performance, and classic Resident Evil atmosphere on the console?

Looking forward to your recommendations and thoughts! Thanks!

Discussion Modded my first switch OLED 😈.

Thumbnail

I've been holding onto this customers OLED switch for about 2 weeks now because I've never really installed a mod chip on a OLED and I was wait for the chip to come in. I first had to remove the old mod chip that was installed ( it was very outdated and failed) . I was really hoping the old flex cables would fit in the new chip, boy was I wrong. I spent the past hour Desoldering and soldering in a new chip ,which honestly went so smooth I was confused how I did it so effortlessly 😭😭 I struggled more putting the case back on when I was done ! . Anyways after the install I went to turn the switch on and I got blinking blue lights , literally 2 seconds before that I was thinking to myself ( If it works the first time it something ain't right) and thankfully it didn't work 😈😅 I realized I stupidly put the Dat0 wire on the B point on the flex cable 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ I fixed that and tried it again. Once again I got the blue lights but a single yellow one at the end, I was confused . So I pulled out my multimeter and I tested each point and would you believe that I was trying to be so careful with the A point I didn't even solder it onto the flex cable 😐, so I fixed that up and boom it worked beautifully !

Discussion POV: Ported a Switch / 3DS game to PC in UE5

Thumbnail

I have spent a while porting Ironfall Invasion. It first came out on the 3ds, it later came out on the switch. I have gotten good progress. I only started this because the 3ds version used a 100% custom engine and formats. I cracked all of them. So i moved to the switch, and began porting to UE5. This is very early, so not much to see.

Discussion **Atmosphere 1.12.1 is out. dns.mitm, fs.mitm, and browser patches are fixed. (Read the breaking change about fusee-primary).**

Atmosphere 1.12.1 is out. dns.mitm, fs.mitm, and browser patches are fixed. (Read the breaking change about fusee-primary).

The hold is over. hexkyz just tagged and released Atmosphere 1.12.1. If you've been sitting on 22.5.0 or limping along on 23.0.x with airplane mode glued to your face, it's time to update.

Here is exactly what 1.12.1 fixes, straight from the changelog and commit history:

  • dns.mitm: Fully reimplements c-ares serialization and intercepts the new sfdnsres IPC commands introduced in 23.0.0. The partial leak is officially closed. [CITED: Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere commit 90cd78a, 2fec688]
  • fs.mitm: Adds support for the new StorageForBatchRead interface. Custom themes (qlaunch) and save redirection work again. [CITED: Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere commit 0e9cd96]
  • Browser Patches: Completely redesigned. It now tricks the browser into thinking it has 1GB free, realistically reclaiming unused memory. This gives 40MB back to custom sysmodules and permanently fixes the News applet crash (Program 0100000000001042). [CITED: Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere changelog]
  • PRODINFO Backup: Fixed for OLED and recent consoles that lack the ECC-B233 device certificate, falling back to the RSA-2048 cert. [CITED: PR #2887 by chrisbraucker]
  • Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter: Compatibility fixed. [CITED: masagrator]

⚠️ CRITICAL BREAKING CHANGE ⚠️

fusee-primary no longer exists and will not work anymore. If you are using fusee directly, you must update to fusee.bin. If you are using Hekate, update to the latest release (6.5.4+). Do not skip this step or your console will not boot CFW.

What this means for your setup:

  1. Update: Grab vanilla Atmosphere 1.12.1 from the official GitHub.
  2. ES Patches: Keep using exactly ONE active ES patch method (sys-patch OR sigpatches). Running both is still redundant and risks conflicts. [CITED: bth]
  3. Overlays: The sysmodule budget is back to 40MB. You can start bringing your overlays back once their maintainers confirm 1.12.1 compatibility. (The HATS pre-release pack already has nx-ovlloader v2.0.3 + Tesla set ready to go. Horizon OC is still frozen per HOC #114).
  4. Network: Airplane mode is no longer strictly mandatory just to survive the DNS gap. However, the general rule of staying offline on CFW unless you have a specific, safe reason to go online remains the best practice.

The line has been crossed. 1.12.1 is officially tagged, distributed, and verified. Update your cards.

Byte-verified. Update safe.

Question New to the switch modding scene. Have a question about mods.

Hey everyone! I recently just got a modded switch OLED and was wondering how i can put mods in it for games? Example

I have P5R 60fps mod i would like to put onto my switch.

On my PC emulator its easy because its a simple file in the folder, but don't know how to do it (or if I can even do it) on the console. I don't want to break anything.

Question How to obtain updates for games on a modded switch?

I'm trying to load some mods for games on my switch, but some are incompatible because I have them on the update version that came on the gamecard. How would I go about updating them? Would I just have to disable dns-mitm and exosphere and download them normally from nintendo, or is there a specific way? These are all my games I own.

Question How can i play others animal crossings?

Theres some options out in the emulation sphere, the "deluxe" version of the original gamecube game, and the "deluxe" version of the World wide.

I have tried the World wide version, through Tico wii emulation, its pretty rubish in performance.

I seen ports of the original gamecube version for the Psvita, but not for switch.

And finally, Animal crossing New leaf, could be played through tico, but is not ideal in performance, neither with the 2 screen configuration, and as far i know theres no 1 screen version available.

thats all, would be helpful if you know a way to play those games in my modded oled, could make my day, thanks
