Politics 🐎 2 hours left, first time voter, who has the best chance of beating the Cons?

• Upvotes

I’ll (19) be voting for my first time in an hour or so. I’m very left leaning and would vote COPE or Green if I thought they had a chance. I would like to be strategic and intentional with my vote.

I’m hesitant to vote NDP, but it seems they have the best chance of beating the Conservatives.

Politics 🐎 What party are you voting for in the provincial elections?

I have always voted so my voice is heard, but this time I simply don't see ANY party I want in power:

Conservatives are in a state of disarray and voting for them will invite US interference
Greens are an option, but I honestly don't believe their leader is strong enough to deal with the US war we are currently involved in
NDP said they will put a tax on the rich - which will only make them leave the province and invest their money elsewhere. As well as Eby being the ass that thought this was a good time for an election.

I am seriously considering writing in "none of the above" for the first time in my over 60 years.

Wholesome ❤️ Putting myself out there! This is for the girlies.

Hey! I hope everyone’s doing well. I’m Jass and 21F in the south Surrey area.

I moved to BC almost a year ago and haven’t had much luck making friends. I’d love to meet some likeminded girls and just hangout!

I’m very open minded and I enjoy going on walks, anything sports related, trying new things, I’m open to anything really! I also like to gym and am very into spirituality and meditation. I love deep convos and talks of the unseen.

Hope to hear back :)

Local News 🤯 A subway network for British Columbia’s new largest city. A win for BC, and a path forward for Surrey.

I saw this posted on r/transit so I wanted to post it here. The author, Reece Martin, ran (runs?) the RMTransit YouTube channel and talks about/advocates for transit.

Interestingly, the author/site thinks the new line should also go to 156 Street, past Guildford. They don't like gaps in the network, and building three kilometres as a separate extension would be costly in the long run. It would also get the SkyTrain closer to Highway 1 for a future extension and express buses on the highway. Also, they state the Newton-Guildford section should be its own separate line instead of direct to downtown Vancouver, as the Expo Line is almost at capacity. There would be an interchange at Surrey Central or King George, probably rebuilding Surrey Central to the east of the existing station; my dream would be interchanges at both stations to reduce crowding when making transfers.

The article also points out how the BC Conservatives preferring SkyTrain over BRT echos how the BC Liberals wanted a SkyTrain extension to Coquitlam instead of LRT in the early 2000s (and how the conservatives pushing for more ambitious transit plans is politically strange).

Ask SurreyBC ❓ How do you decide whether a monthly Compass Pass is worth it?

Hey everyone!

I'm a CS college student in Metro Vancouver, and since I'll be finishing my studies this December, I won't have access to my U-Pass anymore.

With my U-Pass ending, I'm trying to figure out whether a monthly Compass Pass or paying per trip would be cheaper, especially since my commute varies with work schedules, travel times, and fare zones.

I've also been thinking about building a small, free tool that could help calculate this based on someone's regular commute routes and the days they expect to travel each month.

But before getting into development, I'm curious how other people approach this:

Do you manually calculate your expected trips before deciding whether to buy a monthly pass?

Have you ever purchased a monthly pass and later realized that paying per trip would've been cheaper?

Do changing work schedules, travel times, or fare zones affect your decision?

Are there any existing tools or methods you use to make this calculation easier?

I'd love to hear how other commuters handle this, especially those with irregular schedules or those who've recently transitioned away from a U-Pass.

Thanks!

Politics 🐎 Municipal vs Provincial Ballot Protocol?

Just wondering why when I voted in the Surrey municipal election I put my ballot through a machine to be counted and the provincial election ballot just went into a cardboard box?

I am not trying to imply that I trust one more than the other, as I do not know enough about it to make that judgement.

I was just surprised that the municipal election had “better” (newer) practices than the provincial. I would have expected the opposite

Politics 🐎 Video: Two men swap an NDP lawn sign for a Conservative one in Surrey, then toss the original on a neighbour's property

• Upvotes

Posting this because I think people should see it.
This video shows two men removing a lawn sign for NDP candidate Sahib Thind, replacing it with a sign for Conservative candidate Mandeep Dhaliwal, and then carrying the original sign to a neighbouring property and leaving it there.

I'm not claiming to know whether the candidate knew about this or directed it. That's a question for the campaign, and I'd like to hear their response. But if these men are connected to the campaign, it deserves an answer.

Tampering with another candidate's signs isn't a prank.

It's an attempt to undermine a fair contest, and it should be called out no matter which party it comes from.

Whatever your politics, this isn't how elections should work.

I've reported this to Elections BC.

Politics 🐎 Reminder: if you’re in line at a polling station by 8pm, you will get to vote

• Upvotes

If you’re rushing to vote by 8pm and encounter a long line-up at the voting location, don’t get discouraged and leave!
At 8pm someone from inside the polling station will come to the back of the line to mark the end of the line - everybody in line by 8pm will get to vote, no matter how long it takes.
