Hello, I don't have experience with 3D printing, but I am hoping to find some answers to understand which direction to go. I asked ChatGPT some questions, but I'd like some responses from those with experience to get more solid info from the community.
Details
* What: 150-200 whistles (https://makerworld.com/en/models/1986369-ice-out-whistle-keychain-open-license-support-free#profileId-2137344)
* Location: Sacramento, CA, USA
* Timeline: Within the next week or two
* Budget: $30 atm. Def can't afford to purchase a printer right now.
* For materials, I'm pretty sure I want to use PETG with a matte finish (based off ChatGPT).
* Colors: Any, but suggestions that would improve it are welcome.
* I should be competent enough to assemble a 3D Printer (26 yrs I.T.). But, not financially in the position to purchase one.
* A local company quoted me $50 for 100 units.
Why
* To hand these out at protests with ICE whistle codes & ACLU Know your rights info on lamented cards.
My questions
* What would be a reasonable price to have a local 3D printing service print my project?
* Do you think this would be a small enough project that someone with a 3D printer might be willing to print it for free or If I pay for materials?
* How long would this print size typically take?
* Would I be better off purchasing a 3D printer for the long run? I don't want anything too cheap in quality or one that is known for high failure rates. I can see myself using a 3D printer for a handful of things if i owned one.
Thank you!!
