If you're brigading to defend The SoapGirls, you'll be banned

Since this article dropped a few days ago, there's been an uptick in obvious new/throwaway accounts that make weird rambling posts and comments trying to defend the band, talking about how awesome they are as people and how's there's no possible way two white South Africans with a QAnon social media manager could possibly be racist.

No one cares, no one wants to hear it, and they're not going to fuck you. Stay in your weird Facebook group where you clamor for their attention and approval.

🎃🎃🎃 Mod post: Halloween costumes are ok by us

Hi all, we usually redirect selfies and fashion posts to other subreddits, but, for the next month or so, Halloween costumes are welcome here if the costume has a punk theme. Shout out to the kid who dressed up as Joey Ramone, we accept you.

Looking for punk bands for a skateboarding videogame!

Hey r/punk, I'm Kyle. I'm making a skateboarding video game called Grab Your Deck: you build your tricks and lines from cards - making combos before you fall. Kickflip + Shove-it + Shove-it = Tre Flip, check it out:

Where /r/punk comes in: my music sucks.
It's just some licensed, bland music from some storefront. It fits, but I don't love it, and I sure you wouldn't either. Sooooo..... gotta band?

Basically, I'm looking for small independent bands (probably) to offer a song or two to be used in the game.

What I can offer:
- Credit. Your band gets its own billing in the game's credits and on the store pages, up with the people who made the game (me), not down in the list of assets I used. Links to wherever you want people to find you.
- The game, free. Steam keys for the band, up to five.
- Your art in the game. Send me your art and I'll turn it into a board, a shirt and a poster in the game. It has to suit the game, and it has to be made by a person, not AI. Alternatively, I can come up with something to represent your band if you don't have something already.
- You keep everything. It's non-exclusive: the song stays yours to sell, stream and license anywhere. I'd just need a short written OK to use it in the game and its trailers.

What I'm looking for:
- Fast, loud, short songs. Think THPS (I get the warm fuzzies just thinking about it)
- They'd play while you skate, on the title screen and in the shop.
- Vocals are okay, but the lyrics need to be "PG" - the only "rating" the game has is the mild cartoon violence of bails, so any lyrics need to be appropriate for all ages.

I made the demo available this morning, but am not publicly announcing it for another week or so while I polish some of the rougher edges. Full game scheduled for release early November. Check it out on Steam!

Reach out here (comment or DM) or you can find me in the game's Discord, too.

Go to their reviews section and they have write-ups of tapes and CDs. Scroll through previous reviews to dig deeper.

I do miss buying physical copies of their rag, though.

What punk album changed the way you think, not just the way you listen to music?

I'm interested in records that had an impact beyond just being great albums. They don't have to be the most famous or influential punk releases, either. Sometimes a relatively obscure record hits harder because you hear it at exactly the right point in your life.

What punk album left you thinking differently afterward, and was it the lyrics, the music, or the attitude behind it that made the difference?

Jay Reatard was his generations' closest thing to Nick Blinko and his music should have been recognized on a greater scale than it was.

Give me songs

Edit: i appreciate everyone. You all showed up and helped me. I am not going to go through every comment saying "you get it." Pain is something that we all have to go through. Originanlly Kerry was my moms dog. She died in my hands at home. My mom died three years ago and ijust took her. I actually walked around my place expecting to hear the clitter clatter of her paws following me tonight. The only fuckin thing i know is that she isn't in pain anymore. Thank you all. From my fucked up deranged heart. Thank you.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Calvin (1998) - similar band suggestions???

I've been absolutely OBSESSED with this band and their discography. Also love Jon's other bands Boss Hog and Pussy Galore. His work with RL Burnside is phenomenal.

Any suggestions for similar bands? Stuff that's like unorthodox blues/garage punk mixed with things like hip hop or industrial.

Lyric video I threw together for Propagandhi's classic "The Only Good Fascist is a Very Dead Fascist" using footage I shot. Protest was to stop Jake Lang's "crusade" on the annual Palestine festival being held in Bridgeview IL on 10/4.

Which punk song went from satire to feeling uncomfortably real?

Some punk songs were written as exaggerations or warnings, but years later, the lyrics can feel less like satire and more like a description of everyday life.

Bad Religion's "The New Dark Ages" and Dead Kennedys' "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now" are interesting examples of how punk can use sarcasm and political criticism without losing its musical identity.

What punk song hits differently when you listen to it today than it did when it first came out? I'm especially interested in songs that seemed over-the-top at the time but don't feel quite so exaggerated anymore.

Looking for music recommendations

Hey guys! I have been listening to punk and its many subgenres for ~a year. I just found an album and specific song I LOVE, and would love some suggestions for new artists/albums/songs/whatever.

Favorites currently:

Somewhere City by Origami Angel (album)

Prince Daddy and the Hyena (self named album)

A random exercise in impermanence by Prince Daddy and the hyena (song)

Been listening to some Green Day here and there, as well.

Thanks!

This was an amazing show. All the bands were aggressive and fast, and the pit was very chaotic. Hard to see in the video though
