Elections Election Day, get out and vote Tuesday November 3, 2026
As always, this is an informational post. Please don't use this post to promote parties or candidates.
Make sure your vote is counted.
If you are mailing in your ballot, there are some developments at USPS. Please consider mailing earlier than usual.
- Supreme Court rules the Postal Service can’t be sued, even when mail is intentionally not delivered
- Regional Optimization: Mail sent from locations more than 50 miles from a regional processing center may take longer, as end-of-day collections are reduced, causing mail to wait until the next day for transport. Source
An ongoing issue with USPS should be monitored closely. Please keep this in mind so that an alternative plan can be made.
U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani’s July 25 ruling that the USPS can’t refuse to deliver mail ballots to states that refuse to comply with the U.S. Justice Department’s (DOJ) demands for their unredacted voter lists will remain in place. SourceOn July 28: The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia affirmed a lower court’s decision, holding that a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Trump’s March 2026 edict was premature because the administration hasn’t executed it yet. Source
A Massachusetts federal judge has repeatedly blocked the U.S. Postal Service from implementing President Donald Trump's mail-in voting executive order ahead of the midterms. Now that the injunction applies nationwide, the DOJ is telling the U.S. Supreme Court it has all it needs to swiftly issue a stay. Source
The SAVE America Act is still in play as of July 26 and may affect voting. Please consider getting all of your paperwork in order. Note that it can take several weeks to get documents on marriage and legal name changes. The PA Real ID is not compliant with the Save America Act. Update As of August 12, the Senate has gone on recess without passing the SAVE America Act.

Pennsylvania potato chip brands barbecue chips frenzy!
I recently visited family and friends in eastern Pennsylvania (currently live in the DC area but I'm originally from the Lehigh Valley/ABE area), and picked up as many Keystone State-based brands’ barbecue chips for some future taste testing.
A few brands, such as Snyder of Berlin (not sold in eastern PA), Hartley’s (didn’t go through the Harrisburg area where some stores have them), and Zerbe’s (few stores sell them) aren’t represented, and a small number of barbecue chips variants among the included brands, such as Herr’s baked barbecue, are also missing, but most brands’ various barbecue chips are included.
Now I just need to figure out how to eat these chips without spiking my blood pressure, having a stroke, or worst of all, turning into Lot’s wife, LOL.
NOTE: I have also posted this thread on [r/chips](r/chips) and [r/snacking](r/snacking).

Politics Beagle Bill would help protect animals in Pennsylvania laboratories
"The Beagle Bill (SB 381)...is expected to receive final votes in the Pennsylvania House and Senate next week. These votes will determine if Pennsylvania becomes the next state to give dogs and cats used in research or testing the opportunity to be adopted after the experiments on them have ended. The bill also prevents the sale of animal-tested cosmetics in Pennsylvania."

Hi everyone what are your recommendations on places / events to take children? I just recently got out of an abusive relationship and am able to start getting out and doing things with the kids ages 9,7,6,4,3,6 months. I am open to any recommendations within the state so please don’t hesitate based on location and will look into everywhere people list.

Social Services Social workers in PA: Do we have a community outpatient CM program funded by Medicaid?
In New York State I had HHUNY, which allowed people on Medicaid plans to get a community CM who would help (especially for homeless patients) in getting established with services, including enrollment in permanent housing program. It was easy to make a referral online and you could leave your phone number as the referral source in the event that the patient did not have their own cell phone. Do we have some sort of equivalent program?

Politics [The Downballot] Pennsylvania Republicans have pulled back to their last bastion—the state Senate
Having given up any hope of unseating Gov. Josh Shapiro and with little chance of reclaiming the state House, Pennsylvania Republicans have launched an all-out war to save their majority in the state Senate—and prevent Democrats from taking full control of state government for the first time since 1994.
The Philadelphia Inquirer, citing data from AdImpact, reported Wednesday that Republicans have spent more than $15 million on TV and streaming ads, both to protect four vulnerable incumbents in the eastern part of the state and to target Democratic Sen. James Malone.
Democrats, likewise, have deployed more than $12 million to unseat that quartet of Republicans and help Malone, who is defending the conservative Lancaster County seat he flipped last year in a shocking special election victory.
Only half of the 50-member chamber is up each election cycle, so both parties will need to wait until 2028 to target other competitive districts.
Democrats, who aren’t at serious risk of losing any of their other seats this year, need to win three of those five races to turn what’s now a 27-23 Republican majority into a 25-25 deadlock. Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, Shapiro’s running mate in next month’s election, would then be able to use his tie-breaking vote to support his party on procedural matters, such as choosing the chamber’s leader and deciding when bills receive a vote....

ISO / Recommendations Any Project Hail Mary fans in eastern PA or NJ who are tattoo artists?
I'm looking to get a Project Hail Mary tattoo, and I'd really love to find a tattoo artist who is also a fan of the book/movie!
I'm in the Philly suburbs and am willing to travel an hour or two for the right artist, including around Philly, eastern PA, or New Jersey.
Ideally, I'd love to work with someone who genuinely appreciates the story and would be excited to create something inspired by it. If you're a tattoo artist who loves PHM, or if you know an artist nearby who does, I'd love some recommendations!
Amaze, amaze, amaze!
