Robo Calls Flooding Michigan

The Michigan Legislature has failed to pass legislation regulating telephone solicitations, robocalls and text-message marketing. I am getting dozens of harassing calls daily even though I have repeatedly requested no calls and on the no call list.

I get calls from unknown numbers as matter of business and life. I receive one of these calls I mute the phone and let it stay connected. Doesn't seem to impact the number of calls.

Are you frustrated with this harassment? What is your solution? Hoping a politician will make life better seems delusional!

Activate Port Huron, Michigan, he's coming to town. Organizers, do your thing!

We learned, after organizing multiple protests across Ohio, that we can help across the country.

Trump is holding a midterm rally Sunday, October 25, at McMorran Place Arena, 701 McMorran Blvd. in Port Huron. Doors open at 11:30 AM, and remarks begin at 3:00 PM. His speaking time hasn't been announced.

Full disclosure: we're Burning River Brigade, a protest group from Cleveland. We did the same thing at his Youngstown rally on October 12. We're not coming up for this one, so it's on Port Huron folks to organize, but we made a flyer anyone is welcome to use.

What worked for us: start setting up around 11:00, before doors open, and stay until the motorcade passes so he actually sees you. We don't know the route, and Secret Service and police may move people around, so locals know best where to stand. Stay on public sidewalks, keep it peaceful, and stay together.

About the sign in the photo: we're not calling for violence. Everybody goes eventually, and we're just looking forward to the day we never have to hear his voice again. Until then, a long, long stretch in prison will accomplish the same thing.

If anyone from Port Huron, Indivisible, 50501 or a union local is already planning something, drop the details here so people can find you.

Analysis Michigan Senate debate, 2026-10-21: what each candidate said, analyzed

I built a tool that reads political text and flags rhetorical techniques, things like loaded language, name calling, appeals to fear. Ran it on the full WXYZ Senate debate, every answer from both candidates.

One from each side:

El-Sayed, "He supports ICE running through your streets." flagged as loaded language and appeal to fear

Rogers, "He's so married to that Democrat socialist agenda" flagged as name calling

A flag is about the wording, not whether what they said is true or who's right. Speakers were checked by hand against the broadcast.

It also checks the factual claims each of them made, against fact-checkers and primary sources. Those are on the page too, under each candidate.

Every answer with timestamps is on the page.

If you think it got one wrong I'd like to hear it, that's how I fix it.

Reporter question: Are you voting early this year? Why?

Hey folks, same reporter here with another question. I've spoken with some Democratic voters who are nervous about mail-in ballots this year and have changed their normal voting habits to either drop off their ballots very early or opt to vote early in person. If you are one of those voters, I'd really like to chat with you for a story for the Washington Sun. DM me or email me at nataliefertig@gmail.com. Thanks!
