Snow Emergency in Livonia

Post image
62 Upvotes

Sorry for having two posts in three days. Generally we try to space out stuff here, but this is important:

A snow emergency is being declared for the City of Livonia. All vehicles must be removed from the streets by 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26 under City ordinance. Vehicles not removed shall be subject to ticketing and/or towing.

Clearing the roadways of snow will result in snow piles in front of driveways, which is unavoidable. It is not possible for the City to clear individual driveways. Larger plow vehicles cannot access courts, cul-de-sacs and dead ends; smaller equipment will follow up to clear these areas.

A Winter Storm Adivory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until midnight Monday, Jan. 26. Total snow accumulations between 4-6 inches are possible.

As a reminder, most major roads in Livonia are maintained by Wayne County including Ann Arbor Road, Grand River, Eight Mile, Seven Mile, Six Mile, Five Mile, Plymouth, Joy, Haggerty, Wayne south of Plymouth, Farmington, Merriman, Middlebelt and Inkster. You can contact Wayne County Public Services department at (313) 937-0232 regarding these roads.

Livonia crews maintain Schoolcraft, Newburgh, Ann Arbor Trail, Levan, Stark, half-mile roads such as West Chicago, Lyndon, Hubbard and neighborhood streets. The best way to report a missed street is through the City of Livonia app that can be found on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Doing so will automatically generate a work order. Otherwise, you can report a missed road plow by calling Livonia Public Service at (734) 466-2655. More information can be found on our DPW Snow Removal page at Livonia.gov/1534.

Please help our Department of Public Works Snow Crew by following these tips:

- Move vehicles: Keep cars off streets to help plows whenever possible.

- Avoid driving: Only go out if necessary.

- Give plows space: Don't crowd the trucks as they work.

- Help neighbors: Assist with snow clearing when possible.

- Be patient: It will take time to clear all the snow.

- Don’t push snow into streets: Keep it out of the way of traffic.

- Support the crew: Wave or give a thumbs up to our hardworking team.

- Sign up for alerts: Register at LivoniaCodeRED.org.

- Stay safe: Be cautious while driving or shoveling.

We had to bundle up for this PSA

If you need a break from the cold, you’re welcome to stop by the Kirksey Recreation Center during regular hours, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Livonia Public Library is also open as a respite center during normal operating hours (visit livonialibrary.info/hours-locations/ for details).

Please limit time outdoors as much as possible. If you do need to go outside, be sure to wear a hat, gloves, and a coat, and keep pets indoors. This weather is just as dangerous for them. It’s also a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your car with warm clothes, a blanket, snacks, and a phone charger. Stay safe and think warm thoughts.

Only 55 days until spring!

HELP. PUBLIC STORAGE AUCTIONS. HELP

hey I'm high Reddit community,

first off I like to thank THE MOST HIGH FOR BEING SO GRACIOUS AND MERCIFUL IN MY LIFE, AND SENDING THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON TO TAKE UPON MY SINS.

THIS IS MY FIRST POST.

I am in a unfortunate circumstance and my apology to anyone I might offend by asking for something seemingly so small but very important to me.

I hope this post reaches the right person. ❤️

I’m reaching out to the storage auction community with a personal request, and I apologize in advance if this post offends anyone. I’m simply hoping to reconnect with someone who may have purchased my storage unit at Public Storage on Newburgh Road in Livonia, Michigan. The unit went up for auction on October 20, 2026. Unit D105

For the past eight months, my family and I have been. experiencing serious financial hardship following a car accident. I’ve struggled to keep gas in the car, put food on the table, and keep up with multiple bills. After moving out of a home with black mold in the basement, we moved into another home with exposed insulation, adding even more stress during an already difficult time. These circumstances have taken a tremendous toll on my health and well-being.

When we moved, I had to downsize and place many of our belongings into storage. Eventually, I had to move some of those belongings into a smaller unit at the same facility. Unfortunately, being out of work and struggling to keep up with my car note, insurance, gas, rent, and other necessities left me unable to keep up with the storage payments.

I understand that the unit was auctioned, and I respect the process. I’m not trying to take anything away from anyone or cause any problems. I’m simply asking whether the person who purchased my unit might be willing to reach out to me if they come across any personal or sentimental belongings.

There were clothes and other items that hold special memories for my family, along with an office chair and other belongings. Some of these things may not seem valuable to anyone else, but they mean something to us. Losing them has been difficult, especially knowing that I was trying my best to keep everything together during a very hard season of life.

If you’ve read this far, thank you for taking the time to hear my story. If you purchased this unit, or know someone who did, I would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to connect. Even if there is only a chance of recovering a few sentimental items, it would mean more to me than I can explain.

Please feel free to send me a private message or contact me at 313-351-5510.

Thank you for your kindness, understanding, and consideration. I truly appreciate it. ❤️

School/ community Farm guidance

I volunteer with a local PTA. I am trying to write up a garden proposal that in hopes would turn into a small farm for a local school district. Not Livonia but nearby.

With that said if anyone knows anything about operating a small farm, costs associated with them, and even if anyone has done anything like this? Was thinking maybe the people who operate greenmead would be a good resource?

Anyway looking for some help with ideas!

Dispensary Delivery with Cashless Payment?

Hey y'all I live near 96 and Farmington, was wondering if there are any cashless dispensary delivery sites? I know PUFF out in the 248 does, but cannot seem to find any around here. They all seem to say "cash upon delivery." Thanks in advance.

Inviting all children who stutter to volunteer in a paid University of Michigan MRI Study!

Post image
2 Upvotes

The Speech Neurophysiology Lab at the University of Michigan is looking for children who stutter ages 9 to 12 to participate in an in-person, longitudinal MRI study! (HUM00196133)

Our research team has been examining brain development in young children to better understand the cause of stuttering for over 10 years. We continue to gain information that may eventually lead to improved diagnosis and treatment efforts for children who stutter.

Participants will be invited to complete speech and language assessments and an MRI session at the University of Michigan. Families receive a free speech and language report and a picture of their brain!

These visits require in person participation. There is no option to participate virtually.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in participating or email us as the flyer attached. All participants are compensated and partial travel assistance is available. Please see our flyer attached for more details!

We also offer other studies that are open to adults or do not involve MRI, in case you're unsure about eligibility. Feel free to email us or call if you have any questions!

Former Livonia Mayor Jack E. Kirksey Passes Away at the Age of 97

Post image
39 Upvotes

The City of Livonia is saddened to share the news of the passing of former Mayor Jack E. Kirksey, who died Oct. 13, 2026, at the age of 97.

For generations of Livonia residents, Mayor Kirksey was more than a leader — he was a familiar face, a trusted presence and a driving force behind the community we know today. His years of public service helped shape Livonia’s future, leaving a lasting mark on our neighborhoods, our institutions and the lives of the people he served.

During his 16 years as Mayor – 1996-2003 and 2008-2015 – Kirksey initiated the funding for and led construction of the Livonia Community Recreation Center; established the Fallen Heroes Memorial at Nehasil Park; led construction of new 16th District Court; helped the city establish a booming economic corridor along Haggerty Road; and accomplished so much more.

Among the accolades Mayor Kirksey received over the years, the Livonia Recreation Center was named in his honor in 2016, and he and his wife, Patt, were chosen for the Livonia First Citizen Award in 2016.

On a personal level, Mayor Kirksey will be remembered for his sharp wit, his ability to connect easily with people, his strong leadership style, and his political acumen. He also retained his youthful vigor well into his mid-80s, often walking two-thirds of a mile home and back for lunch every day and climbing the 88 steps up to the fourth floor from the basement at City Hall.

“Mayor Kirksey always led with humor. That was his secret sauce,” said Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan. “His legacy lives on in the places he helped build, the people he brought together and the spirit of community he helped strengthen.”

Mayor Kirksey’s beloved wife, Patt, passed away five years ago. After moving from Livonia, Mayor Kirksey had been living in an assisted living facility in Northville. No services are planned at this time.

Mayor Kirksey’s legacy is woven into the fabric of the city he served. The City of Livonia extends heartfelt condolences to all who knew and loved Mayor Kirksey.

Ann Arbor Road Under Hines

What is the story on Ann Arbor Rd under Hines Drive? I feel like no work has been done for months, yet it is still closed down to two lanes? Did they redo it and it is not rated for the weight of two lanes? Are they using it to store the cones and cement barriers? It’s the last piece of construction in the area and I am just trying to understand the reasoning since it regularly contributes to backups for no apparent reason.

Downballot races

Hey all - This is my first election in Livonia, and I'm struggling to find much info on some of the downballot races. Does anyone have any resources, pointers, even opinions about any of the downballot/local races? Especially on the Schoolcraft College millage, the three university regent elections, the circuit court judges, and the school board.

Just to avoid anything too tense, let's stick to the non-Lansing/DC elections please!
