It's M43 Monday! Ask Us Anything about Micro Four-Thirds Photography - all questions welcome!

Please use this thread to ask your burning questions about anything micro four-thirds related.

  • Wondering which lens you should buy next?
  • Can't decide between Olympus and Panasonic?
  • Confused about how the clutch system works on some lenses?

These are all great questions, but you probably have better ones. Post 'em and we'll do our best to answer them.

It's 'Post your M43 photo' Thursday! Come share your best work with the community!

You've spent an entire week with your Micro Four-Thirds camera, documenting the world as it is, how it was, or how you think it should be. It's time to show us those photos and bask in the glory that only a weekly photo thread can bring!

Rules:

  1. The photo must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may only post one photo per week. Pick only your best work and show it off!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about the camera, the lens and the environment as possible. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M1 w/ Panasonic 25mm f/1.8 lens @ 25mm f/2.0 ISO100 Time: 5:40PM in Los Angeles, California" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. Above all, be respectful. There's a big difference between the following comments: "OMG THAT PHOTO IS HORRIBLE" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven".

Stepping into photography as a hobby with the E-P7

A couple of weeks back I went to Japan and I took the opportunity to buy my first camera. After about 3 months of research, I landed on the E-P7, it's nothing special but it perfectly caters to my needs.

I started using the camera right away with no experience whatsoever. Suffice to say, I'm loving this camera.

I got the double zoom kit version and I purchased the Oly 45 f1.8 as well, spending a total of around $750 for the body and 3 lenses.

Most of the pictures here are taken with either the 14-42 kit lens or the 45 f1.8 lens. I did like the SooC look for some of them, but almost all of these were edited in Snapseed. I didn't know how to change the shooting format to raw+jpeg (I learnt it later), so throughout my trip I only shot LF jpegs.

A weekend walk to Lisbon.

Without any set objective... just a stroll with the family, but always bringing a small photo setup with me—this time the OM-5 plus the Zuiko 12-45mm f/4.

Lucky me, we decided to walk by the river and passed by the MAAT museum, famous for its beautiful geometric building.

I had never been successful in taking a photo of it that I actually liked... I had always tried wide angles before. This time, I tried a different approach and got this...

Hope you like it!

Just received my new OM System PEN yesterday and finally had a chance to go on a photo walk! I know the sensor is from the E-M1 Mk III, but I genuinely love the JPGs that come straight of camera!

Photoshoot we did for a university's play, still relatively new to portraiture and digital as a whole listening to the noise online I was starting to doubt whether MFT's the "right choice" for portraits compared to FF and this setup's been a real delight- long may the system reign. Let me know if you guys have any feedback

Rallye Casinos do Algarve 2026 Portimao.

Taken at 1/125s. First time photographing moving subjects. Wanted to go for a "moving action look". Still not sure, if the cars are a bit too blurry.

Tried to do focus stacking, but there was a bit of wind. This isn't the best lens for this. I need to pull the trigger on the 60mm f2.8 Macro.

Four Thirds Office warns against products by “non-member companies”

Official announcement: “The Four Thirds Office does NOT guarantee that products manufactured or sold by non-member companies comply with the Micro Four Thirds System standard or are compatible with individual devices.” Source: https://www.four-thirds.org/en/news/products-from-non-member-companies/

While not naming names, the FT Office apparently is referring to Viltrox, SG-image, and (rumored) Insta360. I wonder if this is just FUD though. Micro Four Thirds was introduced more than 26 years ago, and compatibility shouldn’t be an issue by now, especially not in the age of updatable firmware and AI-assisted reverse engineering.

Just testing the lens out over the weekend in a local nature reserve.

No decent fauna shots, but was impressed by the rendering SOOC on this autumn teasel!

Olympus E-M10 Mk IV (2022-26) - you've been a legend

I finally upgraded to an OM System OM-5 II, so here's me celebrating the E-M10 with 20 photos. While the OM-5 II is certainly much better for stabilisation, low-light and computational photography among other minor upgrades, I do sometimes miss the lighter E-M10 and its longer battery life.

Upcoming Iceland Trip

• Upvotes

What would be a dream lens (or 2) to experience Iceland with? My current lineup includes a OM 12-45/f4, OM 14-140/f4-5.6, and a PL 9/f1.7. All are mated to an OM5 Mk II. We’re going in May for a bucket list adventure.

GX85 + 14-140 is a combo that's hard to beat

I do find myself wanting the S9 (especially with it on sale right now), but there's just so much I still love about my GX85 that it's hard to justify the upgrade. Have any of you made that leap? I'd love to hear the pros and cons you've experienced.

These shots were taken by me a few days ago near Seabrook, WA. The 14-140 is my go-to most days.
