I’d love to hear from those who have gone through something similar! What has your experience been like, both the good and the challenging parts? I’d really appreciate hearing your stories, advice, and anything you wish you had known before making the move.

Question My boyfriend keeps disappearing during fights for weeks or months, then comes back like nothing happened. What should I do? (LDR, 3 years)

My boyfriend and I have been in a long-distance relationship for almost 3 years. Whenever we have an argument or a problem, instead of talking things through and fixing it together, he disappears and stops communicating with me.

The longest he has gone without talking to me was 2 and a half months. After that, he comes back as if nothing happened, and somehow we continue the relationship. He even promised me that he would never do it again, but when we had another problem, he did exactly the same thing and disappeared again.

I’m emotionally exhausted because I feel like I’m the only one willing to communicate and work through our problems. I understand that people sometimes need space after an argument, but I don’t think disappearing for weeks or months without any explanation is healthy, especially in a long-distance relationship where communication is so important.

What makes it harder is that he keeps promising to change, but his actions never seem to match his words.

For those who have experienced something similar, what did you do? Should I give him another chance, or is this a sign that I need to walk away? How do you stop holding on to someone you love when they keep repeating the same behavior despite promising to change?

I’d really appreciate honest advice, especially from people who have been in long-term LDRs or dealt with a partner who repeatedly disappears during conflicts.

Question Necesito consejos para mí relación

• Upvotes

¡Hola!

His family doesn’t like me

It’s not the first time he got kicked out because of his granny and few days later, his family accepted him back. This time, his granny apparently lost 200£ in her bank and all his relatives and his granny accused him of giving it to me, which maybe led to her disliking me. I’ve talked to her in a call before but we were having language barriers, but I didn’t know she would dislike me this badly. I’ve never taken or asked money from my boyfriend throughout our 10 months relationship cuz i know he’s struggling. In fact, he’s the one who has 1800 debt with me and never even mention of paying me back.

His granny almost called a police on him for stealing her money which he didn’t do. His granny and aunties been leeching on him every months everytime he got paid but he never said a thing. So he got kicked out for almost a month and been living at his cousin’s house before they had a disagreement and he moved back to his granny house. (He refused to pay the 200 electricity bill debt which wasn’t even his. But i lent him rm370 of my money to help him pay half of the electricity.)

Then time skip when he settled at his granny’s house, She told him to do this and to do that and my boyfriend just went along with it to get on her good side. And i told him to not trust anyone in his family cuz they could do him bad anytime they want and told him to work on himself, find cheap apartment to stay. But he said its hard to do it cuz there’s lots of paperworks going on. So right know he doesn’t know what to do cuz his granny could’ve kicked him out anytime. I suggested to break up, but he doesn’t want. But that’s the best option. I really love him so much and he really love him too, but i just want him to have somewhere to stay and be happy like he used to. Everyone in his family said he changed since i date him, and Im very confused. I never talked to them unless my boyfriend forced me on a call.

For extra information, we lives 6579 km away, never even meet

Question Is it normal to feel weird about virtual intimacy after spending time together in person? NSFW

Really weird question, but I (21F) wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this because I’m quite a sensitive person and not really sure how to deal with it.

I just got back home this week after spending a month and a half with my boyfriend (23M), and I’ve been struggling a little with the adjustment back to long distance.

We both lost our virginities to each other, and got to experience a lot of physical intimacy that we obviously don’t get to have when we’re apart. It was genuinely such an amazing experience that made the wait and distance worth it. But now that I’m back home, I feel like i’ve lost interest in masturbating, having virtual sex, or sending nudes. Even when I’m in the mood, I feel kind of guilty/sad, or even unfulfilled afterwards?

Having experienced what it’s like to actually be physically close to him, doing things virtually doesn’t feel the same as it did before. He was genuinely fantastic and I miss being able to touch him, cuddle with him, and just have him there with me. Doing any intimate action online now just kind of reminds me that he could make me feel so much better, but he isn’t actually here and it makes me really emotional.

Is this is a normal response and does it get easier over time? It’s been less than a week so maybe it’s too soon to tell. Is there anything I could do to make it easier to cope when we are back to long distance?

please help me, i don’t want to cry anymore while trying to do things solo lol :,)

I thought he was getting my favorite finnish gummies for the ride home outta there. All of a sudden he turned around and asked me to marry him! I was so shocked the first thing i said was “Is this a bit? Are you for real right now?!” I cant wait to marry him next year! Ive already found my dress! I just wanted to share with everyone ❤️

Story Happy surprise

My girlfriend(40f) and I(32M) have been together for only a short period of time(1week). We’ve been talking for 2.5 months and gone on 2 dates. Since we’ve been official, I haven’t seen her and won’t until Halloween. So two more weeks and I’ve been missing her :( on our last date(at her place) she ended up giving me a blanket for my kids and a “cubby”. Incredibly sweet. Today was the first time I opened the bag, and I gave the kids the bear. They loved it!! Then my daughter (3) saw the blanket! I unfolded it and put it on the bed. I got a waft of the blanket, and I realized the blanket smelled like her 🥹🥹🥹 so the kids and I are snuggled up and I’ve got the blanket corner balled up and I keep smelling it. Call me crazy all you want, I’ve realized I’ve fallen so hard for her and now I have to wait until Halloween to see her and I’ll be staying the night at her place for the first time as well. Ugh. Yeah my chest feels like it’s gonna explode 😂💕

Need Advice My boyfriend (23M) feels very sex deprived in LDR. He’s also acting weird. And I (F20) don’t know how to feel about it. NSFW

• Upvotes

My boyfriend and have been dating for 2 years and we have been long distance for 1.5 years. In the past 1.5 years, we saw each other once last October. We’re meeting soon and then I’m also planning to fly out to see him more now that I saved money.

We had a conversation about him being really sex deprived. He had been saying it every so often but this time he came to me asking for help or suggestions. He basically told me he’s overly horny, he’s not going to be okay, and his hormones are going out of control.

I get it because we haven’t done it in genuinely a year. But he mentioned seeing a prostitute “jokingly” and then said “but i guess not because you’d hate me forever” and didn’t give any other solution besides that. He’s been acting weird lately…

  1. He’s been asking me what I would do if he cheated on me, and then told me to forgive him if I ever did. I never even mention cheating on him bc I know I won’t
  2. He’s been messaging random girls on discord to be friends. Originally he told me that girls and guys can’t be friends and so I purposely don’t respond to guys in my college trying to text me, even if they are super innocent texts that are from guys I have mutual friends with. He showed me his messages with one girl because I was curious. She genuinely sends him selfies and then they have these super long back and forth texting conversations. She wanted to call him last midnight to watch him screen-share a game 💀

He said no though since he was about to sleep. But

  1. he keeps texting her even though he says she probably likes him. She lives in the same city as him too :/.
  2. He has this kink that I told him I’m not comfortable doing. So he mentioned (maybe as a joke???) wanting to have sex with another girl to do it with instead. But says he doesn’t want to hurt me.

And then that in combination with him saying he’s needs to have sex. Like he’s needs to fuck and fulfill his physical needs. Although he told me “I don’t want to fuck whores”. He also thinks I’m being confusing when I say that I’m going to break up with him if he fucks someone else and also say that it’s his choice to make though if he wants to hook up with other people. (If he’s going to want to cheat I rather it happen sooner than later).

I just feel very doubtful right now. I genuinely don’t trust him well and we are seeing eachother so soon so I want to feel better but I just haven’t the last 5 days. Additionally, he told me that I come to him when I’m sad too much that it looks like I’m seeking attention. And it reminds him of the boy who cried wolf. So i don’t feel comfortable telling him how much this hurts me. I just feel disrespected that he even believes these things and feels the desire to talk or fuck other girls. I know he values a relationship with me but still feel bitter.

What can I do to make this relationship better? I’m already planning to see him more often but he brought this up genuinely a few days before meeting me.

I can’t fucking spell , ADVICE.** lol

‼️Fair warning this is a long read! And I’m desperate for some advice ‼️

Im a 28 y/o F from the U.S, he’s 32 y/o M from the U.K

So this a bit messy, here’s some context. I’m currently living with my ex, it’s hard financially for me to move out just yet, especially with my name on the mortgage. My ex and I aren’t married but we have a lot of financial ties together and he was honestly my first and only relationship, 9 years. (That’s for another story, not on this thread) we’ve been split up for 2months. I know what you’re thinking, 9 years and already with someone? Mentally I checked out 4 years ago when he began being physically abusive and started drinking more, I finally mustered up the courage to say enough is enough… kinda.

With that being said my current LD BF is aware, we spontaneously met on a stranger chat room, I really wasn’t looking, we just clicked off the bat and exchanged numbers on day one. We did move fast… by fast, I mean we’ve been dating less than a month and have talked for a little over a month. He asked me out within a week and a half of us talking, I said yes. He was the first one who said “I Love you” I reciprocated. Yes, we both know this is moving fast, Yes, with both know we don’t really know one another, and Yes, this is BOTH our first time being in a LDR.

When it comes to communicating it’s tricky, by tricky our time zones are 6hours apart. As well as living with my ex still who does go through my phone so unfortunately I have to uninstall WhatsApp when we’re both home, in case he accidentally stumbles upon our messages. That would not end well. So really the only time we talk is when I’m working ( I work EMS, so 48 hour shifts) or when he’s not home or I’m out and about.

He’s been great at working around my schedule, he understands my situation and works around it. Like staying up late to talk to me via text, phone call or even F.T and falling asleep together. The first two and a half weeks of being officially a couple our communication was great. However this week I’ve noted some delays and what feels like distance between our text. I’ve expressed it twice already, he says he’s just tried with all the late night finally catching up to him, but literally the last two days our messages have went down to pauses of 4+hours in between, which is unusual. His excuse for the last couple of days has been “I’m catching up on sleep”, “doing chores/errands” or “I’m playing my game.
I messaged him today about it bothering me and I felt like he was annoyed for bringing it up, I feel like I’m not giving him enough credit, idk I just feel like something is off. Tonight was the first day he didn’t message me “I love you” or “Goodnight” text and it fucking was a punch to my gut. As well as the first time saying he didn’t wanna talk but had time to play his games… I’m currently at work hoping I don’t get a call because I can’t stop crying.

These are the messages from today. First time he didn’t feel up to talking on the phone which also hurt, we normally fall asleep on the phone while I’m at work if I’m not busy running calls. Idk what to do, I truly care for him.

Venting 11 days of silence and we met online a week before he vanished and I'm losing my mind overthinking

Hey everyone. I really need a safe space to vent because I feel like I'm losing my mind, but I also feel so foolish for being this anxious.

We met online and were only in the talking stage for about a week. Then 11 days ago, he sent me a last-minute text saying he was completely exhausted, but had to go on a late-night drive to pick up a friend who was too drunk to drive. He was really frustrated about having to do it on top of being so tired.

And right after that text it's complete radio silence for 11 days straight. Plus his socials are also completely dead no movement at all.

He is in the military, and I’ve read online that military training blocks can sometimes go on for weeks with zero phone access. But because he disappeared immediately after that specific drive text, my brain keeps cycling between, Is he stuck in a multi-week field exercise without phone access, or did something happen on that drive?

On top of everything, we're dealing with a massive 10 hour time zone gap. Because we only knew each other for a week and were just in the talking stage, I feel so helpless and dumb for panicking like this over someone I haven't even known for long. But the uncertainty is consuming me.

Has anyone who talks to someone in the military dealt with sudden blackouts like this early on? How do you keep yourself sane when you have no idea what's going on?

Need Advice Husband (M 40’s) taking a job in Hawaii. Me (F 40’s) looking for advice

My husband got a job opportunity with his company for a promotion in Hawaii. It’s an amazing opportunity and the position that he’s been working for (locally) for 6 years. I’m encouraging him to take it.

We’ve been very happily married 25 years. We’ve lived on the east coast of the US for 24 years. Same home. Large extended family and two adult children.

I started a new career 2 years ago that pays very well that I will not be able to transfer there nor find work in the same field in Hawaii.

The plan we are leaning towards: he goes with just some clothes and essentials and gets a furnished rental. I stay here for at least a year and continue working. After a year, his profit sharing should kick in and I can likely stop working or go back to remote freelance work. Then I can go there during the winters and he can come back periodically using his 4 weeks of vacation per year. Or I can decide to join him there and likely rent out our house.

I’m just not ready to leave here yet for many reasons including family, health, our senior dog.

I don’t want to give up our home (it’s paid off) because I understand that a vast majority of people leave Hawaii after just a year. I think it makes sense to do the long distance thing until we see how it works out and I can continue working here and saving $ in case we do decide to buy a home there.

Any tips or thoughts for my situation?

Had anyone else here been married and living together for a long time then transitioned to a long distance marriage?

4.5 year LDR, but the intimacy part broke us.

We were 4.5 years in, long distance. First 2-3 years were fine. When we’d get leave, I’d go home and we’d spend time like normal. Smooth.

Then the missing got bad. We couldn’t meet often, so we started doing intimacy online. It was tough, but I thought it was working.

The real issue started when I began pushing her to do it. I thought she was into it, that she was enjoying it too. Turns out she wasn’t. At all.

Slowly she pulled away from that completely. Now she’s shut down. Doesn’t initiate anything. Even a small fight and she goes silent for days.

And the worst part? She was only doing it to make me happy. Not because she wanted to. So I killed what little interest she had.

We still talk. We still try to fix things. But the closeness is gone, and it’s my fault.

Question How Long without texting in LD?

Hiii! :)

I wanted to ask how Long do you guys in LDR go without texting each other? Especially if the other person told you they are struggling Right now but dont really want to Talk about it?

For context we arent really in a relationship yet but have been texting romantically everyday for 3 weeks now and showed interest in each other

I Said I would wait but we havent had a proper convo since a Week and the last time we texted was few days ago and only about how they have to deal with smth rn but didnt explicitly say what is going on

Last time I was in contact with someone I kept getting ghosted for weeks and then months before they admitted they were just using me for my Looks so I‘m honestly scared smth like this might happen again!

Thank you for your advice! :)

Question Is it worth dating on Hinge if I know I’ll be long distance for a while?

I (21F) am currently on Hinge looking for a long-term relationship, but I’m a little unsure whether it’s worth pursuing right now because of my circumstances.

This year, I’ll be travelling around quite a bit for university placements, and once I finish uni, I have no idea where in the world I’ll end up working. Because of this, I feel like any relationship I start could end up being long distance, at least for a while.

I really do want to be in a relationship, and I’m happy to put in the effort that a LDR requires, but I’m wondering how realistic it is to find someone on Hinge or other dating apps who would be open to that. I know not everyone wants a long-distance relationship, which is completely understandable, but I don’t want to spend time getting to know someone only for the distance to become a dealbreaker.

Has anyone here met their partner on Hinge or another dating app knowing from the beginning that things would be long distance? Were people generally open to it, and did it work out?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences! :)

Need Advice needing support/ advice

• Upvotes

I (26) female and bf (25) have been in a ldr for about three years, together four. We have a really solid relationship almost perfect I would say. I want to marry this man. I see a future with him I can’t see with anyone else. We’ve talked about closing the gaps MANY times but the timing never seems to fit. I have two kids (10 and 7) so I want to start seriously planning a move around May ‘27 so they could finish the school year. Hardest thing for me is moving three hours away and restructuring my kids schedule, especially with their dad. Had anyone been in a ldr with children? How did you handle things?

Need Support Has anyone experienced a partner suddenly going silent during a period of extreme work stress? What happened in the end?

• Upvotes

I’m in a relatively new, long-distance relationship of about 3 months. My boyfriend has been struggling with a very demanding job and has repeatedly told me how exhausted and overwhelmed he feels. He has also been dealing with other difficult things in his personal life.

In the weeks before this silence, he was still affectionate. He checked on me, asked whether I was eating and sleeping properly, and told me he loved and missed me. He has withdrawn for short periods before when sick or preparing for difficult work trips, but this time has been different.

It has now been nine days without a reply. We didn’t have an argument or a breakup conversation beforehand. I have sent him messages letting him know I care about him and that he doesn’t need to reply until he feels ready. I’m now trying to give him space.

Part of me thinks he may be overwhelmed and shutting down emotionally. Another part of me is afraid that he may be distancing himself from the relationship or ghosting me.

I’m trying to be understanding because I know he has real problems to deal with, but the uncertainty is affecting me emotionally, and I don’t know how long I can keep waiting without an explanation.

For those who have experienced something similar?
*Did your partner eventually return and explain what happened?
*How did you distinguish genuine overwhelm from someone gradually leaving the relationship?
*How did you take care of yourself while you didn’t know what was happening?

I’m not looking for anyone to guarantee that my partner will return. I would appreciate honest experiences, especially from people who have been through something similar. Thank you…

Question My partner of almost 5 yrs forgot my birthday. Idk how to react?

Thumbnail

27F, I am in a long distance relationship(on again off again)with a guy. We talk everyday and he just forgot my birthday didn’t call the entire day, called me up at 5 in the evening and says where were you the entire day and i was honestly shocked ( though i don’t like my birthdays and i didn’t talk to anybody the entire day but him not remembering was v disheartening). I asked him if he actually forgot what day it is today he started acting cold and weird.
Calls again in 30 min and apologised. I don’t know how to react or what to think. Though i am talking to him casually now but there is this weird feeling that keeps lingering am i this dispensable to him.
I celebrate his every small and big achievements, i am so excited on his birthdays
I don’t want to make a big deal out of it i want to let this go and give him the benefit of doubt but will that be unfair to me??
