The Best of Frederick 2025

Happy New Year, r/FrederickMD! Welcome to the yearly tradition of tracking what actually is the best of the best in the city of county. Main reason of this being a yearly tradition is that some locations or companies close and unfortunately it can become outdated. Like in years past, the idea is to submit unique submissions by commenting under a category. Please don't repeat previous submissions, but merely upvote the suggestion that you wanted to submit. If there is a category, you'd like to see submissions for a "Best of," just submit it yourself! A lot of businesses have come and gone in the past two years, and this is open to more than just food! Also, please include an address if you can (as similar names might be located in different towns, and certain locations might perform better).

• Upvotes

Several of the local races could be very close - school board, sheriff etc.

(And early in person voting starts NEXT Saturday!)

Reposted from Bickel Campaign: 17 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY: HOW TO REQUEST AND RETURN YOUR FREDERICK COUNTY MAIL-IN BALLOT

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Any registered Maryland voter can request a mail-in ballot.

You do not need an excuse and it takes less than 10 minutes.

Make your voice heard!

  1. REQUEST YOUR BALLOT

Apply online using your Maryland driver’s license or MVA-issued ID:

https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/onlinemailin...

You can also submit a signed paper application or visit the Frederick County Board of Elections:

8490 Progress Drive, Suite 300

Frederick, MD 21701

Request deadlines:

• October 27 if you want your ballot mailed to you. Your request must be received by the deadline, not simply mailed.

• October 30 if you want an emailed link to download and print your ballot. You will need a printer.

• In-person requests remain available until 8 p.m. on November 3. Check office hours before visiting.

Application and instructions:

https://www.frederickcountymd.gov/8687/Mail-in-Voting

  1. COMPLETE YOUR BALLOT

Read the instructions carefully and mark your choices with a black pen.

Sign the required voter oath on your return envelope. Do not sign the ballot itself. If you print your ballot at home, print and sign the accompanying oath and follow the envelope instructions.

  1. RETURN YOUR BALLOT

• BY MAIL: It must be postmarked on or before November 3 and received by the Board of Elections by 10 a.m. on November 13. Mail it early. Putting it in a mailbox on Election Day does not guarantee that day’s postmark.

• BY DROP BOX: Place your sealed ballot envelope in an official ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on November 3.

• BY HAND: Deliver it to the Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on November 3.

You cannot return a completed ballot online, by email or by fax.

Find Frederick County’s official drop boxes:

https://www.frederickcountymd.gov/8233/Ballot-Drop-Boxes

  1. CHECK YOUR BALLOT’S STATUS

Track your request and returned ballot:

Hey folks, I just became aware of this assault and figured it might be worth sharing for current and future patrons of Agave. Luckily, Frederick has plenty of other places to go for karaoke.

I’m Thinking About Starting a Book Festival in Frederick. Any Suggestions, Ideas, or Advice?

Hey Everyone,

I’m thinking of starting a book festival in the Frederick area. I already have an idea for the location. As for time of year, I’m tentatively thinking of sometime during the summer.

There would be bookish vendors, including local authors. Maybe some panels and/or Q&As. Book signings are another possibility. Maybe a book swap or some DIY bookish workshops? Any suggestions for more bookish activities?

I do a lot of in-person events around Maryland for my small business, so I already have a list of ideas for potential vendors. I’m not so familiar with local authors, so suggestions are welcome (even if it’s yourself, feel free to comment below).

I’d probably have to charge a vendor fee to cover space rental costs and advertising/marketing. I already have a few ideas on how to advertise, but could always use further suggestions!

I’m not sure if I should charge an attendance fee. If I did, something on the low end ($5 to $10). The location I’m considering has plenty of free parking. Another idea is to have VIP tickets, where we’d give VIPs a special gift bag and entry into the festival an hour earlier than general attendance.

This would be my first time hosting such an event, so I know I should start small and see how it goes. Really, any suggestions, ideas, or advice would be truly appreciated! I want to make something that local bookworms can all enjoy. Thank you for your help!

Frederick County Is Growing. Why Don’t We Have a Second Hospital Yet?

Frederick County desperately needs a second full-service hospital. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, our population has grown from 271,717 in 2020 to 302,883 in 2025, an increase of 11.5% in just five years.
Meanwhile, Frederick Health Hospital recorded 75,707 emergency department visits in fiscal year 2023, making it the fourth-busiest emergency department in Maryland at the time. That’s approximately 207 ER visits every single day.

We cannot continue expanding residential developments without making comparable investments in healthcare infrastructure. A county with over 300,000 residents and this level of emergency department demand deserves serious consideration of a second hospital

Places to play casual MTG

Hi! Looked at the local card shops but didn’t see any listings for this. Anyone have recommendations for where we can play casual Magic and maybe have other people join? The drafts and events are fun but we’re looking for something that is more laid back.

Any extra omnipod 5's?

Does anyone have 1 or 2 extra omnipod 5 pods they are willing to give? My insurance is being an incompetent dick and i probably wont get any until sometime next week and I would be happy to replace them once I get mine. Or I can give you some insulin if you need!

The Rays of Violet playing Saturday 10/17 at Rockwell!

Here's your chance to catch the finest Grateful Dead Tribute Band in the DMV! Right in your own backyard at Rockwell Brewery!

If you've never seen this band before, then do yourself a favor and check them out! A blend of Reggae, Rock, Blues, Funk, Country, you'll hear it all!

Alright, ROVers (we’re still focus grouping this), here’s the deal. We have TWO gigs left this year and this is the last one where you’ll be guaranteed a ticket if you want to attend.

Our last gig this year will only have ~100 tickets available, so unless you’re planning on camping out for them at Mailboxes Etc. like it’s HFStival ‘97, Rockwell will be your best shot.

We’ll be joined by the lovely and incredibly talented Dan Kehoe.

All of the parking and none of the weather watching.

GET YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE TO SAVE AT THE DOOR!

Do we still kill every Spotted Lanternfly, or is it pointless at this point?

Like we clearly lost- Spotted Lanternflies are everywhere and it's clear the government and public combined efforts are totally futile. They're part of our ecosystem now and for the foreseeable future. Eventually the ecosystem will sort it all out, but we're just going to have to wait for that to happen.

Looking for T-Shirt Blanket/Quilt Maker

EDIT: You all have given me several good leads; I greatly appreciate it. I'm not ready to get this done just yet, but I'm glad to have these resources at the ready so I can find someone I'll feel comfortable trusting with my son's shirts. ❤️

My late son loved his graphic 90s-kid t-shirts, and I'd like to have them made into a blanket or quilt.

**I know there are online companies that do this, but the thought of putting his shirts in the mail makes me uncomfortable, so please don't suggest that.**

The companies I've seen also tend to use synthetic materials for the back of the quilt, and I'd like natural fiber options, if possible.

Anyway, I'm looking for crafters/sewers in the DMV area who have done this. And no offense, but I'm not looking for someone who thinks they "can" do it. I'd like to find someone who has actually done several and can show end results. I just understandably don't want to take any chances with his shirts.

Thank you in advance.

Where to get a passable pit beef sandwich in Frederick?

Just moved to Leesburg, can't make it over to Baltimore. Pining for a mildly acceptable pit beef sandwich today.
