Recommendation Request Does Toronto actually have a legit Philly cheesesteak, or is it all just hyped steak on a bun?

Is there a single place in Toronto that actually does it right, or is the only real answer to book a flight to Philly ?

Modified Salumeria House Special. You’re welcome.

I admit, I’ve been gatekeeping… until now… I’m ready to drop some wisdom, pro bono.

I’ve been going to our beloved La Salumeria for some time now and love the House Special as it is, but one day thought “what if instead of his usual mozzarella, I asked for my favourite Delice de Bourgogne?”. Carlo was more than happy to oblige, and boom, that became my new fav, my go-to. I even sometimes ask to sub the prosciutto side with a second/different kind of salami, so double salami. The Delice might not be to everyone’s taste as it definitely introduces a bit of an earthy funk especially with some of the rind on, but if you could put up with that, the level of salty buttery creaminess it brings with it is incredible.

Absolutely elite sandwich. Try it.

Kisses.

Best Panzerotti in Toronto

Pictured: my favourite combination of fried dough, cheese and tomato. Bitondo’s, ordered “for here” with the sauce ON the panzerotto.
Who else is making a great one? Where are we ordering?

Help me find this in GTA!

Post image

I recently moved to Canada from UK and miss Pepes Piri Piri (a renowned takeaway in England) so much. I couldn’t find anything similar to this in terms of taste and looks in GTA so far. I basically miss their juicy chicken and the way they grill them. Rest everything can be found here somehow like fries etc.

EVERYONE here puts the same kind of chicken revolving on a bar in shawarma which I am not a big fan of.

Anyone who can help me find something which tastes and looks like Pepes Piri Piri (UK), I will be forever grateful lol.

No Nandos please. Something which I can afford like a local takeaway shop.

on the hunt for some butters 🧈

hellooo food toronto, sorry if this doesn't quite fit in with all the delicious bites everyone is enjoying.

I'm doing a bit of a butter intensive (self project) and I'm looking to find some speciality butters... if you have any clues or know any small shops please let a gal know! :)

  1. Smen - a north african fermented butter (I believe it's from Morocco but I be wrong)

  2. Niter kibbeh - Ethiopia: a spiced clarified butter similar to ghee but with spice (worst comes to worst I can use ghee + a spice blend)

  3. Yak butter - I've seen more yak ghee options online, curious if this is around. (to be used in a yak butter tea or coffee)

anyways thank you for entertaining my ramblings :)

Asian recommendation at Yonge & Sheppard?

I'm meeting a friend for an early dinner at Yonge & Sheppard later this week. There are just so many options that I'm a bit overwhelmed. I don't want to just pick a place that looks good and miss out on a real gem, hidden or not. Can anyone recommend a Chinese, Japanese, or Korean option? Doesn't have to be fancy or anything, though I'm not opposed to it.

Any Burmese Restaurants in Toronto?

Hi everyone! I'm making a series on YouTube where I'm trying every single country's food in Toronto. I wanted to do this not only to show off small businesses around Toronto, but also show people how diverse Toronto can be and to get out of their shell and go travel even if they can't leave the country.

Anyways, whatever, that's not the point of this post. The point of this post was to just ask if there's any Burmese restaurants in Toronto. I was doing some research and I was looking into it and there's only one, but it's closed for the next few months. As well, there used to be one called Royal Myanmar but that has since closed as well (seemed to be a COVID casualty). I really want to do this because I find the history of Myanmar quite interesting, and I would love to talk to someone directly from there and try out some food because I've never tried Burmese food.

If not, if there's anybody that's Burmese and proud of being Burmese and would love to cook me something and talk about Myanmar, that would also be fantastic (although I know it's probably a better idea to just go to a restaurant).

Thank you!!!!

I Ate A Thing Jules Bistro (Queen West)

Jules Bistro for dinner. Steak frites were cooked well and hit the spot. The bone marrow special was a bit disappointing, very little marrow. Nice ambience, wasn't overly loud, attentive and friendly service.

$60 before tips for half of bone marrow, steak frites, half of crepe dessert, and tea ($54 for my friend who had chicken). I did feel the food wasn't hot enough, not sure if it was just me. Would still go back for the steak frites, I thought it was good value at $33.

Good vegetarian friendly restaurants?

We’re trying to find a sit down restaurant with decent vegetarian options for our anniversary. Lots of places I loved have closed down over the summer. Does anyone know any places that have good vegetarian options but isn’t only veggie (my partner is a meat eater)?

Any recommendations would be super appreciated!

Hello,

My partner and I are considering making a reservation at Hawker for their tasting menu. Drawn to their veg options as one of us is vegetarian. Looking for recent experiences at the restaurant. Open to alternative suggestions as well as long as it's vegetarian friendly. Thanks!

where can i get the kraft dinner soda? :(

sorry if i'm not supposed to ask questions like this here?

idk, maybe i've just missed out or smth? i was at walmart and tried to find it there but didn't see it, saw online that apparently you can get it through instacart but when i searched on there i couldn't find it??

looking for locations i'd be likely to find it? like anywhere you've seen it recently? preferably near downtown? i wanna try it but it seems like my only option besides finding it in a store somewhere is spending $33 on a case of it from amazon which is insane.. absolutely no way i'm spending $33 on 12 cans of probably gross pop

Can you recommend one Sushi place, and one "surprise me" place?

Hi,

We will drive to Toronto from Ohio this week, we will stay at Downtown Toronto. We used to dine at Markham a lot. Our budget is 50 per person. Wife love Sushi, can you recommend one Sushi place in Toronto (not necessarily downtown). I like try world food. In my hometown, we have decent Thai, Vietnam, Chinese food, when I travel, I'd love to try something else. Last time, I visited Himalayan Kitchen which is awesome.

Thank you!

This weekend I went with my friend to have a drink and read that Ammucca on st Clair and Dufferin have a board that goes with it (not just the chips and nuts combo we usually see around).

It was delicious. It is aperitivo but it seems I had dinner. I think this is a great place to try something different for once! Not the usual Italian spot

Kibo Market’s Broccoli

hi everyone! i gen don't know where else i can ask this so im hoping this was a good subreddit to pick!

i am a pretty picky eater n dislike broccoli but the broccoli in the rose tteokbokki at kibo market is just delicious! im sure the sauce adds to it but the broccoli itself is soooo yum! it has this unique, soft, almost savory "crust" or coating on it that makes it taste amazing instead of just watery and boring!!

i need to eat more greens and i've been trying to figure out what the stuff on the broccoli is and how they prepare it as well!!

any help or guidance would be much appreciated!! thank you!!!!

Places in the city for huangmenji (braised chicken rice) besides Yang's Braised Chicken Rice and PanPan Noodle Bar / Li's Braised Chicken?

I absolutely love this dish at these two places, especially when it's incredibly spicy. Are there other places in Toronto that serve it?

Thanks in advance.
