Welcome to the Concrit Commune, where you can get bits of your fic looked at... for a small "price."
For the purposes of this thread, concrit is defined as - pointing out things that could use improvement and also giving suggestions on how to do so. Compliments are always welcome, of course but these do not count towards your concrit requirement.
The rules:
Fandom | Title | Rating | Any Applicable Content Warnings | Link - AO3, FFN, etc. at the top of the comment.Since we're all here to give and receive help from other people, a certain level of respect for the author and the work they've put into their fic is expected as a baseline courtesy and should be reciprocated.
Tearing into a fic or author without regard for their effort isn't constructive even if there is decent criticism attached. Moreover, it discourages people from participating if they know that insults await them.
You aren't expected to treat this thread like the Comment Cooperative, advice and honesty and pointing out flaws is what we're here for.
Some helpful tips to keep things running smoothly:

Hello, hi, and good morning, good evening, or whatever the fuck time it is in your country, city, or wherever you happen to be. I hope you're all doing well.
So, this humble new writer—new in the sense that I've never really done any deep historical research before, I usually just writes whatever comes into my head and figures things out along the way, as one dose.
Unfortunately, I've now reached the stage where I actually need to do proper research, and I'm struggling like hell, like legit i'm about to cry.
I don't normally struggle with research, but historical weather has officially become my nemesis. The girl hates me like i stole her boyfriend!
So, Americans, please assemble in the front seat. This ones involes you!
The location I'm researching is New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and the specific date is December 10, 1926.
I'm writing Hazbin Hotel fanfiction. The ship? I shall not disclose that information because I value my peace and do not wish to be bullied. You people can speculate amongst yourselves. 💀
Anyway, I want to know what the weather was actually like on that particular day. Was it chilly? Warm? Humid? Windy? Was there rain? Was snow even remotely possible? I'd love to find actual historical observations rather than rely on modern December averages or make things up and accidentally present them as fact.
I've tried looking through historical weather websites, including NOAA, but I'm having trouble finding complete records for that exact date.
So, fellow writers, historical researchers, weather enthusiasts, and anyone who has somehow found themselves in this incredibly specific situation:
Do you know any websites, archives, forums, old newspapers, or other resources that could help me find historical weather information for a particular date in the United States?
If you've dealt with something similar while writing a novel or fanfiction, I'd especially love to hear how you approached it.
At this point, I'll take any leads you've got. Reddit, writing forums, fanfiction communities, historical archives—anything!
Thank you in advance, and may your research be significantly less painful than mine. ❤️

More for fun than an serious question but i'm curious! Obviously, fanfiction have its own laws and tags are very different thing than printed books genres, but lets say you are librarian in fanfiction library, what would be your labels over some addictional tags?
I mostly thought about just fluff, angs, smut, maybe hurt/comfort, would you add anything in there?

Hello all! I don’t often post on here with questions, but I do have one for you all today - well, it’s more just be being curious & needing some advice with writing!
I’m wanting to push myself out of my comfort zone and A) write for a new pairing & B) write for a kink I’ve never even considered before - which is Wire Play!
So, my question is this - for those who enjoy this kink, what is it exactly that you enjoy about it? Or, rather, what do you enjoy reading? I want to try to do it some justice, as I do with most kinks I don’t delve into myself - and since it’s not very practical to any ‘on the ground’ research with it, I thought I would come here to try and gain some footing!
Any advice would be helpful, really! Even if it doesn’t align with my question :]
Thanks for taking the time to read this! 😛
Edit: I thought i would add a little extra to this about the character! Character is an android, insides are made up of wires and cogs/gears and a very big key in the back which turns, has full human functions otherwise! 🍿

Welcome to our weekly thread, Brainstorming Bureau! This is an idea we've trialled previously and, based on feedback and observation, it feels like something the sub has been crying out for, and we're hoping as the weeks go by it'll turn into a lively, community-oriented way to cap off the weekend. We'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions on how to make the best of this idea, so feel free to reach out via modmail if you have any ideas. And without further ado...
What's this about?
Do you have an issue that's too specific to your own fic to make a post about, but too small to seek out a long-term beta or writing partner for? Well, you've come to the right place!
This is where you can drop those plot points you're stuck on ("How would this scenario play out realistically? What should happen next?"), workshop your worldbuilding and concepts ("What should I name this character? What power should I give them? Which fandom would work well as a crossover with this other fandom?"), or get a second opinion on an approach to character development ("Is this a good central conflict? What would have to happen to make a character realise this?"). It's your space to talk through any issue that can't be solved through more generalised writing advice.
How to play:
To participate, comment with any aspect of your fic you've been mulling over or hitting a wall with. Other users will then respond with suggestions and questions to help you get to where you need to be. No idea is too big or too small, provided your comment fits within the parameters below. Feel free to be as fandom blind or specific as you like!
Rules:
Have fun! And remember, all suggestions are just that and are to be taken with a grain of salt; we're here to help and consider our works from angles we haven't before.

I’ve been thinking about how much the execution of a trope matters compared to the trope itself.
There are tropes I’ve seen so often that I usually scroll past them, but every now and then, someone writes one so well that it reminds me why people love it in the first place.
Maybe it’s enemies to lovers, coffee shop AUs, fix-it fics, character studies, time loops, hurt/comfort, or something else entirely.
What’s a trope you normally avoid, but a particular fic made you appreciate? You don’t have to name the fic if you’d rather avoid spoilers. I’m more interested in what the author did differently that made it work for you.
I’m curious to see how different everyone’s answers are!

I recently finished watching Dungeon Meshi and would like to read some fanfics from the series. I’m open to any kind of recommendation, but the longer the fic, the better!

There was a Radioapple fic I read a while back but I can’t find it, and I can’t remember the name of it, but I remember some details about the fic
(Alastor was tortured and SA’d by Vox
Lucifer killed The Vees
Lucifer giving Alastor a platypus plushie and him naming it Penelope
There was smut
Alastor still had the wound on his chest and Lucifer held it
Alastor getting comfier clothes due to trauma
It had exactly 14 chapters)
And that’s all I remember about the fanfic. So if anyone knows what I’m talking about please tell me
Thank you

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to get some quick thoughts on the use of character voices in podfics.
Do you prefer the narrator to use only their natural accent when narrating, distinguishing characters using pace, pitch, and tone variations OR do you prefer/want to hear different characters voiced differently with their own accents (essentially character voiced)?
How would you feel about a British accent for all characters, even if in the fic they were a different nationality?
Looking to get a feel of what works best for people.
Thanks in advance!

Y'all, I swear I've been searching for like two hours, I'm losing hope and I can hear birds outside-
It was a wonderful and short smut fic. I'm going to try to give as many details as I can remember.
I believe the sm13 had either crashed into or was somehow teleported into the Mary. Regardless, Grace rushed to find the room covered in blood. I think Rocky got locked behind some kind of automatic doors (contamination, maybe?) and Simon kind of drags Grace through a bunch of blood, Grace complains that he'd liked the shirt he was wearing, and then Simon kinda props him on the wall and kisses him. Importantly, Simon is basically silent through most of the fic. It's only when he tries to go further than kissing that Grace stops him, saying he'd let him do whatever he wanted but that he wanted to know his name first, and that's when Simon first speaks to tell him his name.
That's kind of all I remember. Please help, I'm desperate to find this golden fic again 🙏

I guess a lot of us are probably still in the thick of our -tober challenges, but is anyone doing Preptober in anticipation of November? Will you be joining one of the alternative challenges, or going it solo? Have you ever done Nano before (and do you have tips lol)? Anyone want to start a support group? We could talk plots and do sprints and body-double :)
It's been years and years since I last made an attempt. I'm having such a hard time focusing lately, I might just try to get to 1.6k/day without worrying about the novel part...

I woke up this morning to 3 emails about reviews on my long fic. One on chapter 13, on on the epilogue of the first fic, and one on the most recent chapter of the sequel fic. It made me so happy that someone loves my story enough to read through it that fast.

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask something.
So, I write stories for a small fandom. I posted a one-shot that was basically a character study. There wasn't any worldbuilding involved; it was just a moment meant to help the reader understand the character better.
Then I got a comment from someone suggesting a bunch of worldbuilding ideas that I never asked for.
Honestly, I put a lot of effort into writing the story, so getting a comment like that kind of left me feeling frustrated. I genuinely don't know if this crosses some sort of etiquette boundary or not.
Do you think this is an etiquette violation? What would you do if you came across someone like this?
