Mod Post Rule Update: Sort of. (AKA we accidentally lost a rule and only just realized it)

So to keep transparency, we recently noticed that in our attempts to streamline the rules and make them more easily readable, we accidentally dropped the part about not making follow-up posts.

That was there because we had problems with people either making posts referencing other people's posts instead of just talking to them in their post, or making a new post when their post was removed or locked for either breaking the rules or starting to draw in a lot of drama.

Thankfully you guys have been really great and haven't done anything to make us notice that the rule was lost!
But there will always be some people who will see that a specific rule isn't there and try to argue that they should be allowed to continue a post after it's been locked or removed... So we put it back as it's own rule!

We also added a note about direct links to other subs. This was already something we had set up in automations! We ask that some subs not be directly linked to to avoid both digital self-harm of users (when linking to transphobic, transmed, or 4trans subs) or accusations of brigading.
Unfortunately there are some people who think that even mentioning a subreddit that has been harmful and telling people "Do not go there, it is not safe for people like us" is.... actually saying "go there and harass people" because apparently do not = do and it's not safe = be annoying????

And of course, not only will the user possibly get attacked, vilified, harassed, or reported, but it will end up in our modmail and we will be accused of "encouraging brigading" and they will threaten our entire subreddit. How do we know this will happen? Because it has before.
Thankfully the subreddit is fine, but modteam doesn't want to deal with that again, so we have to be weirdly strict about this, because some people are weird about it!

Finally, just a quick reminder that mod applications are open! We will likely be looking for more mods to add to the team to help avoid mod burnout, so if you are interested, please feel free to apply! You can find the link to the application in the sidebar and in the pinned posts at the top.

Recurring Friendship Megathread

THIS POST IS FOR TRANS MEN/MASCS ONLY!

GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST HERE. PLEASE RESPECT OUR SPACES.

Failure to do so may result in a ban from the sub.

If you're looking to make new friends, here's a great place to start!
Do not include any advertisements to social media or other content type platforms! This is not the purpose of this thread!

Just post a bit about yourself and maybe take a look around to see if anyone else has similar interests!
Or, if you're not good at coming up with things to talk about, here's some questions you can answer:

What do you like to be called?
How old are you?
What country do you live in?
What are some hobbies you have?
List some favorite movies, TV shows, games, or other things:
What do you do for work?
Do you have any cultural or religious ties that are important to you?
Do you have any pets?
What's an interesting fact about you?
What are your transition goals?
Where are you in your transition?

Obviously you don't have to answer everything, but it might be able to guide you in the right direction if you struggle with coming up with facts about yourself on the fly.

Nothing wrong with wanting to be stealth.

Its not transphobic to be stealth.

It's not transphobic, to not tell other trans guy that ur trans.

Thats it ,simple as that.

Yes this still happens in our own community.

Discussion Im so envious of cis men.

Every time I look at a cis dude, I find myself starring for too long because he has things that I want. A masculine jaw, face, frame, muscles, he's tall, how he doesn't have to do anything special, he just exists and he is masculine. Cis dudes don't realize how lucky they are, just in general cis people are lucky. They don't have to deal with this mentally destroying dysphoria. I hate the fact I wasn't born a man. How I will never TRULY have what a man has. He is born with a flat chest, with male genitals, while I have to go thru multiple surgery for something that won't even look like the real thing and has tons of risks. I hate it I hate it I hate it. I am so jealous of every cis man that i see down the street. knowing I would literally do anything to be a cis man. Like ok im not helping my case, but I keep looking at pictures of dudes, their chest, their genitals, its not even in a sexual way. Just how I know ill never experience that, ill never experience what they experience since the day they were born. I get to a point that I genuinenly CANT think of it or else I start feeling sick. Sick with the fact im stuck like this forever and THIS is my life forever. I always imagine what I could of been if I was born a cis dude, how I would of been taller, better looking, better frame, no child bearing hips. but OF COURSE the only life I live is the one where I am trans and I will forever yearn to be a cis man.

anyways, this is my "rant" thanks for reading

Relationships Just a dumb goofy story

So my fiancée and I both have adhd, she is very under stimulated and bc of this, sometimes the intrusive thoughts win and she will occasionally smack usually my thigh (not hard, and she has permission as I don’t really care and she’ll apologize profusely if she accidentally does anything harder than intended). She went to hit my thigh but did not aim for the correct area and instead went to my groin and laughs really hard while she goes “did I just nut tap you?” And I go “It was like a roll for damage but you rolled a 1” and she proceeded to state that “it’s like when you try to damage someone in a multiplayer game but the ping is so bad that it hasn’t reached them yet. You’re just like, whoops don’t have one of those yet please check back later”. I love her so much, she’s funny.

Discussion Who is the first person (or people) who knew you were trans?

And how did that happen? How did they react? How did you feel about them knowing?

For me, my close friends during highschool are the only people who knew. I got tired of hiding it and just blurted it out on a Facebook post one day. I'm glad they were accepting

Discussion knowing i fully pass as a man but being misgendered due to having longer hair is such a weird experience because its really not making me dysphoric at all ?!?

my reaction is probably similar to how cis guys feel when they're mistaken for a girl for having long hair. i just kind of laugh about it and move on, especially because the people doing it always realise im a guy 0.5 seconds after properly looking at me & get embarrassed about it. my cis male friends w longer hair have had the same misgendering before & they definitely look male. has anyone else experienced this type of feeling before?

Discussion Sydney Transmasc Group

https://www.facebook.com/share/g/18aaJth6tY/

Hey! I made a post yesterday in the transgenderau subreddit about how there was a social group that my mum swore up and down was here - turns out it shutdown during COVID, and so I figured I may as well make a new one. If you're transmasc, can get to Western Sydney and interested in all things tabletop, or just wanna meet new people, then please join! Hopefully, once we have more members than just myself, we can start organising things.

Just trying to spread this around as much as I can. If you've got transmasc friends in Sydney, please share this to them!

Advice Needed I feel invalid

I spent a lot of my life, and transition thus far being praised by family and friends that they are glad I’m one of the “normal” trans folk.
I’ve been on testosterone 8 years, and had top surgery 5 years ago ish. I’m 27.

I’ve dressed pretty masculine. I work a labor job. I’m passing everywhere.

But..

Lately I’ve experimented a lot with women’s clothes, makeup, even shaving my legs. I love thrifted finds, and putting together cute outfits. I wear earrings.
I have no interest in fully “cross dressing”, but I genuinely have enjoyed more feminine things and I’m finally letting myself just.. be.

But I have this haunting feeling in the background that I’m invalidating my own transition.
I feel like I’m going to be seen differently by family, or friends, or anyone.. really.

I’m so happy to finally be expressing myself, but I didn’t know if other trans men experienced this, and gender normatives are burned into my brain. I can’t help but feel insecure that I’m not normal.

Any advice/shared experiences help.

Thanks, guys!

Advice Needed Need to hear experiences to confirm something.

Hey dudes, I need your help figuring out something. I need to know if what I am feeling is gender euphoria and if y'all have had similar feelings to mine.

^ Even before I knew what being trans was, whenever I would be mistaken for a boy, I'd have a fluttering sensation fill up in my chest and get an uncontrollable smile on my face to the point where my cheeks hurt.

^ Whenever I need to wear a dress or a skirt for an event, it gets uncomfortable after a while; not physically, but it feels like my body is telling me this isn't right.

^ When I was little, I hated having long hair; it was so miserable that I cut it down really short myself when I was seven (and hid it under a hat for a week before I was discovered) it felt so good like it was just so right. The first thing I did when I got the chance to decide what to do with my own hair when I was older was to burr it, and I haven't changed it since.

These are just a few things I can think of right now; I just wanted to know if any of y'all had the same experience as me. This could just be me overthinking again or something else, but I genuinely think I might be FTM.

Advice Needed How can I feel better or more manly during straight sex? NSFW

I don't know if there is even a solution to this problem, but without having a penis, I don't feel manly during sex. I've tried wearing a strap on or packers, but they just make me feel even worse bc there is no sensation and they never stay in place...

My gf is the first woman I've been with, and before I was always bottoming for men. Which felt good in some ways and bad in others. It definitely didn't make me feel manly, but being more effeminate and gay somehow felt better than being an underperforming straight guy?

Is there some solution to this that I just don't know about? Some way to just enjoy it and not feel bad? Some trick to prevent the dysphoria long term? I can get into it for a short while, maybe 20% of the time, but the dysphoria hit afterwards is brutal and ruins my week.

Advice Needed Are any other passing ftms getting accidentally misgendered by people once they find out you're trans?

A girl kept calling me a she once she found out i'm ftm and like, shes a friendly and trans supportive person and every time she said she she would correct herself or stumble over her words a bit. Im just so confused because like I legit have facial hair and i'm a natural tenor, how do u accidentally call me she, especially only after you've found out i'm trans? This isn't the first occasion either, it's happened in voice chats before even. I just don't know what to say because I know some of these people arent transphobic or doing it on purpose so im wondering if anyone knows why or if it also happens to them?

Advice Needed I struggle so much with injections

Today was only the 3rd time I self-injected testosterone, and its getting worse every time

The first time I did it with a friend's help. He's been on T for a few years. It didnt hurt a bit and I was fine afterwards.

The second time I was alone and so scared I could not get the needle through my skin, so I asked my mother for help. She did it but she was incredibly rude and judgemental, and It hurt and I got so dizzy afterwards I had to lay down.

Today I was dreading it so much, which sucks because I was initially so excited to finally do self-injections.

I facetimed my friend and he guided me, but it was horrible. Everything I did hurt and I got dizzy so many times I actually passed out for a bit.

At the end I didn't inject anything and just took the needle out.

Its so incredibly frustrating. I have done self injections before with eparin, and I never hurt or felt dizzy, though those were on my belly and T is on my leg.

And I should go to the doctor to ask for help but there's no open spots until next month.

Fuck, im just so frustrated and scared. I get in a spiral thinking im going to do something wrong and hurt myself irreparably. And it feels like I cant do anything right now to fix this. I've never felt so useless before.

Discussion what cologne/fragrances are y'all wearing?

a lot of men's fragrances have a bit of that axe body spray stank to them. I liked vanilla noir from bath and body works but it still kind of smells like that and i want something nicer anyway. Last time I tried to go shopping for cologne the salesperson started on about "this scent is very feminine for a cologne, ive had a lot of women like it! ... and men, too" when I looked uncomfortable. so i don't really want to repeat that experience.

so what are y'all wearing? and especially for non-passing/clocky guys, where do you buy cologne? at this point I might just order some sample packs online to avoid the sales interactions.

Medical Gel> injections?

Hey guys- I’m going to start T in a few month and Im hearing gel may not be as affective as injections? Anyone tried both and can elaborate on the differences? I know the patch is skin:skin transferable and potentially dangerous for animals (planned to go under my shirt to keep my cat safe)

Advice Needed Is it normal to feel a spike of anxiety when it’s right there?

I just got my prescription today, the plan is to do my first injection tonight. Is it normal to have sudden nerves about if this is the right thing? I’ve not doubted I wanted HRT in at least five years, but I just got hit with a sudden rush of “What if I don’t like my voice anymore?” “What if my skin changing bothers me?” “What if I hate having to do these injections forever?” Like never before.

Advice Needed Is there something wrong with me??

I've been on testosterone for over 5 years now. I started T at 18. Haven't had a period since, got top surgery and full hysto. Still don't pass most days. Voice is fine. Oral minoxidil for a YEAR and NOTHING on my face to show for it, just regular hair growth. My T levels always came back ranging from 900-1000 so we lowered my dose, .2ml weekly now, it started at 3.5, went to 2.5, now we're here. My face is masculinized slightly, same with body though it looks pretty feminine still. I have great bottom growth but literally nothing else, and all my brothers who have been on T this long (and my brothers who haven't been in it nearly as long as me) seem far better off than I am. I genuinely don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Advice Needed How can I help my nephew with getting on T?

I (22afab) identify as genderfluid and I have been open about it for multiple years. My 13 year old nephew has always been close to be because of this and how we can relate and bond about it. He has recently expressed that he wants to ask his mother to go on testosterone but the thing is he and his mom and siblings live in alberta and if you didnt know, is known for being very anti-transgender. The specific law I am speaking of here is the one not allowing kids under 16 to get gender affirming care. I really want to help him because I know how bad he needs this because of dysphoria and mental health. What should I do in this situation?

Discussion getting called a similar but less masculine name at work

so my name is tyler (not an uncommon name, at least not where i live) and it feels like i am constantly getting called taylor, especially by coworkers and strangers. i know taylor isn’t necessarily a “girl’s name” but it seems like people are just looking at me and reaching for the nearest less masculine name, if that makes sense. it happens at cafes too, or really anywhere i have to give my name. does this happen to anyone else? am i reading too much into this?

Discussion Anyone else feel like you are genuinely the wrong height?

I'm honestly not sure if this is even solely a FTM related thing though I am FTM, so I'm curious if other people experience this, but my entire life I have felt really stumpy and uncoordinated and like I'm something bigger stuffed into a smaller body and it feels claustrophobic and awkward and very easily gets overstimulating and frustrating. When I was younger and complained about this, people just told me it was because I was growing or because I was overweight, but now that I'm done growing at 5'2" and a healthy weight, I still feel like this. It's not like "I wish I was taller" but like "I am Tall software running on Short hardware and it's causing errors" lol

Then I had a magical and kinda negatively-life changing experience at my job, we work with a lot of wooden pallets so it's not uncommon for them to be scattered all over the floor. I was walking around on a row of them and realized after a few steps that I suddenly felt so NORMAL. Like, I was actually eye-level with everyone, I felt perfectly coordinated with the world around me, and my own arms and body, everything felt so correct, moving around felt effortless and even though obviously my body and proportions hadn't changed, that extra 4-5 inches was amazing. But then I got back off the row of pallets and suddenly everything feels cramped and off again, the world feels out of reach, I feel uncoordinated and weird and like I don't fit, it feels really dramatic to describe it that way but I don't know how else to describe it lol. It filled me with this intense discomfort and shame that this is really how tall I am, this is how people see me, people are always looking down on me, I have to climb things to reach them and I just look so RIDICULOUS. Now I can't go on the pallets anymore because it gives me that euphoria and I can't handle the reminder that I am a short fuck lmao

Surgery Talk Top surgery questions for those who have done double incision and nipple grafts

• Upvotes

After 5 years on T and 3 waiting for a surgery consult, I finally got my first consult this week! My surgeon said he thinks double incision would work great for my current chest contouring and should be easy to do. He also said it shouldn’t be an issue to modify the areolae to look more masculine and move the nipples to a more masculine location on the chest. That being said, I do have a few questions for those who have gone this route.

  1. Have you gotten any feeling back in your nipples over time? My surgeon did refer to them as aesthetic as I’m guessing to not get my hopes up. I know it’s not common to regain sensation at all, let alone full sensation. I’m just curious what it’s actually been like for you guys

  2. How bad is the recovery for the nipple grafts? I’d assume that area is a lot more tender when healing and probably hurts worse initially

  3. What should I prepare? Types of shirts that would be best? Certain pillow styles? Drinks/foods that may help with inflammation, etc.

  4. How long did it take you to be able to move around on your own? Washing your body, hair, dressing, etc.

  5. What was the post-surgical situation? Did they have you stay overnight?

Add anything else you think I should know. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this but also that it’s come so fast. He said I probably won’t get an actual surgery date for another 8-12 months minimum, but I want to be prepared. TIA
