Discussion 📣 r/dance is looking for 1–2 new moderators! 💃🕺

Hey dancers!

As our community continues to grow and evolve, I’d love to bring 1–2 additional people onto the moderation team who are genuinely excited about dance and want to help make r/dance an active, encouraging, and welcoming space for dancers around the world.

I’m especially looking for moderators who can be present in the community regularly — engaging with members, answering questions when you can, helping keep conversations positive, and making sure posts are being moderated fairly and efficiently.

That can include:

• Engaging with posts and helping keep the community active

• Welcoming and encouraging dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels

• Reviewing posts that may have been automatically removed or flagged

• Making sure appropriate posts don’t get stuck in the moderation queue

• Helping enforce subreddit rules and keeping spam/inappropriate content out

• Helping us think of new ways to increase participation, conversation, and overall community morale

You absolutely do NOT have to be a professional dancer to apply. I’m much more interested in finding people who care about dance, understand online communities, communicate well, and genuinely want to help make r/dance a great place to be.

If you’re interested, please send me a private message with:

  1. A little about yourself and your connection to dance

  2. Any Reddit or community moderation experience you have (if any — experience is helpful, but not necessarily required!)

  3. Why you’d like to become a moderator of r/dance

  4. How frequently you’re typically active on Reddit

I’d love to build a small team of people who are excited about bringing more energy, conversation, support, and connection into this community.

If that sounds like you, send me a message! ❤️

Let’s keep r/dance moving. 💃🏽🕺🏽

Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Skilled Making a dance video til I’m Skinny Day 78….

Sunday Funday!!!

I sincerely hope everybody had a fantastic weekend… I’ve got four shifts left and then I’m free for a week. I can’t wait!!!!

I will weigh myself tomorrow morning. I have a feeling this has been a good week. We shall see tomorrow but I’m quite happy with the progress so far.

Just to reiterate my routine, I am doing a 1500 to 1700 cal intake every day. I’m going to the gym six days a week and 30 minutes of dancing 30 minutes of weight training.

As of last Sunday, I’m down 60 pounds to a total weight of 260.4 and I’ve halfway to my goal of 200… Still a long road ahead, but the progress and the time has been quicker than anticipated so it’s very fulfilling

I hope everybody has a wonderful Sunday. Get some rest , put your feet up vibes at at all time high. I’m off to bed as I’m on Night Shift still… Until next time my friends!! 😎

Much Love ,
Bob.E.Bland ❤️❤️

Amateur How would you improve the below pointers WITHOUT the boring drills?

• Upvotes

I uploaded a recording of me dancing a full choreo to an AI chatbot and it gave me this below advice. However, I don't want to break up my dance practice sessions into these because it takes away the fun.

I have been learning for about 10 months now starting from absolute zero, and now, I am drilling with Just Dance (it's a dancing game where we imitate the coach on the screen and get a score for how well each move is repeated and at the end, get a final score). I also do 15 mins of isolation drills from Youtube before each session.

From AI: What I would specifically train next

Here is the order I would use, based on the weaknesses visible in this recording.

Priority 1 — Exact poses and arm lines

Highest priority

Reproduce the intended shapes rather than merely matching their general direction. Pay attention to the elbows, wrists, shoulders, torso, and head.

Priority 2 — Supporting foot and weight transfer

Make sure the legs support the upper-body movements. In particular, pay attention to how the weight is organized during diagonal leans and directional changes.

Priority 3 — Head, torso, and arm coordination

Learn which component initiates each gesture and how the remaining body parts complete it. Avoid moving the head, torso, and arms as if they were unrelated tasks.

Priority 4 — Musical accents and dynamics

Make important accents more distinct, while allowing sustained gestures and transitions to remain smooth.

Priority 5 — Video review

Record a short section, compare it with the reference, and choose one specific correction for the next take. Do not rely only on how the movement feels while performing it.

Discussion Thoughts on MOVE IT convention (uk)

• Upvotes

Hi guys, I'm considering attending move it next year (probs for only 1 day) but am having serious doubts about whether I'm good enough to go, I'd go just by myself cause I don't go to a dance studio that does those events and I don't really have dance friends. I'm not that good of a dancer but I DO want to have it as my profession one day hopefully, which is often embarrassing to say cause well I kinda suck and have not been doing it that long lol. That being said I think going to something like move it would be very beneficial and fun and I know there's no specific requirements to go but I'm wondering if the environment is really toxic/competitive and if it's only worth while going if you're at an intermediate/advanced level and with other people? I went to CYD the one year and although I enjoyed some of the classes I ultimately just felt embarrassed as everyone was like 100x better than me. Any tips or advice or just any info on your experience at move it would be helpful

Discussion Trying to get that spark back!! Any dance style reccamendations?:D

Hello hello! Greetings, ✨fellow dancers and dance lovers! ✨ I am on a journey to learn a bit of every dance style possible! 🕺🕺I would love to get some suggestions and reccamendations of styles that would be fun to learn! 😆✨🎉 im open to anything!! I just cant spend any money on any props or shoes though 😅

Some info about me, since i am planning on getting more active on here, just a mini rant on me tho if u are interested:
I have always loved dance since i dicovered its sparkle. Im self taught haha, built off of “eh this feels right!” And youtube videos. ✨ i still got a long way to go, but i am so excited for the journey. Dance was a way i felt free, no matter how uncontrollable everything in life was, i had control of movement—- of expression through my body, that was my escape. Then i started to struggle with mental health, dpdr episodes kicked in, panic attacks, all that.. and i lost it. Dance no longer felt the same anymore.. so I had to take time. A lot of time.. but, i am on the road to recovery! And, i want to bring dance back into that road with me. As i grow mentally, so will my dance skills and variety!! :D

Thank you so much dear reader!! I hope you have a wonderous dayyaayayyayay!! 😆😆🎉🎉✨✨❤️❤️

Critique Request Feedback for 7 rings choreography

Hello. I am a beginner at dancing and I like to learn choreographies by practicing at my local gym and watching dance choreography videos on youtube. I’ve recently been practicing the Mina Myoung choreography for 7 Rings: https://youtu.be/WfwV8vkIXvI?is=p5Wm7uzsOvJdW7NT. Any feedback, especially on movement cleanliness and detail would be really appreciated. Thank you so much!

What Is This? Welcher Tanzstil passt zu „Easy On Me" von DJ Rivera?

Hey Leute,

ich (w, 28) höre gerade „Easy On Me" von DJ Rivera (Single, 17. März, Genre: Dance) und frage mich, welcher Tanzstil dazu passen würde.

Ich suche keine offizielle Choreografie, sondern nur eine Einschätzung - - denke gerade einfach an einen Paartanz

Falls jemand das Lied kennt (BPM, Beat, Vocal-Stil), wäre ich für eine kurze Einschätzung dankbar.

Danke, danke, danke!

Skilled Tips for learning choreo?

Hi dancers! I Just found this sub and I'm excited to tap in!

I feel like I'm on the right track in terms of most elements of my practice, but something that's really holding me back is learning choreography quickly. I've tried out for a couple of professional teams and I feel like I can be a concise, energetic, and personality-filled dancer but its hard to show that because I take 2x as long to learn audition choreo than everyone else :') Even taking regular choreo classes at a studio, I find myself running into the same thing. When studios have a 2nd day of the same choreo from last week I'm usually able to come back and do the dance justice but that first time is hard to watch... Please help me! What are your tips? What's going on in your head that helps you learn faster?

Discussion How to deal with competition disappointment?

I 26F am a latino dancer (bachata and salsa). I’ve only started 3 years ago but I consider myself in the pro category since I was at a global competition with a group and participated in international competitions. I can’t say I’ve had good results, I didn’t even get first half at the international ones.
Today I had a local bachata competition, quite small and the level was low. We danced in pairs and I got third place. I got so disappointed I couldn’t even stay there any longer, I went home crying. I know it sounds stupid but going from international competitions to not even winning at a local, non-professional one is just so embarrassing.
I don’t know if I am just not talented enough or just need to train more. I have times when I stop training due to depression/anxiety and because of some personal issues happening in the dance scene.
But even when I am putting in the effort consistently it still seems like it’s not enough. I wanted to make a career out of it and teach but it seems so difficult for me. I have more than 10 years experience dancing other styles and yet my bf comes with just 2 years of dancing, no background whatsoever and wins 1st place every single time. I am happy for him but this was also my dream once and it feels so easy for others. He also cheated in the dance scene and made it very difficult for me to continue to be part of this community or train.
Should I just give up? It seems like a never ending process that gets me nowhere. I don’t think I will ever be at the level that I want and I can’t stop being disappointed with myself.

Amateur Recomendations for dance workouts for newbie?

I'm getting back into working out and want to find some dance style workouts where they teach you the moves and end with you dancing the song. Not sure if anyone knows any good YouTubers who have multiple of those kinds of videos. Preferable pop/jazz/ up beat music.

I have pretty much no dancing experience, was never good at it. Ive played music all my life but don't have any body rhythm so preferable something on the simpler side. I have been looking at Thefitnessmarshal on YouTube and it's along the line of what I can handle if anyone knows anything similar. Thanks
