Not in a long while. I've never been a subscriber, and only pick up a physical copy every now and again. My hometown paper looks more like a newsletter these days.

Im 45, single & childless, but I had a dream a few months ago about a girl who looked 9 -10 years old crying because she wanted to be adopted. I then hugged her. Suddenly I woke up.

I have two daughters (best thing in my life), but I was never excited about having children till I had my first.

I remember that despite not feeling any maternal instinct before becoming a mom, I had 3 or 4 dreams where I had a baby, and man… every time I woke up I felt so empty without that child and wanted to be a mom. The effect of those dreams faded fast, but it’s funny because when I finally had my first baby, I felt just like in those dreams 😍

I hope it becomes real for you one day. Meanwhile, enjoy the your precious youth and freedom

Oof. That sucks, but it's a funny story!

Nah. My hometown newspaper began printing the same boring stories, several days in a row, and then outsourced the whole thing elsewhere. People back home complain about poor print quality, missing papers, and it generally not being worth the cost.

What do you mean that they create money out of thin air? I’m familiar with a process in lending commonly known as creating money, but it has nothing to do with thin air.

I find it happens more as you get older but matters less. Does that make sense? I find 100 things I did or wished I hadn't done and make an audible groan and shiver... but then I laugh. Who cares. It's in the past. I'm actually not embarrassed about anything from my youth. I smile because it happened - how was I to know any better at the time. That's the joy of life, aging and wisdom. I take some satisfaction that the exact same cringe experience has been felt by people for millennia and beyond.

Yes, and yes. Both of my parents, but now that my dad's gone, especially my mom. She and I were not super close from the time I was a teen until after my dad passed away. (Not estranged; I was Daddy's Girl and would call to talk to him most of the time).

I ask a lot of questions when we're together, and sometimes she asks them of me. She's Silent Generation, I'm Gen X, so we have some very different viewpoints, but her childhood and family was SO different from mine (and my dad's - we discuss him and his family from time to time) that her perspective is eye-opening at times.

  1. I have 3 older siblings and they all made sure I believed as long as possible as it meant they received extra gifts too. I actually approached my mother to ask as my classmates were talking amongst themselves about their parents being Santa. My mother was quite good at explaining Saint Nicholas and the spirit of Christmas.

Write it down! There's a possibility it has some truth in it.

I was blown away recently when I bumped into a dream I had written down, which I had totally forgotten. Since then I try to remind myself to take note of odd dreams.

Dream: my former black cat fell twice out of a plane, I jumped after him 🤷‍♀️ second time he couldn't walk anymore. I brought him to a B&B called Vincent van gogh and in the B&B my black cat changed into a ginger one.

Back story: When my black cat died he had a blood cloth and couldn't walk anymore. Some weeks before he couldn't use a paw and veterinary insisted he got run over (although I was saying it was very unlikely). The issue went away so we thought it was okay but it was actually an alarm signal. (Hence the first fall which he survived and the second fall from the plane after which he couldn't walk anymore).

I had him for 13y and didn't want another pet anymore. I cried so much for that cat. I'm certainly not a person who gets another pet immediately after the death of one. So... 3 weeks after, we had snow for a week and I noticed cat paws at the back door. As I felt sorry for the stray cat searching for food, I gave it the food I had left from my black cat. This lovely ginger cat is now with me for 2,5y. Plus, she's a mix but looks like a Norwegian forest cat, which I always wanted!! Apparently she ran away from the neighbour's 2 houses further, who kept her indoors. She may roam free now but always stays with me. She is só cute!

Edit: mainly grammar

So your father was first generation American per your grandfathers encouragement? I ask because my family is primarily second generation American (all my great grandparents were immigrants from Austria and one Ireland in the 1920/30’s)
It has been so interesting to me to dig into the experience of those predecessors of mine. I totally understand seeking the why. More so in the current political climate. Being surprised by older generations is a beautiful thing - so much perspective.
Waxing philosophical I find their enthusiasm so beautiful. I wish our current global political climate was equally inspiring. But it is SO important to draw from the experience of our predecessors. My grandmother (Irish side) is 97 this year. She was adopted into her father’s new family after her mother died giving birth to her back in 1929. He was able to start his own business which is still in the family (a mortuary haha). There is so much opportunity here (in the US) or there was I guess…. We’re getting harsh on people coming to pursue their dreams- or even just safety. I hope we can remember. As a second generation American that opportunity is what made my family of over 50 cousins successful teachers; doctors, nurses lawyers and one FBI agent.

Stop hating and start seeing. Thank you for your post sending my thoughts into such a big heart space.

It's the little things in life. You're in your home. Your safe space. Not to be crass but you're naked, happy, warm, you can indulge yourself. Showering at the gym or whatever doesn't feel the same. There's something about ending your day at home. Your favorite place to be in the whole world.... It matters.

I still love me a wall street journal or nytimes.  I still grab them for flights and always end up lending the read section to those around me.

Depends on where you are. Some still decorate; and I live across the ocean where Halloween is an obvious import yet the pumpkin and leaf motifs caught on for some reason.

I was also thinking about fostering or adopting children. Some people have those qualities about themselves that others would really benefit from.
