Help (GPU) I’m underwhelmed or under educated.

Post image
87 Upvotes

I’ve had my 9070xt for about 2 months now. I bought it after my 4060 killed itself during a driver update, I went with a fresh install of windows and installed the gpu along with drivers and software. I’ve been underwhelmed so far, I run into constant glitches, crashes, and I can’t run my computer in safe mode any longer(I believe unrelated as I know I can switch with deep dive into bios settings). So my question is, is this the AMD trope, am I poorly utilizing the software settings? Happy to be pointed in any direction that could lead to a positive experience.

I play SoT, The finals, Rocket League, and various FPS/car games, I run 1440p and 4k depending on the games age.

Agains thanks for any insight provided.

Help (GPU) Is my 9070XT faulty or driver issues?

For context, card is almost a month old. I’ve played a few heavy 4K titles on it since then with no probs
- MGS Delta
- 007 First Light
- KCD 2
- Cyberpunk

Issue seems to be happening on several games
- Control Resonant
- Ready or not
- Occasionally on random, less demanding games

The issue happening with above games is that when i launch them, the GPU appears to completely stop giving display output. The system is also unresponsive to any input unless i force shutdown

Current Setup:
- Sapphire 9070XT OC
- Ryzen 9700x
- 32GB DDR5 CL36 Memory (EXPO is off)
- 850W psu from thermaltake
- GPU is running two seperate PCIe cables instead of a daisy chained config

What I’ve already tried
- Cleaning with DDU and reinstalling latest stable
- Updating to optional 26.9.2 driver (using DDU beforehand)
- Disabling HAGS
- Disabling MPO
- Undervolting ( i think i tried both -50 and -80mV )
- Underclocking
- Downgrading to a 25.x driver

Help (General) Games feel like 30–40 FPS despite 100–200+ FPS — everything becomes smooth when I Alt-Tab or press the Windows key (RX 7700 XT)

I’ve been dealing with this issue for a while now, and I’ve tried a lot of different fixes without solving it. I’m starting to suspect something related to frame presentation, Windows, or AMD drivers, but I can’t figure out what’s actually causing it.
PC specs:
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT (12 GB VRAM)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M D3HP AX
RAM: 32 GB (2×16 GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 CL30
Monitor: Gigabyte G25F2A, 1920×1080, 240 Hz, connected via HDMI
SSD: Kingston NV3 1 TB NVMe
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 750W V3 Bronze
OS: Windows 11 25H2
AMD driver: Adrenalin 26.7.1
The problem:
Games feel incredibly choppy, almost like 30–40 FPS, even when the FPS counter shows 100–200+ FPS. The movement doesn’t feel smooth despite the high FPS, and it feels like something is wrong with how frames are being displayed.
The weirdest part is that pressing the Windows key or Alt-Tabbing out of a game makes things feel much smoother. The desktop itself is smooth at 240 Hz, and sometimes an unfocused game feels significantly smoother than when it’s focused. When I return to the game, the choppiness comes back.
The frame-time graph looks relatively clean, so the visual stuttering doesn’t seem to correspond to obvious frame-time spikes.
This affects multiple games, including Garry’s Mod and Bodycam. Bodycam is particularly noticeable.
In Bodycam, I typically get around 70 FPS with the GPU at approximately 98% utilization and VRAM usage around 7.5/12 GB. I’m using FSR, V-Sync is off, and the FPS cap is set to 120. Lowering the cap made the image look more pixelated and didn’t solve the problem.
Things I’ve already tried:
Used DDU in Safe Mode to completely remove the AMD drivers, then reinstalled the AMD driver and restarted.
Tried different refresh rates: 240 Hz, 120 Hz, and 60 Hz. The issue persisted; 120 Hz was actually worse than 240 Hz.
Tested FreeSync on/off. No meaningful improvement. Adrenalin reports FreeSync as unsupported, and FreeSync is disabled in the monitor’s OSD.
Tested V-Sync settings. V-Sync ON seemed to improve smoothness somewhat, but didn’t completely fix the issue. Turning it off brings back the problem.
Changed FPS limits and tested different caps.
Tested fullscreen and borderless/windowed modes. Results have been inconsistent, and I haven’t found a reliable solution.
Tried disabling Windows fullscreen optimizations.
Tried disabling Multiplane Overlay (MPO) through the registry using OverlayTestMode=5. No improvement.
Checked PCIe Link State Power Management; it was already set to Off.
Reinstalled AMD drivers and checked the display refresh rate afterward. Windows had switched to 59 Hz following the reinstall, so I manually set it back to 240 Hz. This didn’t fix the issue.
Other details:
Windows desktop feels smooth at 240 Hz.
The monitor is running at 1920×1080 and 240 Hz.
The issue isn’t limited to one game.
FPS counters don’t seem to reflect how smooth the games actually feel.
I haven’t found a consistent fix despite trying driver reinstalls and various display settings.
At this point, I’m wondering whether this could be a Windows 11 DWM/compositor issue, AMD driver frame-pacing or presentation problem, a fullscreen/VRR interaction, or something else entirely.
Has anyone experienced something similar, especially with an RX 7000-series GPU? What should I test next? I’d appreciate suggestions that can help narrow down the actual cause rather than just another generic driver reinstall.

Help (General) W11 amd driver crash

Windows 11 updates are making my computer unusable; they conflict with my graphics card driver and make it difficult to boot, eventually preventing it from booting at all. Windows gets stuck in an endless loop on the boot wheel and won't start. I stopped Windows Update and it worked fine then. How can I fix this problem? Will I never be able to use AMD again?

RYZEN 7 9800X3D , 9070XT INSANE STUTTER LAG

Hello everyone a newbie here .

A few days ago, I suddenly started experiencing extreme stuttering and lag spikes in EA FC 27 and PUBG, respectively.

My PC specs are:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • GPU: Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 7200MHz
  • Motherboard: A budget B650 motherboard
  • Monitor: 165Hz (not sure if this is relevant)

Everything was running smoothly until one day, when, out of nowhere, both games started stuttering like crazy. Ever since then, I haven't been able to find a solution.

I've tried multiple driver versions, checked my BIOS settings and RAM speeds, restarted my PC countless times, and even reset Windows. I've also experimented with countless combinations of in-game settings and AMD Adrenalin settings, but nothing has worked.

The only weird thing I've noticed is that AMD Adrenalin was reporting my CPU temperature at 85°C, while every third-party monitoring program showed a lower temperature. However, even when the PC is completely cool, I still experience the same stuttering.

I've also tried a bunch of tweaks and fixes I found on Reddit, all to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or what else I should try? I'm honestly at the point where I'm ready to throw this PC in the trash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Help (General) FPS suddenly dropped by half in all games, but benchmark scores are fine? (9800X3D + 9070 XT)

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: RX 9070 XT

CPU: RYZEN 7 9800X3D

Motherboard: (tutaj wpisz swoją płyte, np. MSI B650 / Gigabyte X670)

RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz

PSU: 1000W

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11

GPU Drivers: AMD Adrenalin (latest)

Description of Original Problem:

Hey guys,

Running into a really weird issue and kinda running out of ideas.

What happened:

I was playing Gothic Remake when my FPS suddenly plummeted down to literally 3 FPS. I restarted the game, but now it's stuck at around 35-40 FPS in areas where I used to get 100+ FPS.

It's not just Gothic either — all my games took a huge hit:

CS2: Barely hovering around ~120 FPS now

Crimson Desert: ~40 FPS

The weird part:

Synthetic benchmarks (FurMark) are still giving me normal expected scores. It’s ONLY actual games that are running like garbage. Temperatures look totally fine, so it doesn't seem like thermal throttling.

What I’ve already done:

Used DDU in Safe Mode and reinstalled fresh GPU drivers

Did a completely clean reinstall of Windows 11

Still no luck. Could this be some weird PCIe lane stuck in x1/x4 mode, a power state bug, or something with Adrenalin settings?

Any ideas on what else I should check or test? Appreciate any help!

EDIT: If anyone needs screenshot logs or sensor readings from HWiNFO, GPU-Z, or CapFrameX while running a game, let me know and I'll upload them!

Help (Software) Is Linux a better option?

Before anyone starts with the “enjoy not being able to play half of your games” schtick, I don’t fucking care. I’ll buy another SSD in a few months to boot Windows onto later on. Right now, I just want to play games for more than an hour without a driver timeout. Considering this is because windows is absolute dogwater and they keep overwriting AMD drivers; am I going to experience stability on linux? Im looking for people who actually run Linux to answer, or someone who dabbles in both. At my wits end here and I’m just looking to find a solution that isn’t a $1600 Nvidia GPU. I’ve already did the registry edits, I’ve done a million different driver versions under the sun, I’ve cleared shaders, updates BiOS, turned down the frequency, the whole 9 yards and it still times out. I’m just tired, and I want to enjoy the money I worked very hard for on my PC.

Help (GPU) Black screen install amd drivers

Post image

Help (General) Am I dumb my auto undervolt resets?

I have 3 different computer and I've owned multiple AMD cards at this point and no matter what the AMD auto undervolt/prefer performance keeps resetting to custom. I've gone back and forth with claude to fix it and tried a few of the simple fixes but why is this even a thing at this point. I don't do anything crazy, my only setting I have right now that might affect it is I have it so it turns off the monitor automatically instead of sleep after 10 minutes. I get it maybe happening on one computer but this happens on all of them. My Nvidia computer doesn't do it at all. Heck my computer sometimes freezes with the monitor off and I have to straight up reboot.

Rant over, reddit, tell me I'm wrong I'm doing something dumb and it's actually just a simple fix. I won't take just leave the computer running constantly with the screen on as an answer.

Also I should not have to touch registry edit, turn off fast boot or turn off free sync in order to fix it.

Help (General) Pc fails to wake up after sleep

It never happened on my last pc, but since upgrading my pc cant wake up from sleep and i get the vga light and the only fix is to restart.
Specifications:
cpu: ryzen 7 7800x3d

gpu: rx 7800xt (had it before the upgrade with no issues)

mobo: aorus x870 ice

ram: 32gb 6000mhz ddr5 ram

psu: 1000w trusted and good psu

Pc works absollutly normal and has no issues with restarts and turning on. Gpu connected to psu with 2 independent power cables and not daisy chained ones. I tried resitting the gpu, changing cables, upgrading bios version, different drivers (with DDU) with no help. Before the upgrade i used sleep mode a lot and now its kinda anoying to turn off the pc every single time i go to sleep or wake up. Any advice/solution?

Tips & Info AMD FreeSync flickering in Chrome / PokerStars Spin & Go at high refresh rate — disabling Windows MPO fixed it

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 16GB

CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K

Motherboard: Unknown / not relevant to the issue

RAM: 32GB

Operating System & Version: Windows 10 Pro

Monitor: 34" ultrawide, 3440x1440, 165Hz, Adaptive Sync / FreeSync, connected via DisplayPort

GPU Drivers: AMD Adrenalin, current driver at the time of troubleshooting

Description of Original Problem:

After connecting a 3440x1440 165Hz FreeSync monitor, I started getting strange screen flickering.

It first happened specifically in the PokerStars Spin & Go lobby. Part of the upper screen would flash/flicker with a dark red or burgundy colour.

Later I noticed similar flickering in Google Chrome.

The problem strongly depended on refresh rate:

- 120Hz: no flickering
- Around 140Hz: flickering was less frequent and affected a smaller area
- 165Hz: flickering was much more noticeable

Disabling Adaptive Sync / FreeSync on the monitor stopped the flickering completely.

Disabling hardware acceleration in Chrome also stopped the flickering.

Troubleshooting:

I tried the following:

- Different refresh rates
- Disabling FreeSync for PokerStars in AMD Adrenalin
- Disabling Adaptive Sync on the monitor
- Clearing PokerStars application and lobby cache
- Disabling hardware acceleration inside PokerStars
- Disabling WebView2 GPU acceleration for PokerStars
- Testing PokerStars at 60Hz, 120Hz, 140Hz and 165Hz

The monitor and DisplayPort connection worked normally at 165Hz when Adaptive Sync was disabled.

The fix that finally worked was disabling Windows Multi-Plane Overlay (MPO).

How I disabled MPO:

1. Press Win + R

2. Type:

regedit

3. Press Enter.

4. In Registry Editor go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm

5. Click the Dwm folder.

6. Right-click an empty area in the right-hand pane.

7. Select:

New > DWORD (32-bit) Value

8. Name it:

OverlayTestMode

9. Double-click OverlayTestMode.

10. Set Value data to:

5

I left Base set to Hexadecimal.

11. Click OK.

12. Restart Windows.

Result:

After the restart, the flickering disappeared completely.

I can now use:

3440x1440
165Hz
FreeSync / Adaptive Sync enabled
Chrome hardware acceleration enabled

without any flickering.

How to undo the change:

Go back to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm

Delete:

OverlayTestMode

Then restart Windows.

Conclusion:

In my case the monitor, GPU and DisplayPort cable were apparently fine.

The issue seems to have been a compatibility problem involving Windows MPO, AMD graphics, hardware-accelerated applications and FreeSync / VRR.

Obviously this may not fix every flickering issue, and editing the Registry should be done carefully, but if your symptoms are similar it may be worth testing.

Help (Software) PSA/bug: Radeon users with Steam crashing at launch since Oct 13 — it’s GameManager64.dll (AMD) recursing into Steam

Describe your issue:
Since the Oct 13 Steam client update, steam.exe crashes instantly at launch (Event Viewer: Application Error, ntdll.dll, c0000005). Traced from a crash dump to AMD’s GameManager64.dll (Radeon driver’s game-detection hook) going into runaway recursion during Steam’s startup and blowing the stack. Posting because other Radeon users are likely hitting it and blaming Steam.

System specs:
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K / GPU: Radeon RX 7900 XT (XFX) / OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations 25H2 (26200.9711) / Steam client 11.12.30.7

Troubleshooting already done:
Verified/reinstalled Steam, cleared cache — no effect. Reproduced on two driver versions (26.7.1 and 26.8.1). Only triggers when another GameManager64-hooked app is active during Steam startup (Razer software and the EVE Online launcher both do it). Removing the AMD driver entirely stops the crash. Interim fix is launch order (Steam fully up before those apps). Reported to AMD and Valve.

Asking: anyone else seeing this on a Radeon card? If quitting Razer/iCUE/a launcher lets Steam start, it’s probably this.

Help (General) Can't find a fix for Marvel Rivals crashes

I can't figure out what's causing the crashes in Marvel Rivals. Reinstalling my graphics drivers fixes the issue for a few gaming sessions, but then the crashes start happening again. I experience both game crashes with an Unreal Engine Crash message and full system crashes.

When a BSOD occurs, the error is KERNEL_MODE_HEAP_CORRUPTION (0x13A, Arg1: 0x17). When the game itself crashes, I get an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error, which is also related to invalid memory access.

I don't know whether these two types of crashes share the same root cause or how exactly the graphics driver is involved. What confuses me the most is why reinstalling the driver fixes the issue for a few sessions, only for the crashes to return even though I haven't changed any settings.

So far, I've tried:

  • Clean reinstalling AMD graphics drivers using AMD Cleanup Utility.
  • Testing different AMD driver versions
  • Completely reinstalling Marvel Rivals.
  • Verifying the integrity of game files through Steam.
  • Enabling and disabling HAGS (Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling).
  • Clearing the shader cache.
  • Disabling the integrated GPU (iGPU).
  • Updating my motherboard's BIOS.
  • Running Windows Memory Diagnostic to check my RAM.
  • Repairing Windows system files using SFC and DISM.
  • Uninstalling Gigabyte Control Center and its related components.

None of these solutions have permanently fixed the issue.

Interestingly, I don't experience these problems in any other game. My PC works perfectly fine otherwise, and the crashes happen exclusively when playing Marvel Rivals.

PC Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
  • GPU: Radeon RX 9600 XT 16 GB
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR5 6000 MHz CL30
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX
  • PSU: MSI MAG A750GL 750 W

GPU Drivers: AMD Adrenaline Edition 26.8.1 WHQL

Chipset Drivers: Intel Chipset Drivers 10.1.19459.8383

Background Applications: -

Description of Original Problem: I recently had to return my RX6600 on warranty and got a RX7600 as a replacement, but can't get it to work in my machine.

Whenever the GPU is plugged in and the system is set to UEFI, it never gets to POST or even lets me enter the BIOS. With the GPU plugged in and the system set to CSM, it boots fine using integrated graphics and the GPU is detected, but marked as faulty in the device manager.

Troubleshooting:

What I've tried to far (in no particular order):

  • Tested the GPU in another (much older) machine, where it worked OOTB.
  • Tested the old system's Nvidia GPU on my machine, which worked OOTB.
  • Cleared CMOS with the RX7600 installed
  • Tried different HDMI and DP ports on the GPU
  • Updated the BIOS to two different versions, first the most recent and then a slightly older one
  • Run the AMD Remover Tool x2 and reinstalled drivers, I am getting the PA-300 error every time and have attempted this fix (manually) without result
  • Run DDU in safe mode as adviced and reinstalled drivers, same result as above
  • Changed the 4G-setting in BIOS
  • Changed safe boot settings in BIOS
  • Changed PCIe settings between auto and 3rd/4th
