Modding Modify and load custom VBIOS on Windows and Linux, on Blackwell 2.0 (RTX 50 Series)/Ada(RTX 40 Series)/Ampere (RTX 30 Series) without flashing (and which cards were tested)

Hello guys, hoping you're doing fine.

Today I want to share something that may affect your cards (?

I have released 3 tools:

  1. A way to modify VBIOSes, so you can increase power limit, voltage, NVVDD offsets, MSVDD offsets (Blackwell 2.0), OCPs, fan channels, power per fan, core offsets more than 1000, VRAM offsets more than 3000, lower power limits (below 400W on a RTX 5090), lower clocks, etc. But as you know, these can't be flashed directly on the cards because falcon, right?
  2. A custom VBIOS loader on Windows, that patches the registry file related to that GPU, it resets it and it's applied on every reboot. This does not change the real VBIOS on your card, but it just loads a copy via a patch and it let you use any modification!
  3. A custom VBIOS loader on Fedora, that patches the GSP firmware start on memory, builds a separate boot entry and then rebuilds automatically with kernel updates. This does not change the real VBIOS either.

What are the requirements?

  • Windows:
    • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
    • NVIDIA driver 616.56 or newer (status shows the version).
    • A payload file for that exact GPU model (same PCI device ID).
  • Linux:
    • A working NVIDIA 615.x driver or newer with the open kernel modules; nvidia-smi must list your GPUs.
    • The unpatched source of the open kernel modules for the exact installed version, for example: git clone --depth 1 --branch 615.78.08 https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules
    • Python 3.11 or newer, the headers for the running kernel (kernel-devel on Fedora), make, dracut, grub2-editenv and mokutil. With DNF5, also libdnf5-plugin-actions.
    • GRUB with GRUB_DEFAULT=saved and GRUB_ENABLE_BLSCFG=true (Fedora's defaults).
    • Secure Boot off, or your own module signing key: pass --signing-key and --signing-certificate to prepare.

You need to first get a copy of your VBIOS, you can do it with GPU-Z on Windows, or with nvflash on Linux.

Note that you can't modify EVERYTHING for the VBIOS, since it's still on research of what can be modified, what not and which rails are exposed. Also for example, VRAM timings can be modified (not on these tools) but they aren't applied, since the card reads it physically from the flash hardware.

So, some example pics!

First, some VBIOS editor example, for a RTX 5090 VBIOS, a RTX 4090 VBIOS, and a RTX 3090 VBIOS.

RTX 5090 VBIOS Edit
RTX 4090 VBIOS Edit
RTX 3090 VBIOS Edit

Then, the VBIOS loader on Windows looks like this:

VBIOS loader, I have 4 gpus in this system

Then you can choose a VBIOS, for example I will select a 671W VBIOS for the 4090.

Choosing .bin file (for Ada and Ampere), for Blackwell you have to use the .rom file.
Then if you see an OK on the left, you can press Load
You get this warning, of something goes bad read the instructions, or DDU.

And press OK/Accept, and a quick GPU restart after (no windows reboot), it works!

Results, on Spanish UI (only English and Spanish for now)

And it works just fine!

PS C:\Users\User> nvidia-smi -i 0 -pl 671

Power limit for GPU 00000000:05:00.0 was set to 671.00 W from 550.00 W.

All done.

On the other hand for Linux, the UI looks very similar, and steps are similar, but you can also guide yourself on the github repo!

You can edit the values you modified on MSI Afterburner, mvolt+ (recommended) on Windows. On Linux you can use LACT.

Tested GPUs that I own, and it works:

  • RTX 6000 PRO MaxQ: Unlocked voltage (stock 0.9V) to 1.1V, power from 325W to 600W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +6000Mhz (it depends of your luck), and some OCPs.
  • RTX 5090: PL from 600W to 800W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +6000Mhz.
  • RTX 5080: PL from 360W to 500W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +6000Mhz.
  • RTX 5070Ti: PL up to 450W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +6000Mhz.
  • RTX 4000 PRO SFF: PL from 70W to 105W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +7000Mhz, unlocked voltage from 0.85V to 1.1V.
  • RTX 5070: PL from 250 to 350W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +6000Mhz.
  • RTX 5060Ti: PL from 185W to 300W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +6000Mhz.
  • RTX 4090: PL up to 700W, core offset to be able to do +2000Mhz, VRAM to be able up to +6000Mhz.
  • RTX 2000 Ada: PL from 70W to 105W, unlocked voltage up to 1.1V.
  • RTX A2000 (Ampere): PL from 70W to 105W, unlocked voltage up to 1.1V.

Tested GPUs that I don't own, by other users:

  • RTX 6000 PRO Workstation Edition
  • RTX 5090
  • RTX 5080 Laptop
  • RTX 4070
  • RTX 3060

For now, I can't seem to be able to edit Ada laptop variants (RTX 40 laptop series). Laptop Blackwell series (RTX 50 laptop series) can edit some parts of the VBIOS, but not all of them. Laptop Ampere series (RTX 30 laptop series) can edit almost everything.

And finally, the links are:

VBIOS Editor (Linux and Windows): https://github.com/Panchovix/nvidia-vbios-vix-editor

Custom VBIOS loader (Windows): https://github.com/Panchovix/nvidia-windows-vbios-vix-loader

Custom VBIOS loader (Linux): https://github.com/Panchovix/nvidia-linux-vbios-vix-loader

Everything is open source, so you can check the code to see if there are applicable fixes and such.

So if you guys can try, please let me know! If you find crashes on the vbios editor, or a specific GPU has info you can't edit and may be feasible to do so, you can raise an issue on github and I will check it out.

Warning: You use these software entirely at your own risk. Any modification you make with it, anything derived from it or from its output, and any damage that results, is solely your responsibility.

Benchmark Score 4080 Super MVolt+

Post image
6 Upvotes

I just found out about mVolt+ and decided to spend an hour testing it out on my i7 14700K+4080 Super system to some really good results and the top score in Speed Way for this config. CPU is stock and RAM is 6400CL30.

I bumped up the wattage from 320 to 375 and it used about 360W for this run. Temps with 100% fan speed stayed under 62C on the stock PNY VERTO OC cooler in a hot Southern California room with an ambient temp of 85F, so I'm excited to see better scores once Winter comes around.

DONT COPY MY SETTINGS BLINDLY. DONT BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE.

Settings: +255 core, +1400 mem , +300 XBAR, 1.1V up from 1.075, and I capped clock range at a max of 3000MHz so it wouldn't randomly spike and cause a crash during the run since I saw clocks wouldn't go over 2940MHz anyway.

Super(pun intended) cool tool and a nice way to get some free performance. From my 7,484 stock score to 8,361 is an 11.72% increase. I plan to do some more testing beyond the hour I had and then dial back the watts and voltage for everyday gaming.

Let me know if you have any tips or tricks!

Looking for Guide Afterburner vs. MVolt vs. NV-UV Play: is there one definitive “best” in 2026? Is it GPu dependent?

• Upvotes

I’m sure, like most here, w have been Afterburner folks for 10+ years. However, everywhere I go in 2026 (Reddit/discord/youtube) it seems mVOLT (and to a lesser extent the newer NVUV Play) are offering something totally new to OC/UV folks.

I have a 5090FE that I want to protect more than my wife given one seeming is exponentially harder to replace than the other these days.

With that said, what is “the way” these days to get those most out of this 5090FE will holding under 0.95v and under 500w of power?

Guide - Text For all RTX 4000-5000 series users, just use Mvolt instead of Afterburner

Tried both on 5070ti and 4080 super, they both perform faster, even at lower core clocks on mvolt than afterburner preset due to XBAR overclock.

------------------------------------------------------------

4080 super

Mvolt
+180 on xbar, +1000 memory, +120 on core clocks at 975mv flattened above, reported clocks are 2760 in games and CP77 benchmark is 119 fps. 220-240W power usage

Afterburner
+150 on core clock, +1000 memory, 975mv flattened above, 2820mhz, 112 fps CP77 benchmark, 220-240W

------------------------------------------------------------
5070ti

Mvolt
+300 core clocks, +3000 memory, +320 Xbar, 975mv flattened above, 2970mhz CP77 139 FPS, 240-260W power consumption

Afterburner
+360 clocks, +3000 memory, 975mv flattened above, 3090mhz, CP77 131 FPS, 240-260W power consumption.

-------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see even at lower clocks Mvolt just performs faster because of XBAR clocks even with undervolt.

I see no point of using msi afterburner anymore.

GUIDE: Plain and Simple Intel ARC B500 Series Undervolting - Method by Lame

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi again,

I made a guide on undervolting Intel Arc B-Series cards. You can save some watts and get higher, more stable 1% lows and 0.1% lows. It's very simple and doesn't require any extra software.
You should give it a try and see for yourself. Intel changed a few things in their software, so guides that are a few months old are outdated, and I hope there won't be any major changes forcing me to re-do this once again. The methodology should also help you understand overclocking.

Take a look. If you have any questions I'll try to help you:

Frame spiking

PC Problems

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this, but I'm running out of ideas and could really use some help diagnosing a strange issue.

System specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-13900KS (delidded/relidded)
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Apex
  • BIOS: Latest version
  • Settings: Intel Default Performance Profile, XMP I enabled, no manual overclocking

Background

A few months ago, I was having CPU temperature issues, so I sent my 13900KS to be delidded and relidded. The temperature issues were resolved, but when I got the CPU back, I noticed that the M.2 slot closest to the CPU was no longer working.

I continued using the system without that slot for several months, and everything seemed fine.

How the problems started

1. First Q-Code 00 / Red CPU LED

Last week, I bought a PCIe-to-NVMe adapter to reconnect the SSD I could no longer use in the motherboard's M.2 slot.

The PC worked fine for a few days. I then left it unused for two days, and when I came back, it wouldn't boot.

The motherboard displayed Q-Code 00 with the red CPU LED illuminated.

I started removing components one by one until only the CPU and RAM remained installed. At that point, the system booted again.

2. Same issue a few days later

A few days later, the exact same thing happened: Q-Code 00 and red CPU LED.

This time, removing components didn't help. I eventually took the PC to a repair shop, where they somehow managed to get it running again, but couldn't identify the actual cause.

One important detail: they tested the motherboard with a different CPU, and the previously nonfunctional M.2 slot worked normally.

This makes me suspect that something is wrong with my 13900KS, possibly related to PCIe lanes or damage during the delid/relid process.

I also tested the system with a different PSU while it was refusing to boot, but that made no difference.

3. Unexpected shutdown

Two days ago, the PC suddenly shut down while running.

Windows Event Viewer showed a Kernel-Power Event ID 41. This happened only once, and I haven't experienced any other unexpected shutdowns.

4. Another boot failure this morning

This morning, the PC wouldn't power on properly again.

Initially, the motherboard appeared completely dead. Looked like it had no power.

After clearing CMOS, it went back to the familiar Q-Code 00 and red CPU LED.

I removed the graphics card, and surprisingly, the system started booting again.

I reinstalled the GPU, and now everything is working normally, as if nothing happened.

What I've tried / confirmed

  • Updated to the latest BIOS.
  • Using Intel Default Performance Profile.
  • XMP I enabled, but no manual CPU overclocking.
  • Tested with a different PSU — same issue.
  • Removed components to troubleshoot — sometimes restores booting.
  • Cleared CMOS — changes the behavior but doesn't permanently fix it.
  • Repair shop tested another CPU — the previously broken M.2 slot worked.
  • CPU temperatures have been fine since the delid/relid.

My questions

At this point, I'm strongly suspecting that the CPU has developed some kind of intermittent hardware fault, especially considering that the M.2 slot stopped working immediately after the delid/relid and works with another CPU.

However, I don't understand why removing and reinstalling components like the GPU sometimes allows the system to boot normally again.

Is there any way to diagnose a potentially failing CPU while the system is actually running?

Are there specific tests, tools, BIOS settings, or hardware monitoring methods that could help identify issues with the CPU's PCIe controller, memory controller, or other components?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have any clue what I'm doing

But my write bandwidth is quite low in comparison to the others

I tried to copy some other overclocker's timings from internet but I think I can't get it any lower

TDRWR_sg is capped at 36 if I try lowering it

Like I saw in some other intel overclocking to something like 10 my read and copy bandwidth gets destroyed to half

VDD and VDDQ = 1.440

VDD2 = 1.30

Vccsa = 1.20

Planning to UV + OC my RTX 4060 Ventus 2X in a small case. Are 925mV @ 2650MHz + +1000MHz Memory good target values for daily 24/7 gaming?

Hey guys,

So I'm running an MSI RTX 4060 Ventus 2X in a pretty cramped case with bad airflow. Right now it’s hitting 80°C with fans roaring at 100%, which is driving me insane.

I haven't touched Afterburner yet, but I want to do a daily undervolt + slight OC to drop the temps and maybe squeeze out a few extra frames.

I was thinking of aiming for 925mV at 2650MHz on the core, and maybe +1000MHz on the memory.

Does this sound reasonable for an AD107 chip for 24/7 gaming, or am I being too optimistic? Should I start with different numbers? Also curious if +1000 on GDDR6 is fine long-term for this Ventus model or if I should stick to +800.

Would love to hear what settings you guys are running on your 4060s! Thanks.

Help Request - GPU Is mVolt better than MSI Afterburner for undervolting?

Hi everyone,
I’m considering switching from MSI Afterburner to Mvolt for undervolting my RTX 4080 Super.
I mainly use the voltage curve editor and I’d like to know if mVolt is a better alternative to Afterburner, especially regarding stability and compatibility with RTX 4000 series GPU.

The reason I’m considering switching is that I’ve been having a frustrating issue with Afterburner.
My undervolt profile is set to 2655 MHz at 950 mV, but after every Windows boot, Afterburner lowers the frequency below my saved value, so I have to manually reapply the profile.

I’ve already tried launching Afterburner through Windows Task Scheduler with a delayed startup, but the issue persists.

Is mVolt reliable and stable on RTX 4000 series GPUs, particularly the 4080 Super?

Is its curve editor better or more consistent than Afterburner?

Does mVolt have similar issues with undervolt profiles changing after reboot?

Would you recommend switching, or sticking with Afterburner?
Thanks

Help Request - RAM Corsair Vengeance Pro + Ripjaws V, can I reach 3600?

Hey folks,

I recently got a 32 GB kit of Ripjaws V (F4-3600C18D-32GVW) for a good price and decided to try and pair it with my old 16 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro kit (CMW16GX4M2D3600C18). They boot normally at 2133 together, but can't run at any overclocked speed.

They are both CL18-22-22-42 1.35V, so I thought it would be doable to get them to 3600 together. I tried auto XMP profiles, manually setting voltage (1.35, 1.38, 1.4) and timings, manually setting FCLK, but none of these settings even manage to boot. They successfully go to 3600 separately, so doesn't seem to be a malfunction.

Is there anything else I can do to try and get it to work, or is it simply impossible?

Specs:

MB - MSI B550-A Pro

CPU - Ryzen 7 5700X3D

PSU - Seasonic Focus GX 1000

OC Report - GPU 5070Ti Stock, 800mv undervolt, Max OC comparison

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

Max power draw at stock was 290w, aroud 2797mhz clock at 1.02v - 6685 score

Power draw with undervolt was around 199w, 2610mhz clock at 0.8mv - 7133 score

Power draw with max oc was 330w, around 3225 core clock at 1.02v - 8190 score

Haven't touched on increasing power limits or voltage just set, but the efficiency and noise profile of the 800mv sounds great, been running it for a while and haven't had any issues yet. Thermals are a bit restricted due to SFF case, but I'm happy with these results nonetheless.

Help Request - CPU Please help achieve maximum CPU performance on i9 13900HX

I’m at a state just like Tony Stark from Iron Man 2 where he tried “ absolutely everything “ but little does he know that there’s just one more thing. That’s the thing I’m looking for.

I’ve tried many many many combinations of settings in ThrottleStop but I just can’t find the perfect one.

There’s a utility called OmenMon since l have a HP Omen 17 with RTX 4090. Played around bunch of settings but still can’t find the perfect one.

I’m absolutely hopeless at this point, will just wait for the absolute “perfect” comment on here

I have a suspicion this post will get absolutely downvoted but we are all human in nature after all

Help Request - CPU Is it normal to overshoot the power limit on a 14900K?

Current settings (Asus) :
Intel Extreme Profile 253/253/400A
LLC 5
SVID Behavior Typical
Global Core SVID Voltage -0.080
IA VR Voltage Limit 1400

I’ve been rewatching old videos of reviewers testing the 14900K with the Intel limits and I’ve noticed them easily hitting the 253W limit consistently like a hard wall. I’ve noticed on mine that it frequently overshoots to 260-280W during a Cinebench R23 run. Is this normal behavior? Or is this a consequence of a crappier VRM than those used by the reviewers? Cheers!
