Discussion Why didn’t the monsters in The Witcher destroy civilization?

Post image
310 Upvotes

This question has always puzzled me. There aren’t that many witchers — specifically, elite monsters — relative to the total number of demons. For some reason, the Fiend hides in the forest (from whom?). Yet it could have come to a village or a city and killed everyone. For some reason, the drowners don’t attack coastal villages in packs. And the ghouls don’t raid cities. It would be much more realistic if there were far more witchers. For example, each city had several witchers who protected the city and the surrounding villages from monsters.

Witcher - PC Question/Support Weird blur-thing-like frame

Hi!

Recently I did finally play some Witcher 3 remastered but I mostly spend time in options trying to find the best setting. No matter what I do (ultra, RT + PT, DLSS etc.) I can't get rid of this weird framing.

Since I'm not pro in game settings I can't find reliable way to remove this. On video I use ultra + x16 antyaliasing (I think that's how it is called). Any ideas?

Yes, I did record with my phone. Why? Have no idea.

Discussion The class distinction in the Witcher

Post image
384 Upvotes

How do you think the class structure works in the Continent? If you were to classify each person in the Continent per class, where would they rank?

Well, mine would be (from highest to lowest);

1- The Emperor and the ruling house of Nilfgaard; the Emperor has absolute authority over his lands and can dictate his laws over his territory.

2- The Northern Kingdoms and royals; they have significant amount of authority over their kingdoms and can create or shape laws at will.

3- Mages; they manipulate rulers and shape kingdoms.

4- Nobility; Dukes, earls and barons obey to their king but are the highest authority within their domain.

5- Priests and the Church; the Hierarch practically rules Novigrad and can command punishments, executions and excommunications at will.

6- Merchants; some merchants hold immense power and wealth that can rival of nobles and royals. They control the trade and shipping routes.

7- Witchers; even though they're frowned upon; they're needed when a creature is near a city or a kingdom and they get paid.

8- Peasants; unfortunately, they suffer while kings and nobles declare war, sow in the fields, fight in battles, etc.

Discussion What's your least favorite Witcher's contract across the entire series ? There's mine

Post image

It was a Dogcatcher of Vizima contract given by a gravedigger of Vizima in chap II-III from Witcher 1 to me.

Killing innocent non-hostile dogs around the town was too much to me when i've played it as a kid tbh. I would have not that much problem with it if those dogs were agressive and dangerous for citizens or smt but you have to attack them by yourself and they're not even fightning back only moans and try to fly away, truly horrible experience.

Witcher shall be slaying monsters no dogs in my opinion, used to always avoid doing it, both gold and xp were not worth that

Discussion Could we see Queen Meve in the new trilogy?

Given Ciri is the next protagonist, I'm thinking there's a chance Meve could appear in person at some point (as opposed to just having a few references). My reasoning:

  1. Blood and Wine indicates she rules Lyria and Rivia in some capacity no matter the outcome of the Third Northern War.
  2. Thronebreaker puts her age at about 40, meaning even if the next trilogy is set as far as 15 years after Blood and Wine, she could easily still be an active ruler.
  3. She's a distant relative of Ciri's via Calanthe and is likely to give a genuine shit about her if she knows she's alive. And in the books the last glimpse we get of Meve is her having suspicions about Ciri's official fate.
  4. Unlike Geralt, Ciri has no reason to avoid her specifically. I don't want to see her in W4 as I prefer lower stakes, but as things ramp up over time, friends in high places could be useful.
  5. It would be a shame to never visit Rivia in a main Witcher game.
  6. There are parallels with Ciri in that they're both swordwielding royal women who have seen the ugliness of the real world and don't bother with a pretense of neutrality, but Meve came up through the system and did the whole marry-and-have-sons thing, while Ciri rejected that. It would be interesting to see those perspectives clash.
  7. It's one of the few remaining ties to book politics that could be implemented without character fatigue from Geralt's games. Yes, Meve has her own game, but it's niche. If handled right this won't feel like obvious fanservice.
  8. There's no Thronebreaker outcome that has to be addressed in the coming games, though I think if anything, CDPR will decide if Villem became heir or not. If Meve does directly appear, then maaaaybe they'll also decide if Reynard Odo survived and got with her. That's it. I have my personal preferences but IMO there are no Reason of State-level endings which are in actively bad taste.

Thoughts? Would anyone else like to see her again, and in what circumstances?

Is this a new quest or something, I don't remember playing it when I first played the game back in 2019, did I miss it??

Regardless, what an absolute masterpiece of a side quest, got better writing and pacing than most games main stories.

The Witcher 3 Witcher 3 Remastered Replaying As Spellblade

Replayed this game several times over the last decade and the remaster gave me the excuse to do it all over again. Having a lot of fun with a spellblade build although I remember way back when Active Shield used to heal and Swallow wasn't worthless in 1 vs 1.

Now signs hit much harder if you build smart. I had unlocked entanglement right before 'Wandering in the Dark' which left me at level 10 with enough points for 2 points in melt armor (temporary) and maxed Resonance, Sustained Glyphs, and Shockwave with a point in both focus and razor focus.

At that level I still needed to unlock 2 skill slots and one mutagen slot which all unlocked at lvl 17 or 18 to slot the 1 pt in OP catalyst and max Acquired Tolerance (I'll play recklessly enough that I'll need Ekimmara or Ekhidna for heals).

The new trees and point system make chasing down places of power early more rewarding than they've ever been. A big shocker for me was upgrading my Griffin gear and not losing the slots I added or enchantments. It's interesting that they nerfed Griffin School techniques so bad that I feel better off not bothering with it, instead going Wolf school at lvl 40.

Even at lvl 8 or 9 the alder folk boots are too good to toss and the nerfs to crit chance without battle frenzy (plan to snag that at lvl 60) make me feel better about using those with the assassin gloves for quite a while. With signs being as good as they are, unless I cave and go with Euphoria, I'm betting I'll need battle frenzy and crippling strikes to not make me feel like swinging my swords is a dps loss with me using Griffin Gear.

Either way it's nice to do enough damage with signs at low level that I'm not missing conserving my stamina for Whirl or Rend. Eventually I might test Element of Surprise with Conductors of Magic, if I can fit it in that is. Both it and Wolf School techniques should double dip with Conductors of Magic and both seem like they'd give better returns than Elemental Attunement.

Doing that with GM Griffin gear, the basic rotation would be drop Yrden turret before combat, spell, different spell (chain reaction), bomb, three fast attacks (repeat along with dodges, rolls, repositioning). Sounds fun and Witcher like to me.

Discussion Think there's any chance of meeting Borch Three Jackdaws or Saskia in Songs of the Past?

It would be pretty neat to meet one of the dragons once in Witcher 3. I understand Saskia is dealing with the aftermath of The Witcher 2 and may not reappear, but Borch?

Discussion The influence and power of merchants in the Witcher

Post image
108 Upvotes

I'm not talking about the games, but the book lore of the Witcher. So, in our history, merchants practically ran cities and many merchant dynasties held immense power that rivaled or surpassed royal families and noble houses. For example, House of Medici (a banking dynasty in Italy) had produced Popes and Queens.

In the Continent, how much influence, wealth and power do merchants have compared to the of Northern Kingdoms or Nilfgaardian Empire? Is it likely some kings or Emperor Emhyr were dependent on these banking or merchant families during times of war?

Would these merchant families become rich by selling furs, goods, or jewelry or did they just sell money for money (for example bringing coins of Kovir to Novigrad and selling them)?
