WELLY Wellington family shaken after pedestrian breaks windscreen of car with them inside
A Wellington family has been left shaken after a pedestrian threw an object at their car while they were travelling through Mount Victoria Tunnel tunnel.
She said her mother was visiting from out of town, and she had honked the car's horn in the tunnel for her kids - as driver's often do.
Looks like someone found how loud car horns are for pedestrians in the tunnel. This was bound to happen someday.

POLITICS What are your predictions for who wins the Wellington electorates?
Including Kapiti and Wairarapa for that Greater Wellington representation.
Purely off vibes, I'm thinking:
Wellington Bays: Green hold
Wellington North: Green hold
Hutt South: Labour gain
Remutaka: Labour hold
Wairarapa: National hold
Kenepuru: Labour hold
Kapiti: National hold

COMMUTE Filthy busses :(
I feel like the buses have gotten increasingly more dirty this year for some reason. I usually travel on the Number 2 and Number 18 routes from Karori and it seems like every other bus is just dirty af. Do they not clean these anymore-?
This is bus 5720 operated by Kinetic (and is a part of the first batch of CRRC electric buses).
Images of just the last few rows as the front of the bus is quite crowded.

HOUSING Wadestown - What’s it like?
I’m about to move to Wadestown from the Hutt. I’ll be closer to work which is a bonus, but not too sure about anything else…
Folks that live in Wadestown - where do you go grocery shopping, what’s your go to takeaway shop, which gym do you go to and what’s your favourite thing about living in Wadestown?
I heard there are lovely tracks around so looking forward to exploring over summer! Any hiking/walking recs would also be appreciated.

WELLY Quick update on the neurodivergent Wellington/Hutt meetup group (+ working on grant funding)
Hello Wellington!
Posted here a few weeks ago about our Wellington/Hutt meetup group for neurodivergent folk, just dropping a super casual update for anyone who missed it or wants to jump in.
Our meetups are and always will be completely free, but we’re currently working behind the scenes on organizing some bigger group-based activities and getting grant funding sorted to help back those.
If you're keen to come along to a meetup or just stay in the loop, you can find us here: Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1042753234785520/ Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/neuro-inspire-wellington-autism-adhd-community/?succes=groupSetup
Cheers! Ollie - Founder NeuroInspire NZ
PS: If you have any information on grant providers accepting application in this current period please do DM! The more applications we can get out the better the chances of hosting events throughout wellington region making it accessible for everyone!

EVENTS Jazz gig guide for Wellington?
I really enjoyed the jazz festival!
I discovered Dave Wilson has been doing improv at Cuba St Tavern every month this year. I would have gone to those if I knew. I follow Under The Radar but they didn't have it.
I would like to be informed of things like this.
Under the Radar is okay but they only list things they receive info about. So there's a lot missing.
Does anyone know a good way to keep in touch with upcoming Jazz gigs in Wellington? Besides checking a specific venue's info?

SELLING Would you buy any of these and for how much?
My mum is nervous to take the leap and start her own baking business. She bakes fully vegan plus vegan + gf and I personally think the decorating is to a reasonably high standard considering she has no formal training.
They are always absolutely delicious (people without dietary requirements have often been astonished to find out they have no dairy or egg). Photos are also not great quality so even better in person.

JOBS Is looking for a 2nd job worth it when you already full time working Monday-Friday
I’m currently working full time (Mon-Fri 9-5) and interested in taking on a second job during my two days off on the weekend, but I’m struggling to understand how people make this schedule work long term.
Working seven days a week sounds like a busy schedule that could easily lead to burnout or am I missing something?
Questions
For those of you working two jobs do you have
- 2 part time jobs or
- 1 full time and 1 casual/ part time in weekend?
- Don’t you miss the freedom to relax and enjoy your free time?
During interview for your second job do you tell them you are seeking a 2nd job?

WELLY WCC is currently consulting on increasing residential rates, again! WTF?? up to 9%
WCC are currently consulting on reducing the comercial rates differential. In exchange of lowering comercial rates household rates will have to cover the loss.
This could mean that household could have an increase of 9%!
This seems crazy in a cost-of-living crisis when half the city has been made redundant already.
What the hell WCC? Haven't we learnt that trickle down economics doesn't work already?
This smells like the Taw Payers Union's dirty work. I wonder how much of Jordan William's fingers are over this.
Put your feedback in on this. This is crazy!

INCOMING Moving to Wellington
Hello,
My husband and I will be moving to Wellington in the new year from Auckland. Having spent my entire life up here its a big move for me, he studied in Palmy so knows the area a bit more than me. We'll be working in Petone and Khandallah. What are some good areas for rentals and amenities (doctor, supermarket, takeaways, shops etc)?

INCOMING Moving to Wellington with a toddler
Moving from Auckland (Onehunga) to Wellington in Jan next year.
I’m a mobile service technician so will be driving all over, wife will be working corporate in the city. We have a 2 year old. Wife will do daycare drop offs and I will do pickups (any daycare recommendations welcome, we have 2 spots offered, 1 @ Karori & 1 in Lower Hutt)
Looking at where you’d recommend renting as we’d rather rent for a year or two to get to know the city first then buy after. We’re currently looking at Karori (good daycare options) or Crofton Downs? Alternatively Lower Hutt somewhere near a train line for her work transit.
Any thoughts in general are welcome 🙏
TLDR;
Moving from AKL, looking for family vibes & good transport - suggestions?
