General Rear ended on Thursday 15th around intersection on University blvd and turbine Drive. Looking for footage

Last Thursday, around 8:30am as I was about to enter UCF, I was rear-ended while I stopped at a crosswalk that intersected turbine drive and university blvd to allow a pedestrian to finish crossing the street. Even though the traffic light was green, I had stopped to yield to the pedestrian. Unfortunately, the driver behind me was unable to brake in time and rear-ended my car.

I was wondering if anyone knows whether there are any cameras at that crosswalk that record instead of live stream and whether if its worth contacting the authorities to request that footage or if anyone happened to witness the accident and has dashcam footage.

I would really appreciate any information or footage anyone might have. Thank you so much for your help!

Employment 📉 SVAD Employment Rates

Hello, everyone!

I've been a bit discouraged, looking at the seniors I used to know within SVAD, especially in emerging media, and how I haven't really heard of many leaving college and finding work. I wanted to ask, especially for any alumni out there, how is it looking out there? Back when I first applied into SVAD, I asked for employment rates per major as other schools would share this information, but I was told this wasn't really collected. Looking through the names I remember, either they don't update their LinkedIns, or it's looking pretty scary out there.

General Witnessed a serious scooter accident on campus. Please wear a helmet and slow down in crowded areas

During the week, I witnessed a terrible accident on campus involving a student on an electric scooter and a UCF Facilities driver. I can’t say who was at fault. Neither appeared to be speeding, but the student was hit and landed face-first on the ground. He lost consciousness and was bleeding. He regained consciousness before the police arrived and took over, but it was frightening to witness. I really hope he’s doing okay.

Please wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter, and slow down and be patient in crowded areas.

I also had a close call at 63 South. Someone riding past at high speed almost collided with me as I came out of the restroom. If we had collided, we both could have been seriously hurt.

Please stay aware of your surroundings, especially if you’re wearing earbuds or headphones. I don’t want to see anyone else get hurt.

Clubs/Organizations 🤺 UCF Board Making Club interest

Hey guys I’m interested in starting a “board” making club at UCF. The goal is to be able to utilize tools provided by UCF for students (like the TI lab laser cutter) and fabricate better tools (like board presses and large vacuum bag setups) to help make custom skateboards, ripstiks, surfboards, snowboards, etc. Now as someone who partakes in all four of these activities and likes custom stuff, I felt like it would be a fun club to start. I was hoping other students might also be interested, perchance. I will eventually be printing this 6’8” fun board I’m designing and I’ve already 3D printed a working electric ripstik. Eventually I want to try to fabricate a mountain bike so maybe that’s a direction the club could go.

Non-School Question 🎮 Are there any good reccomendations for haircut for men with curly hair?

I'm very picky with the people that cut my hair because many barbers don't seem to understand that my hair, and curly hair in general, will straighten more when wet and curl back up when dry. Shocker I know.

But it leads a lot of them to ignore the intructions I give them thinking they know better and cut my hair way too short and not the way I wanted. One guy gave me a cut that made my head have shape of an egg. I had to walk around like that for months, it was not fun.

If anyone has any reccomendations for salons, barbershops, specific hair stylists or barbers around the area, I would really greatly appreciate it. It would be a huge help to me and to the rest of my curly haired brethren

Academic ✏️ Research Methods — 6085

Hey! I'm taking 6085 with Ilegbusi and I wanted to know if anyone could share what the final product should look like.. I have my introduction and my literature review completed already — but I wanted to see if anyone could share what the final report should look like. I want to work ahead of schedule and try to finish early so I figure that I could start now. I already have my topic fleshed out it's moreso that I just want to see what the formatting, font, ToC, etc should look like.

If anyone has any tips or things to remember when writing the 15-page report then that would be helpful as well.. thanks!

COMPLAINT/RANT How do you report bus driver behavior?

To be frank, I am severely pissed off at some of the intra-campus drivers. Yesterday I was sweating my rear off due to a heatwave and when I left a shuttle the bus driver called to me and mouthed “You smell really bad.” Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly for some who’ve had to deal with some of these impatient drivers, he stopped just to tell me that way longer than when he parked at a stop today. Today this driver noticed me crossing a street to board his bus again and finally stayed parked for more than 5 seconds, but when I was walking up to the door he drove off. (Update: On second thought he probably didn’t see me at all. I still wish some drivers could wait a little though.) The next bus I tried taking only stopped for a few seconds too. As soon as he parked I waved him down while crossing a road, he looked at me, and sped off.

I am physically disabled. It’s gone to the point where I’m waking up incredibly sore from having to repeatedly walk around for another shuttle, especially since some stops don’t have anywhere to sit. These drivers can take 15-30 minute piss breaks but can’t wait more than 5 seconds at their stop. They have no idea how rude this can be to physically abled students and disabled students like myself.

Another update: Alright, I’ve seen what some of you are thinking so I just want to clarify that I am not one of the serial stinkers 😭 every time I go on campus I take an extra shower beforehand. That day I planned to get a lot done and forgot to check the forecast… mid-day and mid-errand it ended up being 90 degrees.

Graduation 🎓 My last-minute nightmare graduation situation. Don't be like me, make sure you all have all your paperwork in order.

I wanted to give a kind of cautionary tale so hopefully others don't fall into the same situation as me. I will go ahead and admit ahead of time that I am at least half at fault for my own situation, probably closer to 75-80% my fault, and also this is probably a very unique situation.

I am a former UCF staff engineer, I worked at a certain off-site field testing facility operated by UCF. In 2023 about a year after I started working there I applied to graduate school because I fell in love with the work we did at the site.

Initially the professor who would be my advisor, who was also involved with where I worked, had me apply to UCF graduate school under MAE because originally my background was in Aerospace Engineering. He had a really intriguing project involved with it and I was quickly accepted under MAE, but it wasn't directly related to the work we were doing day to day where I worked. However, that project ended up not really having a lot of funding associated and we couldn't even get the necessary software to start working on it.

I was more interested in Electro-Optics (more in line with what I did at my job) and that was also his primary field, so he "switched" me to MSEE Electro-Optics track. I then took all the classes necessary to fulfill the degree, and have gotten good grades the whole way through. Initially I was going to do the MSEE Electro-Optics with a thesis, but this summer I switched to non-thesis cause I recently moved out of state to work elsewhere in the field and thesis became pretty much impossible for me. So instead I took two final EO classes to hit the 30 credit hour requirement.

So we get to today, I am doing well in my final two classes and I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to graduate so I start talking with the graduate office cause I keep all these errors on MyUCF (which I pretty much never look at unless I'm paying tuition or signing up for class) when I try to apply to graduate. It turns out there's this Graduate Plan of Study thing that I had to fill out, so I did that after going back and forth with the EE grad office and them saying everything would get approved. Then after that form makes it through their office, they inform me I'm not in their college at all and that I need to reach out to the MAE office.

The MAE office knows who to contact so a big e-mail with a bunch of people cc'd forms. And it turns out the only way to remediate the situation is to re-apply to UCF, get re-admitted, and then petition for the 30 credit hours (which are all MSEE EO classes) to be valid.

So I've effectively completed the degree, but it's all in jeopardy now because this whole time I thought I was in MSEE EO but I never was in the first place. Up until now there was never even any indication to me that anything was wrong, I never got any holds on my account preventing me from signing up for classes, my former advisor even thought I was in MSEE EO and was telling me what classes to take. I'm even still listed on his website as an MSEE student!

I feel like it should just be a flag they can change on the backend, I've already done all the work, but atleast I hopefully have a path forward to graduate...

Anyways, moral of the story: If you're a graduate student make sure you have a plan of study in place early and do your due diligence if your plans change to make sure everything is in order. I couldn't tell there was anything wrong up until the very end and while I'm sure it'll all work out there's a non-zero chance all my time and money and effort will have been wasted.
