The more I read this book, the more I start to dislike the Andy Muschietti movies
I’m on my 3rd re read of It and I can’t help but fall in love with the story, Derry, and how well King writes childhood friendships.
Now I don’t 100% dislike the remakes, I do enjoy them, but the more I read the book, the more I feel the movies don’t really stick the landing of what makes this book special
The first movie isn’t entirely Andy’s fault because he was going off of another script from Cary Fukanaga after he left the project with Gary Dauberman doing majority of the rewrites, but Chapter 2 was I believe Andy, Jason Fuchs, and Dauberman all together.
Chapter 2 has some good moments and the casting is perfect, but the humor could have been toned down a lot and fix the whole Henry Bowers story because the fact he didn’t succeed at stabbing Mike makes him have no point in the movie whatsoever.
I don’t think It particularly needs a remake, because I prefer more adaptations of non adapted works, but if they were to possibly go back, I would like an adaptation that feels like an early A24 independent film with an eerie atmosphere and have the story take place in the time period of the book

Discussion Mike Flanagan has the sauce
With the release of Carrie, there has been a lot of discussion, much of with I disagree with. However, the one that sticks out to me the most is the criticisms of Flanagan. I’m one who prefers book version of the shining over the movie. I also understand how revered the film is and the impossible task of following it up.
Flanagan is able to achieve this impeccably. Doctor Sleep is an excellent adaptation of the book and I actually prefer it to the book. Haunting of Hill House is brought up a lot to support the fact that he is lacking in the “book adaptation department” Doctor Sleep needs to be mentioned more as it’s an excellent adaptation of a book in one continuity while being a sequel to a movie set in another continuity. (Also the end of the movie is far better than the book)

Discussion Am I crazy or is this what Barlow is supposed to look like according to the book?
According to the book description, this is the guy I pictured immediately in my head. Now later in the story we learn he can appear younger or older depending on his intent, but this seems to be the base form he assumes in public. Why then, does every media representation opt for a Voldemort with teeth sort of look? I thought it was just the 2024 version but it looks like the 1979 mini series does almost the same thing.

General Mike Flanagan confirms that his Dark Tower Series will have characters and plots from the King’s original book series.
Every “update” I read is like this.

Image Dropped by Uncle Steves house
My wife and I just got back home to Scotland from an incredible Autumnal roadtrip for our 10th Anniversary around all of the New England states, and of course Mr King's house was an obligatory stop along the way. We did almost the same trip 10 years ago - though that time we did the full SK Tour (which was great btw, highly recommend if you ever go!), this time we just did our own tour ourselves and stopped by major places of inspiration for many of his books. Bangor is such a lovely wee town, was so happy to be back, especially at this time of year too, the vibes were immaculate.
Have you been? Did you enjoy it? Let me know your experiences if so! Or maybe you have plans to go?

I made this femme style Pennywise costume based on the descriptions from the book. (Silver suit and orange Pom Pom buttons, bozo/clarabelle style makeup, red hair but instead of tufts it’s in clips, white gloves and silver bow tie, and took the photos(I’m not the girl in the pics)

Discussion Don’t laugh… I’m afraid to read Pet Sematary
I have read a lot of horror in the past 5 or so years, including a ton of Stephen King. I have purposefully avoided Pet Sematary, however, because I always see comments from parents of small children that find the book especially traumatizing/disturbing. I’m torn because I don’t want to miss out on one of Kings most highly regarded books, but I generally dislike books/films where terrible things happen to kids.
With that said, I’ve read Salems Lot, IT, The Stand, and The Shining, among others where terrible/grusome things happen to children and I thoroughly enjoyed all those books as a whole.
Does Pet Sematary take it to another level or am I just being a baby?
Edit: I guess I should add my trepidation comes from the fact that I am the father of 2 small children and 1 on the way
Edit 2: alright, I’m getting the sense that I need to tackle this one if I’m going to call myself a true fan of horror. Can’t say that everyone’s comments have allayed my fear at all though lol.
Edit 3: I am simultaneously more determined to read this book and also more terrified than ever to do so. I will definitely make a reaction post once I’m finished.

I put the Dark Tower off for so long and I'm kicking myself.
I'm so very glad I have never seen spoilers for the Dark Tower because I'm currently on Song Of Susannah and if you'd told me where these books were going after I'd read the Gunslinger I'd never have believed you.
It was my mission to read the whole series this year and if you're on the fence about reading them then don't put it off any longer, you're in for a treat.
Don't put it off any longer. You're gonna love it. ✌🏻

Discussion I cry pardon if this theory about Roland Deschain's journey to The Dark Tower has already been discussed. [SPOILERS GALORE] Spoiler
So I'm taking my third trip to the tower. I'm halfway through book seven now knowing full well that my heart's gonna break (again) at the top of those stairs..
Anyway I had a theory this time around and wondered what others thought about it.
Roland is caught in the neverending rotation of Ka's wheel right? But.. what if he could break that wheel?
I understand that Roland has been told that his mission, as the last in the line of Eld, is to save the tower by any means necessary. Except this is kinda sorta untrue. When he finally gets to the tower it's not like he saves the world. He just resets his journey. Over and over again.
So if him getting to the tower just repeats his journey, what would happen if he decides one day to just let the tower fall? Just let the breakers finish their job? Would the universe actually end? It's what he believes but than again what he believes has him in purgatory forever.
I'm not a fan fiction writer but it would be cool to hear thoughts on what would actually happen if Roland didn't finish his quest. The fact that the tower is only being held by 2 beams makes me think it was going to topple over regardless.
Anyways I guess this is just a fun discussion about other worlds than these. :)

Discussion Unpopular opinion
I don't think The Stand is King's best book ever.
I'm not sure if it's because the plot didn't appeal to me, I've been exposed to too many apocalyptic stories, or I just couldn't connect with the characters.

Any recommendations for my next read?
I have about 100 pages left in Under the Dome right now. EDIT: the photos in my post show that I already read these books and what I rated them. Sorry I did not make that clear.

The Haunting of Hill House & Carrie
Hello, I've been rereading Hill House, "a masterpiece" according to King, and noticed the following in the first 2 chapters:
Eleanor and Carrie are introduced as sisters, and "one day, when she was twelve years old and her sister was eighteen, and their father had been dead for not quite a month, showers of stones had fallen on their house, without any warning".
Stones raining magically on Carrie's house! What a coincidence.
I checked the subreddit and it was last mentioned a couple years ago, I'd never heard of this link so I thought I'd resurface the connection considering the recent sow.

Discussion Non-Americans, who is the "Stephen King" of your country?
Marko Hautala is commonly referred to as "the Stephen King of Finland" in my country. I like his books a lot, and I notice similarities to King myself. Is there an author in your country who is compared to Stephen King?

Other Worlds Than These Afterword Spoiler
In Stephen King's new novel "Other Worlds Than These" which is the 3rd book in his Talisman Trilogy and the FINAL piece of Dark Tower related fiction he ever plans on writing as well the afterword in it almost makes it sound like he might be putting down the pen and retiring soon.
It's honestly understandable, the man is nearly 80. Carrie was his first novel ever published and he was 26 at the time and since then he has written 67 novels and novellas (including 7 written under the pen name Richard Bachman), 5 nonfiction books, along with more than 200 short stories compiled into various collections. Genuinely one of the most prolific writers of all-time.
He has so many classics that have transcended the written medium and gone on to become masterpieces of film as well. He's influenced countless writers, filmmakers and even video game creators. I've been reading his stories since I was a teenager and I'm now 32, literally over half my life. I grew up with King's work and he's definitely one of the most influential authors of all time to me. Hell, if you know me, you know The Dark Tower is still to this day my favorite book series ever since I read it when I was a teenager.
Basically all I'm saying with all this is I know all good things must come to an end, but it's still hard to believe and it truly feels like the end of an era seeing King talking about how he's slowly wrapping up his career. There will never be another writer like King, certainly not in my lifetime and possibly ever, but he's certainly earned the retirement too and I hope he has a long and happy life with his loved ones.
