kinhin: scale your Mac’s CI runners to your queue

Thumbnail
youtube.com
0 Upvotes

kinhin watches your CI queue and, for each queued job, starts a fresh VM or container on your Apple silicon Mac, registers a one-job runner, and deletes it afterwards. Nothing idles and nothing is left over.

It works with GitHub Actions, GitLab CE, Gitea Actions and Forgejo Actions. Buildkite, Azure Pipelines and Bitbucket are planned for a later release.

The limits: Apple allows two macOS VMs at once on a Mac, whatever the hardware. Linux containers are not capped by that.

It’s still a beta. The beta 2 post lists what has been run for real and what hasn’t: https://kinhin.dev/blog/beta-2

Source and releases: https://github.com/RabinApps/kinhin. I’d especially like feedback from anyone running CI on Macs today.

myosOS - A standalone, lightweight x86_64 kernel built from scratch!

Hello everyone, I am a 14-year-old developer and I want to share my open-source hobby project: myosOS.It is a standalone, lightweight x86_64 kernel written entirely from scratch using LLVM Clang and LLD Linker. The build system is fully automated using GNU Make (make and make run via QEMU emulator mapping to standard VNC loops).Current features include a minimalist terminal layout with a "Type here:" prompt at the bottom of the screen. I am sharing this under the GNU GPLv3 license to invite the community to review the source code, optimize the kernel, and contribute to its future development.GitHub Repository:

LocalInbox: native Mac email where the AI never leaves your machine

Thumbnail

Hi, I’m Manish. I kept switching between Apple Mail, web apps and other clients, but none of them felt right. Most were either slow web wrappers or they sent my mail to their servers so the AI features could work. I wanted something native, private and useful, so I built it myself.

LocalInbox exists because I wanted one inbox that stays on my Mac. It connects straight to Gmail, iCloud or any IMAP account. No LocalInbox account is needed and nothing goes through my servers.

What it does:

  • Puts every account in one unified inbox
  • Sorts mail as it arrives into To Reply, Updates, Promotions and categories you describe in plain words
  • Shows phishing warnings that explain why a message looks suspicious
  • Lets you search inside images and PDF attachments
  • Runs summaries, reply drafts and Ask your mailbox with cited sources on your Mac using Apple’s model or your own Ollama or LM Studio setup
  • Gives you Send Later, snooze and undo that keep working even when the app is closed
  • Copies one time codes straight from notifications and strips tracking pixels

It solves the problem of jumping between accounts while still wanting smart features without handing your inbox to another company. You get the AI help, but everything stays on your machine.

New updates are already shipping and more are on the way.

Happy to answer questions.

PasteSpace 3.0 - big update - a secure clipboard manager for macOS

Download from App Store

Everything you copy, found in seconds, even the words inside your screenshots. Passwords and card numbers lock themselves behind Touch ID. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Copy the way you always do. PasteSpace remembers it all, and hands any of it back in seconds.

Text, links, images and files: everything you copy lands in a history you can search instantly, stored only on your Mac. Passwords and card numbers are locked behind Touch ID the moment you copy them. And you can find a screenshot just by a word that was in it.

An hour ago, a client emailed you their address. Now you need it. Press ⌥⇧V and PasteSpace opens right under your pointer. Type a word you remember, press Return, then ⌘V. Done, without leaving what you were writing.

FIND ANYTHING YOU COPIED

• Search the text of every item, file names and the app each copy came from. Accents don't matter: “cafe” finds “café”.

• Find a screenshot by the words inside it. Text in images is recognized on your Mac, in up to 30 languages.

• Search inside documents (Pro): PDFs, scanned PDFs, Word, Excel, RTF, OpenDocument, web pages and text files are found by the words they contain.

• Filter by 16 kinds of content and sort nine ways; in Pro, add date, state and source app.

SECRETS LOCK THEMSELVES

Card numbers, IBANs, passwords, API keys, SSH keys and seed phrases are recognized as you copy them and encrypted with AES-256 in the Vault. A locked item shows only a mask (a card reads “•••• 4242”), never appears in search, and opens only with Touch ID or your Mac's password. Copies from password managers go straight into the Vault, and anything else locks with one click.

NOTHING LEAVES YOUR MAC

No account. No cloud. No analytics, no ads, no tracking. Your history lives only on this Mac, inside the macOS App Sandbox, and every feature works offline. The only connection is Apple's App Store, for purchases and the occasional rating request.

PasteSpace never asks for the Accessibility permission, which would let an app watch and control your Mac. It puts your item on the clipboard, brings back your app, and the ⌘V stays yours.

EDIT BEFORE YOU PASTE

Quick Look opens any item in a floating panel with a full rich-text editor: fonts, colors, highlights, lists, undo and redo, and ⌘F to find. Saving never overwrites: every edit becomes a new version next to the original. Fix a word misread in a scanned receipt, then copy just the part you need, formatted or plain.

DATA MAGIC

57 one-click transformations, offered only when they fit what you copied. Pretty-print JSON or turn it into a Swift struct, convert colors, strip tracking from links, turn spreadsheet cells into a Markdown table, add up numbers.

BUILT FOR THE WAY YOU WORK

• Pin what you paste every day: your address, IBAN, signature, templates.

• Select several items and copy, pin, lock or drag them all at once.

• Drag text, images and files straight into other apps, as real files.

• Share through Messages, Mail, AirDrop and more, or turn any text into a QR code.

• Paste with formatting, or as plain text whenever you want.

• Always on top: keep the window open while you work.

• App Blocklist: apps whose copies are never recorded.

• Ephemeral Mode (Pro): erase your history every time PasteSpace quits. Vault items are always kept.

Made for people who copy and paste all day, and for anyone handling client data, credentials or confidential documents.

FREE, WITH PRO WHEN YOU NEED MORE

Free: 10 history items, 3 pins, 2 Vault items and 1 blocked app, with Quick Look, text recognition, Data Magic and QR codes for your latest text and image. Search, sorting, filtering by kind, Share and drag and drop are always free.

PasteSpace Pro is one purchase, with no subscription: unlimited history, pins, Vault items and blocked apps; Quick Look, text recognition, Data Magic and QR codes for every item; search inside documents; advanced filters; and Ephemeral Mode. Yours for life, future updates included.

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Touch ID recommended for the Vault; your Mac's password works too.

Questions or ideas? [mariuscpopescu@icloud.com](mailto:mariuscpopescu@icloud.com). I read every email.

“And it’s only $9.99. Feel free to checkout my project GitHub where you’ll find 25 commits made within the last day, consisting of 1 x 300 file commit followed by 24 tweaks to try and make it less like Claude vomited everywhere.

I’ll be here to argue with anyone who can genuinely write code for the next hour. Then I’ll be gone for a week and then I’ll start a new post about it.

Disclaimer: Claude did everything but I promise I code reviewed all 32,768 lines of code.”

I’m tired boss.

I’m done with this sub.

I made Pregap, a native audio CD burner for macOS: gapless, CD-Text, straight from your files

Post image
1 Upvotes

Disclosure: I'm the developer. It's $4.99, one-time. I built it with AI assistance; every line was reviewed, and it's been tested on real discs and real players.

I used Burn for years, but it hasn't kept up with current macOS, and burning from Music means importing everything into your library first (and converting FLAC before it'll take it at all). So I built Pregap: a native audio CD burner that does one thing properly.

- **Straight from your files.** Drop in files, folders or playlists: FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, or anything else macOS can decode. Nothing gets imported into a library, and your originals aren't touched.

- **Gapless.** It always burns disc-at-once, with no gap between tracks unless you add one, so live albums and mixes play straight through.

- **CD-Text.** Track and artist names come from your tags, and you can edit any of them in place. Car stereos, hi-fi decks and CDJs that read CD-Text show them (tested on a CDJ-800MK2 and a CDJ-1000MK3).

- **No coasters.** It checks the drive, the disc, the running time and every file before it starts, and won't begin a burn it can't finish.

- **Native.** Swift and SwiftUI on Apple's own DiscRecording framework, with zero third-party dependencies. Universal, sandboxed, no network access, about 6 MB, no accounts, no subscription.

Needs macOS 14 or later and any USB CD burner.

Mac App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/pregap/id6814982070

Website and guides: https://pregap.app

Early feedback is already shaping the next update: a bigger Burn button, verify after burning, and previewing tracks before you burn. I'd love to hear what else you'd want.

TallBar - spacious MacBook Liquid Retina menu bar (~50 pt) to any external monitor.

TallBar is a lightweight, zero-configuration macOS menu bar utility that brings the tall, spacious MacBook Liquid Retina menu bar (~50 pt) to any external monitor.

Standard external monitors on macOS have a narrow menu bar (~24–31 pt). TallBar dynamically unlocks the native MacBook safe area padding and tall menu bar height on any display, without changing your screen resolution or requiring complex HiDPI preset switching.

Before (Standard macOS Menu Bar — 31 pt)

After (TallBar Active — 50 pt Spacious Height)

  • Native Notch App Compatibility: Exposes hardware safeAreaInsets (top: 48.5 pt) and auxiliary top zones, allowing notch apps (Vorssaint, Boring Notch, Dynamic Lake, etc.) to work out-of-the-box.

I built a Mac app that removed 5:12 of sponsor reads from a podcast episode before it reached my usual player

I'm the developer of Feedcast, a Mac app I made because I wanted to clean up episodes without giving up the podcast player I already use.

In one real episode, I reviewed two detected sponsor sections and removed 5 minutes 12 seconds from my personal copy. Feedcast then publishes that copy as an RSS feed for Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts and other compatible players. The original stays available, and cuts can be reviewed or undone.

Here's the app: https://feedcast.org/

Curious what other Mac podcast listeners would want to see before trusting an automated cut.
