ANDROMEDA Thinking back on it now, Cora’s romance scene was kind of nuts

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

It’s easily the most graphic sex scene in the franchise, in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a puritan, and I enjoyed seeing it for the first time as a young adult, but I fr hope no one was expecting something a bit more tame and got overwhelmed, ruining the fun.

It really just comes down to the fact that there’s sound effects for the penetration! You enter a new territory with that…in a lot of ways

I didn’t have much to say; I was thinking about Cora’s bakery(as I’m one to do) and I thought about this. It’s just kinda crazy to me.

Although if they gave some of this spice to Neve I’d probably like Veilguard more

DISCUSSION Unpopular opinion: Leviathan is low-key the best DLC in ME

Post image
908 Upvotes

Everyone always hype up Citadel for the fan service, but for me Leviathan is easily the best.

It genuinely makes you feel so small and helpless in front of something so ancient, full-on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea vibes

Hands down the coolest lore and atmosphere in the entire trilogy—even with the repetitive lab scanning loop and the fact that they just end up as a war asset number at the end

THEORY Beyond the Cycle: The Species That Tricked the Reapers

Post image
816 Upvotes

As I am replaying the original trilogy, I have been thinking about who could be the next big antagonist for the new Mass Effect game (if we ever get one).

So, the Reapers are gone, and they set the bar pretty high. For a billion years, they have purged advanced species of the Milky Way. Mighty empires crumbled before them and were wiped out, leaving only crumbs to pick up for those that came after them. Or is that really the case?

What could be more terrifying than the Reapers? A species that survived despite them. A billion years is a long time. What if an alien race adapted itself to the cycles? Let's say a primitive version of that race encountered a prior Reaper invasion (similar to the Reapers that visited Stone Age humans) and maybe even witnessed the destruction of their predecessors. Although they were primitive enough to escape the harvest, they were able to understand the Reapers for what they were — an evil deity that punished advanced civilizations. Civilizations that were too prideful.

As a consequence, their culture became dominated by the fear of the Reapers. Technological advancement was not prohibited, but shaped by the need to stay hidden. This species, for example, would never broadcast electromagnetic signals into space as we do. And somehow — they managed to survive their scouring.

How they did it is unknown.

1) Either they were able to migrate away from their planet, far from the mass relays, escaping the watchful eyes of the Reapers. From there, they would observe and study the destruction of the Milky Way galaxy.

2)Another theory suggests that, making use of an elaborate scout system, they could scan the universe for signs of an incoming Reaper invasion. If these signs were detected, the entire species would fall back into a primitive state.

Cycle after cycle (experts suggest they survived 6-8 cycles), they became better at hiding from the Reapers. However, one thing never changed: they knew that under no circumstances should the gods be interfered with.

But in the last cycle, something changed. Scout systems all over the Milky Way reported that the Reapers were defeated. How is this ancient species, which was kept in check for so long by the apex predator, supposed to deal with this new reality?

VIDEO TIL that if Garrus and Jack are both dead, Jacob will be the one to question Miranda naming herself the second team leader.

The way to make this happen is by selling or not reactivating Legion, not installing the Ship Armor upgrade which gets Jack killed, not installing the Shield Upgrade which will get Thane killed depending on who you pick to help you fight the Oculus, and not installing the Thanix Cannon which will get Garrus killed since Thane is already dead by this point.

When you sneak into the Kett ship and take out all the enemies, you can lie and say that everything is fine. Ryder will say, "Everything's under control. Just a simple weapons malfunction. How are you?" Obviously a nod to Han Solo in A New Hope when they are in the Death Star prison cells.

DISCUSSION Quarians and the Geth

• Upvotes

As I'm in the middle of the Quarian and Geth plot in my second playthrough of ME3, I've been thinking about their history with each other and have been pondering one question in particular:

How much of the Quarians' decision to kill the Geth as soon as they became sentient was motivated by fear and how much was motivated by a desire to cover-up what they had done (with AI creation being frowned upon by the Council)?

Right now, I lean towards the latter being the slightly more major factor. I understand the fear of what the Geth might do, but going immediately to what is genocide seems like an overreaction. Especially when there were Quarians who supported the Geth... Quarians who were willing to give them a chance because the Geth hadn't done anything wrong or remotely violent yet.

My personal impression of the Quarians is that I feel like they're more level-headed and less prone to being so driven by fear that they can't even entertain sitting down with the Geth and peacefully figuring out where they might go from there.

It feels far more like a cover-up. "We made a mistake and don't want to get caught and face the consequences of our actions."

I'm curious as to what other people think. I'm open-minded and willing to change my views, but I definitely was more sympathetic towards the Geth in my first playthrough and feel even more strongly that way during this one.

THEORY Why was Sovereign chosen to be the vanguard?

I understand Sovereign was the most power class of reaper, but what did Sovereign the reaper do to deserve to essentially be the reaper messiah? Perhaps he was some kind of alpha. Wondering thoughts on this

DISCUSSION What are the chances that we might get some update/new information on N7 day, either about Mass Effect 5 or in general?

I know that the state of Mass Effect and Bioware is dire, but i am curious if we might find out some information at N7 Day.

Bioware's workforce was reduced under 100 at the beginning of 2025 and the PIF buyout was completed on August 4th this year (2 months ago). I imagine that if they wanted to close Bioware, they would have already done it or announce it; obviously there is still time for that to happen, but i would imagine that PIF would know what is the state of Bioware, due to EA owning them for a long period and them tracking what is happening.

DISCUSSION Urdnot Wreav's role if Wrex is the clan leader

Urdnot Wreav distinguishes himself as the first replacement character, filling Wrex's shoes if the player let him die Virmire, never recruited him, or started with the default world state in ME2 and asserting himself as a person with a different, and backwards, worldview. If you visit Tuchanka, which is technically entirely optional, he thanks Shepard for killing his broodbrother, which enabled him to rise to leadership. In ME3, Wreav will play a prominent role as the Krogan leader that we all know.

However, I can't help but point out how underwhelming Wreav is if Wrex survives Virmire, which is incredibly easy if you play Legendary Edition that made ME1 playable for new players. ME2 pretends that Wreav doesn't exist, and theoretically someone who doesn't read wikis or guides won't even know that Wreav could appear in that game. Wrex or any other Krogan don't mention him despite the likely bloody leadership contest between him and Wreav.

In ME3, Wreav's role is criminally minor, considering the potential for conflict between him backed by traditional Krogan and Wrex supported by "Reformers". Wreav is conveniently killed off by Kalros and isn't mentioned ever again (correct me if I am wrong).

Let's do some mental gymnastics and find out how Wreav could have shined in the timeline where Wrex becomes Urdnot leader.

DISCUSSION I didn't know this was a thing.

In my first playthrough, as a male Shepard, I just romanced Kaidan in ME3. I don't remember him having any flirty, random lines of banter.

This playthrough, I romanced Liara in ME1 and Miranda in ME2 (but broke up with her after the main story). Of course, in those two games there is no clicking on squadmates to hear random lines.

But this isn't the first bit of random, flirty dialogue I've heard from Steve after locking him in. Unless I'm misremembering things with Kaidan, now I think they did him extra dirty in ME3.

This makes me curious now, though, if all romance options have this going on for them in ME3 because I have no idea. Also, let me know if I am forgetting about Kaidan actually having lines like this too.

DISCUSSION Did Bioware tell us too much about the Reaper

Post image

As the title suggests, I think we have been told too much about them. I wanted to look at some lore videos but then noticed, that the games have demystified them. We know nearly everything about them. How they are made, who made them and how old they are.

If they return in 5, what are we supposed to see? Am I missing something?

DISCUSSION Any missions where Specific squad member makes significant impact ?

On my second playthrough, i found that Javik makes a great impact on thessia artifact mission in ME3 and he has lot of extra dialogues which makes sense given the artifacts are related to prothean. This completely changes the mission experience and it feels like javik should have been mandatory in this mission just like how ED is in cerebrus hq mission. In suicide mission of ME2, if u have miranda at the end, she has unique dialigue to illusive man which is really great as its her complete shift from "cerebrus bitch" after defending TIM throughout game. Any other such missions where a squad member can have significant impact ?

MASS EFFECT 2 ME2 engineer cryo blast or incinerate ?

Which should be promoted first incinerate or cryo ? Also which all abilities to be promoted early on to make engineer stronger ? I heard engineer is great but early game it is even more struggling than vanguard for me. Vamguard is boring though as entire game its just charge and shoot which is why i tried out engineer. Sentinel is my fav class so far.

Help me out here. I'm losing sleep over where to put the mandatory N7 on my new car. I was gonna go with the back somewhere, maybe just to the left of the right tail-light? But there's this flat section on the front fender that might look pretty good.

I know I'm overthinking it but I don't want to get it wrong. Please help, the galaxy may or may not be at stake.

THEORY What if the Leviathans did not create the reapers, but instead are the last race to successfully defeat them and choose the control option? They could then remake them in their own image, and make up any story they want about their origins.

don't know if this topic is covered in the extracurricular lore outside of gameplay.

but given that they are at least as old as the reapers and clearly capable of controlling them at will individually (though perhaps not the entire fleet now that it's grown so large after thousands of cycles), I don't think I would've trusted them so quickly after a 10 minute conversation in a setting they completely controlled.

edit: pulling in some additional thoughts scattered across a few comments that I should've put up here to start with:

what if their control ending started out fine, but in choosing control the leviathans ended up biting off more than they could chew and got into a galactic scale sorcerer's apprentice predicament, spiced with evil (the Leviathan are cooperative opportunistically at best).

what if the reapers accumulated so much genetic diversity after thousands of harvests, that the Leviathan power to control them gradually diminished to the point where it would only work on a few reapers at a time.

It also seems implausible that the reapers after millions of years and thousands of cleansing cycles, were still unaware of the planet the leviathans were hiding out on (which, every time one of their crafts gets close mysteriously goes silent, oh and there's a bunch of space wreckage inexplicably untouched by scavengers from thousands of spacefaring civilizations come and gone since.. it seems a lot more likely that the reapers left the planet alone on purpose, knowing it was the one place the "control" signal was still strong enough to take them down.

Runaway expansion of Reaper numbers ended up pinning the leviathans back on their own world hiding or fending off from something they "controlled" back when it was a small and manageable fleet but quickly grew out of control in a galaxy with no competition to hold it back. so now they need to wait for (or engineered a cycle of, uh, test driven development in order to produce ) the right galaxy-scale posse to appear so they can reel their machine servants/slaves back in... and along comes Shep.

DISCUSSION The Renegade approach should have been for dealing with Kannik not assassinating The General Septimus Oraka.

Post image

Kannik is a black market Merchant refusing to sell his weapons to General Septimus oraka.

The Renegade option for some reason is to assassinate The General when really the Renegade option should have been Shepard using there Specter authority to seize Kannik inventory of weapons for the war effort.
