DISCUSSION Did Bioware tell us too much about the Reaper

Post image

As the title suggests, I think we have been told too much about them. I wanted to look at some lore videos but then noticed, that the games have demystified them. We know nearly everything about them. How they are made, who made them and how old they are.

If they return in 5, what are we supposed to see? Am I missing something?

HELP Wanting to start legendary edition playthrough hesitant because of the ending

So i loved the mass effect trillogy when i originally played it. Got me3 the day it released and just played through the game in 2 days and absolutely hated the ending.

Now i got legendary edition on the last steam sale and kinda wanna play it considering i never got any of the dlc for the games, but the thought of having to reexperience the ending is kinda stopping me. Any advice?

DISCUSSION Unpopular opinion: Leviathan is low-key the best DLC in ME

Post image
446 Upvotes

Everyone always hype up Citadel for the fan service, but for me Leviathan is easily the best.

It genuinely makes you feel so small and helpless in front of something so ancient, full-on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea vibes

Hands down the coolest lore and atmosphere in the entire trilogy—even with the repetitive lab scanning loop and the fact that they just end up as a war asset number at the end

ANDROMEDA Thinking back on it now, Cora’s romance scene was kind of nuts

Post image

It’s easily the most graphic sex scene in the franchise, in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a puritan, and I enjoyed seeing it for the first time as a young adult, but I fr hope no one was expecting something a bit more tame and got overwhelmed, ruining the fun.

It really just comes down to the fact that there’s sound effects for the penetration! You enter a new territory with that…in a lot of ways

I didn’t have much to say; I was thinking about Cora’s bakery(as I’m one to do) and I thought about this. It’s just kinda crazy to me.

Although if they gave some of this spice to Neve I’d probably like Veilguard more

MASS EFFECT 3 Fellow Infiltrators, what Sniper Rifles are you using?

So, I've been playing through the game on Insanity as an Infiltrator, and I've been having a blast. It's my second playthrough overall- the first one was as a Vanguard, so I wanted to go as far in the opposite direction as I could. It's fun playing as a glass cannon type, popping enemy heads with headshots all around me.

However, I feel like I'm missing out on things. More specifically, on weapon variety. As Vanguard, I've tried many shotguns and found value in most of them, even if I didn't actually use some. Sniper rifles, though? I simply don't get the use of anything other than a "one shot - one kill" type of sniper rifle. I first found it in ME1, where, despite faster-firing snipers nominally having much higher dps, they didn't feel nearly as good to use, as I would need to land several headshots in a row to down an enemy. This continued in ME2 - I geniunely tried using Incursor and Viper, but they simply aren't as reliable, so I stuck with the starter Mantis until I got the M-98 Widow (my beloved). And now I'm starting ME3, got to the Citadel, and got every Sniper I could - Indra, Krysae, Harpoon gun, and Viper - yet still find myself not interested in any of them except the starting Mantis. They either have lower damage, not enough to one-shot weaker enemies, or some gimmick with their projectiles, both of which makes them much less convenient to use. Right now all I can think of is to save up money for the Black Widow, maybe switching to the proper M-98 Widow later on (I'll see).

I get that there's nothing wrong with just sticking to one playstyle I like. But I still wanted to hear others' opinions on this. What are your favorite Sniper Rifles and why? Is there something I missed with the models I described above? Or are there other sniper rifles coming up I should pay attention to? Javelin seems promising, but I'm most interested in Valiant. Is that thing worth 250k?

DISCUSSION I didn't know this was a thing.

In my first playthrough, as a male Shepard, I just romanced Kaidan in ME3. I don't remember him having any flirty, random lines of banter.

This playthrough, I romanced Liara in ME1 and Miranda in ME2 (but broke up with her after the main story). Of course, in those two games there is no clicking on squadmates to hear random lines.

But this isn't the first bit of random, flirty dialogue I've heard from Steve after locking him in. Unless I'm misremembering things with Kaidan, now I think they did him extra dirty in ME3.

This makes me curious now, though, if all romance options have this going on for them in ME3 because I have no idea. Also, let me know if I am forgetting about Kaidan actually having lines like this too.

DISCUSSION The Renegade approach should have been for dealing with Kannik not assassinating The General Septimus Oraka.

Post image

Kannik is a black market Merchant refusing to sell his weapons to General Septimus oraka.

The Renegade option for some reason is to assassinate The General when really the Renegade option should have been Shepard using there Specter authority to seize Kannik inventory of weapons for the war effort.

MASS EFFECT 1 First Playthrough

(Wrote this right after finishing ME1 love to discuss the game)

Let me start by saying that before playing Mass Effect, I knew absolutely nothing about the series beyond the fact that it was a video game and some memes I had seen. I had never played it or really paid attention to it. I saw it was on sale and decided to go in completely blind.

I booted up the game, created a default Soldier Shepard, and started playing. I did not expect this game to blow me away, especially since I have never really been a story-game type of guy.

The best way to describe how much I loved it is that I have always been the kind of gamer who skips cutscenes to get back to shooting. But one of my favorite parts of the game wasn't the combat. It was the major story moments and getting back to the Normandy to talk to everyone.

There was something peaceful about it. I'd finish a mission, come back to the ship, and just walk around talking to people. I genuinely looked forward to it.

Even when I finished a section feeling a little disappointed or thought the dialogue was too limited, I'd think about it afterward and find myself going, "Actually, no, I love that. I can see why they did it that way."

So, for now, I'm just sitting here, jaw to the floor in awe over my Shepard's story. I love to discuss it more. Can't wait to play ME2!

Tali is a requirement, of course, for Priority: Geth Dreadnought, but I decided to bring EDI along as well.

Not only was it hard to keep up with all of the Geth hacking and me and Tali tossing out drones left and right...but EDI kept on confusing me with the Decoys. lol

DISCUSSION Any missions where Specific squad member makes significant impact ?

On my second playthrough, i found that Javik makes a great impact on thessia artifact mission in ME3 and he has lot of extra dialogues which makes sense given the artifacts are related to prothean. This completely changes the mission experience and it feels like javik should have been mandatory in this mission just like how ED is in cerebrus hq mission. In suicide mission of ME2, if u have miranda at the end, she has unique dialigue to illusive man which is really great as its her complete shift from "cerebrus bitch" after defending TIM throughout game. Any other such missions where a squad member can have significant impact ?

THEORY Beyond the Cycle: The Species That Tricked the Reapers

Post image
198 Upvotes

As I am replaying the original trilogy, I have been thinking about who could be the next big antagonist for the new Mass Effect game (if we ever get one).

So, the Reapers are gone, and they set the bar pretty high. For a billion years, they have purged advanced species of the Milky Way. Mighty empires crumbled before them and were wiped out, leaving only crumbs to pick up for those that came after them. Or is that really the case?

What could be more terrifying than the Reapers? A species that survived despite them. A billion years is a long time. What if an alien race adapted itself to the cycles? Let's say a primitive version of that race encountered a prior Reaper invasion (similar to the Reapers that visited Stone Age humans) and maybe even witnessed the destruction of their predecessors. Although they were primitive enough to escape the harvest, they were able to understand the Reapers for what they were — an evil deity that punished advanced civilizations. Civilizations that were too prideful.

As a consequence, their culture became dominated by the fear of the Reapers. Technological advancement was not prohibited, but shaped by the need to stay hidden. This species, for example, would never broadcast electromagnetic signals into space as we do. And somehow — they managed to survive their scouring.

How they did it is unknown.

1) Either they were able to migrate away from their planet, far from the mass relays, escaping the watchful eyes of the Reapers. From there, they would observe and study the destruction of the Milky Way galaxy.

2)Another theory suggests that, making use of an elaborate scout system, they could scan the universe for signs of an incoming Reaper invasion. If these signs were detected, the entire species would fall back into a primitive state.

Cycle after cycle (experts suggest they survived 6-8 cycles), they became better at hiding from the Reapers. However, one thing never changed: they knew that under no circumstances should the gods be interfered with.

But in the last cycle, something changed. Scout systems all over the Milky Way reported that the Reapers were defeated. How is this ancient species, which was kept in check for so long by the apex predator, supposed to deal with this new reality?
