ANNOUNCEMEMT Happy New Year, let's chat!

Hello r/makeuptips friends. Some of you may have noticed an absence of the moderators of this subreddit. You may have submitted modmail that went unanswered, to be honest.

I had gotten a moderator to help us develop an AutoMod for the sub. Something that would help ensure the rules were being followed with minimal intervention necessary by the mod team, but also allow for us to see the sub grow and become an amazing, welcoming place.

That moderator apparently was banned sometime in the last six months. I'm not sure what happened, I have no other way of contacting them, but needless to say it went unnoticed as the sub had been getting a lot better as far as content and rudeness, etc.

I'm opening the floor to hear what you have to say, while I go through the mod mail queue and respond to anyone that has went unnoticed. I will also be working on getting a moderator application up and running- Reddit actually allows for this within the framework of the site now, so that's a really neat development!

HELP PLEASE How I look vs how I feel. 🫪

I am extremely new to makeup. When I’m out in public and someone asks, "Who did your makeup?" I’m always scared to answer because I don’t know whether they are about to criticize or compliment me. When I’m finished, I feel like I stand in the mirror picking apart every minor flaw. When did you stop feeling self-conscious and more confident? It can be really difficult to know if I’m doing it correctly when many of the videos I watch offer conflicting information or tips.

First picture is the before and last two are from today!

Products used were Charlotte Tilbury concealer, beauty of joseon tinted sunscreen, laura mercier loose powder and rare beauty pressed powder, danessa myricks balm and bronzer, elf blush, dentures highlight and blush.

I did everything lightly this time.

My eyebrows were recently laminated, tinted and threaded with facial mapping(brow artist wanted them thicker but I asked her to trim them to at least this size)

HELP PLEASE Can someone help me figure out how to do makeup on my droopy eyes?

Post image
• Upvotes

Whenever I look up makeup tutorials for downturned eyes, I feel like I can never find someone with eyes quite like mine! That might be a skill issue on my part or I just have particularly droopy ass eyes.

Does anyone have any advice? I’d love to do beautiful colors and more alt kind of looks (more rave than emo) but also would love to get any advice generally for like day to day. Like what keywords should I try? Is eye shadow even worth it for my eye anatomy? What styles can I pull off?

This is bare faced but I usually do concealer on the bottom and then foundation everywhere and then brow tint+gel and then usually a clear lash gel.

I’m only newly into makeup as part of my transition so my apologies if I’ve butchered any terminology!

HELP PLEASE how to achieve this look??

Post image
16 Upvotes

How can I do this? I chose it because I don’t wear makeup often, and it seemed easier for a beginner like me. I want to achieve this eye look using minimal products.

I see a brown eyeshadow in it, but I’m wondering if there’s an alternative, maybe using kohl or something. My eyes are very similar to this, so I thought it would suit me. I don’t want to use eyeliner because whenever I try, I mess it up, and it makes my eyes look too wide. Plus, I can’t manage to create a wing : ((

I've never really been one to dabble in makeup other than mascara, eyeliner, brow pencil, and foundation. Like the basics. I don't want anything too heavy on my face.

I need product recommendations and color recommendations. Whatever you all would recommend for me, I would appreciate so much!

DISCUSSION Has anyone else have had a hard time going from big dramatic fake lashes to natural ones?

I have been wearing fake eyelashes since I was 15. I am 23 now and it’s either I go ALL natural (no makeup at all) OR a full beat (always including fake eyelashes)

I’m trying to find a middle ground so I’m not wearing so much makeup on the daily. Recently I have been doing light mascara instead. But, I’m feeling very naked and something’s missing from my face (my lashes) and I hate it. I can’t feel confident without them.

Has anyone been through this same thing?

Kinda frustrated the brand new neon green eyeliner I got recently is a broken pencil šŸ’” but I'm hoping there are ways I can still utilize the product. How do you guys DIY (or whatever lol) a broken product? Straight up crushing it up to make an eyeshadow is the only thing I have in mind so I hoped maybe if I asked, someone could give me more suggestions šŸ˜– was kinda excited to try out a green look with my Invader Zim Gir dress 🄺

HELP PLEASE Eyebrows & eye symmetry

I have 2 questions.

1- I am 32 and I never touched my eyebrows. Never trim them, never put makeup on them. But everyone around me seem to include some eyebrow product in their makeup routine. Would I benefit to start doing that?

2- Also, as you can see, I have one eye smaller than the other. Is there a way to make them look a more similar size with makeup? I won’t do fillers.

HELP PLEASE Henna brows…

Post image
8 Upvotes

I wanted to try something new because my eyebrows are thin, sparse and have no shape. I said I wanted fluffy looking henna brows.

I don’t know if I’m over reacting or if they will settle because I’ve never had henna brows done before…. Is it me or do they not look very professional? I feel they’re two different shapes? The start of them are quite blocky. Particularly the left one isn’t a very flattering shape like quite low?

She also offered threading which I said no to because I hate threading (the last time I had it done was awful) but there was no attempt to even pluck at some of the uneven bits.

They looked ok in the salon but now I’m home I’m just not sure.

I have a wedding next week and I’m panicking!

Am I being unreasonable here?

HELP PLEASE Protruding eyes

Hello!

I’ve always struggled with makeup application. I don’t wear foundation, usually just blush, peach corrector, and mascara. Sometimes a winged eyeliner looks good and some days it makes my eyes look horrible.

I’m girly on the inside, but you wouldn’t tell because I have no idea how to do my makeup or style myself. I really want to look more put together. I’ve purchased a bunch of eye makeup and have no idea how to mark it work. I always look like a raccoon or cave man but I think it’s due to my eye shape or eyebrow ridge shape.

My general concerns:

- eyes that pop out and aren’t flush/elongated on my facial profile

- heavy brow

- feeling like my face looks masculine

- dark lips and no clear lip line. I’m not sure if I need to wear lip liner

- i want pink lips, but when I wear a lip color I feel like a kid with spaghetti stains around my mouth (anyone else?? 😭)

Tips and feedback are much appreciated ā¤ļø any low-hanging fruit I should take action on??? What colors? Techniques?? Anything!! I don’t want to feel like I look like a man. Thank you!

HELP PLEASE How to apply pencil lipliner?

I have relatively thin lips and a sort of undefined lipline, and whenever I try to use pencil liners, it looks like a drunk toddler did it. (See visual aid below.) I do better with the creamier automatic kind, but I have this one pencil I was hoping I could figure out. Thanks for any advice!
