I started learning to draw about 5 years ago. Thought this comparison was neat

Post image

At the age of 39 I decided to learn to draw, specifically faces and portraits. Lots of ups and downs and hundreds of drawings between these two. Some better and some maybe not, but I thought I would share these two since they are similar enough. Small improvements over time have kept me going and interested. It’s hard to find time to draw every day at my current age and lifestyle but have tried to be as consistent as I can.

Question Why does she not look chinese ?

Thumbnail

Ive been trying to draw this chinese woman from a reference photo, but she just does not "look chinese" like the woman in the picture.

I included the reference.

Like i know the woman in the picture has her eyes open and looks down instead. And i know I lowk messed up the mouth. Its whatever. I just want to know why she looks more middle eastern or sum, and not chinese at all 😭

Edit: Note: i have already made some changes based of people's feedback. But ofcourse i am open on feedback on that too!! thank you to everyone who took the time out of their day to give me advice and tips! It really is much appreciated!

And a thanks to the people who gave me compliments on my drawing skills. You guys are too kind! Ive never had these types of compliments from fellow artists and art loves :p i am blushing

I will revisit the drawing again tomorrow and try to remember to post an update in the comments. But I want to say that you guys have been extremely helpful!

Hey fellas! Ruined a few ole drawings, just wondering how I can preserve my next ones! I believe there’s a spray folks use but isnt that for stuff you’re framing? Not stuff you’re constantly opening?! Once again sorry if not the right format/truly dumb question!

Just Sharing I should focus on how to draw an actual koi first before I try doing anything relatively complicated to it 😂

I deem this a new hybrid!... banana-koi-ghost fish? 😂

This was just a quick one, I need to practice the actual koi first so critique isn't necessary but welcome. 😁

Just Sharing Inktober Day 21- Hero

Today's challenge is dedicated to Bioware, with the sad news of their closure. Dragon Age and Mass Effect were foundational games for my younger brother and I, and I will always carry those stories with me to commemorate the work of all those talented people who were part of this organization...

Just Sharing 1 month drawing improvement

I basically started inktober as a personal challenge, I did not draw from and eternity and I tought It could be fun to do all the month.

I rushed a Little the days,however I think somehow i improved...

However I noticed that now It seems I got some regression... And i am losing the 'magic' so i want to restart from the real basics.

These are the improvements (day 2 vs day 31 vs)

Critique 36, Just a little over 1 month of drawing, sharing progress and looking for advice

Hello!

I started drawing just last month at 36 with no previous experience, mostly following Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.

It has been a great resource for me, since even the simplest doodles were a challenge before.

Currently my biggest challenge is proportions. While I do try and take measurements using my pencil as a guide, it always seems to take several tries with a lot of erasing until I can get the proportions right.

Anyway, just sharing my progress and looking for any advice/pointers for getting better!

Thanks!

I messed up the full figure because I wanted to finish quickly, but that’s the result I gave him. For free of course.
I’m proud because this looks closer to what I feel JoJo’s is, at least in the mangas. Closer, not fully there yet.

Month 2 complete: Progression update

Now Day 60.

For my monthly finishing art, I redrew my Doctor Doom piece from Day 30.

This month, I focused on value and background; doing studies on environment objects, ribbons, silhouettes, terrain, 4th and 5th POV, emotions, and organic shapes. I also noticed massive improvement from what I did in month 1 especially on faces, mannequin posing, and hair. C52's weeks 4 to 7 were also done.

With most of the fundamentals tackled and improved on, I believe I'm ready for the next big step, also being the main focus for Month 3 --- Rendering.

What are your thoughts on my progress?

Pic 1: Day 60 drawing

Pic 2: Day 30 drawing

Pics 3–6: Weeks 4–8; end of week challenge.

Remaining pics: other studies/practices.

Just Sharing Proko art course

I’m finally taking drawing seriously after years of wanting to do so. I bought the how to draw basics art course from proko this week and I’m shocked at how different my drawings look now. I still have a long way to go of course, but I’m so surprised that I can’t sketch things that look somewhat similar to the reference!

When you look at these you can tell I have issues with proportion and texture, as well as shading(which is why I left most of them unshaded😭).

If you look at these and want to give me any tips I’m totally thankful!

Just Sharing Rendering with graphite

Post image

I've been getting better at rendering with graphite lately, all thanks to this tool named "Fumino" I call it "Fuminoli" in English it's called "blending stump" or something like that, it's literally just a small cylinder of compacted paper that you rub on the paper to spread the graphite, but for me it was a revolution, I still have a lot to learn, by no means I'm an expert or anything. Do you use this tool? Or do you have something you want to share about it? I would be happy to hear you out.

Should I continue practicing more on the body?

I really want to continue to some simple muscles and anatomy, but my body sketches are inconsistent, the bodies are usually wrong in proportions, and I still feel intimidating drawing body in perspective and hard angles. Should I continue practicing or move on to the anatomy?
