Showcase Kitchen knives with my new beltgrinder.
Some test pieces to see what the new machine can do. It’s a polish 2x72 with VFD. I have installed water cooling for the extra freshness. Carbide platen to follow soon.
Steel is 1.2842, with a pretty maximalist heat treat. Austenising hot and then cryo for the retained austenite. Ground basically to zero with a compound grind. Wood is desert iron wood and one piece of stabilised burl.

Showcase First Post and second kitchen knife.
Hey guys I’m kind of new to knife making and wanted to share this kitchen knife here. I messed up the handle but all in all I’m mostly happy how it turned out. Please feel free to comment and criticize.
Also excuse my bad Englisch.

Work in progress Update on my 1st knife…
I’ve been building this chef knife for my father’s 80th birthday. He’s visiting for Thanksgiving, so I’m trying to finish up…I got bogged down in the sanding, got it to a 320 grit after several hours and just wasn’t happy with progress. I need more practice…
Anyway, I decided to do a mustard patina to give it some character. Here it is after three hours.
Design by me. 1084 stock removal, heat treated and tempered by me. Olive wood scales, brass pins with a custom beaver pin. Guess all I have left is sharpening! And maybe mustard patina on the tang…

Question BRLW METEORITENDAMAST: How Is This Damask Pattern Achieved?
I was browsing the Böker store today, looking for some inspiration.
That's when I noticed this knife made of meteorite damask steel. My question:
How would you achieve a pattern like that?
It looks like canister damask. But how are these specific shapes achieved? Are those small cubes and steel powder? Or are there rods running through the entire canister, with the gaps filled with steel powder?
I’d love to hear your ideas. Thanks in advance!

Question Mirror finish Ti suggestions?
So I customize metal knife scales/blades with patinas, textures, finishes, & anodizing on Ti… stuff like that.
I have been doing them all by hand going from 200 all the way to 5000 and then doing two flitz’ sometimes three to get it as close to mirror as possible…
I could afford a cheap bench/belt sanding & polishing setup, or I could go with the parts to do it with a drill.
Looking for feedback on which is better & maybe some suggestions on EXACTLY which tools I want. I see some $75 Harbor Freights and some nicer maybe $200 setups for bench top. I feel like I’m better off to just go ahead and buy the all-in-one but then again I don’t know how much the belts are for them and all of that etc. etc..
I’m not looking to spend a whole time, but I am looking to spend 100 or 200 bucks to get a nice set out that will significantly decrease the amount of time and effort I put into refinishing metal by hand

Question how to finish denim mikarta?
Hey all
I was given some Demin Mikarta. I was planning to use it as a spacer in my handle, but not really certain if there is a way to best finish the edges. I assume I can just belt then hand sand.
I typically use G10 for spacers which is pretty easy to finish
Appreciate it.
