I have an iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd gen, Wi-Fi, 256GB), which I bought in 2020.
I mainly use it for web browsing, watching Apple TV, and playing games with simple graphics (Rusty Lake, for example). I also take it with me on occasional trips because it’s convenient for looking up restaurants, reading reviews, and researching places to visit.

Overall, I’m still happy with its features and performance when it works properly, but there are two reasons I’m considering an upgrade:
It’s been acting up lately. Sometimes it lags, the screen goes completely black with a spinning circle in the middle, and it takes a while to respond. Even when I turn it on, it sometimes takes a long time to start up, with the same spinning circle. I’m not sure whether this is a sign that it’s getting old or whether it could be fixed without replacing it.
I’m travelling to Japan this autumn. The euro is currently quite strong against the yen, and I may be able to get a tax-free purchase, so I’m wondering whether this would be a good opportunity to upgrade if it makes sense to do so.

I currently use the Apple Smart Keyboard that was available when I bought the iPad. It doesn’t have a trackpad, and I actually prefer it that way. I don’t really need a trackpad, and the newer Magic Keyboard is considerably more expensive. Having a keyboard attached to the cover is convenient, though, so I’d like to keep that setup if possible.

I’ve tried generic keyboard cases without a trackpad, but they didn’t work very well. I haven’t been able to find a current Apple keyboard case that offers the same kind of setup as my old Smart Keyboard, either.

So, what would you recommend?
Should I upgrade, or would it be worth trying to fix my current iPad first?
If I do upgrade, would an iPad Air be sufficient for my needs, or would a Pro make more sense?
Given how I use my iPad, which generation and storage capacity would you recommend?
Are there any good keyboard cases without a trackpad that you’d recommend?

I don’t need a particularly powerful iPad for professional work or demanding games. I’d rather not spend more than necessary on features I won’t use, but I’d like something reliable that will last for several years.

I just read online that some screen protectors ruin the performance of the laminated screen, making it completely useless for drawing.

What’s the oldest Apple device you still use?

Mine is a first-generation iPad mini, the 16GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model introduced in 2012, still running iOS 9.3.6.

My two kids have used it since they were little. It has seen hundreds, probably thousands, of hours of games and YouTube, mostly YouTube. For years, it was switched on for at least 10 hours a day.

I jailbroke it and disabled plenty of unnecessary background services and features. The regular YouTube app is no longer supported, so these days we only use YouTube Kids.
Somehow, the battery still lasts a full day. That honestly amazes me.

My iPhone 6 lasted 8 years, while my iPhone 11 is now at around 80% battery health after just 6 years.

Meanwhile, I’m happy if my iPhone 17 makes it through a normal day of scrolling Reddit, messaging and bit of streaming without reaching a critically low battery level.

I am looking for purple color. But could not find a purple ipad with 256 gb. Should I settle for the 128 gb just for the color?

Recently upgraded to iPad OS 27.0.1 and facing issue on iMovies.

Whenever i try to add audio file from files location to the project, tapping the file doesnt add it! Nothing happens. Although if i add via “file>recents>audio file” then it adds.. but its a longer way and not what i am used to.

Anybody else also facing same issue after upgrade?

My iPad Air won’t go past 1% even if it’s on the charger. When it turns off it flashes a pink screen and repeats the cycle. Any idea what this might be?

Only 36 battery cycles

Apple warranty until June 2027

So now I've spent the last few days poking at iPadOS, trying emulators, controllers, USB storage, Apple Arcade, sideloading, and repeatedly swiping at the screen expecting Android's Back gesture to save me.

Apple and I are currently negotiating that last one.

The most annoying part?

I kinda like the damn thing.

I still don't know what it's going to do that the approximately 47 other electronic devices in my house can't already do, but for $217.50 I feel like I committed legal robbery.

So, r/iPad: what should an Android heathen install/do next to properly justify this completely unnecessary purchase?

My iPad randomly decides my fingers aren’t good enough I guess. It’s completely random and usually fixes itself in about 30 seconds (you can see in the video it started working again, but I only started filming after it had been happening for like 15 seconds.) it sometimes decides to only register one finger, and sometimes it doesn’t register my touch at all and I have to use my Apple Pencil to do anything on the iPad, not just drawing. This is really annoying for many reasons but especially drawing because every two minutes or so I’m unable to zoom in, color pick, etc.

Anyone else have this?

I have about 202 GB free. Is there any way to free up storage? Going back to iPadOS 2.6 is no longer possible, right?

Have had for about 7 months. Just use at home surfing the web and emails, 2 hours of use per day. Don’t have any of the 80% limit turned on but seems like much faster degradation than I’ve had with other iPads or iPhones. Is this normal?

I have a 9th generation, previously refurbished ipad. No damage at all! I used it for about a year with a screen protector for my masters program. It works great! But I graduated and passed my board exam!

I have an iPad Air M2 (2024) with a cracked screen, and I’m planning to visit the Apple Genius Bar tomorrow to get it serviced under AppleCare+.
I’ve heard that Apple used to replace the entire iPad instead of repairing just the screen. However, I’m wondering if this is still the case in 2026, especially for the iPad Air M2.

A few questions:

1. Does Apple still offer whole-device replacements for the iPad Air M2, or do they now repair just the cracked screen?

2. Has anyone recently had their iPad Air M2 serviced under AppleCare+? What was your experience?

3. If Apple replaces the entire device, is it guaranteed to be the same colour and storage configuration?

4. Can I request a whole-device replacement instead of a screen repair?

I’d personally prefer a full-device replacement, so I’m curious about other people’s recent experiences.

Thinking of canceling my iPhone Duo order and waiting to see if a new iPad mini comes out soon.

This morning I saw a post by Mac Rumors saying Apple accidentally posted on their French regulatory site the new iPad mini folio for an unreleased iPad mini model.

I unfortunately got a Dec 7 shipping window for my duo order.

Also, as I’ve been walking around and living life, I frequently find myself wondering how I’d use the Duo and how often I would unfold the phone when I’m not home.

I also loved my iPad mini 6 that I traded in ahead of the duo release.

So now I’m debating on whether to cancel my duo order and see what iPad mini comes out?

I guess the later shipping window I got also gives me a chance to see if there are any major issues with the duo like a fragile inner screen, etc

I hate the magic keyboard. Unfortunately it's the only option Apple gives us for the M5 iPad Pro. I mean I still bought one, but I don't like it. Walking around an airport in a half drunk jetlagged stupor, I walked into to one of those overpriced electronics stores. Much to my surprise they had an OG keyboard folio on final closeout. Based on nothing but a feeling of hope, whimsy, and desperation I bought it. No surprise it didn't work my M5 pro, so I decided to try the M4 air. Amazon to the rescue. I am very happy to report the M4 air, despite not being officially supported, works just fine. Now my tablet can stop pretending to be something it's not and just be happy with being a tablet again.

So this is an iPad A16 and I just wanted to know if my Battery Health is good. I thought it would go to 99 by like 50 but it didn’t!!

I wonder if anyone can help me with this issue.

I’ve been using X for a while on my iPad and the Home Screen has always looked like the first image. This is how I like it. However now when I start X I’m greeted by the second image, very sparse, can’t find anything. It’s strange because if I delete the app and reinstall it it reverts back to the original Home Screen. If I then close the app and reopen it loads the second unwanted menu screen.

There's very little options to change the Home Screen format so I’m at a loss what’s going on.
Any help would be much appreciated.

So i have some money saved up, and im planning to get a part time job, and ive wanted an ipad since last year. I got a laptop from my school, though its pretty much payed off atp so i think its mine now? its not the best but it works fine, so idk if its dumb to buy an ipad (gen 10, 64gb refusbished)

I see people using ipads at school so i dont think my school has any issues with it, but idk if all teachers would be ok with me taking notes on it, maybe? i think so, exept maybe maths or and physics. Ofc I also want to use it outside of school, its lighter than having to drag my big laptop around everywhere.

I also wanted to buy one of those cases that turns your ipad into a laptop (doest have to be apple), and a apple pencil.

so i think the full set up could cost me like 500 euros if i get the cheaper options, so a refusbished ipad and pencil, and a non apple case

I will install ksing on the iPad to install the ipa file. But I have a problem that my iPad is an Air 3 model, which still needs to use the home button, but I can't use it. When the device starts again, it has to press the home button to confirm the profile. I don't know what to do. Is there a way? (not pc)
