IT_Career Final-year IIIT student, solved 500+ DSA problems but still unplaced. What should I do now?

Title: Final-year IIIT student, solved 500+ DSA problems but still unplaced. What should I do now?

Hi everyone,

I'm a final-year B.Tech CSE student at IIIT Agartala, and I'm looking for some honest advice regarding my placement situation.

My qualifications: - B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIIT Agartala. - Solved 500+ DSA problems and have a good understanding of data structures and algorithms. - Knowledge of web development, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, Express, and MongoDB. - Built projects to gain practical development experience. - Completed a group internship where I contributed to frontend development using React.

Despite these efforts, I'm still unplaced through my college placements. I've also applied to 100+ companies off-campus, but unfortunately, I haven't received many responses or interview opportunities.

I'm trying to understand where I might be going wrong. Should I focus more on DSA, improve my projects, work on my resume, learn additional technologies, or change my job application strategy?

I'd appreciate advice from people who have faced a similar situation, are currently working in the industry, or have experience hiring freshers.

  1. What should I prioritize at this stage to improve my chances of getting placed?
  2. How can I get more interview calls from off-campus applications?
  3. Should I focus exclusively on software development roles, or also apply for data analyst roles?
  4. How important are deployed projects and a strong GitHub profile for getting shortlisted?
  5. What helped you land your first job when you weren't getting responses to applications?

I'm willing to put in the work and improve wherever necessary. I'd genuinely appreciate practical suggestions and honest feedback on what I should do differently.

Thanks in advance!

Pharmacy I'm confused about whether I should go for a master's in CH

• Upvotes

Myquals: B.pharm

Hi! I'm a 2nd-year pharmacy undergrad, and I wanna pursue chem engineering for my master's. And I've been looking for some online courses for GATE, but i can't really find good ones for chemical engineering. So could anyone help?

Ps. I have ICT Mumbai specifically in mind, and I was looking for some non-GATE ways to get into it, and it showed GPAT. Is GPAT a good and efficient (?) way to get into ICT? Other than that, what are some other institutes that would be good for ChE

Career Advice regarding research internship at IIT Bombay

myquals: I am a second year computer science student and just got the confirmation of my selection for a remote research internship at IIT Bombay.

So I don't really have much idea about how these internships work but although the one I got is under a prof yet it's mostly being handled by his phd student so my interaction with the prof would be very very limited which is fine by me as long as I am getting an opportunity to learn but still this brings me to a question

Is this normal for such internships?

I also wanted your opinion about how fruitful will this internship would be for me in the future? ( sorry if this question sounds dumb )

If someone wants some additional details about the internship so that it helps answering better let me know!

Thank You

Career Running out of time... Need to take up a career opt soon

So I'm 20M from Chennai pursuing B.E. Mech, in which I have zero interest and conceptual knowledge after coming into the 3rd year. I just have 1 year left to choose my career...
All these years I had thought of entering IT thru non-coding jobs such as UI/UX or something... But lately I had this issue with my eye and I hope I can't have a career with constantly infront of a monitor. Hence I can't choose IT as well as core for placement... Btw I'm building a startup in sideways that's highly risky and not a sure-shot hit. I have been interested in these YouTube channels (Think School, Aevy TV, Full Disclosure, and more similar types iykyk ) for a few years for their content ... Also I want it to be a more socializing environment (Since I wanna come out of my comfort zone) Ofc most importantly it should be a good and high paying career
So ik I have given my requirements like searching for a bride in a matrimony but yeah that's my case ... so suggest me w options (Which higher edu + what career after that) ... You are welcome to suggest something better than myquals too

IT_Career Placement systems seem to run on freshers' fear of not getting placed. What did your college or institute actually give you?

I worked with an institution as an instructor, which gave me a look behind the scenes of how college and institute placements work, and one thing has stuck with me.

From what I saw, 70 to 80 percent of the students these systems run on end up getting almost nothing out of them. I think a big reason they still get the traffic is fear: freshers are scared of not getting placed in a market where more is expected from learners every year, so they sign up for whatever promises a way in.

What bugged me most is that knowledge isn't the problem. DSA, SQL, interview questions, roadmaps: almost everything is already on the internet. It's just scattered, nobody tests you on it, and nobody tells you where you stand.

Full disclosure, I'm the founder of a project called JBattle that tries to put that in one place with AI and a learner community. I'm not going to turn this into an ad, I'm more curious about your side of it.

For those who went through placements recently:

- What did your college or institute actually give you?

- What would have helped you most: mock interviews, a roadmap, someone telling you where you stand?

my_qualifications: I worked with an institution as an instructor and saw its placement process behind the scenes. Founder of JBattle, a placement-prep platform.

Research Top neuroscience degree opportunities in India (Industry/research)

Hi all, looking for some input from people who've made a similar move or who work in these fields in India.

Some background (keeping names out for privacy):

BSc in Pharmacology from a university ranked in the global top 25.

Held research positions in three large labs during undergrad, and worked with the country's national health system

Qualifications:

MRes in Neuroscience from a top 5 university globally (think Oxford, Harvard, Stanford, Cambridge etc)

Healthcare internship at a Big Four firm

Currently a researcher in spinal cord and traumatic brain injury at one of the largest and most well known academic hospital networks in North America

I'm tired of the immigration headaches and the constant uncertainty that comes with them.

I want to move back, settle in India, and hopefully build something long term here.

I'm open to medical affairs (MSL or similar), pharma and biotech, or research, either academic or industry. The main condition is that the pay has to justify the move.

A few questions:

What is the actual state of these fields in India right now? Is there real demand for someone with this profile?

What compensation should I realistically expect? A ballpark in LPA would really help.

Which companies or cities should I be looking at? Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, somewhere else?

Do foreign degrees and research experience actually count for much here, or does Indian industry care more about local experience?

The other option on the table: I have a PhD offer in neuroscience at a university ranked in the global top 25. Would a PhD meaningfully raise my ceiling in India, or am I better off starting in industry now?

Any advice, personal experience, or reality checks are appreciated. Thanks!

Career I'm 23, unemployed, have 17 backlogs, and regret the opportunities I've lost. I honestly don't know what to do with my life.

Hey everyone,

I'm 23 years old, and I honestly don't know where my life is heading. I've been keeping a lot of things to myself, and I feel like I need to let them out somewhere.

I'm a 12th-pass guy who enrolled in graduation, but I ended up with 17 backlogs. My pass-out year was 2025, and now I don't even feel interested in clearing those backlogs anymore. I'm thinking about pursuing an open degree or doing ITI instead, but I'm confused about whether I'm making the right decision.

Currently, I'm unemployed and spend almost my entire day at home. My parents go out to work every day, and we live in a small rented room that costs ₹2,200 per month. It's not a big place, but we adjust to what we have.

The hardest part is watching my parents work hard while I'm unable to contribute financially. I want to support them and make their lives easier, but I don't even know where to start with my own life.

One of my biggest regrets is that when I was in the second year of my degree, I got selected for India Post GDS based on my 10th-grade merit. It was a government job opportunity, but I never joined.

Sometimes I keep thinking about that decision and wondering how different my life would be today if I had joined. Maybe I would have been earning, helping my parents, and feeling more confident about myself. I know I can't change the past, but I still regret it.

I've also tried preparing for government exams, but I struggle to concentrate. I make plans to study, but I can't maintain consistency, and another day goes by without making any real progress.

I'm around 5'2" and weigh 48 kg. I know height and weight aren't everything, but I sometimes feel insecure about myself and compare my life with other people my age.

Another thing that bothers me is that I'm very sensitive. When someone scolds me, criticizes me, or says something bad about me, it affects me deeply. I keep replaying their words in my mind, and sometimes it takes me days to get over them.

I've also become very quiet and withdrawn. I don't talk much anymore, and I find it difficult to express what I'm feeling.

I want to change. I want to develop skills, get a job, earn money, become independent, and support my parents. But I'm scared of making another wrong decision and regretting it later.

Right now, I'm considering three options:

Getting a private job and preparing for government exams alongside it.

Pursuing an open degree and trying to complete my education.

Doing ITI and learning a practical skill that could help me find employment.

I genuinely don't know which direction to choose.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

If you were 23, unemployed, had 17 graduation backlogs, and felt like you had wasted important opportunities, what would you do first?

Would you focus on earning money, completing your education, learning a trade, or preparing for government exams?

And if you've ever struggled with low confidence, overthinking, or feeling hurt by other people's words, how did you overcome it?

I'm not looking for sympathy or empty motivational quotes. I want honest advice from people who have faced setbacks and managed to rebuild their lives.

I don't want to look back five years from now and feel the same regret I'm feeling today.

My qualifications: I have completed 12th grade and enrolled in graduation, but I currently have 17 backlogs. My pass-out year was 2025. I'm considering an open degree or ITI and would appreciate advice on which path to choose.

Thank you for reading.

CSE/ECE How are BTech students actually getting internships?

Hey everyone!

I'm a pre-final-year CSE (AI & ML) student, and I've been actively applying for internships. However, most of the responses I receive are either emails saying I've been shortlisted, followed by spam calls, or offers asking me to pay for training, mentorship, or placement assistance.

This has been happening repeatedly, and I'm honestly confused about where students are finding genuine internship opportunities.

I'd like to know:

Where do you guys apply for genuine internships?

Which platforms or websites have worked for you?

How can I find paid internships or even unpaid internships that provide real work experience?

Do companies actually hire pre-final-year students directly, and if so, how do you approach them?

I'm willing to learn, work on projects, and improve my skills. I just want to find a genuine opportunity where I can gain practical experience without having to pay to get an internship.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have actually secured internships. Please share your experiences and any tips that helped you!

LifeSciences/Biotech 22 F, I don't know if I am ready for a PhD or not.

Today I might be having my online PhD interview (which i applied) out of sheer peer pressure or passion at this point i don’t know.

I am doing my Master’s in one of the top institutes in India in Bioengineering and yes I am supposed to do PhD because that's what I had been told but i am so uncertain tbh.

I am also interested in the management side of things too. I am very interested in knowing how the research translates to commercial market and how the whole bio-business comes to play. I really want to work in something related to that field and i am still exploring but all of my peers are applying enthusiastically for PhD positions in India as well as Foreign countries because of how certain they are and this gives me a lot of pressure.

How do i figure out my path? I love science a lot and I am curious about a lot of things but i am not sure if I am ready to invest next 5-6 years chasing a question.

Please help me out.

Humanities/SocialScience 25M with Masters in Political Science. It's two years since my Masters. Am I late for the PhD? Read Body Please.

Myquals: MA Political Science from Tier 1 central uni.

I literally don't know where to go so I have come here hoping to get some guidance. Completed my masters in 2025 and since then preparing for UPSC. Gave this year prelims and failed. People who were with me went for PhDs and were doing better (I understand grass is always greener on other side) yet I kept comparing myself with Friends who were doing better and I was chasing that one examination which has no fixed result. Self doubt piles up.

My parents insists that I must prepare. While I don't want to loose any years to this exam. Lately I am thinking to go seriously for the JRF this December and enroll in PhD. Is starting PhD at 25 late? Also I am thinking to get into IIT. If anyone has any experience with IIT HSS PhD please ask me to DM you. It will be great help. I don't know how things will unfold but at this point my confidence has hit rock bottom. Little financial stability and sense of meaning would help greatly.

Please share your experiences and any suggestions or ideas are most welcome!

I have been going through a lot recently at a personal level but that's not the point.

PhD What are my realistic chances of getting into a good PhD programme in the EU?

I am considering applying for PhD programmes in the EU, but I am unsure whether my profile is competitive enough to get into a good programme.

My qualifications:

  • MSc from IIT Delhi: CGPA of 7.5/10.
  • Two conference acceptances at national-level conferences in India.
  • A first-author preprint on PsyArXiv (OSF).
  • Six months of experience as a research assistant at IIM Ahmedabad.
  • An ongoing remote research collaboration with a professor at King's College London. We have preregistered the study on OSF and are currently drafting a paper based on our research.
  • Potential letters of recommendation from four professors, all of whom I have approached.
  • Experience working as a research associate with startups in my field, along with several other research projects.
  • A good number of positions of responsibility (PoRs), although I am unsure how relevant these are to PhD admissions.

My main concern is whether my academic record is strong enough for admission to a good PhD programme in the EU. In particular, I am worried about my relatively low CGPA. I also failed two courses in my first semester, although I subsequently retook and passed both with an A grade.

I am considering applying to MSCA Doctoral Networks and other PhD positions. However, I also have offers for research assistant positions at prestigious institutes in India.

Given my current profile, would it be sensible to start applying for PhD positions now, or would I be better off taking another RA position to strengthen my research profile before applying abroad?

I would really appreciate honest and realistic feedback, particularly from people familiar with PhD admissions in Europe.

Thank you!

Hey

myquals :Class 12

I gave neet 3 times .This year I couldn't even score 300.I got admission into bsc nursing govt college in WB this year.I also got bsc nursing college previous year but didn't go due to NEET.

I have been feeling sick since mid-last 2025.My mom refused to go to the dr as she said nothing is wrong with me.This year late Aug 2026 I got diagnosed with Lung Tuberculosis.

My dad has told me to prepare for neet next year.I wanted to do it initially as I know I couldn't study well cuz of sickness. But now I feel really terrible and alone .

Not to mention relatives body shaming me left and right & my mom adding to it.

My classes started from early Sept.I have total of 3 hrs of journey to go to my college via train.I feel sick & didn't want to go to college but was forced cuz of my mom. They forced me to go I also forced myself initially as I didn't want to be stuck at home but I stopped going from 28th Sept as it was physically and mentally draining for me.I went 2 days in between but now have decided to join college after Durga Puja vacation.

On 14th Oct she forced me to go to college again and accompanied me.She went to principal and coordinator lying that I have breathing problems.

This was the last straw for me after she left I told my coordinator truth. They called and bashed her fyi she is a nurse.

My teachers seemed irritated & disliked me.Idk what to do

My classmates knows about my situation now.Idk how will I have friends there.

My parents treated me badly after i informed my college.

I don't have anyone to talk to.

How will I get through this situation?

Rn I hate everything about my life.

I just cry everyday.

Does anyone know what to do ?

If anyone knows any sub that can help let me know

IT_Career how to be happy with what we have? I got an tech internship at a mid/below avg mnc

Hi gng, a usual 20M (myquals: final year btech student at a tier 1 clg) here. I’m stuck in a mental loop: when I succeed at something, I think "it's just mid, nothing special" but when I fail at something, I think "I'm totally worthless."

I just got an oncampus tech internship. It’s decent, but compared to my friends landing bigger roles, it feels pretty mid. For the last three years, I spent most of my time exploring things I actually love (some creative hobbies, doesnt matter to this post) and did a little substance abuse instead of properly studying for the grades.

Now, I feel like I wasted my entire college life. I keep thinking that if I planned better or tried harder, I could've gotten way better. Since I'm locked out of (cant apply for) other oncampus roles, I’m stressing hard over whether this offer is even useful in today's market.

I overthink constantly and feel like I'm losing my happiness. Seeing everyone around me score better makes me feel offscene (prolly jealousy or i feel the lost potential)

honestly what do I do, how do I just be happy with what I got?

Engineering 2nd year ECE student from a tier 69 college — what are the actual steps to get an internship by the end of 2026?

Hey guys, I’m currently in 2nd year, 3rd semester, from a tier 69 💀 college. I’m from ECE and honestly have only a little knowledge of CS/software stuff right now. Currently I’m doing: DSA: Striver’s A2Z/DSA Sheet Development: FreeCodeCamp Trying to build up my CS fundamentals alongside this My goal is to somehow land a software/AI internship by the end of 2026, preferably at a FAANG/FANG company or at least a decent MNC/product-based company. But I’m honestly confused about what I’m actually supposed to do beyond DSA + development. Like, what does the actual roadmap look like? Should I be doing: DSA → how much is enough? CS fundamentals → OS, DBMS, CN, OOP? Development → frontend/backend/full stack? 2–3 serious projects? Open source? Hackathons? LeetCode contests? Networking/referrals? Research? Internships at smaller companies first? Anything else? And when should I start applying? Should I already be applying in 2nd year, or wait until I have more skills? I’m not looking for a “learn DSA and make projects bro” answer 😭. I want to know the actual steps people took to go from basically knowing very little → getting interviews → actually landing a Big Tech/MNC internship. If you were in my position right now, what would you do from September 2026 to December 2026? Any brutally honest advice would be appreciated. Mannn I just want to know what I’m supposed to do 😭 myquals

Other Can people who has participated in Science Academies' SRFP share their experiences?

Myquals: 2nd Year Integrated MSc

My doubts are that how deep of research would we do there? (I am struggling to phrase it) For example my interests are in extreme events, meteorology, climate change, oscillations, atmosphere-ocean dynamics, natural disasters, etc. If I apply for this fellowship in the mentioned-above topics, what kind of work would I be expected to do? I know the basic science in the topics I mentioned and am currently reading up on textbooks and research papers to advance my knowledge. So far what I have is theory, and some python. What else would I need to be prepared for the work I'd be required to do there, assuming I'm selected? I think many students would benefit from the experiences of those who attended the program. Thanks in advance.
