r/GamingLaptops now has its own deals site — RGL.deals launches today BETA

UPDATE — August 13, 2026

rgl.deals has grown a bit since I originally posted, so I wanted to give this post a update while it's still in BETA.

The idea is still simple: instead of showing you hundreds of gaming laptops, RGL keeps a smaller shortlist of deals that are actually worth considering.

Every listing is manually checked, with things like price, specs, cooling, display quality, GPU power limits, memory, storage, and overall value taken into account.

A lot of care has also gone into the smaller details. The site is heavily optimized for phones and smaller screens, not just desktop. Filters, comparisons, laptop pages, navigation, and general usability were all designed to work properly on mobile without feeling like a cut-down version of the site.

What's on the site now:

  • Curated gaming laptop deals with current and previous prices.
  • Filters for price, GPU, CPU, VRAM, RAM, screen size, brand, retailer, and more.
  • Gravity Sort, RGL's default value-based ranking.
  • Sorting by price, discount, savings, and other options.
  • Find a Match for narrowing down laptops based on what actually matters to you.
  • Side-by-side comparison for up to three laptops.
  • Detailed laptop pages with specs, price history, related models, retailer links, and review links.
  • Shareable searches, comparisons, and direct laptop links.
  • Mobile-first layouts and controls designed specifically for smaller screens.
  • No advertising trackers or marketing cookies. Preferences and saved comparisons stay in your browser.

RGL is meant to be a shortlist, not a giant catalog. If a laptop isn't worth recommending, it doesn't need to be there and that means no huge lists its quality over quantity.

The longer-term plan is also bigger than just deals. RGL is being built into a broader gaming laptop specific place with guides, buying information, laptop data, reviews, and other useful resources all in one place.

Full transparency: Some retailer links are affiliate links. That doesn't affect the listed price or determine which laptops make the shortlist.

RGL currently covers U.S. deals only, with more regions planned later.

It's still beta, so there will be bugs and things that need improving. If you find something broken or have feedback, leave it below any suggestions would be much appreciated thanks.

Discussion After cleaning and repasting Lenovo Legion 5 Pro the GPU Score increased by +43%

Hey guys, wanted to share some real-world benchmark data from a maintenance job I just finished:

https://youtu.be/Jz4oQcztXEg?si=m3KcuOEcL9Cfj-SR

The Results:

  • CPU Temps: Dropped from 100°C down to ~80°C under heavy load (-20°C drop).
  • GPU Score: Increased by +43% in synthetic benchmarks once throttling stopped.
  • DaVinci Resolve 4K Export: Significantly faster render times and zero timeline lag.

I made a detailed teardown and benchmark video covering the whole process and thermal charts if anyone wants to see the step-by-step or exact numbers.

Discussion Lenovo Legion Pro 7i (5090 32 GB Ram) VS. Legion Lenovo Pro 7 (5080 64 GB Ram) VS. Asus ROG Strix Scar 16

Subject line says it all, been using my current laptop for work while traveling and gaming on the side. Looking to get a little more into gaming on the laptop vs. sitting at my desk on my desktop after a long day of work. Looking forward to next month’s release of GTAVI. Been bouncing between both the Lenovo Legion Pro 7(i) and the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16, although it is hard to get your hands on the Asus as of late around me. Also, seen the two deals pop up that are shown in the photos.

Question #1: Lenovo Legion Pro 7(i) VS. Asus ROG Strix Scar 16

Question #2: If Lenovo, which option form the two in the photos is best? I am lucky enough to live very close to a Microcenter.

Discussion DDR5-6400 CL52 vs DDR5-5600 CL40: why the bigger number isn't the whole comparison

• Upvotes

A useful check when comparing laptop RAM upgrades: MT/s tells you the transfer rate, while CL is a delay measured in clock cycles. You need both to compare the CAS part of latency.

CAS delay in nanoseconds = CL x 2000 / MT/s

DDR5-6400 CL52: 52 x 2000 / 6400 = 16.25 ns

DDR5-5600 CL40: 40 x 2000 / 5600 = about 14.29 ns

So the 6400 kit has a higher transfer rate, but the 5600 CL40 kit has a shorter CAS delay at those settings. Neither calculation tells you which will give better FPS: this isn't total system memory latency, and other timings, capacity, the memory controller and the workload matter.

For a laptop, check the CPU's supported memory speeds as well as the exact laptop's BIOS and RAM compatibility. An XMP rating isn't a promise that your BIOS supports that profile. I'd check compatibility before paying for the bigger MT/s number.

Support Bought a laptop stand for my Lenovo LOQ, but it blocks the vents. Go back to using a book or can I fix this somehow?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Just got the Portronics My Buddy K11 stand, and as you can see, the solid metal frame covers almost the entire left and right intake vents on the bottom of my LOQ, while the cutout sits over the solid plastic.

Before this, I used to just prop the back of the laptop up with a book, which actually did the job quite neatly and left the vents completely open.

Should I just return this and go back to the book method, or is there a simple way to make this stand work better?

Would also appreciate recommendations for a stand that actually clears the LOQ's vents!

Recommendation Acer Predator Helios 16s vs Legion 5i OLED

Post image
7 Upvotes

Budget: $1350

Country: Philippines

Use Case: Gaming — Esports, AAA & Work, Editing, Graphic Artist

Preferred Specs: RTX 5060, 1tb storage

Notes:

So I’m planning to upgrade my current laptop, and I’m torn between the Acer Predator and Lenovo Legion. Both have an RTX 5060, OLED display, 16GB RAM, and 1TB storage. The main difference is the CPU. The Predator has the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, while the Legion has the Intel Core i7-14700HX.

I’ll mainly be using it for work, especially Adobe Illustrator with a pen display. I also have an ultrawide 1440p monitor that I’ll be using for gaming.

Both laptops are priced the same at a local dealer. I really like the Legion, but I’m wondering if the Ultra 9 is worth choosing over the i7-14700HX in terms of performance.

Which one would you guys go for? And for those who’ve used either CPU, how’s the real-world performance?

Discussion You are given $6,000 dollars to pick any laptop brand/model of your choice, which brand do you pick and why?

This isn’t a budget question or spec question, it’s a question of you are basically given the freedom to choose your make and model of your choice.

For example, do you go with a Lenovo Legion because of the aluminum design and superior cooling capability while getting all the performance out of your GPU as possible?

Do you go with the ASUS ROG because of the sturdier frame yet compatibility of it, even though you sacrifice some GPU to account for the mobility?

Your choice boys, go

Deal [Help] Lenovo Legion 5i for $2,499.99 CAD at Best Buy – good deal or wait for Black Friday?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a new gaming laptop and found this one at Best Buy Canada. It's listed as $700 off, but I'm not sure if that's a real discount or if I should wait for Black Friday.

Is $2,499.99 a good price for these specs in Canada, or have you seen it cheaper?

Are there any better alternatives?
I'll mainly use it for gaming and media consumption, so an OLED display is a must-have for me. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Task Manager uses your busiest GPU engine for the overall usage number

• Upvotes

Task Manager reports the busiest GPU engine as the overall percentage. It doesn't average the 3D, Copy and Video Encode graphs.

So a high number tells you an engine is busy, but not which one. Open Performance, select the GPU, then click a graph's name to choose the engine you want to inspect. That can make a screenshot much more useful when asking for help with your laptop.

Microsoft explains the choice here:

Recommendation Need help deciding between two ASUS models

• Upvotes

Budget: £2000+-

Country: UK

Use Case: MMORPGs, MOBAs, RPGs, video editing

Preferred Specs / Form Factor: Ideally 17/18in, decent performance

Portability Needs: Desk queen

Notes: Big fan of ASUS, specifically the TUF series

Hello! I've been using an ASUS TUF F17 for years and love it, but it just can't perform anymore and is facing more issues. I am feeling a bit clueless since the last time I put in the research.

I don't play anything graphically intensive, mostly WoW, but it's stuttering there and I would like something to finally play things like BG3, Deadlock and Expedition 33. Mostly play at desk, and do some video editing on occasion too.

There are two deals I'm currently looking at. They seem really similar except for the RAM, is there anything else I'm missing? Are the ROG series generally better?

Option 1 - ASUS TUF A18 - £1894 - AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX - NVidia GeForce RTX 5070 - 16 GB RAM - 1TB SSD

Option 2 - ASUS ROG Strix G18 - £2300 - AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX - NVidia GeForce RTX 5070 - 32 GB RAM - 1TB SSD
