News Lenovo Legion Toolkit v2.36.0.0 Released

Hi everyone!

This is our first post here, so a quick introduction; Lenovo Legion Toolkit (LLT) is a community-developed utility for Lenovo laptops that provides more control over features such as performance modes, GPU behaviour, battery management, thermals, display settings, automation, and other Lenovo-specific functionalities.

We're the team maintaining LLT, and we were kindly given permission to share our releases with the Lenovo Legion community here. We already share releases through this subreddit’s Discord community and our own channels, but we wanted to share the latest release here with the wider Legion community as well.

Release Highlights

  • Dynamic Refresh Rate & ACM: Native Windows 11 DRR support, Auto Color Management (ACM) toggling, and improved HDR support.
  • GPU Voltage Capping & OC: Voltage capping via V/F curve flattening, voltage locking, P-State locking, and Keep dGPU Awake.
  • dGPU Sleep & Power Stability: Fixed sleep/wake loops affecting RTX 50-series GPUs and newer drivers, added GC6 diagnostics, and added Dynamic Boost support for non-Gaming RTX models.
  • AMD Curve Shaper & OC: Overhauled AMD overclocking with Curve Shaper, power/current limits, and multi-power-mode profile support.
  • Customizable Fn + Q Loop: Added an ITS Mode configuration window to reorder or disable Fn + Q modes, along with Geek and Creator mode support for non-Gaming models.
  • Boot Logo & Startup: Redesigned the Boot Logo tool with live preview, animated GIF support, and Startup Animation toggling.
  • Game Detection & Automation: Added Manual Game Detection, an Included Processes whitelist, Time Range triggers, and AI Engine steps.

News Your New Legion: The Essential Setup & Check Guide

Welcome! If you just bought a Legion laptop, follow this guide to set it up, update it, and check that everything works properly.

Keep the box, charger, paperwork, and packaging until the return period has ended.

Some links require access to our community Legion Series Discord.

If you plan on using Linux-based Operating Systems on your Legion hardware the community has created a comprehensive How to guide. We also have a dedicated #linux channel on our discord where you can talk with other linux nerds.

1. Complete Windows Setup — Must

Plug in the charger and complete the normal Windows setup.

You do not need to fully charge or drain the battery before continuing. Just use the laptop normally while it charges.

2. Run Windows Update — Must

Go to: Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates

Install everything required, restart, and check again until no important updates remain.

Keep the laptop connected to power during updates.

3. Update Microsoft Store Apps — Must

Open: Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates

Install all available updates.

4. Set Up Lenovo Software — Must

Use one of the following:

  • Lenovo Vantage
  • Legion Space on supported newer models
  • Lenovo Legion Toolkit as an unofficial alternative

Avoid running multiple Legion control applications at the same time.

Lenovo Vantage

Optional features you can usually disable when unused:

  • Network Boost
  • Wi-Fi Security
  • Automatic Performance Scan
  • Rapid Charge
  • Overdrive

Legion Space

Open System Updates and install available model-specific updates.

For OLED models, enable the available burn-in protection options, such as:

  • Auto Shift Wallpapers
  • Dynamic Lock Screen
  • Auto Blur Toolbar
  • Default Dark Mode

Lenovo Legion Toolkit

Download it from the official Lenovo Legion Toolkit GitHub.

Beta versions may be available in #legion-toolkit.

Use LLT's settings to disable conflicting Lenovo applications and services when needed. - LLT > Settings, disable Vantage, ImController, and Hotkeys so LLT has full control.

5. Install the GPU Driver — Must

After Windows and Lenovo updates are finished, install the latest suitable driver for your GPU.

  • NVIDIA: Use the NVIDIA App or download the driver directly from NVIDIA.
  • AMD: Use Lenovo's driver or AMD Software when a newer driver is needed.
  • Intel: Windows Update or Lenovo's driver is normally enough.

Restart after installing the driver.

Do not use driver-updater programs or tools such as DDU unless you are troubleshooting a specific problem.

6. Back Up Your BitLocker Key — Must

Windows may enable Device Encryption or BitLocker automatically.

Check: Settings → Privacy & security → Device encryption

Save your recovery key before changing BIOS, Secure Boot, TPM, storage, or firmware settings.

Microsoft guide: Find your BitLocker recovery key

Recovery keys: Microsoft Account

7. Inspect the Laptop — Must

Check the laptop during the retailer's return period.

Test:

  • Screen and dead pixels
  • Keyboard and touchpad
  • Hinges and chassis
  • Webcam, microphone, and speakers
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • USB, USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, and other ports
  • Charging
  • Sleep, restart, and shutdown

Open Device Manager and check for unknown devices or yellow warning icons.

Document serious problems with photos or video, and ask for guidance on our discord server.

8. Test Performance — Recommended

Download the 3DMark Demo on Steam and run Time Spy, not Time Spy Extreme.

Before testing:

  • Connect the charger.
  • Finish all updates.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Select Performance Mode.
  • Close unnecessary programs.

Post the result in the Benchmarks Channel with your laptop model, CPU, GPU, RAM, performance mode, and scores.

You should also test a demanding game or program for a while and watch for crashes, artifacts, shutdowns, or major performance drops.

More testing advice: How to Check a New Laptop for Issues

9. Check Secure Boot — Recommended

Press Win + R, enter msinfo32, and check Secure Boot State.

If it says On, leave it alone.

If it says Off, back up your BitLocker key before changing anything. Ask for help on our discord if you are unsure about the BIOS settings.

Do not clear the TPM, change boot mode, or restore keys randomly.

10. Cleanup and Settings

Remove McAfee — Must

If McAfee came preinstalled, remove it.

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Installed apps → McAfee → Uninstall

Windows Security and Microsoft Defender will automatically take over afterward.

Restart the laptop after uninstalling it.

Other Optional Settings

You may also:

  • Remove other unwanted preinstalled applications.
  • Disable unnecessary startup applications.
  • Enable Conservation Mode when mostly using the laptop plugged in.
  • Use Balanced Mode for normal use or when also gaming.
  • Use Performance Mode for intensive loads while connected to power.

Community optimization guides:

Avoid random debloat scripts or "one-click optimization" tools.

Battery Note

A new battery does not need to be fully drained.

Only perform a battery calibration if the percentage is clearly inaccurate, the laptop shuts down unexpectedly, or feels finicky.

Need Help?

Post in #Questions and include:

  • Exact laptop model
  • CPU and GPU
  • Windows version
  • Error message or screenshot
  • What you already tried

Really do not be scared to ask questions, we've got more then 30k members on our discord and are hoping you will be part of it too.

Once everything is updated, tested, and working, stop changing settings and enjoy your Legion and don't worry!

Advice Another 15ACH6H bites the dust

I've been expecting the infamous motherboard death call ever since I joined this sub, but I think this might be something much worse.

I left my laptop unplugged overnight with very little battery left. It was closed but not shut down. I figured it had simply run out of juice, so I plugged it in the next morning, only to find no signs of charging or life. Opened it up to inspect the battery, and found this. FML.

I haven't completely lost hope yet, especially since I really can't afford a replacement right now. A laptop with similar specs costs nearly twice what I paid for this one 2+ years ago.

Any suggestions on what I could do or what might have caused this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Advice Legion 5 bricked after 3 repairs (warranty gone)

Post image
31 Upvotes

Tldr(ish): Laptop bought in 2022, repaired 3 times in span of 2 years for the same issue; cs told me that on a third time the equipment could be returned or traded for a similar one, and when the third time happened they couldn't do it as it was repaired successfully; warranty extended to maximum; equipment bricked 2 weeks after warranty expired.

Straight to the point I guess:

Bought this Legion 5 in 2022, I use it daily as a work pc (graphic design, mostly adobe programs) and also some gaming. Rarely move it around as I basically use it as a desktop.

In 2024 the screen started to show some burn marks and dead pixel lines started to appear as well. I upgraded the warranty to premium as I couldn't afford to lose my work tool so it could be repaired at home, and so it was. (First repair, second screen)

A few months later (maybe 4 to 5), the exact same issues started to happen, so I went through the same repair process again. (Second repair, third screen)

In about August of 2025 it happened again, by this time, the warranty would expire by the end of September of the same year. I went through the same repair process again (third repair, fourth screen), but explained to the customer support that the warranty was about to expire, and I wanted some proof that this would not keep happening after the warranty expires.

Basically customer support advised me to extend the warranty, as if the issue happened a third time (this was the third time) the laptop would be eligible either for a trade of a similar product or money return, and in case that happens, the warranty time remaining in this laptop would go towards the new product.

In that same call I explained that it was actually the third repair, so I wanted to go for the trade route. The person seemed surprised, and went to check the previous tickets and confirmed that it was actually the third time. Unfortunately as the third repair was successful that could not be done at that time. I pushed back a bit again, and asked what would lenovo do if the laptop still has problems after warranty expiration, and basically the person told me that Lenovo has a grace period after warranty expiration (not sure how long).

I ended up extending the warranty 1 more year (maximum warranty time possible for this equipment).

Fast forward to today 16th of October 2026, the laptop wont boot. No fans spinning, no keyboard light, only the power button light turns on.

Contacted customer support and a ticket was opened to see what can be done. From what I searched on similar issues, either it is completely dead, or the repair is more expensive that getting a new one.

All the customer support calls were recorded, so let's see what Lenovo can do, and if the grace period is at least 2 weeks.

I'll keep this post updated as the process resolves.

A few questions

  1. I had issues with camera and display and the technician opened up the thermal module to get part number Or something but did not repaste before closing it back up. will it affect thermals?

  2. is the black area on copper pipes indicative of any damage due to overheating?

  3. is that PTM Thermal pad over GPU or CPU? ( service centers tell me they only have HY882, should I proceed with that? )

Support MS Office missing Lenovo Legion 5

Post image
• Upvotes

I recently purchased a Lenovo Legion 5 from Flipkart, and the product description clearly mentioned With MS Office.

However, when I opened Microsoft Word, I couldn't figure out how to activate the Office licence. I also didn't receive any product key or separate activation code with the laptop.

For those who have purchased Lenovo laptops from Flipkart with MS Office included:

How did you activate or redeem your MS Office licence?

Is the licence supposed to be linked automatically to your Microsoft account, or should I have received a product key?

- Should I contact Lenovo support or raise a complaint with Flipkart if the licence wasn't provided?

I'd appreciate it if anyone who has gone through this process could share the steps they followed. I want to make sure I'm not missing something before raising a complaint.

Advice Legion 5 15IAX11

• Upvotes

Hi all, I received this laptop yesterday and set it all up, all is working fine but late last night I noticed the RGB on the keyboard was set to static red. I can't claim to have noticed the RGB on setup, it may have always been red but I thought I would have a little mess around with it to see what other colours look like but for the life of me, I can not get it to change colour or anything else, it basically has 2 settings, static red and off.

I can use the FN Space to cycle and it does but it just cycles through Static Red and Off. Using the Legion Space software I can see lots of options and colours but each time it just stays at static red.

I have even done a clean Windows install this morning as I thought maybe something was up but the static red stays on.

It is not a massive issue as I tend to not use RGB anyway buy something is obviously not right and wondered if anyone could help?

Support fan issues on 7i pro gen 10

• Upvotes

Hi im using a Legion 7i PRO GEN 10 and i have been facing these reoccuring fan issues for quite a few months. The left fan refuses to spin under heavy load however when i force it to spin at full speed through the Legion app both fans are working perfectly fine, holding the power button for 30-60s fixes the issue and the left fan starts spinning during load but after a couple days or sometimes even a month the issue comes back again, sometimes clearing gpu x cache also makes the left fan spin or sometimes when i uninstall the lenovo acpi complaint virtual controller and restart both fans work perfectly fine but then again after a couple days the issue comes back again, after asking gemini for advice it said something is wrong with my custom mode fan curves because it starts from 10% rpm which is to low so i fixed it so it starts from 20% and the issue went away for a few days and came back today, also updating the bios fixed it just for this issue to come back again I am genially getting very frustrated and not a single lenovo subbreddit has been helpful as i have gotten 0 answers only bots so pls tell me how do i fix this issue permanently is this a hardware issue or a software issue. Also one more detail fn+q allows me to switch between different profiles like silent/balanced/performance/custom mode and when this issue occrus and i hold the power button to fix it i can no longer switch to custom mode using fn+q only switches through the silent/balanced and performance profiles.Pls help me digonose this issue wheater its software or hardware

Support Legion Slim 5 boot loop

Hello all. I’m having an issue with my Legion Slim 5 and an apparent boot loop issue. I’ve had on-and-off issues in the past that have seemed to have been resolved. (including sending the computer to Lenovo tech repair for a gpu issue in which they ended up replacing the motherboard.)

The issue at hand is that my laptop is currently doing a boot loop that seems ?endless? (It started when I tried to do a security update months ago, and again a day ago when I attempted to install the NET update. The boot loop was ended, and when I attempted to solely install the NET update, the loop started again.) . I am unable to force WinRE in any situation, nor am I able to boot onto usb with windows media creator. Any attempt to do anything other than open diagnostics, BIOS menu, or the NOVO button, is met with “attempting automatic repair”. Every once in a while, while looping, the computer will show an error code such as “irql not less or equal”, or “kmode exception not handled” or even “bad pool caller” one time.

I am reluctant to send the computer back to Lenovo repair considering I don’t have warranty any more, the fact that they took it for almost 4 weeks as well as them not knowing what was wrong with the computer after-the-fact.

Does anyone have any advice or actions I can take to solves this myself?

Advice Legion Go vs Tab vs ..?

My current gear is a Thinkpad (T14 gen 1), and a Samsung tablet (S8 Ultra). While fine for short term portable quests, I find them Too Big for extended travel.
80% of my current needs can be met with just the tablet. The other 20% involves extended keyboard use, and / or apps that don't run on an Android.

I've been researching the 8 to 11 inch device range, and I'm currently focused on two Legion products: the Tab (Android) and the Go (for PC apps).

  • Are there any other devices I should consider?
  • Is there a decent keyboard that matches either of them?

Advice Lenovo Legion idle temperature

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently bought a Lenovo Legion 5 with an RTX 5050 and an i7-13650HX during a Flipkart sale. The laptop shows an idle temperature of 54 to 60 degrees Celsius after restarting with only Legion Space running; is that common, or will it decrease? I used a laptop stand to elevate the bottom, but so far I have seen a minimum of 53 degrees, and after running YouTube and some tabs in Chrome, it reaches 80 degrees; is that common?

Advice [Update] Display replacement completed on LOQ

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

Model: Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9 (Type: 83GS)

Previous History: Motherboard replaced under warranty last year

Recent Issue: Horizontal black scanlines across the panel (visible in BIOS)

Status: Replaced & Working

Hey everyone, quick update following up on my earlier issue regarding the display gate-driver failure.

The on-site engineer visit under Premium Care is officially done, and the faulty screen has been swapped out right at my desk.

Key Highlights from the Replacement:

Panel Brand: I specifically coordinated ahead of time to avoid another early-batch BOE panel, and the technician arrived with an AU Optronics (AUO) display assembly. We verified the FRU/label before installation.

The Process: The technician disconnected the internal battery first, replaced the display panel assembly cleanly, and booted the machine to test.

Post-Repair Checks: Tested in both BIOS and Windows. Zero horizontal lines, no dead pixels, refresh rates switching properly (144Hz), and colors look solid.

What Worked for Me (Tips if you're facing this):

Confirm via BIOS first: Take clear photos of the defect inside the BIOS setup screen to immediately rule out driver issues and get rapid chat approval.

Push for AUO with Central Support / Logistics: Local service centers only receive what central inventory ships out. If you want an AUO panel instead of another BOE, get central care / case coordinators to note that preference on the logistics ticket before dispatch.

Document everything: Given that this machine previously had a dead motherboard, I made sure the full service history and case details were logged in writing and backed by formal escalation channels so there’s an official paper trail in case of future defects.

Huge relief to have the machine back in working order. If anyone has questions about the Premium Care on-site timeline or panel verification, drop them below!

Managed to snag a Lenovo Legion 5 (i9-14900HX, RTX 4070, 32GB RAM) for $700! How did I do?

Upgraded from an Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 with the Ryzen 9 4900HS and 2060 max-q card plus 16gb ram. Sold that for $375 after buying this so technically only spent $325. Got it used but it’s in great condition. How did I do? How big of an upgrade is this?

Advice Advice on purchasing a Lenovo Legion

Hi! I should start by saying that I’m not at all an expert on laptops. I’m thinking of getting a Lenovo Legion Pro i7 for gaming, video editing, and using Unreal Engine—though not for full-scale projects (at least for now). Do you think this is a good purchase, keeping in mind that I’d like it to last at least 7 years? My biggest concern is the operating temperatures.

Advice Similar laptops to Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H?

Hello! I'm new to this reddit group so apologies if I've misunderstood the rules!

This is very specific, but I hope someone here can help. My poor gaming laptop kicked the bucket a week ago. It suddenly wouldn't turn on out of nowhere, and after sending it to a shop I was told motherboard was the issue. It's an understatement to say the repair and part would be more expensive than the computer itself...

I realize a stationary would be smarter, but I really liked that thing, heavyness and heat be damned, and I need to be able to bring the computer around with me. So, another laptop it is.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a similar kind? Preferably a similar price range, which at the time was around 600 euros, thought I realize after looking around this might be unrealistic. I'll survive a bit above if I have to!

Thank you in advance, I would appreciate any advice.
