🛠️ Mod Post GHelper/Armoury Crate Megathread

This post has been made to clear up any questions or inconveniences with both of the software control apps.

The old PSA thread has been archived. Click here to go to it.

You can now summon the new GHelper instalation guide by typing "!ghelper" (without "") in the comment section below.

GHelper is an open source alternative maintained by seerge (u/Beginning_Living4052, also has their own flair) which aims to be a lightweight and bug free alternative to the dumpster fire that is Armoury Crate. Note: We are not forcing you to switch, but it is a good thing to do if you are experiencing issues related to Armoury Crate.

Some terminology before we begin:

  • GH = GHelper

  • AC = Armoury Crate

  • A/C = Alternating Current (aka the charger/wall brick)

  • Open Source = the app's code is available for everyone to view and modify.

  • dGPU = Dedicated GPU (aka Radeon or RTX)

  • iGPU = Integrated GPU (aka CPU graphics)

Starting this point onward, I will update this thread to include Frequently Asked Questions.

It is also a great idea to join our official r/asustuf discord server! Click here to join!.

FAQ

Here's a link to the already existing FAQ on Github, but other questions will be added in this megathread too.

A: Is GHelper safe? Windows Defender said it might be a virus.

B: GHelper is safe, in fact, you can check out the app's code on Github. It is open source. If Windows Defender has suspicions, it's because the app isn't signed. (look up that on google.)

A: How do I set up custom fan curves?

B: tba.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Asus A16 cpu heating /Model FA6O7P

ASUS repair experience:

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming A16 with an AMD Ryzen 9 7000-series CPU and an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU.

I sent my laptop to ASUS for a warranty repair because of the CPU overheating. During the first repair, ASUS worked on the thermal paste, but unfortunately, that did not solve the problem.

When I got my laptop back, the CPU was still overheating within a few hours of setting it up again. I saw temperatures around 89°C while sitting on the Windows desktop, with CPU usage at around 13%. The fans were also very loud.

I tried updating Windows and installing the latest AMD and NVIDIA drivers, but nothing fixed the temperatures.

I contacted ASUS again, and they agreed to a second warranty repair. I’ve now sent the laptop back and am waiting to hear what they find.
At this point, I’m wondering whether the problem could be related to, a faulty motherboard, or something else that wasn’t fixed during the first repair.

Plz help the laptop not even 1 year 5 months old I took good care of it any help.

Just got this laptop a week back in malaysia ( I'm studying here and my previous laptop broke so yeah )

As far as I've used it till now , it's really great and very apt for my daily work / assignment, project creation , Gaming with friends / Playing solo story games , etc.

I do notice little flaws / recommendations tho but I'm not sure about it :

Battery : kinda drains a little fast sometimes and definitely playing my games all the time with plugged on.

Keyboard: sometimes I can't see the keys ( I need to check up my eyes and wear some power glasses ig ) and feel a little wonky but it does work well overall.

RAM : def need to upgrade / add on one more ram stick of either 16 or 32 cuz ( please let me know guys ) as apparently there's already one single 16 gig ram stick in it and the other one is empty for upgrade.

Display: very very rarely the screen sometimes has a screen tear like similar effect + when plugged in , the display goes off for a sec, like it's very unnoticeable and stuff but I thought something happened to my laptop so was a little concerned at first ( maybe hrz minor errors )

Gotta tweak some settings here and there and let me know anything guys as I've set it up and everything and works well so if I'm missing something Lemme know

Also suggest me some good Mouse to pair up with my Laptop as I didn't bring my mouse here and would like to get one so any suggestions ??

( Budget : 1000 to 2000 INR , 50 to 100 MYR )

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Tried to replace Wifi card

• Upvotes

Hello, i have an Asus TUF FX608JMI and i tried to change the wifi card to the Intel ax210. After doing so i turned the laptop on, everything booted up, but when i tried to connect to my wifi, after typing in the password and hitting enter the laptop turned off. I tried to turn it back on for about 10 minutes but it refused to. Reluctantly i changed back to the stock wifi card, and the laptop immediately turned back on and works perfectly.

After the Authorised service center failed to even look at my device, I took it to a local laptop technician I know. He said that the BIOS might be corrupted or the motherboard could be dead. He then told me he would send just the motherboard to Chennai (in Tamil Nadu, India) for repairs. I'm not sure exactly what they did there, but after a week, it started working! It cost around ₹2,500 (∼$25), and now everything works fine.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me.

Need Help! (Software) Loop in booting on TUF Gaming A15

• Upvotes

I’m having an issue with my Asus TUF Gaming A15 laptop. When I turn it on after it has been shut down, it gets stuck in a loop. The loading circle spins for a moment, then the laptop turns off and back on again—this repeats several times over the course of 1–2 minutes. Eventually, a message regarding a BitLocker-encrypted drive appears; I skip it, and then the laptop boots up.

How can I fix this? Does anyone know a proven solution? I’ve read that it could potentially be a motherboard issue, but unfortunately, my warranty has expired, and a repair would likely be very expensive.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX707VI-HX098W – sudden shutdowns, possible overheating or cooling

Hi everyone!

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming F17, model FX707VI-HX098W, with an RTX 4070, and I'm trying to figure out what's causing a serious problem.

Here are all the symptoms I've noticed:

The laptop suddenly shuts down completely, with a black screen and the fans stopping. There is no blue screen or error message.

While playing CS2, the CPU temperature reaches around 92–94°C, even though CPU usage is only around 35%.

The CPU temperatures fluctuate a lot.

After exiting the game, the laptop may suddenly shut down or restart.

During a benchmark, the CPU can stay around 92°C and the benchmark appears to run normally.

The laptop has also shut down when I wasn't gaming.

I left it running on the Windows lock screen overnight, and it stayed on without any problems.

However, when I entered Windows the next morning, it suddenly shut down completely again.

I also tested it in the BIOS, where it stayed running for a while without shutting down.

The problem has happened both with and without the charger connected.

I have already replaced the thermal paste, but the problem still persists.

I'm wondering whether this could be caused by:

Poor contact between the CPU/GPU and the heatsink.

Dried or incorrectly applied thermal putty, thermal paste, or liquid metal.

A bent or damaged heat pipe.

A faulty motherboard or power delivery component.

Another hardware or software issue.

My questions:

Has anyone experienced the same problem with an ASUS TUF F17 FX707VI?

Could a cooling problem cause the laptop to shut down even when entering Windows?

Does this model use liquid metal on the CPU, or conventional thermal paste?

Could the heatsink be bent or not making proper contact with the CPU?

What was the actual cause in your case, and how did you fix it?

Is this more likely to be a cooling issue or a motherboard/power problem?

I would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. I don't want to replace expensive parts without knowing the actual cause.

Thank you!

ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX707VI – sudden shutdowns

Hi everyone! I have an ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX707VI (RTX 4070).

I also change the termal paste but that s not tge isue,im thincking it might be the heatpipe bend, idk

My laptop suddenly shuts down completely, with a black screen and the fans stopping. It has reached around 92–94°C on the CPU while gaming.

Interestingly, it stayed on the Windows lock screen all night without shutting down, but after I logged into Windows, it suddenly turned off again.

I have also experienced sudden shutdowns while gaming.

Has anyone experienced the same issue with this model? Could it be a cooling problem, liquid metal/thermal paste contact, power delivery, or the motherboard?

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) ASUS TUF Gaming A16 suddenly shut down and now won't boot properly!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Earlier today, I left my laptop running with two browsers open and possibly a game running in the background. I was away for around 30 minutes, and when I returned, I found the laptop in this state.

The display was completely off. To clarify, I don't mean the screen was illuminated but showing a black image. The display itself wasn't lighting up at all. I couldn't see an ASUS logo, a faint backlight, or anything else.

The laptop had apparently been running before the incident. It usually gets quite hot during use, but I wasn't present when this happened, so I don't know whether it overheated or what exactly triggered the problem.

What happened afterward:

Initially, I tried forcing the laptop to shut down by holding the power button. However, I noticed some unusual behavior.

1) After shutting it down, it would sometimes turn itself back on without me pressing the power button.

2) When it powered on, the keyboard backlight and other indicators illuminated, but the display remained completely off.

3) It would sometimes shut down automatically after approximately a minute, with all the lights going off, including the charging indicator even though the charger was still connected.

4) Sometimes, it would turn itself back on again shortly afterward.

5)The fans produced only a faint noise rather than their usual sound.

6)The charging indicator initially showed white but later changed to red/orange. At one point, it also went completely off during a shutdown.

7)Eventually, the laptop stayed completely off for a couple of minutes. After I reconnected the charger, the charging indicator came back on.

8)I tried starting it again, but the same behavior continued: the laptop powered on, the display remained completely off, and the laptop eventually shut down and restarted automatically.

What I've tried so far:

1) Held the power button for approximately 15–20 seconds to force a shutdown.

2) Disconnected the charger and peripherals.

3) Held the power button for approximately 40 seconds with the charger disconnected.

4) Reconnected the charger and attempted to start the laptop, waiting around two minutes.

5) Disconnected and reconnected the charger after the laptop had shut down completely.

6) Left the laptop resting for approximately an hour to cool down.

7) Attempted Windows graphics-driver reset shortcut but nothing happened.

8) I haven't opened the laptop or disconnected its internal battery. I also haven't attempted a BIOS recovery or Windows reinstallation.

What could be causing this?

I'm wondering whether this could be a motherboard or power-delivery issue, an embedded-controller or BIOS problem, a RAM initialization failure, or something related to the GPU.

I'm also unsure whether it's worth trying the or whether that would be pointless given that the display never lights up and the laptop keeps shutting down and restarting.

I'd appreciate advice on the following:

Is there anything else I can safely try at home, or should I stop troubleshooting and take it to a repair shop?

What should a technician test first before recommending an expensive motherboard replacement?

Has anyone experienced a similar issue with the same laptop?

I'm trying to avoid making the problem worse by repeatedly attempting random fixes.

Need Help! (Software) ASUS TUF A16 doesn't wake from sleep

Whenever I want to start the laptop I have to manually restart it by holding the power button - any ideas?

I really don't have much installed on it besides some games and G Helper, but I feel like the problem has persisted for a while.

It boots just fine after restarting it, so I'm not sure what the issue is. My graphics card has had issues when switching from its integrated to dedicated causing games to crash, which is why I installed the G Helper. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) BSODs and crashes on games it should be able to run

I got this Asus TUF a16 advantage edition and I keep getting BSODs and GPU crashes on marvel rivals. It’s really annoying because I keep crashing every time I play comp and get a penalty.

The bsod I just got today was the first in a month and the code is DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. I use the ghelper and uninstalled all asus and armorycrate stuff, so I’m not sure what else I’m doing wrong. Is there a certain setting I should turn on or anything else I should download to play video games? I keep trying to install updates on amd installer and I don’t think it’s working either, I’m pretty lost.

My specs are: Ryzen 7 7735hs, 16GB ddr5, 512gb, radeon 7700s

Linux I moved my TUF to Linux, missed G-Helper, and ended up making my own little version on asusctl and Cardwire (looking for TUF testers)

Hey! Some time ago I moved my TUF A15 (FA507NV) to Linux and the thing I missed most was G-Helper.

I tried g-helper-linux and ROG Control Center and they both work, but switching between Eco and Standard meant logging out or unloading the NVIDIA driver, the UI was messy, and in ROG Control Center I honestly kept getting lost. Or maybe I just miss seerge's app.

So I started making one for myself. It looks and behaves more like the original G-Helper, opens right at the tray icon, and Eco ↔ Standard switch in a second without a logout (it runs on top of asusctl and Cardwire, so they do the real hardware work).

What's there: Silent / Balanced / Turbo and custom modes per power source, fan curves and power limits, Eco / Standard / Ultimate / Optimized, keyboard lighting, battery limit, Fn key actions, BIOS and driver updates. AppImage for any distro, plus a Fedora COPR; one password on first start, no terminal.

I made it for my own laptop, but I would be glad if it helps someone else. It's only been tested on my FA507NV, so if you try it on another model, Extra → Diagnostics saves a report, and I'll happily fix what breaks.

https://github.com/sprinterz5/asus-tso-helper

Unofficial; credit for the interface goes to seerge and G-Helper.

Need Help! (Software) Sweet Spot of Fan Curves

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello TUF masters! Requesting help, guidance, and suggestions for what could be the sweet spot for setting up my fan curves for gaming and productivity.

I was hesitant at first after buying this laptop 9 months ago, uninstalling AC, and using G-Helper because I'm not much of a geek when it comes to setting up fan speeds, overclocking, or CPU and GPU performance, since it's my first time having a personal computer. I relied more on the modes in AC (Silent + Optimized for Battery, Turbo + Optimized for plugged in). At this moment, I decided to use G-Helper, yet I'm not familiar with how to set up the right curves, which I read in previous Reddit posts that some caused issues with the wrong setup for the software to be used.

I commonly use my laptop for graphic design, multimedia, and gaming. I don't usually use my laptop every day, averaging 4- 5 times a week, 9-10 hours of usage (3-4 hours gaming, 5-6 hours of common tasks such as browsing, office work, editing, multimedia presentation, etc.). I rarely use the DaVinci Resolve app since I'm not much of a video editor.

Multimedia/Productivity software: 1. ProPresenter 2. FreeShow 3. OBS Studio 4. DaVinci Resolve

Games that I play and their graphics settings: 1. World of Tanks: HEAT (Medium) 2. World of Warships (High) 3. Valorant (Medium to High) [only play when some friends invite me] 4. PUBG (Medium) 5. Disney Speedstorm (High) [only played if my nephews and niece request it]

Here's the spec of the model: - Ryzen 7 7745HS - 16 GB RAM DDR5 at 5600 MT/s - RTX 3050 with 4 GB VRAM - 1.5 TB SSD

Please grant me your wisdom

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Major Asus fault, I Can’t get to ASUS logo due to asus failure in bios with password that should exist 🙏

Major issue that shouldn’t exist by asus . So warning to all don’t do this on your asus , and please help me 🙏

ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506HCB, BIOS 316. Laptop specifications: ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506HCB, Intel Core i7-11600H processor, 6 cores, 12 threads, 2.9 GHz base clock, 32 GB DDR4 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU with 4 GB VRAM, plus Intel UHD integrated graphics.

What happened: I entered the BIOS, removed the Administrator Password by leaving the new password blank, and the BIOS then showed Administrator Password not installed, while User Password stayed installed. After restarting, the laptop asked for a password before showing the ASUS logo, and the same password that worked every day was rejected as invalid. Now I cannot access BIOS, Windows, or recovery options. I did not intend to change the user password.

My concern is also why the BIOS allows the administrator password to be removed while the user password remains installed, if that can result in locking me out of my own computer without warning. Questions: What does the BIOS User Password lock me out of in this situation? Why would my password stop working right after removing the administrator password?

How can I safely regain access? Would clearing the CMOS or disconnecting the CMOS battery remove the password on this model? Is there an ASUS authorised BIOS recovery procedure? Could a BIOS specialist repair this while keeping my original motherboard, SSD, Windows, and BitLocker intact? Would a BIOS flash or Windows boot repair help or risk my data? And most importantly, how can I regain access without losing any of my existing data, settings, or BitLocker files? What can I do?

There’s gotta be some Computer geek or something that knows or somebody that knows how to fix this issue or undo this issue. My computer has been working like a dream not a single problem on it prior to trying to turn off administrator password by leaving the create new password and confirm new password after entering the current password to turn it off.

It even said that it was not installed anymore .and the username password was still installed so the username password should work..

They shouldn’t even been a risk or a issue or an option. If it wasn’t issue in the bios to be able returned the administrator password and leave the username password on this is a major fault by ASUS. It should’ve been addressed or even known about and they should’ve been at least a warning which there was no warning but the fact it shouldn’t even been an option. If this is what happens please. I need help.

🔥 New TUF Device Buying asus tuf a16 laptop

Hello gyus!

I need your thoughts and advices on buying my first Gaming laptop.

I have been looking for a while and I considered buying an Asus tuf a16 gaming laptop.

I have found two choices with good prices relatively to the crazy European market prices.

  1. A new (never used) open box TUF Gaming A16 model #FA608UM-RV137W , with Ryzen 7 260H, 16gb ram, 1tb, rtx 5060 for 1150€.

2. A lightly used ( 3 months )  TUF Gaming A16 model #FA608UP-RV003W, with Ryzen 7 260H 16gb 1tb rtx 5070 for 1300€.

Both comes in their original boxes.

I will be using it for studying , gaming and maybe some video editing.

Which one should i go for ?

Thanks in Advance!

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) My Asus laptop stayed on as long as I held down the space bar!

Post image
62 Upvotes

I bought an Asus TUF Gaming F15 FX506LH in early 2022. It was perfect for my video-editing projects and ran demanding apps like Adobe Premiere really well.

Everything worked fine until last December, when the laptop suddenly wouldn’t turn on. I thought the battery was dead, so I plugged it in, but that didn’t help. After pressing different keys, I found that it would start—but as soon as Windows loaded and the desktop appeared, it would shut down again.

Eventually, I discovered that the laptop stays on only while I hold down the space bar. More recently, I found that the Delete key works too. That’s why I put a weight on the keyboard! Apart from this issue, the laptop works perfectly. But keeping a weight on the keyboard is annoying, and I can’t use the built-in keyboard, so I had to buy an external one.

I’ve shown it to a few computer repair technicians, but none of them could figure out the problem. Has anyone experienced something like this? What might be causing it, and how can I fix it?
