Love my ZFold8 so far. One question though, is the Zfold8 not supposed to support partial folding? Pictured Left is my Zfold6.

Update: Thanks everyone. Didn’t realize it didn’t support Flex Mode. I should’ve realized when I noticed the hinge doesn’t have any snap/stop points.

I've owned every fold since the 5 and the charging speed/capacity increase has been life changing coming from the 7. Like the numbers do not put into perspective how much of an improvement it is for day to day use.

I had to constantly plan around my Fold 7's battery life. The capacity was one issue, but the 25w charing speed was really what amplified it because even the top offs would take forever (relatively).

I'd consider myself a low end power user and I don't think about charging this phone until I lie down in bed at night which has made the entire experience of owning a fold so much more enjoyable for me.

I use T-Mobile and live in an area that has weak cell service. My previous phone - the Z Flip 7 suffered with reception. This was not unusual as all of my previous phones were the same. If I went to the one spot in my house that offered the best reception I would typically get 1-2 bars (-115db or so) and at most 20-30Mbs down and 2-5 Mbs up. It was much worse everywhere else in my house. But then I recently upgraded to the Z Fold 8. The signal strength is still roughly the same. But now the status indicator shows "5Guc". I had to look this up. The 'uc' stands for ultra capacity and uses the higher frequencies for better throughput. I never had this with the Flip 7. With the Fold 8 I've had download rates averaging around 100Mbs down, once as high as 250Mbs. Unfortunately the upload rates are only marginally better. The Flip 7 used a Samsung Exynos modem while the newer Fold 8 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon modem. I assume that's the reason I now get 'uc'.

I haven't seen anyone else comment on improved reception with the Fold, but I sure do appreciate it.

Using an app called Fold Stats, I find that I use the inner screen 80% of the time vs the outer screen.

When I bought it, I figured those numbers would be more like 30/70 (inner / outer)

So curious as to the rest of you?

A quick review of the Spigen Air Skin Aramid case.

For the first few days, I was very happy with it: pleasant feel, precise cutouts, and wireless charging and MagSafe working perfectly.

However, after just three weeks, I noticed that one corner of the hinge protection was already damaged. It looks as though the aramid finish is nothing more than a thin adhesive layer. This is a far cry from Kevlar!

I'm a very meticulous person and take great care when handling my phone. It's also worth noting that the other corners of the case are in perfect condition.

For a case at this price point, this is simply unacceptable. I'll therefore be returning it to Amazon.

I'm still undecided about which higher-quality case to choose as a replacement.

so there is an option in the settings > display or when you go to the recent apps that to change the aspect ratio i changed it to 4:3 now i can watch my content without the camera cut out (violet) on it now there is a minor issue can't the grey area (teal) change to black or the background of that app like black for yt and video player it would be amazing if someone would help me out.

Looking into getting a Galaxy Fold 8. Not sure what previous years' Black Friday deals were, but does Samsung allow stacking discounts? For example, if they lower the Fold's cost from $1,899 to $1,499, do they also allow you to stack the carrier's $1,200 trade-in discount? Or does it have to be one or the other? Currently, I can get the Fold 8 for $600 with the discounts and carrier trade-in plus $0 headphones, so not sure what else there would be with the Black Friday deals. Anyone have any experience?

It’s so lazy / strange that the kindle app hasn’t updated or recognised that the fold 8 is THE best e reader except a kindle. The animation on the internal screen “hinges” to the left rather than centre. Such a simple fix and something that Duo has straight away.

Doesn’t it feel slightly uncomfortable when opened/unfolded? Having used the Fold 8, I also feel a bit uneasy…perhaps too “squared”

Wife wanted to get the Fold 8 so I checked on my phone what it would cost, her trade in credit, etc. it offered $400 in Samsung Credit as well so I told her she can upgrade her watch for free.

When she went to order it on her phone it was only giving her $200 in Samsung Credit for the exact same phone/trade in/payment method. Talked to Samsung support and I eventually figured it out...

I was using the Google browser (not chrome), as in I hit the Google search widget in my home screen....literally every other browser including the Samsung Shop App was giving $200 less in credit.

Not sure how well this is known but figured I would throw it out there. This is in the US btw

Just wanted to jump in here because I haven't seen much on the subject.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a hydrogel matte screen protector for the inside screen of my Fold 8. I think that almost everyone would love this and highly recommend it. Reduces glare, crease visibility and feels great for scrolling. Also just looks incredible. As much as I hate to admit it, it's the singular feature of the Duo that I'm envious of and it's a great add by Apple, credit where credit is due.

Word of warning: to install one properly is frustrating as hell, order extras and be super patient. Non dust caused bubbles will be easier to dissolve when you heat the phone up a bit with use.

Had the iPhone 13 since release date (roughly 5 years ago? jeez time flies), was a solid phone, but time gets us all and by now it wasn't as smooth of a phone as it used to be for me. So i took a look at what i wanted to get, curiosity took the best of me and i choose this Z Fold 8. First ever foldable i've ever had.

I'm really enjoying it! I love the aspect ratio, felt weird at the beginning but now every other phone feels like a long stick. The amount of customisation you can do to both home and lock screens is also really cool.

Facial recognition is not as smooth as face id on an iPhone, but the finger sensor on the side works like a charm and is really responsive and fast.

I really really enjoy reading on this phone. Aspect ratio is an absolute wonder for a double page book on landscape mode, screen is really crisp and battery lasts a lot.

On the bad side, i do find the camera to be worse than the one on my iPhone on certain apps, also some apps like Instagram are not fully optimized for this aspect ratio but i guess they will solve it now that the iPhone Duo is coming out.

All in all i'm very happy with the purchase.

Case is a DBrand grip with the "black camo" skin and the reader app is CDisplayEX.

I have the Zfold 4 and Samsung recently switched to quarterly security updates. My work apps have started to complain that I need the Sep security patch. The current patch I have is from Aug.

Since the patches are quarterly, I would assume that I'll get another one for Q3 and then won't see the next one till end of Dec/early Jan?

Looks like Pitaka added new hinge cases.

Comes with front protection + screen protector, hinge protection and customizable NFC buttons.

What's the best offer in the uk for a fold 8 currently?

I can get a blue light card discount on both the 8 and the ultra. Annoyingly the fold 8 works out to £1558 or so and the ultra £1548 ish for both as 512gb models

I prefer the form of the fold 8 to the ultra but with the ultra coming in cheaper its hard to make the choice for the 8 over it.

Is there a pattern for discounts for these phones? The discount i have available right now is till the 27th of October.

So I’ve had the Z Fold 8 Ultra for 30 days today. Today is the day I have to decide if I want to exchange it for the z fold 8. The fact I’m still considering it tells me to just go exchange it. I don’t care about the camera I don’t care about the extra windows I have 2 tablets a great gaming pc a great gaming laptop and a handheld. This is my phone and the thinner candy bar style has just really been annoying for me. I’m sure the software issues will be fixed with app updates for the lagging and size issues. I use it at night flipped open but during the day it’s usually closed and with a case on it the edges are hard to hit and texting has been a nightmare for me.

It's been almost 2.5 months since getting the zfold8 and I am just about satisfied with the outside home screen layout I added. I tried a few others but I like the minimalist style with just the apps I use the most (I am boring, IK 🫣)

But I could really use some inspiration on the inside home screen.
