Plus a few summer steelhead. The bull seemed like a sea run fish, what do we think?

Discussion Finally made it out to my favorite fly fishing spot here in Southern Oregon… what’s your fishing destination you miss most of all?

The Klamath River never disappoints and if you get bored of wild fish and gorgeous scenery there are a half dozen other great high desert trout streams

Discussion Anybody fly fishing in the surf?

• Upvotes

I was visiting family in SoCal and saw a fly fisher casting into the surf while we were at the beach. There were a lot of surfers taking advantage of large waves cresting about 100 yards out and boogie boarders riding the smaller, but still decent, waves closer in. It was probably the last place I expected to see a fly fisher.

Do any of you like to fish in rough surf like that? What are you targeting? What’s your setup?

Discussion RIO Versaleader and fast current

• Upvotes

I’m mainly a Stillwater fly fisherman and have recently been fishing a fast flowing spot in my city river where I am consistently catching multiple 28” walleye a night on spinning/baitcast gear. This has led me to wanting to use my 8wt to catch some of these fish. I only have floating line and type 6 sinking line. So I was wondering if I should use the sinking line or the floating line but buy RIO versileader to help my big streamers get down to depth.

Regarding the title, how does the versileader do with fast currents? I’m fishing some pretty heavy chop and am worried that the chop will cause the line to knot or work poorly.

What should I do?

Discussion Redington AS 9/10 fly reel

I am looking for some help with my Redington AS 9/10 fly reel. It needs a good cleaning, lubrication and the drag evaluated. I no longer have any of the original documentation and everything I find online is not for my exact reel - so, I am afraid to make any assumptions with lubrication and the drag. I would greatly appreciate any help. I would also like to purchase an additional black spare spool for this reel if anyone happens to be interested in getting rid of one. Thanks for any guidance.

Discussion Bauer Rogue 3 Fly Fishing Reel

I have a Bauer Rogue 3 reel that I have had for at least a decade now. I have not used it since it was sent into Bauer for a tune about 10 years ago. I just used it for steelhead fishing, and it was squealing like a squidgy on glass when a fish would take line with the drag on. I assume some fresh lubrication would do it wonders, but I do not have any owner's manual for maintenance or lubrication requirements. Honestly, I have never done anything with this reel since Bauer had it 10 years ago and could seriously use any information anyone may have. Also, I am looking for a spare black spool for this reel. I appreciate any help.

Is this tippet ideal for salmon?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Targeting coho mostly maybe chinook with small dense flies. Flies with 5/32 3/16 or 11/64 tungsten beads.

I noticed this tippet is more visible in water than the fluoro leader I use on my gear fishing setups, and I was also have a bit of difficulty getting my leader to really straighten out (still learning to cast well).

Anyway, I am curious if this is ideal. It was all that was left in Bass Pro shelves so I bought it.

I have 12lb Seaguar Tatsu Fluoro for my gear leaders.

Any more suitable product recommendations welcome

Gif Deeper Sonar Lifejacket

Hi, I'm not sure how many of you are primarily still-water fly fishers like me. Where I live it's quite a few hours to the closest river/stream so I mostly focus on stocked ponds/lakes. I target them from a canoe and have been using the Deeper Sonar to help. If you're like me, you might have noticed that the deeper loses connection to your phone/tablet if it goes under water. Which, when paddling around even slowly happens quite a bit. It's a known issue on the Deeper support page, and has nothing to do with the products, it is just that the connection cannot penetrate water.

So I've been working this past summer on a solution - the deeper lifejacket. It is about to go live on Makerworld, which is a 3dprinting website with free models you can download and print. I do admit, this took some time to get correct and I'm sure some of you folks might be able to suggest improvements - please do.

Here's the idea. You attach some line - I use paracord - to the deeper, feed the line through the eye on the lifejacket and then attach that to your boat. This ensures no matter what you never lose your sonar, and most importantly adds flotation to the deeper that improves the connection stability as it rarely can go underwater from a wave or being pulled along. The retaining ring does fit snuggly and traps the sonar perfectly well, so you could just attach your string to the lifejacket, but I don't recommend putting your sonar at any kind of risk so attaching directly to the deeper is recommended.

Anyhow, I'm posting here looking for any kind of feedback, or advice, or thoughts on the model. V1 should (pending maker world approval process) be launched in the next 24 hours or so. I'd appreciate any and all feedback.

Hey guys and gals,

I am going to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks in June 2027 for my honeymoon. I’m looking for suggestions on places to fish as well as fly pattern suggestions (hook size, patterns, variations, etc.)

Here are the flies I am working with so far. I’m working on tying some parachute Adams in varying colors and sizes currently.

Thanks!

Autumn in northern Japan (Hokkaido) is reaching its peak, and in just a few short weeks, the first snowflakes will begin to fall in the mountains. I've got a friend visiting, and at the top of his list was aiming for native species which we got, but the colors and views on the river made each outing even more magical. The fish, in order, are iwana (spotted char), oshorokoma (dolly varden), and yamame (cherry trout).

I’ve only been really fishing for about a year and a half, and I’ve been trying really hard over the last few months to build out my boxes, but I still feel like I don’t have what I need. I obviously fish dries more than anything, but I’m getting a little more into nymphing.

I’m mostly fishing the tailwater of the south fork of the Boise (in town), but have ventured up to the salmon here and there, and am headed over to the big wood and the snake (Henry’s fork) late spring/early summer next year.
