Hot take: Someone buying an e-bike, never pedaling it, and only riding (responsibly) with throttle is still a net positive to society

Fuck cars.

Also, the throttle hate from some of the bike purists here is crazy. People saying that anything with a throttle doesn't count as an e-bike? wtf?

If someone is riding an e-bike, that's one less car on the road taking up space, burning gas, releasing fumes, and wearing down the roads. As long as they're riding responsibly, following traffic laws and speed limits, not being an asshole, and yielding and being respectful of pedestrians, then fuck it, let the kids do what they want.

Went Bike Riding with my dad and was surprised

Went on my ebike with my dad on a trail. We got to the Recreational park at the end and he let me try his Velotric? I think e bike. First time ever riding a high end 1500$ electric bike.

Felt like next level technology compared to my 300$ ebike from walmart. Felt like I was operating some futuristic machine in comparison to what I've been riding

Had only seen those high quality high price ones in videos to learn about e bikes until now

Woah

I saw a video posted by a guy doing this a while back, so I figured I'd give it a try.

Is it ideal? No

Did it work? Yes.

Adjusted brakes, checked pads, bled the brakes because my rear brake was a bit spongy. Tires are good for now, but I have a set of HEB Allscape tires that will probably be on in the next 1,000 miles . The bike has 2200 miles on it, my commute to work is 13 miles. I am putting just over 100miles a week on the bike since I ride 4 days per week.

As far as the bike, it has been a great bike. My only issue with it is I wish it wasn't 75lbs. I started out on PAS 3, but now typically will ride at PAS 2 and sometimes 1. I have pedaled it at 0 a few times and am able to maintain 13 to 15mph. Thankfully most of my commute is on a shared path along a river. Lots of wildlife and sadly one murder victim(yes that is true)

Did it today. Tired but extremely happy with this crazy adventure!

Trip in Portugal, from the suburbs of Lisbon to the south of the country, near Spain.

2 ferries and most of the way in regular roads.

Bike is a Riese & Muller Supercharger with Bosch CX. Took with me 2 extra batteries and ended the trip with 50% left. Most of the ride was in tour and some in sport.

Gloves and protection jacket from AliExpress, helmet and glasses from Decathlon, speaker from Anker and watch from Garmin.

9 hours in total with 7:30 pedaling.

I will sleep like a baby :P

Bike purchase question I just bought a Hiplock DX1000 for my E-Bike Crew Dart24, that should be sufficient security, right?

Post image

I just got my first e-bike and picked up a bike lock for it as well. Since I'm staying in LA, I definitely needed something angle-grinder resistant. The Hiplok DX1000 seemed like the best option, so I bought one locally.

My plan is to lock the bike whenever I visit stores, parks, and similar locations short 5-30min stops, but never leave it overnight. I intend to secure it with a lock and carry the battery in my backpack, depending on where I am. Do you recommend locking the bike by securing it through both the frame and the rear wheel?

E-Dirtbike Places to ride my talaria ebike near rgv

Hey everyone! I’m considering buying a Talaria or Surron-style electric dirt bike, but before spending around $3,400, I want to make sure I have places to ride it.
I’m looking for free or very cheap riding spots within about an hour of rgv Texas. Ideally, I’m looking for:
Dirt trails, open riding areas, or motocross tracks that allow electric dirt bikes
Places with parking so I can bring the bike
Legal places where Talaria/Surron-style bikes are actually allowed
Spots that are open to the public and don’t require a membership
I know about a possible motocross spot near West Monte Cristo Road and N Ware Road, but I’m unsure where to park.
Does anyone know any good places nearby? I’d really appreciate specific locations or Google Maps pins, along with parking information and any fees or rules. Thanks!

E-bike classes and bikeway access | A modified calbike.org table

I split the "Pedal Operated" column in two: "Pedals Required" and "Throttle Allowed", added "Maximum Power" column, updated Maximum Motor-Assisted Speed for mopeds and added the note that some Class 3 e-bikes are sold with throttles. I think that the "gray zone" Class 3 e-bike with a throttle assisting up to 20 MPH makes total sense, but it is prohibited in California.

The original document is here: California's new e-bike law: guidance for agencies.

Sometimes when riding it just. Shuts off.

I have to pull over and take the key out and put it back in and it works like normal.

There is a way you can add a back rack once you add the smaller one then you can add a bigger one

And yes you could do a trailer to it I'm about to connect a trailer a 2x2 trailer easy just be aware and cautious when you're on the roads

I’m exactly 5’11’’, which is supposed to be right on the upper edge of the sizing for this bike. Is the company’s sizing misleading or is this an ok fit? Thanks!

Just how important is it to follow the "battery saving" advice to a tee?

The advice I keep seeing says to not store the battery below 50f, not to charge it below freezing, not to charge it while hot, to use oem charger, and not keep it at 100% charge.

The issue is that I'm having issues with the storing below 50f and not keeping it at 100%. Its just not practical at this point to keep removing and reinserting the battery now that its dropping below 50 overnight, and Its hard to keep the battery below 80% when I need to use it.

So my main question is, by not following the advice all the way how much am I losing in battery life? If its cutting the life from 5 years to 4 that's fine. But if its from 5 to 2 I need to find solutions.

Bike purchase question Long term parking by the ocean?

Hi everyone, new here. I'm looking to buy a used Aventon Soltera 2.5 and I need to park it in a Marina (where boats are parked) I know they're not meant for long term parking in the rain but how will it do in a high humidity and salty environment? Will a cheap bike cover do or should I reconsider getting an e bike all together?

Bike lift

Looking for a lift for a heavy e-bike (85lbs) that attaches to a 6x6 deck post that I can raise and lower. I've done a bunch of searching and cannot for the life of me find one out there. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Trek Powerfly4+ Gen 5 vs Specalized Turbo Vado 2 4.0 vs Gazelle T10 Ultimate

I am in a bit of a bind, hard to decide.
Trying to check my local bike market for a good ebike. I am a heavy guy that will drive up some step roads during the summer (and gravel roads) and commuting to work (13 km one way, looking for going twice to work before charging) so looking for good torque and good battery. Ive been looking mainly at these bikes to the what is in stock currently.
Also 194cm tall, so should maybe be XL frame. But insem length might be smaller

Live in Sweden to prices is in SEK, so just done pretty a 10-1 conversion to usd

Powerfly - Very local dealer that will give me the the Gen 5 EQ version for $4000. Tbh a bit above my pricepoint but not impossible. Felt good to testdrive but might have to change the handlebar. Also only Large but felt fine

Turbo Vado 2 4.0 - Tried the M version that is kinda small, but what they had in stock and it drove good. Will call some closeby stores (same brand) to see if they have the L and with a reduces price of $3200 like the one I tried in M. Also to testdrive
Else I can buy the XL from offical store for $3300

T10 Ultimate - Really good offer of $2900 from a store 30 minutes away, but kinda unsure how the store will survive (warranty). Have a dealer closeby that also does Gazelle where I could service. Only L size, but have not tried it yet as it is only ordering online. Gamble on size

Alot of different pricepoints, but unsure of sizes. A 4th opion would be to wait too, but I do want one towards spring. Not sure if I will find good deals still.
