Aside from helmet, what other for safety stuff can I give to my dad while he is using his ebike?

• Upvotes

Hello, r/ebikes! Ever since I added a small trailer to my dad’s Tesway, so he can haul his fishing gear, and now he uses it at all time..

Im happy seeing him ejoying it but the only thing that worries me is this pretty rough stretch of road he has to ride through. He says he can handle it just fine, but you know how dads are, I just want him to be safe all the time...

He already has a helmet. Should I get him Knee pads, a first aid kit, some basic repair tools? Are there any other essentials for an older rider? Just trying to make sure I’ve covered everything hehe

Thank you for the ideas then :)

Hot take: Someone buying an e-bike, never pedaling it, and only riding (responsibly) with throttle is still a net positive to society

Fuck cars.

Also, the throttle hate from some of the bike purists here is crazy. People saying that anything with a throttle doesn't count as an e-bike? wtf?

If someone is riding an e-bike, that's one less car on the road taking up space, burning gas, releasing fumes, and wearing down the roads. As long as they're riding responsibly, following traffic laws and speed limits, not being an asshole, and yielding and being respectful of pedestrians, then fuck it, let the kids do what they want.

Bafang 48V 500W motor cuts all power when I ride the bike — could the battery adapter be the problem?

Hi everyone! I need some help with my e-bike conversion.

I have a Decathlon Rockrider EXPL 100 with a Bafang 48V 500W hub motor and a Green Cell 48V 15Ah battery.

I had to buy an adapter to connect the battery to the motor controller because the connectors were different.

The problem is that the motor works fine when the rear wheel is lifted off the ground, but as soon as I sit on the bike and apply the throttle, the motor stops and the display turns off completely. I can turn the display back on immediately, and the battery indicator lights still work.

This problem has been happening since my first test.

Could the adapter be unable to handle the current required by the motor? Or could it be a battery, controller, or wiring issue?

I was thinking about removing the adapter and connecting the wires directly, but I'm worried about damaging the battery or controller.

What do you think is causing this problem, and how can I safely diagnose it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Lowered the weight to 13 kilos, Selle Italia saddle, dropped the rattle too much mudguards, threw on some DTSwiss, and Panaracer GravelKings. I ride it to and from work so I needed it to be comfortable for me.

Buying my 1st ebike

I want to buy my first ebike and don´t want to spend too much money. I found 3 ebikes in my price range (around €600). Do you have any experiences which is better or do you know other models? I mainly need it for commuting within a city. It´s important to me that it has a low frame, and that it´s a city bike. I dislike mountain bikes. I would prefer a digital display that shows my speed and a battery that can be locked.

Option A: URLIFE E26 48V 10.4Ah Battery 26" Tire

Option B: HILLMILES MileTrail 1 Electric Bike, 36V 13Ah Battery, 26-Inch Tires, 250W Motor

Option C: HillMiles MileCity 1 250W 468Wh 26-inch

Pannier bags?

Hi! I am looking for some pannier bags for my dad’s rad power bike. I can’t seem to find any sort of model number on the bike. I just know it’s a Class 2.

Can I get any kind of pannier bags or do folks have suggestions? I’m hoping to get something used.

Throttle and pedal assist stopped working after washing my e-bike I believe—any ideas?

I bought this e-bike used, and everything worked perfectly at first, including the throttle and pedal assist.
After my dad washed it with a sponge and a small bottle-style pressure sprayer, both the throttle and pedal assist stopped working. Everything else still seems to work.
When I twist the throttle while pushing the bike backward, it makes a noise that seems to come from the battery area, rather than the motor. The bike also resists rolling backward, almost like the rear wheel is being held back.
If I lift the bike at that moment, the rear wheel moves a little as the pressure releases, but it doesn’t keep spinning under motor power.
I’ve attached a video. Does anyone recognize these symptoms or know what I should check first? Could water have gotten into an electrical component?
Thanks for any help!

Ebike troubleshooting Qlife Spark Front End Noise

I have a brand new Qlife Spark and it rides great and I totally understand it's not made for jumping or wheelies and such. I'm just curious if the clunking sound in the video is normally from the forks because it is so heavy? There's nothing loose as I've already checked and tightened everything and it feels very solid and sturdy. I could totally be paranoid as well!! 🤣 TIA!

Juiced scrambler review

Negatives:
I got the dual battery for long distance they say 120 miles or 60 per battery . Two batteries couldn’t even get me 50 miles from 100% to 0 on flat beaches. I got 48.8 miles total and I’m about 200 lbs and I stayed in PA2. getting the batteries in and out from under the seat are an absolute pain in the arse. Seat gives you saddle soreness after 30 miles.
Weighs a tons and makes really hard turns

Positives
Good torque
Fast !
Good quality parts and tires
Good customer service
Feel safe and durable

I’d say the battery placement and range are the biggest let downs. I understand that the range varies by the weight but coming short over 50% is just flat out lying about your product
though it is fun and a sturdy quality built bike and it is absolutely fast . I can get it up to 25 mph on PA2
While doing a little bit of pedaling
Though if I’d do it again I’d buy a bike that’s lighter with better range.

Bike build question Where can I find a motorless wheel for the Super73 RX? (20" rim, 200mm spacing, 18mm axle)

As the title says, im essentially looking for a stock super73 rx wheel (no tire, just the complete rim), except it has no hub motor on it. im planning a build where i install a cyc mid drive motor onto the frame, and i wont be needing the hub motor, which is why i want an unpowered wheel. im having trouble finding one online, so if anybody could give me some suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bike build question Help me electrify my bike

Post image

I've been lurking here awhile planning to get myself an ebike and most of what's said is pretty discouraging. My budget is around $600, and I understand that buying a new bike that comes in under that is asking for fire and suffering. Used bikes are their own lesson in pain -- the FLX Babymaker Pro a friend is letting me try out for the weekend is too small, and I wind up with back and shoulder aches. None of the other used ebikes near me seem like they'll work better.

I do have the Raleigh SC30 pictured. It's heavy. It's slow. It's 30 years old. Alternatively I have a Specialized CrossRoads of about the same vintage, but I think the Raleigh is better for this project.

I'll be riding this around in Lawrence, Kansas. The longest round trip I plan on making is about 12 miles, but I may be called upon to do up to 30 miles in a day. I would be able to handle this on pure pedal power if I lived somewhere without hills, but Lawrence is not such a place. I don't imagine I'll ever be called upon to get up 13th street with its 10-12% grade but it'd be nice to know I could. But I never need to be going much faster than 20mph.

Can I make this happen? I'm just dizzied by all my various options.

Conversion

So I have a Carrera ebike, the spokes have broken 3 times now and I’m looking to sell it but haven’t had any interest.

How hard would it be to remove the pedal assist, rear hub and convert it to a standard bike?

INOW V40 Pro troubleshooting — E08, E07 errors and motor jerking

Hi everyone.

I have an INOW V40 Pro electric bike (1000W), and I'm trying to diagnose a controller/display issue.

  • With the original INOW display and controller, the display shows error E08.
  • With a DYEMORE S866 display, the display shows error E07.
  • With a DYEMORE S866 controller and display, the motor responds to the throttle, but it jerks and stutters instead of running smoothly.

Has anyone experienced similar issues or knows what could be causing these errors and the jerky motor behavior?

Could this be a controller compatibility issue, a wiring problem, or something related to the motor's Hall sensors?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm Brazilian, so if there are any Brazilians here who can help me, feel free to reply in Portuguese!

Looking for E-bike recommendations

I am very very new to this market but not new to bikes at all. I’ve had a dozen bikes at this point in my life so I know what I’m looking for in terms of ride and feel. My problem is the Electrical part of this and how to manage to.

I am a 32 6’2’ 260ish male that is looking to make the commute going roughly 20 miles to my job and back. My budget is roughly 1000-1500 and I’m willing to spend that much because I really need something that’ll last me years. This is going to completely replace my car and that’s where my main indecision comes from.

Please tell me your experiences with Ebiking that distance 5/7 days of the week and maybe some recommendations on not just bikes but any tips really on what I need to know or do to make sure my purchase is solid but also thst I have the adequate knowledge to take care of the bike for as long as possible.

I live in South LA so it’s also hot most of the year which I know will factor into this.

Any and all suggestions and advice will be helpful, thank you!

Weird whine from back wheel

Hi all,

Just bought a used Momentum Vida E+ from Upway. After putting it together I noticed a weird whine coming from the back wheel while riding. It also happens when the bike is off and the back wheel is spun. Is this normal?
