Look at this new Duolingo feature Different Colored Streaks Spotted on Android

Hi all ,

We’ve seen your posts about your streak flame changing color, and that lit a fire under us to get you some answers!

Here’s what you need to know:

We’re currently testing a new system that recognizes longer streaks as your streak grows. This is still in the testing phase, so some of you might see different streak lengths with different colors or treatments, and many of you might not see a change at all (for now) until we decide to expand this experiment to more people. It’s important to know that this is not a visual bug.
We're hoping this change helps motivate learners to build their streak!

General Discussion Why Has the Diamond Tournament Become So Uncompetitive?

The Diamond Tournament used to be something that was fiercely competitive. I never thought I would win it. Then suddenly, I not only won it with ease, but I'm routinely in it without hardly trying.

What changed?

Constructive Criticism Can we get a reduce animations setting?

I get chronic migraines, and when I'm in a bad stretch, motion on my phone makes me nauseous. Duolingo is honestly one of the worst for it. Stuff is always bouncing or sliding or celebrating, and on migraine days I end up skipping lessons just because I can't look at it.

I tried fixing it myself but iOS Reduce Motion doesn't do anything. I went into iPhone settings and turned on Reduce Motion and Prefer Cross-Fade Transitions just for Duolingo, and turned off auto-play for animated images and videos. Restarted the app. Nothing, everything still moves exactly the same.

So I'd really like a toggle in the app itself that turns the animations off or tones them down. Characters moving, streak screens, the chests etc.…all of it 😭

I'm guessing I'm not the only one. If you get motion sick, have vertigo, whatever, this would probably help you too!

A few months ago I posted about turning off Oscar’s commentary during chess matches when you have other audio on your device and Duolingo actually did that (thank you!!!!) so I’m hoping to see this too!

Bug? The curriculum changed

Im at level 50 in Spanish. At some point, they updated the curriculum. The system kept my level at 50, but somewhere in the update they changed a lot of the vocabulary that was learned. Enough that in every lesson there’s usually a new word that it expects me to already know. Sometimes two or three. I don’t know exactly when this happened, because I took a break from Spanish to study another language.

When I go to practice Spanish words, I only know about half of them. The rest I’ve never encountered on the app.

I can figure it out, but it’s really frustrating.

General Discussion Why can’t we skip to next section anymore?

I feel like I understand the words and skills in each section before it’s over. Now it seems we have to do every lesson before moving ahead. Is there a way to fix this?

Constructive Criticism Hot take: You should be able to buy super duolingo using gems

I currently see this platform as pay to win, which isnt the point of duolingo. They say "we make language learning free" and shove milion ads inside of us. Buying super duolingo with gems should fix that. i think that the conversion rate should be 1000 gems for 2 weeks.

HONORABLE MENTION: pay 2000 gems for no ads

General Discussion Is there a way to take away the game-ification of the app a bit?

It's so annoying finishing my lesson and getting bombarded with friend streaks, the weird gambling chests, monthly quests, friend quests, XP boosts, leagues, skins, blah, blah, blah. It's so annoying, and it didn't use to be this bad. I just want to learn. It takes longer to click through the 16 things at the end of my lesson than it does to do the actual lesson sometimes. How do I turn these things off? I can only find the settings for animations and friend streaks, which are probably the only two things that don't bother me that much. Is there any way to turn these things off, or is this app only a game with a small amount of learning involved?

General Discussion "Duolingo has detected your screenshot"

Sorry, what? Nope, giving up my 1,173 day streak and uninstalling the app after I saw that message. Does anyone else feel like that's something an app shouldn't be able to do without permission or even the ability to opt out?
