Help/Advice First time flying with dog

• Upvotes

I have a chihuahua puppy who I’m planning to fly with in a few weeks. I called reservations to book him and all was well. I’m curious from anyone who’s traveled with a pet before, what is required of you to show at check in? I know you pay a fee but the agent was telling me all these needed documents that don’t seem to apply to domestic travel in the US when I check on deltas site. Does anyone has experience they could share on the check in process? He’s 4 months old and is still going through his vaccinations, but I have his medical history to bring if they need it.

Enjoying this premium experience on my favorite CRJ 900. Don’t be fooled, the lack of speed tape (or whatever) on the second bin doesn’t mean that one isn’t broken too.

Landed in MSP airport with my three kids (6, 4, and 7 months). 4yo was having a meltdown while I’m carrying 3 bags and pushing a stroller. A Delta FA walking by gave my kid this flower balloon and it is the only thing that got us from the gate to baggage in one piece. THANK YOU I hope she sees this and realizes what a lifesaving gesture that was.

I love the fact that I just paid $900 for a premium to upper class upgrade on virgin direct to virgin that delta’s algorithm was asking $6500 for. Everything is fine. Nothing to see here.

Help/Advice Chasing Diamond?

• Upvotes

I’m making Diamond this year. My husband is currently around 1500 MQDs short of Diamond. We always buy biz or first class tickets, so for us the only real value in Diamond is the GUCs. We would definitely appreciate saving money with the GUCs, but I’m struggling to put a $ value on that. For context, we typically do 4-5 international vacations per year. Do you think it’s worth it for him to chase Diamond?

Help/Advice Platinum Medallion Comfort+ for Companions

Good afternoon, I recently switched airlines to Delta so I am new to their medallion program. I have Gold status now and Platinum status should be attainable for this period. For the "upgrades to Comfort+ shortly after booking" benefit, does that apply only to myself and one other companion or all ticketed companions? I am planning a trip to Hawaii next year with myself, my wife, and two kids so if its all ticketed companions that could be sizeable benefit. I am guessing its just one companion but wanted to check with you all. Thanks for your help!

Discussion Three weeks before departure, why so empty? HNL LAX CDG JFK HNL

I'm taking a whirlwind trip in about 3 weeks and noticed "still" that the flights are awfully uncrowded. I was checking a few weeks ago before the manifestations in Paris, so that might not be it.

What are the chances of having a row or at least a seat next to me empy? lol. I generally like a window seat but only choose aisle seats now due to being to get up at any time. I may just change at the last minute. When do they actually close the seal selection? I'm assuming they would not cancel the flight and move us to the later one as that 777-300 has to get home. Thanks!!

I was thinking of taking a 2 day trip somewhere to get the extra MQDs I’m missing. After my last (not booked yet) work trip in December I’ll be short about 900.

Correction: PLATINUM. Sorry, long day.

Discussion Delta One Mistreatment

Not looking for sympathy or sorrow, just genuinely curious here - I am lucky enough to be very young and fly Delta One for work fairly often. After about a dozen times of being disrespected and mistreated by flight attendants, I am curious if me being in D1 at a younger age upsets some attendants.

Examples: telling me the meal choice I selected has ran out (even if I’m in 1A). Telling me there are no hot towels left (even if I’m in 1A). Serving me cold coffee. Telling me there’s no more bottled water (after I watch them give another some). Many more examples plus an overall unpleasant attitude towards me.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? I am a quiet person that doesn’t really ask for anything out of the ordinary, and like to think I’m very respectful towards them. The repeated nature of this just has me wondering what the fuck is going on hahah. Thanks for your time.

SkyTeam Deb in baggage claim TYS

An Extraordinary Thank You to Deb in Baggage Claim at Knoxville Airport — Delta Airlines
Some people go to work and do their jobs. And then there are people like Deb, who remind you that compassion, kindness, and truly caring about another human being can make all the difference in the world. Deb, you are one of those rare people, and I will never forget what you did for me.
I had just gotten off a plane at Knoxville, Tennessee, when I realized I had accidentally left my medical device on the aircraft. This was not just a forgotten piece of luggage or an inconvenient mistake. This was a medical device that I depend on, and getting it back was incredibly important to my health and well-being. I was scared, overwhelmed, and desperately trying to find someone who could help me before the plane departed and my device was out of reach.
Unfortunately, my first attempt to get help at the ticket counter was met with a level of indifference that left my husband and I feeling dismissed and helpless. The employee I approached seemed far more interested in his conversation with another customer (she was absolutely stunning) than in helping someone who was genuinely frightened and facing a potentially serious medical situation. Thankfully, that customer herself showed me kindness and compassion, even telling me she would pray for me and expressing how sorry she was for what I was going through. Her kindness meant something to me in that moment, too. And looking back in my panic I hope I didn’t interrupt something super important 😞.
Then came the turning point. The manager told me to run downstairs and find Deb in baggage claim, assuring me that she could work magic.
And my goodness, did she ever!
Deb didn’t brush me off. She didn’t make me feel like I was a nuisance or that my emergency wasn’t important. She took action. She cared. She went above and beyond to help me, working to help me quickly get my device off the plane before departing so my medical device could be recovered.
I truly believe that Deb may have saved my life, or at the very least, prevented a situation that could have put my health and safety in serious jeopardy. I cannot adequately put into words what it feels like to be frightened and desperate for help and then encounter someone who steps up and treats your situation as if it genuinely matters. I have MS (also the reason I have this device implanted, the remote is what I left on the plane for context) and just flown to Alaska and back in the span of 72 hours for medical appointments. I was exhausted, in pain. I was emotionally and physically fried.
Deb, you were my answered prayer that day.
I hope Delta Airlines understands what an incredible employee they have in you. You are the kind of person who restores someone’s faith in humanity. You represent the very best of customer service, not because you simply did your job, but because you showed compassion, urgency, dedication, and genuine humanity when someone desperately needed it.
I also want to thank the manager who directed me to Deb. That recommendation made all the difference, and I will always be grateful that you pointed me toward the person who could help. Also thank you to that passenger who showed compassion in my moment of desperation.
I sincerely hope this review reaches Delta’s leadership and that Deb receives the recognition she deserves. People like her should be celebrated, appreciated, and valued. In a world where people can sometimes feel like just another number, Deb made me feel like a human being whose life and well-being mattered. She even went as far as helping me find a new route home as there was just a tragic accident on the highway.
She didn’t just provide customer service that day. She made a life-changing difference to someone who needed help more than she could possibly have known.
Deb, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I will never forget you, your kindness, or what you did for me. You are living proof that one person’s willingness to care can change everything. ❤️

Discussion Have you been able to select a seat at check-in on basic economy long-haul?

I'm considering booking a basic economy roundtrip fair from the midwest to LON via ATL. All Delta operated flights.

Typically is one able to select a seat for free at check-in for the long-haul?

If so, can one do so 24 hours prior to the first leg departure? Or does it need to be 24 hours from the ATL to LON departure?

Same question for the return leg on a DL operated flight LON to ATL

I've looked at Delta's terms and conditions, and gone through a number of related posts on reddit and couldn't find the info I was looking for, so thank you in advance!

And yes, I know basic economy is cheap for a reason, but the trip works out to be 47k miles in basic, versus over 90k in main so I am just curious quite how limited my seat options are going to be! I don't need a bag, but I would prefer a window or aisle!

Thank you in advance.

Discussion The little things Delta does right are what keep me coming back

I swear half of flying Delta is knowing which rules are actually important, which are just inconvenient, and which seem to change depending on the day.

The window shade debates, the increasingly complicated app, the shrinking service on short flights, the loyalty program changes. Everyone has a different line where they stop shrugging and start pushing back.

What’s interesting is that people can be loyal to an airline and still be pretty vocal when they think it’s getting something wrong. Those aren’t mutually exclusive.

At what point does a small annoyance become a reason to reconsider flying Delta? Is it one major experience, or a dozen little changes that slowly add up?

Discussion Question about paying for upgrades

I booked my ticket about 3 weeks ago for an Oct 30 flight (ATL-MAD, BCN-ATL). Coach was $1599, D1 around $8k. I went for Coach and paid to choose my seats. I noticed an upgrade to D1 for $1299 each way, so I took it. I'm curious about how typical this is. $4200 vs $8k is a big difference and makes me tempted to count on this method in the future.

My question is, is this typical? I don't have status and can usually use miles for 1st class domestic, so I haven't really been keyed into the upgrades before.

PS I got a refund for the $200 I had paid to choose my original seat assignments. Nice surprise.

Discussion No time for service but time to come around to ask for donations. Make it make sense, Delta

On a really short hop from ATL to MEM so of course no service. I get it. But what I don’t get is the announcement that crew members will be coming around to everyone to ask for donation for breast cancer month. Great cause but if you’ve got time for that, then you have time for the very limited service that could be provided. Just my two cents. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Editing to add for all those saying that I should donate. I have donated already this month (and others) as I am a breast cancer survivor.

Having to open an email and put in a code before talking to a representative is horrible. Holding a coffee in one hand while towing a carry on and wanting to talk to a human is difficult at best.

End of rant, carry on with your day.

Discussion Biggest mistake applying for an Amex card during Delta checkout. What a nightmare!

I’ve been waiting weeks for two perfect Premium Economy seats on an international flight. They finally became available, and during checkout (almost $3,000), I got an Amex offer for a $500 statement credit + 50,000 bonus miles.

Sounds good, right? I applied, but instead of instant approval, my application went pending. I finally got approved the next morning.

Credit limit? $1,000 after accept the card, such a joke. My other cards usually got approved for 10k or more.

I called Amex. They refused to increase my limit, even temporary, and couldn’t even provide a temporary card number so I could book my flights!

Not sure why offer a credit card during a $3000 purchase if I can’t even use it?!

Now I risk losing the seats I’ve been waiting weeks for if I don't book using a different card.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Amex?

Help/Advice automatic upgrade confusion

Hey everyone, looking for some clarity on how Delta’s upgrade system handles Medallion status combined with a Reserve card, because the app logic is confusing me.

I am gold and usually hit it every year on my own.

I recently got the Delta AmEx Reserve Card.

Before getting the Reserve card, every time I checked in for a flight, the app would pop up a manual prompt asking: "Do you want to be considered for a Comfort+ upgrade?" I would select Yes, check "Aisle Only" and "Window Only," and move on.

This morning, I checked in for my flight and never got the prompt. When I checked the Upgrade/Standby list, my name was only on the Delta First list and there were zero options anywhere to opt into Comfort+ or select seat preferences.

From what I gather, the app stops showing the manual check-in prompt because the Reserve Card automatically forces a First Class upgrade request the second you check in. Because the app sees an activerequest (First Class), it skips the check-in pop-up entirely.

However, because Comfort+ is unchecked in my global profile, the system completely ignores me for Comfort+ upgrades. If I don't make the First Class cut (which has 0 seats left today), I am stuck in my original Main Cabin seat, completely bypassing the Comfort+ list because the prompt never gave me a chance to opt-in with my seat restrictions.

My question is…
Is it true that the Reserve card auto-request suppresses the manual Comfort+ check-in prompt?
If the prompt is gone forever, how do I request a Comfort+ upgrade for individual flights only if an aisle/window is available, without turning on the dangerous global opt-in? Where does that setting hide in the app now before/after check-in?

I guess I’m confused because I’m fairly confident I never checked nor unchecked comfort upgrade preferences in my global profile settings - I see it as unchecked now but I definitely did not uncheck it manually
