Discussion No time for service but time to come around to ask for donations. Make it make sense, Delta

On a really short hop from ATL to MEM so of course no service. I get it. But what I don’t get is the announcement that crew members will be coming around to everyone to ask for donation for breast cancer month. Great cause but if you’ve got time for that, then you have time for the very limited service that could be provided. Just my two cents. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Editing to add for all those saying that I should donate. I have donated already this month (and others) as I am a breast cancer survivor.

Edit #2: I just want to clarify a few things since some of the questions keep addressing similar things… Some people are saying it takes too long to pour everyone a drink and then have them choose a snack. Well, first of all, most people on this route (and I fly it a LOT) would get bottled water, so not a lot of pouring as the only other choices in main cabin were coffee or tea. Snack was chips or cookies. So there was definitely time for all that. People in the next row already heard the question and were always ready with their answers, no hemming and hawing that I ever really saw. And they come by and pick up trash anyway. They still hand out headphones at the beginning of the flight. It was a route with this service that recently went away and it just kind of irritated me that they seem to have enough time to solicit passengers but not do a very minimal service. And for flights that now cost more than when that service was provided.

So how long does it take for people to donate if they choose to? How does that process work? Can you use a card, does it have to be cash? Can they print you a receipt so you can claim it on your taxes? Doesn’t seem like it’s a routine thing and there are bound to be growing pains. Look what happened with Southwest when the first stated assigning seats. It was a clusterfuck in many situations.

In the grand scheme of things this was a minor annoyance. Did it ruin my day? Not at all. I wasn’t expecting service so I got a beverage beforehand. On the other hand, I also wasn’t expecting Delta to ask me to donate money either. I guess it hit a nerve as a breast cancer survivor and it just came across as performative. I found it to be a bit scummy to say that we’re now charging you more for less but please give us more money to pass onto a charity so we get some good PR. Delta won’t reap a monetary benefit in the form of a tax deduction. But… they are definitely hoping to entice customers with this type of stunt so they will indirectly benefit from this.

News DL1355 DTW ->TPA “unruly passenger deplaned. Anyone see?

Currently in flight DTW to TPA. Pilot came on before departure with the usual speech, but then said they were dealing with a passenger issue. I figured it was just some confusion with the manifest or something. Said should be underway 10-15 minutes. About 5 minutes later GA (maybe) came on overhead and said they were unable to resolve issue with “unruly passenger” and were asking everyone to deplane. A minute or two later said that someone was arriving to deal with the situation and two LEOs got onboard and then escorted a (youngish) woman off the plane. Incident was several rows behind me with a mid-cabin lav blocking my view (window seat). Passengers had their phones in the air and with cameras reversed. Never could see/hear what the issue was. Wondering if anyone else knows?

Landed in MSP airport with my three kids (6, 4, and 7 months). 4yo was having a meltdown while I’m carrying 3 bags and pushing a stroller. A Delta FA walking by gave my kid this flower balloon and it is the only thing that got us from the gate to baggage in one piece. THANK YOU I hope she sees this and realizes what a lifesaving gesture that was.

new to flying, I want to bring this large pumpkin bucket! I don’t plan on bringing a suitcase, just a backpack.
Its 9 inches tall , 10-11 inches diameter and 33 inches circumference. Will this be allowed as a carry on? Thanks for helping me out!

Discussion Am I Eligible for SBT in Atlanta on a Korean Air–Delta Connection?

Hi! I’m flying from Manila, Philippines to Harrisburg, PA on one ticket with Korean Air and Delta, connecting in Seoul/Incheon and Atlanta. My Incheon-to-Atlanta flight is on Korean Air, and my Atlanta-to-Harrisburg flight is operated by Delta.
Am I eligible for the baggage screening program (SBT) in Atlanta, so that my checked luggage will be transferred to Harrisburg and I won’t need to collect and recheck it in Atlanta? Has anyone done this recently? I’m a little nervous because I only have a 2-hour layover in Atlanta.

Thank you!

Help/Advice First time traveler

• Upvotes

I will be a first time traveler (first time in an airport actually even 🥲) next month. I will be flying IND-ATL-MAD

I’m getting really confused on how this works. I booked my flights round trip through delta. I need this explained to me like I’m 5.

1.) I only have a 1.5 hour connection. At first I thought I shouldn’t check a bag because I wouldn’t have time to get it. If I check it at IND, do I not have to worry about it again? Does it just follow me, or do I have to retrieve it in ATL and recheck it?

2.) when I land in ATL, do I have to do tsa/security again, or is IND the only time I have to worry about it until I land in Spain? I’ve heard horror stories of ATL and it scares me 🤣

3.) with such a tight connection, if I happen to miss my
Flight out of ATL from delays/human error/whatever, will Delta just put me on the next flight? I’ve heard mixed things

So sorry, I’m sure these questions are asked a million times but I am having god awful anxiety over this because I’ve never even been in an airport LOL

I love the fact that I just paid $900 for a premium to upper class upgrade on virgin direct to virgin that delta’s algorithm was asking $6500 for. Everything is fine. Nothing to see here.

Edit: I was looking away while she changed the baby so I didn’t even notice it until she left. I told the flight attendant and he went and got who I’m assuming is the dad to come pick it up. I’m a thousand miles over the pacific in a plane. I’m not going to track a mother down and get into an altercation. I just let the fa deal with it.

Help/Advice What are you doing for headphones?

I have an older pair of Bose Noise Canceling earbuds (wired) that have served me well with Delta’s IFE. Unfortunately I caught the cord in the tray table on my last flight and broke one side. Bose no longer makes these headphones and only has USB C wired these days. What is the play for ear bud noise canceling headphones given Delta’s 3.5 mm audio jack?

SkyTeam Deb in baggage claim TYS

An Extraordinary Thank You to Deb in Baggage Claim at Knoxville Airport — Delta Airlines
Some people go to work and do their jobs. And then there are people like Deb, who remind you that compassion, kindness, and truly caring about another human being can make all the difference in the world. Deb, you are one of those rare people, and I will never forget what you did for me.
I had just gotten off a plane at Knoxville, Tennessee, when I realized I had accidentally left my medical device on the aircraft. This was not just a forgotten piece of luggage or an inconvenient mistake. This was a medical device that I depend on, and getting it back was incredibly important to my health and well-being. I was scared, overwhelmed, and desperately trying to find someone who could help me before the plane departed and my device was out of reach.
Unfortunately, my first attempt to get help at the ticket counter was met with a level of indifference that left my husband and I feeling dismissed and helpless. The employee I approached seemed far more interested in his conversation with another customer (she was absolutely stunning) than in helping someone who was genuinely frightened and facing a potentially serious medical situation. Thankfully, that customer herself showed me kindness and compassion, even telling me she would pray for me and expressing how sorry she was for what I was going through. Her kindness meant something to me in that moment, too. And looking back in my panic I hope I didn’t interrupt something super important 😞.
Then came the turning point. The manager told me to run downstairs and find Deb in baggage claim, assuring me that she could work magic.
And my goodness, did she ever!
Deb didn’t brush me off. She didn’t make me feel like I was a nuisance or that my emergency wasn’t important. She took action. She cared. She went above and beyond to help me, working to help me quickly get my device off the plane before departing so my medical device could be recovered.
I truly believe that Deb may have saved my life, or at the very least, prevented a situation that could have put my health and safety in serious jeopardy. I cannot adequately put into words what it feels like to be frightened and desperate for help and then encounter someone who steps up and treats your situation as if it genuinely matters. I have MS (also the reason I have this device implanted, the remote is what I left on the plane for context) and just flown to Alaska and back in the span of 72 hours for medical appointments. I was exhausted, in pain. I was emotionally and physically fried.
Deb, you were my answered prayer that day.
I hope Delta Airlines understands what an incredible employee they have in you. You are the kind of person who restores someone’s faith in humanity. You represent the very best of customer service, not because you simply did your job, but because you showed compassion, urgency, dedication, and genuine humanity when someone desperately needed it.
I also want to thank the manager who directed me to Deb. That recommendation made all the difference, and I will always be grateful that you pointed me toward the person who could help. Also thank you to that passenger who showed compassion in my moment of desperation.
I sincerely hope this review reaches Delta’s leadership and that Deb receives the recognition she deserves. People like her should be celebrated, appreciated, and valued. In a world where people can sometimes feel like just another number, Deb made me feel like a human being whose life and well-being mattered. She even went as far as helping me find a new route home as there was just a tragic accident on the highway.
She didn’t just provide customer service that day. She made a life-changing difference to someone who needed help more than she could possibly have known.
Deb, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I will never forget you, your kindness, or what you did for me. You are living proof that one person’s willingness to care can change everything. ❤️

Enjoying this premium experience on my favorite CRJ 900. Don’t be fooled, the lack of speed tape (or whatever) on the second bin doesn’t mean that one isn’t broken too.

Discussion Do you always choose your seats at time of booking?

• Upvotes

If you’re booking a flight (excluding basic economy) are there ever times you don’t pick your seats? Under what circumstances?

I have always picked my seats when making the purchase, especially now when traveling with kids/family. But curious what everyone else does.

Yes, always pick seats
No, never pick seats
Depends - explain in comments

Discussion The new phone 2FA sucks

Having to open an email and put in a code before talking to a representative is horrible. Holding a coffee in one hand while towing a carry on and wanting to talk to a human is difficult at best.

End of rant, carry on with your day.

Discussion Issues with Delta’s in-cabin pet carrier dimensions?

I’m flying with a tripod cat from PVG to ORD on Comfort Classic/Plus. Called to add my pet to the reservation and was told his carrier size for his medium Sherpa (17L x 11W x 10.5H) was too large for the aircraft. International leg is A350-900, domestic is A220-300. The rep told me to buy a carrier that’s 14L 11W 8.8H - which seems insanely tight for a medium sized cat. But on Deltas website, they recommended a soft carrier that’s up to 18x11x11, yet the dimensions for each aircraft are widely different. The domestic leg is even smaller at 12x16x6 so I have no idea how that’s gonna work. Any insight is much appreciated!

Help/Advice Platinum Medallion Comfort+ for Companions

Good afternoon, I recently switched airlines to Delta so I am new to their medallion program. I have Gold status now and Platinum status should be attainable for this period. For the "upgrades to Comfort+ shortly after booking" benefit, does that apply only to myself and one other companion or all ticketed companions? I am planning a trip to Hawaii next year with myself, my wife, and two kids so if its all ticketed companions that could be sizeable benefit. I am guessing its just one companion but wanted to check with you all. Thanks for your help!
