Asking a Question User count disappeared from my CWS listing after users spike

My extension LurkLoot had been growing steadily, at around 2.5k weekly users in mid-October. Then in about a week it jumped to over 20k:

The breakdown looks off: 44% of users are in Sweden, yet the top language is Russian (33%), and only 9% are in Russia. Ratings, reviews and support requests haven't changed at all, so I don't think these are real users.

It looks like the same thing described here, where the Helium browser apparently routes Chrome Web Store traffic through a proxy that inflates user counts: https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome_extensions/comments/1wz7rqo/why_is_my_extension_so_popular_in_sweden/

Now the user count has disappeared from my store listing:

I understand the CWS not wanting to show inflated numbers, but I didn't get any notice and I can't do anything about this from my side. Has anyone seen the count come back once the stats normalize? And has anyone contacted developer support about this and got a useful answer?

EDIT: I created a github issue at helium-services, where the source code for this extension proxy lives. First impression is that they do not care.

Asking a Question Review Rating

I had someone who gave me a one start on my extension because that person discovered a bug. I immediately resolved the bug and deployed a version with the bug resolved. I responded to the rating hoping that the person would review his rating. Am I expecting too much for the person to come back and re-review his rating?

Asking a Question Built a free Chrome extension, but I can't afford the $5 developer registration fee. Are there any alternatives?

Hey everyone!

I recently built my first Chrome extension, FluxFetch, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to release it to the public.

I ran into an unexpected roadblock: Chrome requires a one-time $5 developer registration fee to publish on the Web Store. Unfortunately, I can't afford it at the moment.

The extension is a free project, and I don't intend to monetize it. I just want to make it available for people who might find it useful.

For developers who've published Chrome extensions before:

  • Are there any legitimate alternatives to the Chrome Web Store?
  • Do any communities or programs help new developers with publishing costs?
  • Is distributing an extension through GitHub a practical way to get started?

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who's dealt with this before. I'm mainly looking for a legitimate way to share my work without having to wait until I can afford the registration fee.

Thanks!

Sharing Journey/Experience/Progress Updates 1900 → 4,000 users in 48 hours. No ads, no launch, one Reddit post.

On Wednesday, my free Chrome extension had about 2,000 users. By Friday night, it had 4,000.

I didn't run ads. I didn't do a launch. I wrote one Reddit post, and it wasn't even really about the extension.

The post was called "First acquisition offer @ ~1900 users 🤔". It's a volume booster, nothing viral about it, so I went back through the post to figure out what actually worked:

  1. The title was a story, not a launch.

"Someone wants to buy my thing" makes people curious. Everyone has an opinion on whether you should sell. Nobody clicks "check out my volume booster."

  1. It had a real dilemma.

I explained why I was hesitant: an extension like mine can run on every site, and a new owner could push ads or tracking to every user. That turned the comments into a debate about selling vs. building, and the debate kept the post alive.

  1. The numbers were real and specific.

~1,900 users, 32 reviews, 4.9★, 15–30 new users a day. A short list, nothing inflated. People trust numbers they can check on the store page.

  1. It ended with a question.

"Have you sold an extension? How did you check out the buyer?" People who'd been through it answered, and their answers were better than my post.

  1. The link came last.

After all the useful stuff, at the very end. By the time people reached it, it didn't feel like an ad.

(I turned the offer down, by the way. A lot of you told me not to sell this early, and you were right.)

What I'm watching now: whether these users stick around. Viral installs usually churn faster than people who searched for the tool. I'll know in a week whether the line holds or slides back.

If you've had a spike like this, did your users stick, or did most of them leave?

For anyone curious, the extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/fhlnjpnemdhhoejgdelndonecnbeolok

Boosts any tab up to 1000%; Smart Boost keeps it clean instead of distorted, remembers your level per site, and works on browser games. Free, no ads, no tracking.

Idea Validation / Need feedback ELI5: I got tired of websites blocking copy-paste and right-click, so I built an extension to fix it for FREE and automatically.

Magic Copy Paste is a lightweight Chrome extension that instantly smashes through invisible walls, IN ALL WEBSITES, re-enabling text selection, right-clicks, and pasting everywhere.

Where It Saves the Day:

  1. Online Banking: Paste 16-digit account numbers & IBANs instantly without typos.
  2. Government & Tax Portals: Bypass form locks to paste GSTINs, tax IDs, and e-filing data.
  3. Research & Studying: Re-enable text selection (user-select) on locked digital libraries and archives.
  4. Coding & Tech Docs: Copy terminal commands and code snippets without Ctrl+C failing.
  5. E-Commerce Checkouts: Smoothly paste multi-line shipping addresses and promo codes.
  6. Content Creation: Pull research quotes and competitor notes without clipboard blockouts.
  7. Customer Support: Paste saved templates and macro responses into restricted CRM windows.
  8. Job Applications: Bypass corporate ATS portals that block pasting resume summaries.
  9. Digital Archiving: Unlock right-click context menus on old historical records.
  10. Power Browsing: Kill annoying custom alerts blocking your native right-click and inspect tools.

Built Smart (Never Breaks Your Apps):

Unlike clunky extensions, it features a Smart Default Blocklist—staying completely dormant on sites where copy/paste is naturally required (like GitHub, Google Docs, Canva, Reddit, WhatsApp, and Discord).

When you hit a locked site, just click "Unblock This Page" for an instant override, or toggle "Stay Enabled" for heavy research archives.

👉 Keep it in your browser and save time!

GET IT HERE:

Or Search "Magic Copy Paste" on Chrome WebStore

Your feedbacks will be immensely helpful to improve the tool, thanks!

Self Promotion I built FlowGrab, a video downloader for Chrome and Firefox

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on FlowGrab for months, a browser extension that lets you detect and download videos directly from the page you’re browsing. If you are a content creator or you daily download videos to use in your edits you can download videos and audio with one click from your screen.

It’s currently free and available on Chrome and Firefox. The Opera version is also submitted and waiting for approval.

I’d love to get some feedback from people trying it out. If you find a bug or have a suggestion, let me know!

Keep in mind i still making changes in this web app.

The Chrome Version currently doesn't support YT video downloads cause they own the platform. It works fine in every other platform like X(twitter), instagram, Reddit and every other site that has embeded videos.

The Mozilla and Opera does not block any functionality, everything related to Youtube part is working perfectly and now I'm currently implementing the Tiktok functionality and it is 90% done. Keep in mind both of the current versions lacking the tiktok functionality. I will upload the updates soon

Please test it, and tell me your thoughts and bugs you may find!

Webapp Name: FlowGrab — Video Downloader

Idea Validation / Need feedback I built a free Chrome extension for repetitive browser tasks — looking for honest feedback

Hi everyone!
I built FlowPilot, a free Chrome extension designed to automate repetitive browser tasks without writing code.
The idea came from a simple problem: many browser workflows involve the same actions over and over — filling forms, entering spreadsheet data, copying information from pages, and repeating the process for multiple records.
FlowPilot lets you build these workflows using a visual editor.

What it can do:
📝 Automatically fill web forms.
📊 Import a CSV and repeat form filling for every row.
🔎 Extract information from web pages into a table and export it as CSV or JSON.
🔁 Build workflows with loops, If/Else conditions, and variables.
👀 Monitor execution step by step, with auto-retry and pause/resume controls.

Who might find it useful?
QA engineers, developers, researchers, operations teams, or anyone who regularly performs repetitive browser-based data entry.
I’m the developer, so I’m particularly interested in honest feedback:
Which repetitive browser task would you automate first?
What would prevent you from trusting an extension like this?
Which feature would make it genuinely useful in your daily workflow?
If you’d like to explore it, here’s the Chrome Web Store listing:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ihhfdgjjnknanbdkleeookhifilohala
I’m happy to answer questions about how it works and what I’m planning next. Thanks for taking a look!

Self Promotion Total Bookmarks — a dual-pane bookmark manager for Firefox and Chrome

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a browser extension I've been working on — Total Bookmarks.

The idea is inspired by Total Commander and other classic dual-pane file managers, but instead of files and folders, it helps you organize your browser bookmarks.

Every few years, I find myself trying to clean up my huge collection of bookmarks, and every time I realize that the built-in browser bookmark manager isn't particularly convenient for this.

A few years ago, I created a Firefox extension to solve this problem, but eventually browser API changes broke it. Recently, I decided to bring it back to life, rewrote it using TypeScript and Svelte, and added Chrome support.

The concept is pretty simple: two panels where you can open different bookmark folders side by side and easily organize their contents.

Some of the features:

  • Multiple selection of bookmarks and folders
  • Moving and deleting bookmarks in batches
  • Drag & drop within and between panels
  • Keyboard shortcuts for navigation and bookmark management
  • Selection is preserved when navigating between folders
  • Various sorting options

The extension is designed with keyboard navigation in mind, but everything can also be done with the mouse.

It's available for both browsers:

Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/total-bookmarks/

Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/total-bookmarks/lcnkhfjmdkbjinejjlkmejkimielebai

I'd be happy if someone finds it useful. And of course, I'd love to hear your feedback, suggestions, or ideas for improvement!

Thanks for checking it out!

Idea Validation / Need feedback Web Markups passed 120 installs—looking for honest feedback from people using it

Post image
2 Upvotes

Web Markups, the Chrome extension I’m building, has now passed 120 installs. Thank you to everyone who’s given it a try!

It lets you annotate webpages, take screenshots, record tabs, and share captures through links.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s used it—even if you tried it once and stopped. Feel free to DM me:

  • What were you trying to get done?
  • Did it help, or did something get in the way?
  • What would make you use it again?

You don’t need a detailed review. A quick, honest message—including what you didn’t like—would help me figure out what to improve next.

I’m the maker, and I’ll read and respond personally.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share monochromio, a small extension I built that turns websites greyscale.

The idea is simple: remove distracting colours while reading, studying, coding or browsing. Click the toolbar icon to switch between colour and greyscale across supported tabs.

It requires no account and has no tracking or data collection. Everything runs on your device.

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear where your feedback: Chrome Web Store

Sharing Resources/Tips I built DevSEO: A lightweight, privacy-first Technical SEO & DevTools inspector extension (No signups, Manifest V3)

Hey r/chrome_extensions!

I just published DevSEO, a lightweight, developer-focused Chrome extension designed to make technical SEO audits and on-page debugging effortless.

👉 Install on Chrome Web Store:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/pmblnmacnnodiiabimbgpbefabmfcmkk

💡 Why I built this:

Most SEO extensions today are heavy, cluttered with paywalls, or constantly prompt you to create an account. Plus, standard extension popups close as soon as you interact with the page.

I built DevSEO to be fast, 100% private, and deeply integrated into the developer workflow.

🌟 What it includes:

  • 🛠️ DevTools Panel (F12): Adds a dedicated DevSEO tab to Chrome DevTools that stays open permanently while inspecting pages.
  • 🎨 In-Page Visual Overlays: Toggle floating badges directly over headings (H1, H2, H3), highlight images missing alt attributes in red, and color-code internal vs. external links on the active page.
  • 🏷️ Headings Hierarchy Audit: Visualizes the full heading tree, flagging skipped levels (H2 -> H4) and multiple/missing H1 tags. Includes a "Scroll To" button to highlight elements on page.
  • 📱 Real-Time Previews: Google Search SERP snippet preview (Desktop & Mobile) + Live Open Graph cards for Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X.
  • 📊 Schema JSON-LD Inspector: Automatically parses and beautifies structured data with one-click copy.
  • 🔤 Keyword Density: Analyzes 1, 2, and 3-word n-gram frequency and alerts for keyword stuffing (>3.5%).
  • ⚡ Core Web Vitals: Instant TTFB, DOM Content Loaded, and page load waterfall breakdown.
  • 📋 Exporting: 1-click export to Markdown (.md), machine-readable JSON, or Print/PDF.

🔒 Privacy & Architecture:

  • Manifest V3 Compliant
  • 100% Free & No Sign-up
  • Zero Tracking / Zero Analytics: All DOM parsing happens locally on your machine.
  • Minimal Permissions: Only uses activeTab, scripting, storage, and contextMenus.
  • Total package size is under 60 KB.

Check it out and let me know what you think! If you have any feature suggestions or improvements, I'd love to hear your feedback in the comments. 🙌

Self Promotion new tab extension to save your tabs, notes and todos in one place (chrome, edge, helium)

shiori screenshot

I made shiori to solve my problem of tab hoarding, tabs are like my to do list, I always have 40+ tabs open because closing them felt like losing them, and I can't focus if I keep them open. browser bookmarking is just not for me.

Shiori replaces your new tab with a calm workspace for everything you have open:

  • Drag a tab from the live sidebar into kanban style board or save a whole window as a session and close all 40 tabs in one step.
  • save notes, checklists, images and a pomodoro timer.
  • create separate spaces and collections for work, personal and different projects.
  • tab switcher - press Alt+A to open raycast style palette to search and jump between open tabs
  • Arc browser style easel - spread your ideas, tabs, images on an infinite canvas.
  • Pie menus to quickly navigate around browser (give this one a try if you haven't used pie menus before)
  • detect duplicates and close them in one click.
  • prevent you from opening duplicates and highlight the already open tab.
  • local first, so new tabs open instantly
  • AI sidebar, ask AI to help you sort, organize and save tabs (BYOK).
  • Local MCP connection to use your existing AI agents like codex, claude, opencode etc.
  • import from other tab manger's export.

Lots of UI customizations -

  • lots of themes
  • background images
  • fonts
  • icons on spaces and group headers
  • hide every type of icon
  • see since when a tab is open, when you last visited it.
  • show sidebar on left or right
  • quiet mode for when you do not want to see all your tabs whenever you open a new tab.
  • fade sleeping tabs
  • show urls on tabs
  • screenshots on hover cards
  • floating/inset sidebar
  • control what buttons to show on tabs - copy, open, close, duplicate

It's free to use without an account up to 100 saves. there is a pro plan that removes all limits and a lifetime plan until the founder batch lasts.

👉 get the extension from - shiori website
👉 for any queries join - discord

I'd love honest feedback, especially if you've used Toby, Workona, One Tab or any other tab manager. What would make you switch, and what's missing?

Self Promotion I built a chrome extension to clip any element on a website as an editable component in a canvas.

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on Xtractly. It’s a browser extension that lets you grab live components straight off any website you’re browsing: hero sections, pricing tables, navbars, cards, whatever catches your eye.

The idea came from my own workflow. Every time I saw a UI I liked, I’d screenshot it, paste it into Claude or Cursor, and try to describe the spacing, fonts and colors. The result always came out generic. So now I just hover over the thing, click, and it’s saved with the real HTML, styles, fonts and colors.

From there you can:

  • Copy it as HTML, Tailwind, React, Vue or Svelte
  • Save it to your library and edit it in the browser
  • Pull the site’s colors, fonts and tokens into a theme
  • Connect your own AI agent (Claude Code, Cursor, anything that speaks MCP) through what I call the Agent Bridge, so the agent can read your saved components and build from them directly. No more describing a screenshot.

I’d love feedback

Self Promotion I built a small Chrome extension for legacy Dell iDRAC JNLP filenames

Some older Dell PowerEdge/iDRAC consoles download the Java launch file as viewer.jnlp(...) or jviewer.jnlp. That extra suffix can keep the file association from recognizing it as a .jnlp file.

I built iDRAC JNLP Fixer to rename only those matching downloads in Chrome. It runs locally and leaves unrelated downloads alone. It only fixes the filename: it does not launch Java or change TLS, certificates, or Java security settings, so it won’t solve a separate Java signature or compatibility error.

The trial includes three successful fixes; a lifetime license is €2.99. I’m the developer. It’s an independent tool and is not affiliated with Dell.

Self Promotion I got tired of scrolling down to read comments, so I built a Chrome extension that puts YouTube comments right next to the video

Hi everyone,

I love reading comments while watching YouTube — half the fun is in the reactions and the extra context people add. But every time I scrolled down to read them, I lost the video. Picture-in-picture felt too small, so I finally just built the thing I wanted.

It's a free Chrome extension that moves the comment section into the right sidebar, next to the video:

• Tab switch — flip between "Comments" and "Recommended" with one click, and each tab remembers its scroll position

• Drag to resize — make the comment column as wide as you like (340–850px), double-click to reset

• Plays nicely with YouTube — live chat, playlists/mixes and the Q&A panel still work as usual

• Tiny and fast — 30.8 KB total, no account, no setup. Install it, open a video, and the comments are just there

It's especially nice on a larger monitor, and for gaming streams, music videos, and long review videos where the comments are basically a second show.

This is my first published extension, so I'd genuinely love feedback — what feels off, what's missing, what would make you keep it installed?

Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/youtube%E5%8F%B3%E3%82%B5%E3%82%A4%E3%83%89%E3%83%90%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B3%E3%83%A1%E3%83%B3%E3%83%88-%E5%8B%95%E7%94%BB%E3%82%92%E8%A6%8B%E3%81%AA%E3%81%8C%E3%82%89/edddnbonpigkjcgfnibpabciikhbagkg

Thanks for reading!
