Clothing & Apparel Help with 1911

I bought this Springfield garrison in 9mm 5” because it was at a good deal and wanted to buy a 1911. I have enjoyed using it and recently wanted to try carrying it. I bought a cheap “rounded gear” holster which although pretty bad, the holster gets the job done. I do acknowledge a leather holster or a better quality one will be the best route. The comfort is fine. What I struggle with is the guns weight. It is so heavy and pulls my pants down a bit even if the belt (kore edc belt) is tightened as far as I can go.

My Glock 45 with an acro and tlr-1 weighs probably half what the garrison weighs and holds more rounds.

Are there other tricks? What do you 1911 carriers do so your pants don’t get weighed down by this fun to shoot brick? I did find an aluminum frame 1911 oriented for edc. Maybe people carry the commander or officer length for that reason.

Thank you guys for the help and suggestions.

Edit: I have decided to carry my Glock 45. If I can find someone with a shoulder holster or wider holster such as a galco or milt sparks I can try on before I buy one I may go that route.

Edit 2: I usually carry appendix. But a full size polymer gun. Not hammer fired gun, this was the first week attempting to carry a hammer gun.

Pocket Dump / EDC Which one is better for EDC

Post image

So these are my two favorite EDC. Can't decide which is better. Feel like its a math problem, 8 shots of .380 vs 5 shots of 357. I can shoot 357 accurately about 1 per second, or 380 two per second (more or less). So is 357>2(.380)? Curious what people think. What would you carry?

Getting Started First Time Flying Delta with a Firearm

Post image
177 Upvotes

This is my first time flying with a firearm (Delta), and I want to make sure I have everything packed correctly. I have a hard-sided case and two TSA-approved locks.
The ammo is in its original plastic tray, but I’m using a different ammunition box. I’ll put the tray inside the box and close it before traveling it’s out in the photo so you can see how the rounds are separated.
Also, does the orange cable lock need to be installed on the gun, or are the locks on the case enough?
Any tips from people who’ve flown Delta with a firearm would be appreciated!

Guns & Ammo Daily Carry Kimber

My favorite carry is a Kimber Micro 380 ACP.
I really like the feel and weight of this pistol.
It’s heavy enough yet not to heavy to have in your coat pocket and not effect your hang on your jacket in winter. Referring to NF 900 FP Down Jacket.

They came out with a Micro 9 mm couple months after I purchased this. I have 9 mm carry’s and like I said for me this is the perfect pistol to carry.

Holsters & Belts Need a new holster

Got a Glock 48 with a Holosun 507KX2 and a Streamlight TLR-7 X sub. I hate appendix carry (work in commercial hvac) so I bend over ALOT. Need something I can comfortably carry at 4 o’clock.
Willing to spend a little over $100 so idk if that’ll be a decent holster or not.

Guns & Ammo I got attacked by a guy with a knife last night

For starters i am making this post as a reminder to always carry even when you dont feel like it and think its just going to be a quick trip to the gas station or wherever

I got attacked by a guy with a knife last last night while doordashing at 3am. I dropped an order off then drove down this smaller backroad to see a guy flagging me down in the middle of the road to pull over with a big knife in hand yelling something obviously i just keep driving and as i drive past him he slashed the whole side of my car with his knife right were my neck would be (if my window was down i easily could of died) luckily i didnt have to use my firearm and got away and immediately called the police. The guy got arrested and also 302.

The guy looked crazy and almost evil and that look on his face he wanted to kill me. For what? I never even met the dude. Moral of the story always keep your firearm on you because there are crazy people out there who dont even want to rob you they just want to take your life for no reason.

The police officer called me about 15 minutes after and told me the guy claimed he seen and had people chasing after him and seen my car coming down the street and wanted help. But why would he attack my car with a knife if he needed help? I have no idea. People are crazy

Anything similar happen to anyone here?

Holsters & Belts Phlster Enigma Express with S&W Bodyguard 2.0 in a WARRIORLAND IWB Kydex Holster

So I wanted to purchase the micro phlster enigma holster setup but I also didn't want to buy another setup. I have several Phlster Enigma Express belts and decided to try to make my own setup. On phlster website it doesn't show to many holsters that work. If you Google it Google says that this holster wont fit and can be dangerous to use Amazon holsters. But as a mechanical engineer I decided how hard can it be to mix and match. As long as the holster has a wing that the bolts are 5/8 apart it should work. I also used a sticky rough pad trimmed to fit the wing bolted to the holster to stop the face plate from shifting slightly along with solid washers 1/4 in thick, I removed the wedge of the wing because it was unnecessary it made the face plate stick out to far. I am 6ft2 240 with a dad bod. I wore it a total of 16 hours it felt awesome I even forgot I had it on for hours. I love phlster but can't really justify the $160 for another setup if it doesn't work long term then I will get one. Just an FYI I believe the holster is for the regular BG 2.0 and the comp version there is a little room at the end of the holster. I do have a cc slide that I got from a friend that may go on my 2.0 but right now it's good the way it is. I don't want to pocket carry or bag carry I've been there done that in the past.

Other Equipment Shield plus/micro compact pocket carry, any experience?

Anybody here have experience pocket carrying a "larger" handgun like a shield plus or other similar micro compacts?

So with my career I am unable to carry at work, but I live out of town so whenever I get off work is when I do all shopping and stuffs in the city. I don't really have the opportunity to throw on something appendix so I've been pocket carrying mostly. I use a bodyguard 2.0 CC that I've been happy with, its just that the inability to have a WML and having a weaker cartridge is less than ideal. I work in some type of maintenance/technician role so our work uniforms have very large pockets, and I can comfortably fit my shield plus in and out even with a light and optic equipped.

Before I go and order a holster I was wondering if there are any hidden downsides to pocket carrying a larger than typical pocket gun? Thanks y'all

Guns & Ammo Glock 45 COA or CZ P10C Ported COA?

I’ve been carrying and shooting the base CZ P10C for 8 years. I’ve shot thousands and thousands of rounds through it with iron night sights without any problems whatsoever. Recently I decided I need to have a back up pistol and that I should use this opportunity to try shooting with a red dot. So naturally I’m considering these two models.

I’ve always been against using a red dot because of the potential failure points and I can shoot very competently with irons, but the COA seems to be the most robust, most affordable option I’ve seen. So if there was ever a time to give it a try, this is it.

Problem is I can’t decide between these two models. I like the idea of having access to the Glock ecosystem with all the parts availability. This is especially attractive for SHTF/WROL potential. I’ve had issues finding CZ stuff in stock. But if I got the CZ I could potentially save $200 or so on the initial purchase AND I could continue using my AIWB holster. But I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of using the ported model. I don’t like that it increases sound signature, not that it’s a big deal, it just bugs me.

Anyway, anybody have experience that could help inform my decision?

Scenario Flying with CCW?

I will be traveling for work soon. I’ve contemplated taking my CCW.

I read how to do it on the airlines site and it sounds really easy. But I think we know how that goes… especially with airline travel.

I don’t really want to cause a bunch of headache for myself.

The other thing is my work has a no gun policy. More than likely I’ll lock it in the hotel safe, which I am not excited about either(I don’t trust they can’t be accessed by staff). I would however CC after hours and around town obviously.

Overall I am not concerned about the area I am going. Just thinking, better to have and not need, than need and not have.

Thoughts?

I’m looking to conceal carry OWB with a jacket or hoodie, what would some good holster be? And should I go with a holster with a security rating just to be safer since it’s not as concealed? I’m running just a stock Glock 19 gen 3
