Mourning/Loss Tribute to my forever love, Nana.

Adopted you when you were shy over 1 year old. You were my first pet ever. My first cat. My first adventure. My first forever. From us being unsure of each other, afraid of new experiences to us relying on each other every single day for your whole 9 years.. Every morning you would greet us good morning. Scream at us when we woke up late. Be the first to say welcome home all the time and always always always reminding us that there's always time to give love and treats.

You loved the aircon with a passion. Your ekekekek chirps when we ask "where's the bird??" You sitting down like the sweetest angel the moment i said Treats! Your health took a decline rapidly all of a sudden and we had to put you to sleep. We didn't want you to suffer anymore. You tried so hard to fight back but the seizures just kept coming and coming.

I still can't believe it. I never thought the day would come. You even were lucid for awhile before we had to say goodbye. You even said "Mama dada i love you." before you slept peacefully. Even at the very end, you still managed to comfort our heavy hearts. And when it happened, you looked so happy sleeping. Smiling.. like the baby you are.

My first heartbreak. Rest easy my angel. I will never get used to not waking up to your voice and you making biscuits on me anymore. We love you with all our hearts. To Nana, my sweetest baby angel. The love of our lives. 💔

Stories I freaked my new rescue out with the vacuum and broke the little trust that we had 😭😭😭💔💔💔💔

I’ve had her for a week and we were making FAST progress, she was under the couch for two days but the third day she came out and started exploring and letting me pet her, she would even come to my bed and sit with me for a few minutes and let me kiss her head. Yesterday I really needed to vacuum and I thought she would be fine on her tree but as soon as she heard it she darted. She’s been hiding since yesterday and won’t come out so I’ve been trying to build back trust with treats and talking to her softly… I hope I didn’t mess everything up 😖😖😖 the third pic was her before :c

Stories A story about how my ghost brother sent me on a quest to rescue some dumped kittens

So some initial context; before my late brother passed I told him to send me lots of orange/ginger cats. Just heaps and heaps of cats, just a pile of cats and I’ll know it’s a sign from him that he is around. He loved his cats but had a particularly strong bond with his soul cat named Ginger. Since his passing a year ago I have had many inexplicable moments involving his memory and the sudden appearance of orange or ginger cats. One such occurrence was right after his passing I felt prompted to visit the local dollar store at the shops. Felt like I was forgetting something but couldn’t quite put my finger on it. As I stepped up to the window I saw an entire display of at least 2 dozen identical orange ceramic cats. The sudden need to remember something at the shop disappeared with that.

So this afternoon upon finishing work I suddenly had the urge to go to the park to do some meditation or spend some time grounding as I’ve been trying to get into the practice. I’d decided I was going to have a nap but the motivation to get dressed and leave the house came over me.

As I’m walking into the park I’m praying and just generally seeking guidance - which direction I should take to sit, or where I can look for guidance; When I suddenly honed in on a particular point in the park.

There is a whimsical little pond and stream set up that I haven’t spent enough time at (because, being so close to the road, the park is actually quite loud despite the serene environment that the council has attempted to foster.) so I meander over to this particular spot, spotting some ducks along the way; a group that looked particularly whimsical, as well as some natives and other birds flying overhead. Perfect set up to sit, listen to some peaceful meditation music and just enjoy the scenery. I was even taking pictures of the ducks and enjoying their particular poise and symmetry.

At some point after this much to my surprise I glance over at the other side of the stream and spot a Literal Pile of Kittens. Perfectly posed. Sitting just out on the rock face by the stream, completely out in the open as if they’d been placed there on a platter, ripe for the picking of some opportunistic predator.

I could tell almost immediately that these kittens had pretty clearly been dumped. They were clean, healthy and dumb. No colony kitten is sitting out in the open like that without starting at the first sign of movement.

So of course at first I sort of sit there in awe. Bc they’re fuckin adorable kittens??? Eventually some passer bys walk past so I bring their attention to them, because of course I am going to share the whimsy of a Literal Pile of Kittens. A pair of young boys eventually come by, much determined to catch the at least one kitten. So after overhearing one half of a very dramatic conversation I realised there was no way I was going to stop these boys from disturbing them, and potentially dispersing them if they were unsuccessful.

Now for some additional context I live in a small 2 bedroom flat with my husband and we already have two very well looked after indoor cats. They eat better than we do. We do not have a third (or, as it may be; fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh) cat in the budget. But I did not want to risk the kittens running off onto the main road or somewhere even more dangerous for them. So I urged the boys to leave the kittens until I could cross the highway to grab one of our cat carriers to put them in so we could find alternatives for their current environment.

So I did as I promised, and whilst the boys did manage to catch and remove one, taking it home before I could supervise, we did eventually catch the other 4. Now there were 2 Orange boys and 3 others; 2 torties and a tabby. The boys took one Orange and another lovely young lady took the other Orange boy. Whilst all the hubbub of this situation was occurring a crowd did amass with a number of children sharing that there were kittens in the park. One young girl entirely unprompted decided to tell me she has a cat at home! His name is Ginger.

Anyway so this is the story of how I now I have three kittens in my bathtub, and my ghost brother sent me to go fulfil several soul contracts.

Additional fun facts: my husband and I had been joking about dressing as Freya and Odr for Halloween as I have red hair and seemed easy enough... I had been musing about how I would acquire several cats for my costume. I suppose I mused a little too close to the sun. Also this happened on a FRIDAY so, thanks for that, Freya 🥲
Xx

Anyway if anyone wants a kitten and lives in southwest Sydney hit a girl up 🤣🥲

Stories My poor baby was suffering and I had no idea

PSA: Get your cats’ anal glands checked! Especially if they’re fat!

So yesterday I was surprised to find some gray liquid that appeared to be sprayed on my table. It smelled like an atomic bomb. Absolutely vile. I called the vet and they confirmed that it’s probably anal gland liquid. We made the appointment for today.

The vet expressed the glands and SO MUCH stuff came out. He said the “liquid” is supposed to look like pee. It was gray and looked like wet cement. Same consistency. The vet said had we come any later, they would’ve burst which would mean surgery. He also said Piksel (my cat) must be having a lot of problems when going #2. I said “impossible. I always check her litter. She has the biggest poops and doesn’t show any pain.” He then informed me that big poops just means that she is holding it until she can’t to avoid the pain.

I am so grateful and glad she’s ok now but I can’t believe it. I thought I was such a hands on, careful mom to her. She has been having big poops for years. I just thought it was because she’s fat. Who knows for how long she’s been suffering in silence. I never even thought about it until she finally sprayed it to show me where it hurts. Feeling soo much guilt.

Please remember that cats are experts at hiding their discomfort. Get them checked and trust your intuition!

Stories Every night I meet up with a stray park cat. We've never touched, but it's my favorite part of the day.

A few months back I bumped into a very skittish stray cat while sitting at a park late at night to clear my head. I love cats and always keep food on me just in case so I started opening a can of cat food and setting it down for him.
At first he had no idea what to make of me and seemed very hesitant to eat the food. Regardless, I kept coming back every night at the same time and leaving food.

Now it's our nightly routine and the best part of my day. I show up around the same time with canned food and fresh water. He comes out from the bushes, eats, grooms himself, and just hangs out nearby in the grass for a while before slipping away into the night. We’ve still never petted or touched, and I don't force it. But seeing him gain weight, look healthier, and slowly realize he's safe around me has been a rewarding experience. ❤️ He’s got a super cute pattern that looks like random spots but when he sits or loafs, the spots turn into a big heart. ♥️ I think deep down he’s actually a softie lol. I named him Robbie because his fur reminds me of Robbie’s heart jacket from Gravity Falls. (Iykyk) Just wanted to share a little pawsitivity! 🐾😊

Mourning/Loss Sebastian appreciation post

Sebastian crossed the rainbow bridge this morning suddenly. It was a very difficult decision to make. After several vet visits, we came to the conclusion that he destroyed his knee. Even with surgery and confinement the outlook was not great. He was a very active cat and I didn’t feel like he would have had any quality of life even with the surgery. Without it, there was no guarantee that he would have recovered. He was my best friend and saw me through a lot of different times in my life. At 10 years old, I feel like I gave him a lot of love over the last decade and he did the same. It’s really upsetting how quickly this all unfolded, but at least I am grateful knowing he is no longer suffering. Safe travels Mr. Chibbs

Cat Picture - OC Remus/Romulus, my little orange creatures

He and his brother, Romulus, are just about a year old.

Unfortunately, earlier in the year, I lost my 7 year old tabby cat named Bean to complications with medications and treatments. I cope with grief by finding somewhere to direct my emotions and so I looked for a kitten to care for. I found Remus at a local shelter and immediately felt a connection, but Romulus was climbing up the cage with just as much gusto, if not more so, to come meet me and spend time with me.

Being so in sync and so well behaved and energetic, I ended up bringing both home with me the next day. They both had an upper respiratory issue and were on antibiotics at the time. We finished their course and both seemed fine for the time, but we discovered that Remus had an umbilical hernia! We got him checked out and during the wait for his immune system to regulate, Romulus relapsed. We put him on another round of antibiotics and he relapsed again. So we did some bloodwork. It turned out that he had FIP. Which is a 100% fatal viral disease if left untreated.

We put him through the full course of treatment and I am very pleased to show the cat community a very healthy, happy boy and his brother who also made a courageous recovery with no surgical intervention as his brother Romulus went through his struggles. No relapses now out of the danger zone!

To those of you who read, thank you. I just wanted to share this story. And to those of you who get a FIP diagnosis, please know that there are treatments out there and they can work!

Cat Picture - OC She may be feral still, but she loves her adopted dad Apollo

I’ve had her for a few years now, she’s still about half feral but she hangs out under my bed only about 50% of the time now instead of the almost 100% for the first year I had her. Her & Apollo clicked from day one & he’s always taken care of her & groomed her & so even before I could actually handle her (I can now thankfully, though she still hates it) I always knew she wasn’t alone & cold anymore cuz she had Apollo. She also had my 3 other cats but it took her about a year to warm up to them but now they are all friends & will play together. The only one she will really cuddle with is Apollo though.

Advice Anticipatory grief long before it’s time?

Post image

My baby girl is 12, she’s perfectly healthy and very playful even though she loves to sleep. She’s not showing any signs of slowing down as far as I can tell, but the dread hits me anyway. I’ve had her since I was 4 years old, and I’m 16, she’s my other half. I can’t imagine life without her because I can’t even remember a life without her, she’s always been with me, she’s a piece of my soul and I can’t be without her. I’m crying like a baby writing this, I know it sounds silly because it’s not like she’s on deaths doorstep, I’m just so scared for when she is. I’ve heard all the stuff about enjoying the time while she’s here and to spend every second with her but how can I do that when all I can think about is the future?

Advice Cat owners beware - nightmare litter

Thumbnail

3.9k Upvotes

Decided to try World’s Best natural cat litter for the first time. Safe to say never will again and recommend avoiding it, I will never roll the dice again.

Bought a brand new bag, first off the shelf from the store. Cut it open and dumped it. Smelled like an old corn crib but figured that was the natural fiber and ignored it. Saw black specs and such but so use to litter with crystals and the like I didn’t pay it any mind.

Went about my night for about three hours and decided to check if the cats has used the new litter or not. Enter my laundry room to see a swarm of what I can only assume are corn weevils or something similar swarming out of the boxes. Luckily was able to kill them and I think clean it all up and toss it as of now.

Back to Dr. Elsey’s I go

Edit: lots of people saying these bags are usually vacuum sealed. This one and all the others like it on the shelf looked like bags of chips. One of them looked like it was vacuum sealed and I thought it was just a weird one because it was the smaller sized bag. Whoops

Edit 2: I have notified the brand and the store and have the requisite information to identify the lot and batch

Edit 3: full refund of my entire purchase not just the litter was given by the store, Worlds Best knows and is looking into it as well. Judging from the comments it’s a beloved brand and I got a bad batch. I went back to the store and with the worker used a flashlight through the bags and identified a few others similarly compromised and they pulled the whole shelf and are also contacting worlds best.
