Advice Please help, he is triggering my stress which is triggering my OCD, problems in my relationship, trashing our new apartment and I’m not sleeping, i am at my wits end.

I love my boy. He’s been with me for 3 years. When I first got him, he was peeing all over the place, come to find out he had a UTI. The last place I got him was going to throw him out on the streets because of that and I took him in and to the vet.

He healed and the peeing went away, but has always pooped right outside the litter box, that hasn’t gone away. he started getting aggressive with our older cats, but not the younger cat closer to his age. He loves to get under the other cats skin.

He’s always been a pain in the ass, eating stuff he isn’t supposed to and breaking into anything he can, we put baby locks up everywhere. But I was just glad the peeing was gone.

A couple years after his first pee incident, on top of all of his other issues, Ive noticed he started doing it again, where he was peeing all over the place. I took him to the vet and the vet claimed it was simply behavioral and territorial aggression. I told them that he had had a UTI in the past and that he has been acting odd, different than the last 2-3 years and maybe testing would be good and they basically said no it’s not necessary and sent me on my way.

they literally did not touch him because he was being a nervous cat despite giving him 100 mg of gabapentin like they instructed me to. They didn’t run tests, they didn’t do anything.

So $100 vet visit later, the problem persists, despite increased litter boxes, pheromones, cat trees, food, etc.

TLDR; Anyways, we just moved into a new apartment in hopes it would help with his stress. The initial move, of course I know won’t help, but since we moved in, over a month after moving, I noticed his stress is a little better and he is picking on the older cats a little less. But he is still peeing all over the house, literally NEW apartment. Peeing on the carpet, on the floor and it’s seeping into the base boards. the pee seems to be increasing, he squats, it’s puddled. And as of last night (two months or more after taking him to the vet) I noticed possible blood in his urine and am promptly taking him back to the vet.

Here’s the problem, I’m not sleeping. They wake me up at 3 AM to be fed and I am up from 3 AM pretty much for the rest of the day to catch him when he’s getting ready to pee. While waiting in doom scrolling trying to figure shit out to no avail.

I have a broken toes right now (as of two days ago), school full time, working (currently have the flu also) and my boyfriend works 12’s and will help but isn’t enthused obviously especially since he’s been peeing all over everything. He loves the cat just as much as I do but he’s getting annoyed atp. I’ve been dealing with this for months at this point, and my OCD is being triggered immensely. It’s causing friction between me and my partner. And money is nearly non-existent. I have let insurance I waste $150 on a month (I have multiple cats and plans) and it doesn’t seem to cover much.**

**Anyone please if you could offer anything that would be great. Advice, insight, etc. anything.**

**Thank you 💔**🫶🏻 we love him dearly and want to do what we can.

Advice Do you think your pet would choose euthanasia?

DISCLAIMER, this post is not meant cast shade or say that euthanasia is wrong, I was just curious about the idea and drive to live, so please share your thoughts on this.

wanting to live is one of the core desires as an animal(be it human or cat or lizard). Most people when they get extremely ill, they don't cut their life short, they usually spend their last days doing something, being with their family if they can.

So, if your cat fall ill and it is impossible for some reason to help it, is euthanasia the right choice? Do you think your cat would rather spend a few extra days with its loved one, while being sick, till it's last breath or live a little less, but not need to suffer?

PS. sorry if this post is not very cohesive, I'm a little bit unsure how to phrase all of this and structure it...

Advice I am thinking of getting my cat up for adoption..

As much as I hate saying this but I don't know what to do anymore. My cat is being so aggressive towards me and my family in the last months, the first time I got him he was a kitten and he wasn't harmful at all and he didn't use to bite us or use his claws on us. But that started getting weird when he grew up, He's about more than a year old now, and he is doing really harmful things. He used to bite my feet whenever I walk past him, I considered this as solvable by wearing my slippers but he noticed that and he is targeting my leg now 😭 He jump on my leg and bite it whenever iam walking past him, and it is not a "playing" bite, it is like he is literally trying to eat my leg or something. That is not my only problem either, he keeps on ruining things in the house, at first he started getting in the kitchen and drop things there, then he broke a vase in the living room.

I love him but I really don't know if I can handle it anymore, and I also don't know if cats really get sad over things like getting them up for adoption or not, as it doesn't look like he likes us anyways 😭

Moreover, I tried everything such as yelling at him, using the "hissing sound" or even ignore him, nothing of this worked. He is being really aggressive for no reason.

I want to know if anyone been through such thing, and if actually putting him for adoption would be the right choice or not, as I can't really decide ..

Edit : GUYS I DO PLAY WITH HIM A LOT AND I GOT HIM TO A VET MANY TIMES

I started the yelling and hissing when he got so aggressive, obviously not before that. And it was based on many people on the internet saying it is the way to get them to stop the aggressive ways.

2nd edit : The problem seems to be caused by not nurturing him, I thought that might be harmful for them but I found out it is actually recommended, I will consider it and see how things goes :)

Advice Is this enough food for him?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I feed my cat both dry and wet food. For breakfast and dinner he gets wet food. I feed him 1 quarter of a can, meaning he gets half a can a day. He weighs over 10 pounds around 13-15 ish, (big but not fat)

I want to know if 1/4th is enough for a medium sized cat like Doug. (Note he always has dry food if he needs it) I also add in extra water to his food so he stays hydrated :)

Okay, so i (16f) am still learning about my rescue cat ,hses about 5 or 6 months old right now?? Currently she is behind me on my chair.

Ive been harness training her and she is comfortable in the harness and isnt trying to get it off, it is a bit hotter out than I thought but I have water and we are in a shaded friends snack-shack with shade and airflow from fans.

She is breathing a bit fast, but is kinda walking around then hiding, right now she i sitting against me curled up and looking around while breathing fast, but like she is just observing? She seems like she wants to be near me...

Is she okay, do you guys have any tips?? I have a treat with me and am about to give it to her for being a good girl, im also keeping peoole from crowding her

I feel really really horrible, I thought she was ready and would be alright, am I scaring her or is this normal for a cats first time out? She has so much trust in me and I worry I've broken it, any advice us greatly appreciated, and please please understand I am new to being a cat mom and only want the best for my baby. I never intend to hurt or cause her harm, and in learning all of this and how to raise her with love and care. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you

Edit: she is in her carrier, she's a bit hot, but i think she has calmed down a bit, thank you everyone for the help, and I'll give her a lot of love and treats when we get home, as well as a comfy place to unwind on my bed as always

Advice What to do if I think somebody might have taken in my cat?

Please be kind and gentle with me. This account will be thrown away after I post this as I'm aware this is a difficult subject and I am *not* trying to shame or make any assumptions, I just can't get it out of my head. I'm also aware that most on this sub advocate for keeping cats indoors and this wasn't the case for my cat, so please try not to berate me as I'm aware (just for context, I'm from the UK where most cats are still indoor/outdoor).

Just over 2 weeks ago, one of my 2 cats went missing. He was always very close to home and he never went out for long. As soon as he went missing, we started searching for him and absolutely no sign. I've posted on social media several times, I've called vets to see if he's been handed in, nothing.

One morning a few days ago, around 6am, I was doing my usual routine of checking around and calling for him with food in hand, just in case. I started freaking out because I could SEE HIM in my neighbour's window! All sorted, I was so so excited, I knocked on their door which I felt bad about as it was so early. But they told me, oh no it can't be my cat, he couldn't have got in, we have 2 cats, and they like to sit in that window.

So of course I apologised profusely and left. But I can't stop thinking about it. I have NEVER seen any sign that they have cats, and I have lived in this area for 10 years. I completely understand if they have indoor cats, but I have never seen a cat in their windows. And I apart from that sighting of a cat that happened to look just like my cat, I have not seen a cat there before or since. My kitchen and living room windows look out over their house, and I spend a lot of time looking out my kitchen window while cooking, and again, I've never seen a sign of a cat there.

I feel like that's important to say, because in the last few days (and many other days actually, as they live at the back of our cul de sac and my cats are often in the trees just behind their house) I have been specifically looking, and have never ever spotted a cat there. I just can't get it out of my head that they might have my cat, that I'm going all over my city desperately searching for, and he could be sitting in the house behind me!

It doesn't make any sense though. Why would they take him? Why would they lie? But could it really be a coincidence that I see a cat that looks just like my cat, just one time? And what can I legitimately do if I thought he was in there? I can't force entry and get him scanned for proof of ownership, I can't demand they show him to me close up so I can see for myself it's not him. I'm torn between looking like an absolute psycho to my neighbours, and being kind of convinced that they have my cat :(

Advice Do indoor cats need to go to the balcony?

Hey all you lovely cat people, this is not really a call for advice, but more for hearing your take on the subject.

Recently I decided to contact a cat shelter to adopt a second cat. But they said I am not eligible because our house does not have a cat-safe balcony and they need to guarantee that all the cats that they hand out can go to the balcony to enjoy sunshine and see the outside. Well, I said my cat seems pretty satisfied with just staying by the window to do both, but I understand their position.

Now I’m curious to know what’s your opinion on this matter. Do indoor cats have to go to the balcony? If I enclose the balcony, isn’t it just an extended area of the indoor space? Obviously I know it is better to allow the cat in the balcony, but is it a million years better than by the window? I live in Europe, to have a balcony enclosed, I would have to pay a fortune and get the permission from the condominium meeting first which they might not give.

I did not argue with the shelter lady, because she’s just following their rules, but to me it seems a pity. I was interested in a 15 year old cat and a blink cat in their shelter since they seem more in urgency of adoption. I don’t know how much better a balcony can be for a blind cat than a large window 🤔

What do you all think? Is this requirement perfectly reasonable for you? Thanks you all

Medical Questions Can I get rabies from a stray cat touching a wound?

• Upvotes

I have a stray cat that lives on my roof and I was just out petting him. I have an ingrown toenail that ive been picking at, and he stepped on it very briefly. He is eating wet food, and is very affectionate and vocal. He has never bitten or scratched me, I'm just a severe hypochondriac and rabies is one of my biggest fears

Medical Questions Can I get sick from inhaling ground claw dust?

Basically what the title says. I bought an electric claw filer recently and just used it (much to my tiny terror's chagrin). I noticed some of the claw dust was getting up in the air and I am wondering if it's possible to get sick from ground up claw dust since I know you can get cat scratch disease from getting scratched.

Advice Cat scratching and pulling at door

What can I put under my door to stop my cat from banging at the door every morning?

So me and my girlfriend recently moved into a new apartment and in this apartment we discovered that a few doors in the apartment are hollow, the main one being our bedroom door.

We sleep with the door open at night because both our cats are good sleepers and don’t wake us at all, but our main issue is whenever I wake up.

I wake up at 7am and the second the alarm goes off, our boy cat will start meowing non stop until we feed him, unfortunately for him we keep to a strict diet schedule and he doesn’t get fed until 9am.

My girlfriend is always still sleeping by the time I wake up so in order to let her keep resting before work I will lock the cats out so he won’t go right up to her voice and meow until he gets fed, he can get extremely loud and he will do stuff that he knows he isn’t supposed to in order to get attention so we hopefully feed him sooner.

But our main problem is while he’s locked out of the room he will sit at the door and stick his paw under and IN the door (since it’s hollow) and pull his paw out basically thumping the door and creating a loud bang.

He is EXTREMELY persistent and will sit there til 9am when I feed him. What I am looking for by posting this is: does anyone have any idea what I can put under my door to keep him from being able to do this do the door.

We tried blocking it, he’ll find a way around everytime, we tried a door draft blocker made of a styrofoamy kind of material and he just tears it apart and it’s probably just as annoying as the door.

We can’t buy a lot of the door blockers because they are attached with sticky adhesive that isn’t renter friendly (we tried something similar and it pulled the paint off the door).

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could buy and install to keep him away from the under part of the door???

TL:DR New apartment has a hollow bedroom door that my cat will paw under the door and create a loud noise while my girlfriend tries to sleep, what can I install at the door to keep him from making a ruckus?

Advice My cat just randomly attacked me and is acting normal now, but is meowing a lot.

This literally just happened and I'm worried she's possibly having some kind of pain and trying to communicate that to me, so please give me advice as I've never dealt with this before.

My cat was outside of my room, and she's not really good with people besides me. My step-mom and nephew are out there. I let her in, laid down flat on my bed and she just randomly attacked me. Like, full-blown attacked me as if I were another cat and she was getting territorial. Her ears were down, she was hissing and swatting at me.

Now, after a few minutes of trying to get her to smell me and remember who I am she's acting pretty much normal. She's purring and making biscuits. She's meowing a lot and wanting me to pet her.

Is something wrong here? Should I take her to the emergency vet? We got a new cat around the end of May but they've had no issues whatsoever. Any advice is welcomed, thank you.

Medical Questions Hi, my cat got misdiagnosed with diabetes and was described insulin, after which she fell into a hypoglycemia coma

Post image

Hi, my cat got misdiagnosed with diabetes and was described insulin, after which she fell into a hypoglycemia coma after a month of taking it, the vet makes it look like its our fault to not have double checked the blood faster, but that was after he ALREADY diagnosed her and gave her 4 stripes of insulin in a 40 syringe 2 times a day, he also didn’t explain that we had to give that AFTER food, our cat went into a coma yesterday, her temperature went down to 33 and her sugar was almost non existent. We paid a total of 1000€ for everything and we have a big trauma from it all, do you think the vet has to make this right? He also never checked her urine or anything else, her sugar was slightly higher but still in a very normal range, she has alot of annoying symptoms such as obsessive eating and drinking and peeing an pooping all over our house, but that could be many reasons and could be many ilnesses. We feel so angry, so defeated by it all. Luckily she made it, hopefully the weekend goed well. I feel like he has to fix this or pay us back a part of the expenses. We almost don’t have any money left for food and this situation cost us almost all our savings, but the biggest issue ofcourse is that this was deeply traumatic. We went to more vets and also the clinic and all of them told us this in not diabetes, and the blood results don’t say anything obvious proving the diabetes, they were also shocked, what do you guys think? After all of this craziness we still don’t know what her real illness is.
