The funny thing is that viewing this cat as "locked in" is us pushing our mannerisms on it. If the cat was ready for combat, its eyes would be dilated, not slits. That cat's just chilling in its lane. Very mindful, very demure.
My ex said she wanted a cat. Her pit was 7 years old at the time.
I told her she should maybe really think about this. I am a huge cat person and my fear was her losing out on her commitment on him, because she has never had a cat.
The next day she picked me up from my apartment with the tiniest little cat I have ever seen.
We kept her dog away from our newest little friend, because she definitely wanted to eat him.
She would have them eat on different sides of a closed door at the same time to get them used to each other.
I came over a few days later and the cat was sitting on top of the dog, licking her head lol. The dog was like 😳
Thing is. That's actually a cats "I like you" face. Eyes are half lidded. Ears forward. Sitting politely. Cat wanted to make introductions and put his best paw forward.
But, that attitude in dog language speaks dominance.
She was never scared! The weens were used to cats and the one on the right grew up with them as I got him as a puppy and had 3 cats at the time.. The one on the left would growl at her for getting too close sometimes but she was never scared of him.
The kitten had to be protected from our small sized dog because she played too rough with him. Now we have the opposite problem. The cat grew into a giant jaguar and now the dog (and everyone else) is scared of him. He cooperates most of the time, thankfully, but when he does not, it takes 3 people to restrain him. He once punched the vet in the face. He didn't even scratch her, he fully suckerpunched her with a fist.
I can see the gangster signs brewing in your baby.
Now show us the kitten at 3 AM, when it just got done taking a huge poop, barely covering it correctly, and then zooms out of the bathroom top speed. Every few hours kittens become small natural disasters, especially the smart ones.
My 6 pound Tuxedo cat bapped our 200 pound Great Dane mix in the face one time for getting too close and she spent the rest of her years terrified of her, it was adorable haha
Haha. Our kitten was the same. We were worried about the introduction as we have 4 dogs as well. 2 of them quite big! But we needn't have worried. She asserted dominance straight away!! Gave em all a slap and that was that 🤣
My parents have a friend who was dog only for the longest time and was talked into adopting a petite little lovebug of a calico farm kitten. Her dogs are known plushie destroyers so she was worried how the kitten would settle in. Well the golden has long long hair on her chest and on day one she was running away and hiding after the new queen of the house decided she was her official cat toy.
If a cat doesn't run away right away, most dogs just don't know what to do. Running up and barking is a non-violent dog's whole arsenal. If it didn't work, they're stumped.
This is even more true if you have a cat and get a puppy. If your cat swats a puppy once, that dog will never understand that it's bigger than the cat, no matter how big it gets.
