Discussion A guide to Castlevania supplementary materials and where to read them
Symphony of the Night:
Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)
This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.
Available on: Castlevania Wiki
An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prologue for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.
Available on: Mr. P's Castlevania Realm
A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).
Available on: Shido T's Youtube channel
Curse of Darkness:
A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.
Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)
Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.
Available on: Internet Archive
Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:
Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss
A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.
Available on: Inverted Dungeon
Castlevania The Adventure:
It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.
Available on: Internet Archive
Lament of Innocence:
Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)
A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. News Belmont’s Curse has sold over 23K physical copies in Japan during its first week
For comparisons, it’s slightly higher than the number of physical copies that Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia sold in Japan during its first week, which was 19K copies. The same case applies for Dawn of Sorrow (15K) and Portrait of Ruin (16K), but it is slightly lower than how much Lords of Shadow sold during its first week in Japan, which was 27K copies. This should go without saying, but this isn’t accounting for digital copies.

Discussion Hearing discourse, it's like people think the first Castlevania game was Symphony of the Night
It is put on some pedastal of greatness. I chalk it up to probably being the first Castlevania game that a lot of people *played*. They have some notion of this being what CV is when it has had various incarnations throughout it's lifespan.
How could we even get SotN if they didn't choose to deviate from what CV was before it?

Video I love how this is essentially Castlevania the ride
It makes it even more so in my mind that in the same park you also have Nintendo as well so at least in my autistic mind you have two theme parks attractions that are like my favorite video games.

Meme Made a meme cause a couple friends and myself feel that some of the conversations tend to boil down to the same pattern.
Like no joke.
Rose will say something about her destiny / fate as Belmont and having to defeat evil n shiz.
Fallen will say something about current events or some random line that sounds like it came from one of the Org 13 members that harrasses Sora in KH DDD / KH3
Joan will say something about the current state of France or about what's happening (or some encouragement).
Medusa is basically either glazing Dracula or happy that you / Belmont clan will shed blood.

Discussion Lament Of Innocence Manga
Hey guys! I absolutely adore Lament of Innocence, and have recently learned that there was a manga series in the 2000s, which has apparently been lost to time because of its hard accessibility (being available only in Japan under certain circumstances). Does anybody know if there's any archives or any place the manga can be found? Or is it truly lost media?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Castlevania Belmont's Curse is a good game Spoiler
But it is only a good game.
Firstly I want to say I enjoyed my time with the game overall and think it those who are interested in the game should try it out.
I just dont think it stands out and it almost feels like it goes out of its way to not reinvent the wheel, by all means it is an extremely safe entry to the Castlevania franchise and the genre as a whole that being said I think it is absolutely worth the playthrough.
Okay with that out of the way lets now get into the subsequent Reddit babbling!
Visuals
In-game looks great in my opinion I love the styling choices they made but the cutscenes are actually such poor quality "next slide please" levels of lazy.
One pain point is that some of the terrain can be hard to see as it gets lost in the background.
Not much more to say here lol.
Music
It’s not exactly living up to its precursors’ OST standards but by and large the tracks are fine. Bloody Tears is a fun remix and grew on me over time and for me it was the only standout track.
My complaint here is that the tracks very obviously and audibly loop some tracks feel like they have a full second of dead air before they loop again.
World
Design:
I love it they did a great job, the visual breadcrumbing of locations give a satisfying exploration feel. The scale of locations is awesome it really feels like you’re exploring and finding your way through the twists and turns of Paris.
Exploration:
I’m pretty split on this aspect of the game on one hand exploring the locations is really fun but backtracking is one of the worst slogs I’ve experienced in the genre.
Yes I know about the mirrors it helps but the pain points still persist, the scale of the game only exasperates the problem.
I believe one if the key aspects of metroidvanias is that movement abilities should help players backtrack more effectively not just opening the path to the next location, BC gets more and more of a slog to backtrack as the game goes on call me a yellow paint eater or baby mode Andy I dont care, to me this is one of the worst aspects of the game.
Gameplay
Whip (Movement) Mechanics:
It mostly a fun way to move about but I wish the game asked more of the player for traversal than just purple piton and golden piton, the most the game asks of you is some timer gates and which are pretty easy.
The whip targeting is fairly annoying and I constantly would hit/attach to targets I didn’t mean to, this could be a me issue.
Whip (Combat) Mechanics:
I love this implementation, each weapon type getting their own whip attack allows for more player expression in combat to combat scenarios and in a game with straightforward and frequent combat encounters is it a much welcomed addition.
Again the whip targeting is a sore spot for me but again again it could just be me.
Parry:
It’s fun but trivializes like 90% of the game, once you get parry it is the only method you’ll be using to avoid enemy attacks, many trinkets reinforce this.
Movement like backstepping, sliding under enemies, jumping/crouching attacks become suboptimal you simply have no reason to engage with enemies beyond parrying them. If you like that kind of combat then great you’ll love BC
Equipment
Armory:
All the weapons except the twin swords feel good to play with. Twin swords didn’t feel very good to play with because of the enemies attack uptime I might just be shit though I’m man enough to admit that.
I like that most legendary weapons are really strong it brings back some of the arcadey vibes from some of the older Castlevanias.
My one big complaint is that there is no quickswap or at least customizable presets having to open the menu and dive into two submenus to change equipment is a massive pace obliterater in what is an otherwise fast paced game.
Arcana:
Having the arcana instead of the staple sidearms is just another gameplay choice so I don’t consider it a positive or negative it’s just different.
Personally I don’t like the arcana over sidearms system but that being said I think the arcana systems are enjoyable, the skills are pretty fun and allow the player to customize how they approach combat on the fly.
The issue with quickswap I have for armory applies here as well but somehow feels even more egregious lol.
Trinkets:
The trinkets are serviceable and are mostly just stat modifiers, which is frankly pretty boring. To its credit it can be fun to test out new trinket + arcana + weapon builds from time to time.
Combat
Fodder Monsters:
Early game low level experience can be hard but once you get parry all mobs are a joke and exist as a formality to fill the world.
The lack of variety for mob is one of the weaker points of the game but overall not a huge detriment.
Bosses:
All bosses having a gimmick is cool in concept and there are some I really enjoy for example the Medusa for both movement and thematic engagement.
Where it falls flat is for any boss that isn’t Fallen, Medusa, Joan, Death, and Dracula lol. The other arcana fights are less boss fights with a gimmick and more a gimmick with an hp bar, this both makes them too easy and straightforward.
The problem with lack of combat movement options I mentioned earlier really highlights these constraints in boss fights and to me explains why we ended up with the gimmicks we got.
Story
The expected Castlevania fanfare, I won’t sit here and tell you I didn’t like it but we have seen this plot many many many times before. The bad, normal, and true endings are fun to experience and add some flavor to the plot but again we’ve done this for previous games in the franchise.
Verdict
Overall I’m glad the game was made and was given the love and attention from the Motion Twin and Evil Empire teams, the skeleton is decades old but the meat they wrapped it in this time makes the game worth the play-through.
So again Castlevania Belmonts Curse is a good game … the sad part is that being a good game in the genre of metroidvanias is simply not enough and I do believe that the Castlevania name being attached to the game is the most impact the game will achieve in the genre.
NOW THAT YOUVE READ ALL THAT DRIVEL
Go and play the game for yourself, go in with an open mind, and form your own opinions on the game or you could always leave uninformed ragebait comments, that works too.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) How are we feeling about the new cheesy iconic line?
Seriously, It just landed so jarringly funny and out of place during the conversation with Trevor after defeating Death . I love it.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Hardest boss I've faced in the series Spoiler
Most of the bosses in this game are pretty easy, but this was one of the hardest I have ever faced. It would actually be easier to face Cv1 Dracula, Cv3 Death, Dracula X Dracula, Soleiyu, Belmont's Revenge Dracula and Circle of the moon Dracula back to back on one life. That said, it gets a little boring at the end, I could easily no damage the first two phases before beating it. I dislike the addition of a parry mechanic because of fights like this, but I suppose the removal of contact damage necessitates it, which is another change that I'm iffy about.
I haven't gotten further than this, and I quite like the game. The boss battles so are fun, despite being pushovers otherwise. (No spoilers please). Carmilla is somehow easier than her Simon Quest variant.
The only other boss that is this challenging is the Third Dracula Form in DxC. That boss does have a lot of movement variety, and it keeps it from getting stale. The secret second healthbar in this fight was annoying and unnecessary, I would have enjoyed this fight a lot more if it was removed. The third phase is basically identical to the second phase bar a singular move.
I was stupidly underlevelled, but I didn't explore or grind since I wanted a challenge. For the rest of the game, I'm planning to steamroll everything else.
