Other My mom keeps telling me I need to put myself out there...
...so I'm trying a post on r/berkeley.
I'm an early-30s guy doing a PhD at Berkeley. I'm single, would like that not to be the case indefinitely, and figured there's no particularly good reason not to try something outside the usual dating apps.
A little about me:
- 5'8"
- I’m ethnically South Asian (shoutout to 23andMe before bankruptcy), but I wasn’t raised in South Asia and don’t have much cultural connection to the region. Mentioning since it may not be obvious from how I look, and cultural background could be important to you.
- I've been lifting for more than a decade and at the gym pretty consistently.
- I'm somewhat of a homebody, although I like going out when there's actually something interesting to do.
- I watch anime and K-dramas, read quite a bit, and have been trying to learn Korean after losing a battle with Japanese kanji 😞.
- I spend a lot of time thinking about random questions involving economics, technology, history, science, and how the world works.
- I tend to get very interested in things and enjoy conversations with people who do the same.
- I'm pretty motivated about the things I care about, but I'm not someone who thinks life should revolve entirely around work.
- I'm a fairly direct communicator and generally prefer talking things through rather than trying to guess what someone else is thinking.
- I've somehow kept the same houseplant alive since 2015, which may be my most impressive long-term commitment.
I've spent an unreasonable fraction of my adult life in school, including stops at Caltech, Yale, and Harvard before Berkeley. These days most of my time is split between classes, research, the gym, reading/watching things, and occasionally remembering that there is a world outside my apartment and campus.
If you're a woman in the Berkeley/Bay Area who dates men and any of this makes you curious, feel free to send me a DM here or on IG. I'm @ bradchattergoon.
And yes, I recognize that posting a dating ad to r/berkeley exposes me to a substantial amount of downside risk in the comments.
